Thanks for the tip Ann. The heat thing is a video they do in the store, it only shows your body heat. Where it's red or yellow/orange is supposed to be pain, when it's blue/green you are relaxed. When you go in the store they set it up. They also do it on QVC sometimes.
I'm thinking about buying it from QVC cause they seem to have pretty big discounts on them. But, we have to figure out which model for sure to buy first. I'm liking the idea of them being light weight, as our current mattress is extremely heavy!
Cindy, my DH doesn't mind the heat as much as I do either.
Heather, I know nothing about the 'heat thing' on a Select Comfort mattress. That must be something new. We've had ours quite a while. We bought it for our 5th Wheel RV and when we bought the motor home in 03 we put the new mattress in the 5th Wheel and kept the Select Comfort for the motor home. You know you can order direct from the company and it use to be you got a 90 day money back trial period. They are easy to assemble. When we travel we have to deflat the mattress as the pressure going up over 4,000 elevation pumps the mattress up. Not a problem as the pump is automatic. (electric) If you get one be sure and get the control with the numbers on it. That way if you set your side for 45 and if you like that number than each time you can just reset the same setting. If you don't have the number on the dial, it is a guessing game. Friends had one and didn't like it at all. They were just trying to save a few dollars when they bought it.

hi girls, itis another hot one today. it is in the 90s..........again!!!!! i can t wait for fall. i was listening to the news yesterday and it was said that this june and july so far has been the hottest on record for the va. and dc area. after such a hard winter i am so surprised that we are having such a hard summer.
well, today our 18 month old and our 14 year old are here. they come every weekend. the 14 yr old and i are just about finished with her quilt. once this is finished i am going to continue to work on the quilt i started for the other 14 yr old. someday i am going to make a quilt for me. if i didn t have to work i would have more time to quilt and sew.
this hot weather does not bother my hubby. he just finished mowing the lawn and said he is going to go and till the garden. he has water with him and a hat on. i would rather he wait until it cools off in the evening but he said he would rather sit on the deck when the sun is going down. i told him that was fine i would sit out there with him.
in the month of july here there are farm shows in our county and the surronding ones also. each town has their firemens parade and carnival. there always seems to be something going on around us. we go sometimes if one or more of the grands are in the parade but unless we have grands with us we don t go to the carnivals as a rule. we also have a gas and steam show with a tractor pull in september. we do go to that. if there is a tractor pull close by we will go.
i used to show in our farmshow but haven t in a few years now. i enter veggies from the garden, flowers from my garden, some sewing, and baking. the past few years i have been so busy having grands here or doing things with them i haven t had the time.
i hope everyone has a very blessed day. cindy
I spent about 3g on my mattress we have now 10 years ago!
Yeah it's a lot to spend, but with my bad back, I really get no sleep if I'm in pain. I've had two back surgeries and one that went terribly wrong-bad surgeon he's even lost his medical license! After a few days of a bad mattress I feel like I can't function. My dad thought we were crazy for spending that on a mattress. he always buys cheap ones, but I just can't take any old mattress and function. I would probably end up on the brink of suicide and that's not even joking if I had to live full time with a bad mattress. So literally at this point I would pay what ever it cost! lol
The cushion things on top only help me a little bit not much, cause my sister has one on her bed, and really it does nothing for me. The real mattress has to be good for it to be ok for me.
Good to know about select comfort! We are getting a travel trailer soon, and I've been trying to figure that out! for the girls we will get a cheap ikea mattress as Lela likes her ikea mattress, and I must say her's isn't bad. Plus she is a little kid with out back problems so it's fine for her, but really I tried it out and it wasn't bad either, but not something for me long term, but a night or two it was better then my sisters! lol haha
So, now I know for sure to get the select comfort, for the travel trailer! That didn't even occur to me to have one for the trailer, I was trying to figure out how to get a comfy one though that didn't way a ton for in one. But, good idea.
The only problem is.....when I went to the SC store, they said I would need the more expensive one. The woman said she never experienced any one like me before! they did that heat showing thing, and mine showed pain till I was on the most expensive one on 0! My husband showed relaxed fine on the cheapest one at like 30! lol haha Then they moved it over to me, and we had to keep switching beds till the most expensive one and at 0. Like I said the lady said she never seen any one NEED the most expensive one to get the blue/green color on the heat thing!
I believe she wasn't lying cause I sat outside the store for a few hours when I wasn't feeling good and waiting on my MIL to finish shopping, and watched her with other people, none of them did she switch to higher then the cheapest one. In fact I think she was trying to sell the cheapest ones just to sell them so she could make some sales, and they were probably easier to sell.
