I'm not a big fan of control garments. . .way too uncomfortable and nothing like feeling like a sausage for hours on end.

Paulissa, I'm sure glad we don't wear girdles any more. I remember my mother had a Playtex rubber one with tiny holes in it. She rode the bus from Ma. to Memphis when our first son was about 6 weeks old and she had a blister where every hole was from sitting so long. I use to wear hats and gloves too when I was in my late teens. Then I always had to wear a hat when I was in the military. No more.

Jan, the only soaps I remember goes wayyyyyy back, Stella Alice or something like that and Our Girl Friday. Maybe that one wasn't a soap. There was another one----- Helen Trent ???

Sarah, I love to dress up when I go out. I love a nice dress, jewelry and the whole nine yards. I just bought tickets to the Aksarben coronation and ball here. I have a black velvet gown with a white chiffon fishtail train in the back. The front is very Audrey Hepburn with a grecian neckline. I have the tiara from my wedding, which is lavender Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls.

I figure every woman should go to a ball at least once in her life. . .

I have Wizard of Oz shakers, Betty Boop, Precious Moments and several others. In one of my junking trips a few weeks back I found a shadow box with a a glass door so now I can put them on display in the kitchen while still keeping them dust free.

Jan, my grandmother wore lots of necklaces and brooches. Her ears were not pierced so she had lots of clip on earrings. One set of jewelry in particular I loved and I sure wish I knew what happened to it. My grandfather had given it to my grandmother on their 1st married Valentine's Day. It was a porcelain heart with a pink rose painted on it and surrounded by lime green crystals in a circle around it. It was so colorful and beautiful with the matching earrings. I've been looking for years for something similar with no luck.

Paulissa, What kind of costume jewelry did your grandmother have?

Mom had pierced ears and liked the little, tiny jewel earrings. I think one of those is in the box- very small blue stone with tiny gold frame. She also liked little tiny pendants. The one I always thought was "glamorous" is rhinestones with some black stones of some sort. We weren't fancy people so I've been trying to remember where she would wear this. Maybe an evening wedding.

Ann, Men sure think differently than women, don't they?! Good idea about setting him up with books, etc. in the camper (or was it something else).

Sarah, When I quit smoking something that helped me was learning to take good, slow, full breaths periodically. People use it for stress control nowadays - but I think it's that taking deep breaths you are missing. Also have you found something to keep your hands busy? That's another biggy when you quit. I always enjoy what you have to share with us. I think of you as a sunny, cheerful person.

I collect things but not salt & pepper shakers. I have one set of Mary Engelbreit scotty dogs - one black and one white. I can see why people like to collect them - they are usually small and some are really clever.

Did anyone here watch Guiding Light? I can remember it many years ago when I was a kid, home from school when I was sick. I think there was a character on there named Jo and I can just see that actress in my mind.

Hi Everyone!

Ya'll are so interesting and then here I am with zip happening! LOL I enjoy hearing about all the things going on with everyone.

It is a beautiful day here, pretty warm but no storms.

I am realizing that when I quit smoking I am not hungry but I'm substituting eating for smoking. I know what is happening but I can't seem to stop it. I hate that I can't get back on track. Ok I'm done whining.

I use to collect salt and pepper shakers too. Then I got tired of dusting them so boxed them up and tossed them. I still look at the ones in catalogs. I like the unique ones.

Talking about the jewelry made me think of the times when people dressed up more than we do now. Hats and gloves were common items, I can't remember whenever I saw someone wearing gloves. Casual is good! No girdles!! emoticon

Good Afternoon. I have come to rest and regroup my thoughts. Still gathering stuff to put in the RV.

Paulissa, when I was a teen I had a salt and pepper collection. I had quite a few. My DM sold them for me when she came across someone that was also a collector. I didn't want them any more.

Jan, I too had a few pieces of old jewelry from my grandmothers. One day a long time ago DD had a male friend visiting her when we weren't home. He left, never to be seen again along with my jewelry. I had my class ring plus the ones of DH and my mother and dad. You could see in indention in the jewelry box where they had been.

DH is kid sitting again today. GS came home from school on Wed. with a sore throat. Today he is coughing. Last night my DS let him go to football practice but he wasn't to do any 'running'. I could wring my DS neck. Of course GS doesn't get sick on the days his mother has him. DS is self employed so can't afford to close his shop. We'll be gone until the end of Oct. so I told him to gather up some books and puzzles and let GS stay in the motor home that is parked at DS shop about 25 feet from the office.

It is warming up here a little. Maybe it seems so because the nice breeze is gone.

Hi jan, I'm glad that looking at the jewelry brings back good memories. My grandmother had beautiful costume jewelry and I sure wish I had some of it.

Not much going on here today: just spent the morning at breakfast with my mentor laughing and planning my appearance with him at the Great Plains Theatre Conference at my school. Now it's on to lunch and then maybe a run to get my hair trimmed and the thrift store. I want to get some weeding done this evening.

I have all of my collector plates to get hung back up in my dining room and I need to wash the salt/pepper shaker collection so I can get them put away and move on to the curio. We'll see how much I have the energy for.

Tomorrow we're heading to an inter-tribal powwow at my college.

Friends I think this month is going faster than August did! It looks like another sunny day.

I got a good walk in last night. Today will be another and then this afternoon I'm going to see Julie & Julia. My friend and I are bringing a Vitatop and a Diet Coke in our purses - no popcorn.

Ann, I'm guessing the neighbors finally moved the RV?

Sarah, what's cooking at your house today?

Paulissa, good report on going back to work. I felt the same after surgery but the good news is the energy does come back.
