As I recall Gaylord MI is on the 45th parallel. How many miles north of Gaylord are you? Salem in Oregon is also on the 45th parallel. Salem is about forty miles south of Portland and Portland is 76 miles south of our Freeway exit. We then drive 30 miles east and another 28 north. Anyway, I am sure there must be someone on this list that lives still further north. I seem to recall someone from Alaska, but perhaps that was a different list.

It is going to be 88 degrees here today which is going to spawn severe storms later today. I need to get my Easter lily and hyacinths planted. I think a run to the garden center is in order this weekend.

I've been thinking about getting that set as well. I love the watp but need a little something else and the dancing ones are fun and Richard cues the moves better than some of the other ones I have that just make me feel clumsy lol!!!

I have to put down some slug it and then we can begin tilling for a veggie garden. I'm ready to plant flowers!!!!!

Ann, Those are the same Richard Simmons videos I have. I think you'll remember more of the songs when you hear them. I like Sweatin' 3 (Do You Want To Dance, Name Game, I Get Around, Born To Be Wild, California Dreamin').
At our TOPS state recognition days part of the program was two ladies who sat up on stage with zippy music playing and they sort of "danced" or moved their arms around to the music and had all of us move, too. It was surprising how much muscle you used to just sit there and dance.

Linda, your little dog is like my sister's Jack Russell terrier. She rules the world! She just got another one (a pup) and this one is mellow and loves to be cuddled and petted. I think the trick to emotional eating is to recognize it (not hungry/just want to eat)- stop it- and go do something else. I used to have a list of other things to do but need to make a new one. Some can be plain useful like cleaning out the "junk drawer" but others can be fun like embroidery or calling a friend. A really great one is to get out of the house (that's where I overeat) and walk.

Patty- I think Deb is from Michigan. She's in school now but still reads and comes here when she can.

Evening,
My Mom is doing very well. She has dementia too, or the start of it. She had been living alone with my brother and I checking in with her every day, and he lives only 1/4 mile away, so he went down there more than once a day to check on her.

Hoping that will be the case when she is off the strong pain meds from the surgery.

Well, you asked about the weather up here. Am I the northernmost poster? Northern Lower Michigan?

Anyway, it is supposed to be 74 tomorrow. Yahoo, windows can finally be opened. It's not supposed to stay that warm, but it surely will be nice tomorrow.

Gardening. I love gardening, but we live in the woods, so can't have much of a garden anymore. We usually grow some tomatoes, and a few other things, but not enough to can, as our yard is small.

I do buy veggies to can, mostly tomatoes last year. I canned 2 bushel. I love home canned tomatoes. oh my, yes I do. Does anyone else do home canning?

I also made lots of cherry jam, as my brother has a fruit farm, and he graciously gives me free fruit. Good brother.

Now I am going to bed. Need to go back to Mom's tomorrow at 2. But hubby and I can go to senior center for lunch tomorrow first. That will be fun.

Have a great evening everyone.
Patty

Hello all, I don't do much gardening either, everything just dies, but I thought this year Id get one of those topsy turvy things where the tomatoes grow out the bottom. I think you can plant other things in them as well. I went for a nice walk last night, I need to do that more often while the weather is as nice as it is in the evenings. It's already way too hot during the day here now. My little 9 lb dog went with me and barked at everyone that went by like she was going to tear them up. She just doesn't realize how small she is! She even nipped at a big dog that stopped to say hi. He didn't try to fight back thankfully, she would have been toast. Im still struggling with my emotional eating but Im getting glimmers of hope here and there that show that I'm making some progress in the right direction. Unfortunately the scale's not really moving. I have lost though, about a pound and a half in the last three weeks. That's pretty much the norm for me, 1/2 a pound a week. Take care everyone and have great evening.

Miss Linda

Jan, my Sweatin to the Oldies tapes came this afternoon. They were here when I returned from the beauty shop. I have listened to the first one. It is a 90 min. tape but not all exercises. These 7 tapes are 20th Anniversary Editions so after about an hour of various songs/exercise there are some interviews of some of the people on the tape which is the Uncut Original release of Sweatin to the Oldies. Some success stories and Richard telling about growning up over weight. Quite interesting. I only recognizeda couple of the songs. Great Balls of Fire and Peggy Sue. In fact the songs listed on the other 6 tapes don't look like any songs I remember either. He says to stay with one tape and only a couple of songs for a week or two and then move on to the next tape that will be a little more of a work out. I sure will need more room than when I walk with Leslie.

