Linda, HELP book covers emotional eating. For me I replaced eating with other things I enjoy just as much.

Make a list of things to do instead of eat!

Take a bubble bath
Pain Nails
Go to the park

What ever YOU like doing that would be just as enjoyable as eating then force yourself to do them instead of eat, and eventually it becomes habit. I know it has for me.

As for HE daily emails you can sign up for them for 20 dollars a year at the HE website, however, I signed up almost a year ago (and paid), but have only gotten around 30, and haven't received any in over a month. I didn't receive any for many months before that either. So I'm not sure exactly what a "year" consist of......but any way, you can sign up for it, but don't expect to really get daily emails. It's more like sporadicly here or there-with months in between.

Ann, the Salvation Army helped me once upon a time so I always like to hear of others helping them out. We also give to their cause.

Jan, I am so glad to hear that your son was OK after the gas leak. Hope you find that bowl! LOL!!! You can win that TOPS contest. Go Jan!!!

Linda: It's great you found a soup you enjoy. I've never been good at cooking ALL Healthy Exchanges recipes for one meal but I might use a main dish recipe or dessert. Emotional eating is a mean critter and it can sneak up on you at the best of times. One thing that helps me is writing down everything I eat whether it's on my plan or not. Seeing it written or knowing I will have to write it down makes me more accountable. I go to TOPS weekly and that is another face-to-face accountability. We just started a contest where we get points each week (10 weeks) if we exercise, drink 64 oz. water, lose weight or maintain if we're at goal, bring a canned good for the local food bank, write down everything we eat. TOPS is the only group I've seen that has people who've reached their goals attend regularly for support.

Vicki, It's good to hear from you. It's nice you have a good addition to your child care group. Sorry to hear your DH isn't doing much better. Has to be really frustrating for both of you.

Ann, I hope someone really enjoys the table & chairs.

No, we haven't found the cat bowl. DS has many of his own things stored in his room for when he is on his own again so I think the bowl is under something.

Well, we had a scare this morning. DS got up and said he didn't sleep well and had to open his window because he smelled fumes. After checking it out, we discovered the gas barbecue grill somehow was releasing some propane and that must have gotten into the vent in his end of the house. DH closed the thing down and it's okay now.

We actually had a bit of snow on the ground this morning but it didn't last long at all. Now it's foggy and I can hear the fog horns every now and then.

Tomorrow I'm making that Cherry Chicken from the January newsletter.

Good Afternoon, I came to the computer to work on the Arizona Caravan but you can see I got side tracked.

Good to hear from you Vicki. That must be really tough for your DH to reach the place where he knows he won't beable to go back to work. You are doing so good girl, down 5.5 lbs. Boy, I'm impressed.

Jan, I have always been so afraid of pressure cookers. My mother use to use one and to hear the steam blowing off must have scared me.

I hear the Salvation Army truck is here. #2DS had a very nice table and 6 chairs he replaced and wanted to sell them but of course no one is buying right now. He thought I might like the set but it is just too big for our family room. I have a smaller table and 4 chairs out there that were also his. I'm not too proud to take hand me downs. I hope someone gets good use from this set the Salv. Army is getting. It has a very pretty tile insert and blond colored wood. When grandson did his homework on the table, DS said he was always putting a hole in his paper from the grout of the tile.

Linda, if we all knew how to deal with emotional eating I don't think we would need to lose weight. I knit while I watch TV so I'm not feeding my face. Another thing I use to do was read cook books when I was hungrey, looking for a recipe to make. Of course 99% of the time I didn't have all the ingredients and after 15 - 20 min. had gotten by the "I wanna eat" thoughts. Also most of the recipes would have required baking and I was always looking for a recipe to fix and eat NOW. Keeping busy does help. Try message boards on web sites in a field that you are interested in.

Jan, have you found the kitty's dish?

Good Morning!
Have been MIA for awhile but have been thinking of all of you and hoping that you are all doing well. I am trying to stay focused and am down 5.5 for the month so far. Now if I don't take too many steps backwards I will be doing OK.

Heather, I haven't been here in some time. I hope you are doing OK and the baby is OK, too.

Paulissa, you have had some trying times with your one professor. Sounds like something that should be reported to the higher ups. Hope you can resolve the issues and pull a good grade from the class. Have enjoyed your daily motivation posts on the HE mail list since I wasn't getting here.

Hubby and I are doing OK. I have had a new 8 month old start in the day care. A cutie! Good baby, too, which is nice. Finally got all of my tax notices out to clients from last year. That is a weight lifted off of my shoulders! Hubby has not been progressing much from his injury at work (11/07). He had gotten permission to walk down the hall to the bathroom 3 to 5 times a day but after a few days he had a lot of pain again so he is now back to the wheelchair all of the time. He is realizing that he is never going to be able to go back to work and do what he did. He is now looking into disability. I think workman's comp wants to settle soon, too, although they have not come right out and said it. He sees the Dr on Thursday again. Otherwise the family is doing good.

I've made a few JoAnna recipes this month but haven't had time to even think about posting about them. We have enjoyed all of them though!

I hope everyone here is doing good and welcome to any new team members!

Well I made my soup last night, enough for the rest of the week's lunches. It is German Potato Soup from Eating Healthy with a Man in Mind. It's pretty good. I bought some rolls to go with it. I can't do the rest of my meals using HEs until Friday, payday, but this is a start. I was wondering if any of you have any advice on how to deal with emotional eating? This is my biggest struggle. I just can't seem to get control of it. Any tips will be appreciated.

Thanks

Miss Linda