I was shocked though too that it took that much, I was expecting all of the mattresses from them to be the same, hard to believe I needed the most padding. :(
Good Afternoon All. I think it is going to get hot again but I have a fan blowing on me so I can't tell at the moment.
DH went somewhere with DS and DD (Crabby Abby) She is starting to melt but I'm just avoiding her. I think they went to Home Depot to help DS buy something. Like he needs to spend money. He's always complaining that he doesn't have any retirement being self employeed and no college fund for son. Some people just never learn.
Louise, I can relate to your honking horn story. One time we were parked in an RV park near #1DS house in Idaho. (the one that lives in N.C. now) We had hooked the car up to the motor home and ready to get an early start out of town on a Sunday morning. All of a sudden the car horn goes off. I had no idea how to stop it. Finally it stopped after we probably woke every one in the camp ground up. I must have hit the horn button on the 'clicker' and had no idea how to stop it. Could you make your own recipe of cream of soup and have it be gluten free?
Sarah, the single slice of breakfast ham brand I buy is Jones. The 1/2 a boneless ham I got is also Jones. I just made my own slices and froze. I think I figured it out once I do save a little money doing that.
Patty, get yourself a foam topper for your hard mattress. That is what the RV'ers do when the mattress that comes in their unit is too hard. You can choose the thickness you want. I'm a stick in the mud too. There are lots of things going on in the city but I don't like crowds any more and the summer is the worse. After Labor Day it won't be so bad but Sept. is always a hot hot month here.
Heather, remember what you buy now will have to be moved. We have had a couple of Beauty Rest mattresses and are due for another one. In the motor home we have a Select Comfort 'number mattress'. We like it too. It is light weight and easy for me to lift it up to get in the storage area under the bed. The Select Comfort just rests on the top of the 'box'. I had a flyer for Select Comfort the other day with a $1,000 off coupon. The king size sells for just about $3,000 now. That is a lot of money even with the coupon. I threw them both away. In the motor home we have a queen size.
DH home and said DS bought some patio furniture at Home Depot.

oh Ps patty it's sooooooo important to have a good mattress, I don't know how some people function with out one. When I visit my sister and sleep in her bed, I'm exhausted, till I get home on my good one again!
I went to the store and tried them all out. Mine is good enough, but I won't get this brand again. As the woman lied to me at the store. But, I was desperate as my old mattress I had had for over 20 years and was used when I got it!
I thought it was a Beauty Rest! And she said no that BR didn't make the kind of mattress I was talking about only they did! (I believe mine is a sealy) Well after I bought it, when I got home, I seen mine was a BR just like I thought!!!!! that was the best mattress I ever had. Every single person who ever came and visited and even sat on it would say it was such a nice mattress. But, the problem was, it eventually fell apart! lol I mean the thing was probably 30 to 40 years old! hahaha So the top fell off-rotted off! lol haha I probably should of kept it and had a new layer put on top!
But, now we want a new mattress, we are between getting a BR and one of those number select kind. I know I loved my BR, but they probably don't make them that well any more.
I will say we bought it interest free, with 12 months to pay it off. I will do that again, that turned out great for us. You just have to do the math and make payments large enough for it to really be paid off in time, cause if you pay the bill they send monthly it's so low it would take like 5 years to pay it off. I know some people have gotten mad cause they paid the monthly payment and then ended up having to pay interest cause it wasn't paid off in the year. But, really it only takes a few seconds of common sense, if you bought 3grand worth of furniture, and you want it paid off in a year you got to pay more then 20 dollars a month! I was never mad at them for that, that was my own duty to do the math and see that it was paid off. Not only that but on tighter months I liked that the payment required was low that way we could budget those months easier and pay more the other months, etc.
I'm still working on the recipe search engine, will probably be a 2 to 3 year project at least!
The girls love each other. I tell them every day they are supposed to be best friends forever. My sister and I (the only one I have that we are blood related, I have other legally adopted sisters, and love them too but she's my only blood sister) have a very special bond. It's almost crazy our bond. And what's odd is really we weren't even raised together. She always lived with my dad and I with my mom. And we are 12 years apart!
She was only like 12 when I got married! And then I moved here to NYC, so half a country away. And barely got to see each other. Now we are back in each others lives again more. And every one who knows one of us and then meets the other goes on and on about how much alike we are. They can't believe how much of our personalities are alike. Even down to our likes and dislikes of food, and our weird quirks in how we eat etc. lol
As Judge Millian says, they are your friends from cradle to grave.
