Sarah, It's so good to hear from you. You would love the Bob's Red Mill store. Quinoa is strange grain. I have a recipe using it from the last time I was there. It's probably on their website.
Ann, Once when DH was working in NY he went to the Corning factory and brought me home a beautiful, delicate Corningware snowflake ornament. I am not sure what it's made of but sort of like a very fine porcelein. I've never seen anything quite like it.
Patty, I'm sorry to hear your back is still troubling you and you are in my prayers.
Tomorrow I meet up with the TOPS group in the early afternoon to decorate the boat that will be in the parade. Some of the ladies will sit in the boat or on the truck that will be hauling it. One of our ladies is a great accordian player so she will be sitting in the back of the truck playing music. Some of us will be walking. I'll wear my blue TOPS shirt that says It's Time For TOPS or something like that. In the evening there are fireworks over the river so we will watch some of that.
All day has been clear. Still over cast and muggy but we made it to visit with DH sister and back to the rig before the rain started. We took her to lunch at Chili's. Last night DH nephew took us to Chedders and I had a chicken, pineapple salad that was too spicy. Today at Chili's I had the same thing and it was delicious. Different from the same salad in Ca. The one here had wedges of fresh pineapple.
DH sister is 6' 1" tall and now walks so bent over she is about 5' tall. Such a shame.
Jan, I love the Corning Ware/Revere stores too. The one I was in yesterday was a Kitchen Connection the the other one was a gourmet type of food store. Lots of bottles stuff as well as cooking pots and pans. Today we drove by a Corning plant. I didn't see a store by it though. I thought all the Corning stuff came from New York state.
Sarah, do you have a Costco near you? That is where I buy dried cranberries. The ones in my salad today were huge. Much bigger than the ones I buy.
We just had one clap of thunder. I think that will be our fire works for today.
Just like a bad penny...I'm back! I have an air conditioner again!!!!! What a week that was! Thank you all for the prayers, it is a real blessing to have so many caring, wonderful friends!!
Jan what kind of peppers? Hot peppers or sweet? There are so many things you can do with peppers, I try to always have them in the house. Isn't it exciting to peek through the leaves and see the veggies? I use to get such a kick out of watching them bud and then the little veggie pop out.
Ann the outlet mall sounds like a ball. I have a Farberware pot I've been using for 10 years now. When I got the pot it had a glass lid. I was cooking a pot of soup and raised the lid to peek in and the lid shattered. First time that ever happened to me. It sounds like you are hitting a lot of places on your trip. It is great that you get family visits in too. And I'm betting you can't wait to get home!
What are everyone's plans for the 4th? Are you watching the fireworks? Going to a cookout or picnic?
Jan I meant to tell you I finally made my order from Bob's Red Mill. I'm really excited. I finally am getting some quinoa! I got a newsletter in my email today and was kicking myself for ordering so quick because now their dried cranberries are 20% off! Next time I'll get some. It would be so much fun to visit their store.
The oatmeal is cooking and I'm glancing at the weekly garden program. DS#1 is at work, DS#2 is here enjoying a long weekend. We had quite a bit of rain yesterday but today looks good. I'm sure we'll get out for a hike or maybe a walk on the beach.
I have some peppers growing! First time I've planted them.
Ann, It's great you get to spend time with family. There's an outlet in Seaside but an even better one in Centralia, WA (I think that's where it is) with a Pfaltsgraf (SP?) and Revereware &/or Corningware stores. Those are my favorites.
good Morning All, We are between Dallas and Fort Worth for the week end. It has been over cast with clouds and drizzle that sometimes turns into real rain. Not as hot as it could be but still plenty warm and so muggy.
Yesterday on the drive here we stopped at a Factory Outlet Mall we've been to many times. DH fixed his lunch and took a short nap while I went in a couple of stores. There use to be a Koret store here that I liked but it is gone now. I did find a 4 quart Farberware pot I've been looking for with handles on both sides rather than one long handle. By the time I got through the two kitchen shops it started to pour and it didn't let up. Of course we parked the motor home in the back of the parking lot out of the way. I got soaked walking back to it.
DH nephew and wife came over last night and took us to dinner. We have never interacted with them before. I guess old age brings everyone together. He is retired but his wife still works because she likes her job. I think she also likes that he does the house work and cooks too.
Today we are driving about an hour to hour and a half today, to where DH sister is in an assisted living place. We plan to take her out to lunch if she wants to go. It won't be the most interesting time as she is always complaining about every thing and any thing. I'm sure you all know the type.
Louise, I think that is terrible that you have to provided a copy of your marriage license to your health insurance. They ought to beable to verify that over the phone with your social security number.
Patty, I hope the back is better. I some times get bored with the colors I am knitting with. When I knit a hat all one color it seems like it takes forever. Much more interesting to add color stripes.
Jan, I need to get out my new walking shoes too. I've been wearing these for almost two years and that is nuts. I have a new pair in a box. I was going to get them out when the rain came and didn't want to get them wet.
Cindy, I bet you enjoyed your mountain get away even though it was a short one..
Everyone have a wonderful week end.
DH is telling me I must get dressed so we can leave.