The first year I planted potatoes in a half barrel (wine barrel I think) and that was okay. I read you are supposed to change where you plant them and not reuse a spot for 3 years. Last year I planted them in the ground and that didn't work well. Well, I got a few puny potatoes but I have to tell you I didn't want to use them because my cat just LOVED the potato patch, if you know what I mean.
This year I got these woven, black fabric potato bin planters from Gardener's Supply Co. They can be reused and emptied and stored easily in the off-season. I like the idea that you can just tip it over to harvest the potatoes. We don't have rabbits but the raccoons wander through here and dig around to see what you planted. I don't think they'll mess with these bins.

Good Morning. An overcast day and cool. I love it.

Gardening, not my thing but DH has two tomato plants planted. It has been about a month and they don't seem to be doing very much. When he plants tomatoes in the spring they always seem to be ready for picking about the time we takek off and travel.

Lynn, my DS and DIL in N.C. put up an electric fence around their garden. They say sometimes even that doesn't keep the wild animals out.

Jan, my Richard Simmons tapes have been shipped and expected to arrive on the 27th. I'm anxious to see how they are too. I hope they will be a nice addition to my WATP tapes.

DH had a very successful morning walk. Said first he found a quarter, then a dime and then another dime.

I see the neighbors are playing musical motor homes. Our next door neighbor is have major work done on his house and they are staying in a motor home from their church and it is parked in front of our house and theirs. The neighbor across the street keeps his motor home in his back yard and the one had to be moved to get the other one out.

Time to get off to the beauty parlor.

Shar,
About those pesty rabbits in your garden....one idea is to tie up some bars of soap on string and tie these bars..(in their wrappers) around your garden. Rabbits smell them and go away.

This worked for a friend of mine....she says it works for rabbits but not deer.

It's good to rip a LITTLE of the wrapper but no very much. The rain will wash to much of the soap away.

We have to use elec fence for the wildlife here. But sometimes the deer jump the 6 plus foot fence and get in anyway.

Happy gardening,
Lynn

Good morning Patty, Jan and everyone to follow,

Patty sounds like you are a busy lady. How is your Mom doing? I do hope up there where you are at that it is warming up!
Jan do you plant potatos in pots? I want to try my hand at planting some this year which I haven't done in years. I am not going to have a huge garden but big enough for the two of us. Now to keep the darn rabbits out of there. Anyone got any ideas? We have so many.
The day is beautiful and going to warm to the upper 60's. I did manage to hang some clothes outside. I hate running the dryer as it's gas and I can see the money just going out the door!!! We are on propane and it's so expensive.
Well back to my little ones. soon time to fix them lunch. Everyone have a great Thurs.

Shar

Good morning Patty & everyone else,

Our weather turned cooler yesterday. A friend & I went to lunch and when we went in she was saying how nice it was and when we came out we both said "Brrr!"
Yesterday I did a 1 hour walk with the walking poles. They sure make it easier. My planting bags came so I planted potatoes. I want to see if I can still get seed potatoes locally and then I'll plant another container.

I want to walk earlier this morning and then I've got some major cleaning to do since DH has been replacing the bathroom sink & vanity. Right now we've got a big hole in the wall where the medicine cabinet used to be - he's going to hang a mirror over it today. This all started because of a leak in the old, old faucet that couldn't be fixed.

Anyone get their Richard Simmons tapes yet? I'm wondering if these were different from the set I got last year.

Happy healthy cooking today!

Patty, I hope you have a good day with your Mom today.

Good morning,
I am just about ready to go to Mom's again this morning. Need to be there at 10. Yikes, that's only 2 hours from now. I need to get moving. Have not had time to be on here the last few days, so have not read anything that you have all posted. Things will get less hectic for me soon.

Hope you are all doing well, and dropping the pounds.
Patty emoticon