I feel sorry for my mom, her sisters (she has two) are a lot older then her-18 and 15 years older then her. And they have a terrible relationship. The one who is 15 years older then her hates her. I think it was a little jealousy in she had her first baby the same time mom was born, so maybe she didn't get a lot of attention for having a baby, since her mother had mom at the same time? I don't know. I just know she's terribly mean to mom. But, she had problems mentally any way, grandma said even as a young child she was troubled-starting fields on fire and the like. Most recently she was in prison for trying to kill their other sister.
The one 18 years older, got married after college and moved away. And then started listening to the other ones lies about my mom, and thought those things were true till just recently-IE that my mom was on drugs, and what not. Just crazy.
I really feel sorry for my mom that she can't have the really neat relationship my sister and I have. I mean we have so much fun together, and truly love each other. She really is my best friend!
Vince is at work today he has over time. So he won't be home till midnight. But, he'll be home tomorrow. BUT, I think we'll be going to Ikea and getting a few more items. I need a ottoman I'm quite sure now. And I think I will go ahead and buy Lela & Belle a toy organizer I seen there. I really wanted this one dresser for them, that matches their other dresser, but they discontinued it, and I had no idea, till they had sold out! UHG! And it was marked down half price too! I only wish I had known! The toy organizer matches too, but it would of been nice to of had another dresser. ;(
So I'm going to count my money later today and see what we can do about all that.
Good Morning Sarah, Patty, Glenna and all who may follow! Sarah, I love reading about what you are cooking. Your new recipe sounds delicious! If you do not mind I am going to write it down and try doing it gluten-free. From the sounds of it, it is mostly gluten-free except maybe for the soup. However, it sounds wonderful. I will try no more care tricks!!! Hopefully, DH fixed it when he got home last night. Patty, I think getting together with cousins is fun! During our years here I have had some cousins come to visit other people in Arizona. They have all called me up except one to get together at least one time with them. Anyway, it is fun to get together with people you have not seen for a while. Glenna, you sound busy with housework and your garden. I hope you are able to get outside in your garden later today. I am not sure if I will get in swimming today. It is cloudy and suppose to rain. Maybe if it does not rain, when
DH comes home from work (he is working overtime), we can go for a swim. I am planning to dance for exercise in just a little while. Well, today will be doing a lot of housework. I also have laudry to do. I want to clean my bookcases and arrange the books better. Well, everyone, please have a Wonderful Saturday!
It's been rainy in WV so far today. We had a thunderstorm earlier. The wind was gusty. I was afraid our power would go again, but fortunately it didn't.
I'm into laundry today. Also some sweeping and just general cleaning. I can pretty much do whatever I want to-----everything needs done!!
Want to go to the garden later if it isn't raining. I should have some more cukes and squash ready. maybe even more green beans. (i hope!!)
Don't really know what I'll cook today. I thawed out a pork steak, so I guess I'll do something with that. Have been looking at the Lime Nut salad. It sounds very good.
Hope everyone has a blessed and happy day.
HOGWARTS Ms. Glenna
Summer 8 (KaMp MuGgLeS)
Morning Sarah and all,
Couldn't lay abed another minute. I think I need a new mattress, a soft one, mine is extra firm. It just kills my back, when I am having trouble with my back.
I am taking 3 Aleve a day, about 7 hours apart. Though I can feel an improvement each week, it is slow going. Now, enough of that, it will loosen up soon and not be so raw feeling.
Someone asked about festivals. We had the Cherry festival last week. The biggest thing in the area. It lasts for a week, and every other year we have the Blue Angels come and put on an air show. Amazing. We went to see them once, and they are truly amazing. We don't go anymore, always too hot and too many people. So many people. As we live in a resort area, we have lots of restaurants and things to choose from. I think we have 5 McDonald's and Burger King's in town. Also lots of other restaurants, more expensive. This is a great place to visit if any of you want a vacation. hint hint hint
Now we wait for the coho (salmon) festival at the end of August. Right in our little town. A flea market, parade, etc.
In winter, a neighboring town always has a winter festival, though we never go, as it is winter in Michigan...lol...though many go and enjoy it.
We usually don't get involved with the festivals and parades. we are stick-in-the-mud's...(someone that doesn't venture out )
Hubby will be going to town again today for yard sales. I am staying home. I do not like that anymore. Now if they had yard sales in spring or fall, I would like it more. But it is too hot and humid for me in the summer. Sarah, and others, how on earth do you do it? As it is, I go from AC house, to AC car, to AC store, etc...rarely venturing out of the house.
