Swimlover, I hadn't heard of the Out Of Darkness walk either. It would be very meaningful to put a positive spin in remembrance of a loved one. The weather must be mild in Arizona in December? How long will the walk be? You'll have to let us know how your training progresses.
Vicki, When I go to any kind of sales I ask myself where it will go and do I have room to store it. I found out the house down the street was built by the father of the people running the sale. He loved that house so much, he kept it (unrented) during the years he worked in Seattle.
The guys are watching Dirty Harry movies and I'm out here watching Murder She Wrote reruns.
Jan, I love going to estate and rummage sales however the past few years I haven't gone to as many as I have been trying to de-clutter instead of bringing more into the house. They are fun though and occasionally I find something I really want and sometimes even need!
Swimlover, I never heard of a walk for suicide before. Isn't it great to be able to do these various walks in memory of people that have meant so much to us? I haven't done one other than Relay for Life in a few years now as I was having a lot of trouble with my knees and legs but if things continue to improve the way they have I may sign up for a few 5K's next year. I think I will make that my goal. My daughter and I have walked a few together and maybe she would join me. They are a piece of cake for her. She did the 3 day 60 mile walk for Breast Cancer 2 years ago.
Happy Labor Day to all!

Good Monday Morning! Jan, that was some hike you did yesterday!! I give you credit, I could not do it. This morning I did a 15 minute 1 mile walk outside. I am starting to train for The Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Arizona on December 6, 2008. It is a walk both to prevent suicide and to assist those affected by suicide. The past few years I had been doing the Walk for Diabetes in memory of my dad. However, this year I decided it was time to do this walk in his memory also. This October 4th will make 28 years to the day that he took his life. It is a 3-5 mile walk so I have a lot of work to do. I had been doing Leslie Sansone's Walking DVD's but I know that I need to walk outdoors also. Today is going to be spent doing more housework. I have to go grocery shopping sometime today. Well, everyone, please have a GREAT LABOR DAY! GOD BLESS!

I am surprised I can move! On yesterdays thread is a description of the 6 hour hike I took yesterday. Kids are talking about a different one today and DH & I are saying "Uh.....I don't know!"
I've been doing my Monday morning routine. The floors are swept & mopped. Kitchen cleaned up. Don't know if I'll do too much more other than cook for everyone.
Yesterday, down the street a couple of blocks there was an estate sale. I got two old, great Revereware pots and lids. I decided I'll go back to see if there are any left this morning. I think the older ones are better made. Golly - they even had the copper bottoms shined up. Not all of the house was open but I could see into the kitchen- there was a round oak table & chairs and on the wall was a spot for a whole bunch of Revereware pots and lids that weren't for sale. I loved the way the kitchen windows looked out the back and there is the cutest little hobbit-type house behind them. I think garage/estate sales are fun.