It's only 74 here this morning so far. Supposed to get into the high 80's, I believe.
Yesterday I picked up Mom and we went shopping and visiting with cousins. Now these cousins, are Mom's age. But two of their dd were there, visiting from CaL., and one that lives here was able to come too, and we got to see them. Had a nice time. A table of 7 cousins. Nice for a visit.
I am keeping my frig so clean. One little spill, and I clean it right up. I know, I know, I was supposed to do that with the other one too...lol
I have been crocheting on my large rectangle scrap ghan. Now that it is close to being done, the leftover yarns that I am using, don't go completely around the ghan. I like it, but many won't. It looks like Joseph's coat of many colors. Just whatever smaller ball of yarn that I have, I add it on. Sure takes a long time to go completely around it. Just around and around and around. No pattern to think about, idiot work. I love idiot work. Very colorful. I think when this one is done, I will start another one, as yarn becomes smaller balls. These are not those tiny balls of yarn, but more like half skeins of yarn.
I had started to slowly let cheese into my diet again. Thus started the vicious cycle, for me, of cravings, sugars, chips, doritos, more cheese. Finally dawned on me yesterday, that the cheese started it. bad cheese... anyway, once I let cheese back into my diet, even if just a little bit, it started the cravings for the other addictive (to me foods, as stated above. That was eye opening for me. So back to vegan completely, except for butter and miracle whip for now...lol. So far, they don't bother me.
I made 5 loaves of luscious whole wheat bread the other day. I probably already told you about it. Pics on my blog.
I also have carrots, celery, mushrooms, tomatoes, lettuce, that long cucumber that doesn't have seeds.
I also have peaches, nectarines, cantaloupe, bananas, blueberries, grapes. I won't be without something to eat, that's for sure.
Well, my back is feeling some better, I get chattier. poor girls, having to wade through this message.
Have a good day, and I will check back in with you later.

How's everyone doing? So far so good here. It is still dark so I can't tell about the weather yet. I sneaked a peek at Weather.com and our temp is 83 at 4 am. Now I'm hot!!!
So what are everyone's plans today? I know Jan has something going on because I remember she is taking the blueberry salad. I'm hoping for a peaceful day for a change around here.
Yesterday I got new front windows. They are really nice. They are tinted, double paned (or whatever you call double windows) and they slide side to side. The window is most of the wall on the front of the house.
Yesterday I made a new dish. I kind of combined two recipes together and added different veggies. Hmmm I guess in other words I made up a recipe. I put a package of brown and wild rice in the bottom of a 9X9 pan, then added a can of defatted chicken broth, put a nice layer of green beans, 1 pound of chicken breast cut in 4 pieces, chopped celery, green pepper and onion and over the top I iced it with a can of cream of chicken soup. The only seasoning I used was black pepper and garlic minced. I baked it for 1 hour covered. I let it sit for a bit after taking it from the oven. I had this with a salad and really enjoyed it! It is kind of H.E.'s recipe for Layered Chicken with my additions. The only thing I will do different next time is that I will use frozen mixed veggies or mixture of cauliflower, broccoli and carrots. Isn't it fun to experiment in the kitchen? Sometimes I really enjoy it.
Jan you were asking about things going on in our communities, here we have a ton of festivals. I should say some here, some close by. There are shrimp festivals, seafood festivals, strawberry festivals, fairs, church fairs, SPIFF (an international folk fair) and tons of others. October is a fun month here because of our large German community we have a boatload of Oktoberfest celebrations.
Jan enjoy your day!
Ann isn't it nice to relax at home in shorts? I see people pass my house in outfits I would NEVER leave my house with them on!! Would you please tell me the name of the ham slices you get? You told me once but I can't find where I wrote it down. Is it Jones Farm Dinner ham slices? For some reason that is sticking in my mind.
Cindy I hope you get a ride in today or some baby time.
Glenna that was so cute what happened at the reunion! Sound like it was a lot of fun even if it had to be indoors.
Louise no more car tricks! Hope you get a swim in today.
Patty I have you in my prayers, hope you are starting to feel better.
Shar I hope your week got better! Sometimes it just seems like everything is saved up for us to happen all at once!
Heather what are you up to this weekend? Is DH off so he can help with packing etc? How do the girls get along? Sisters usually have a special bond.
Has anyone heard from Iris? I miss her, she is such a sweet person and added so much to our little group.
Grandma Judy hope all is well with you!
Have a blessed day everyone!
DON'T FORGET YOUR WATER!
