Good Evening. We are settled in for the week end. The coast is cooler than inland and DH didn't want to take a chance of not finding a place to camp for the week end. Lots of Olympic watching. I'm even getting to like beach volley ball.

Deb, I can just picture you trying to get your panty hose on. I haven't wore any in so long I would have trouble too. When I retired I said I didn't care if I ever wore hose or a dress again. DH likes using a mouse and I hate using it. Was so happy when we bought a lap top.

Vicki, you asked if we ever go east. Last year we made it to Acadia Nat'l Park in northern Maine. You can't get any further east than that. My DM lives in Mass. What kind of music will be at your concert. DH and DD love country and DH likes bluegrass.

Heather, what fun swapping embroidery with someone in another country.

Jan, I remember one dress that my DM made that was a two piece dress in plaid with the top having a fish tail. I know it was grade school but not sure which grade. DM made all my clothes. How I hated material and pattern shopping with her.

I hope everyone has a cool week end. My cell is beeping that the battery is getting low.

I am making 2 loaves of white bread that my elderly auntie taught me to make when I was first married. I tried on my own - lumps of rock, lol. Then she showed me how to do it. Then I'm making another loaf of No-Knead Harvest Bread. It's a white & whole wheat bread with cranberries, golden raisins and chopped walnuts. You mix the dough by hand and then let it rise overnight or 8 hours minimum, then form into a round loaf or oval to raise again and bake.

That's horrible about the "food lady's" building burning down. She must have had back-up records even to know who her clients were.

Have fun at the concert. Who will you see?

Yes, it is nice when family is close. Our daughter is 45 minutes east of us near Lake Michigan. Close enough but far enough that you aren't there everyday, unless needed! Then we wil head about 30 minutes south down to Milwaukee for the concert. Will have dinner somewhere on the way. Just hope being it is Friday night that the wait lines won't be too long. Still lots of people eating out!

Yes, lots of the kids will eat things here that they won't eat at home. LOL Mostly because they see their friends eating something so they have to be cool and eat it soo. They often discover that they like what they didn't think they did. Parents are often surprised. I am on the food program, too, and just got a call this morning from my "food lady". There office burnt to the ground a couple of days ago. I never heard anything about it. She has to continue doing what she did, though, and will be coming at 8:30 on Monday morning to observe breakfast. I will have a 10 month old, 3 year old and 3rd grader here then. That will be fun!

What kind of bread did you make? I'll wait till less humidity to do that! Hope you are done with that room soon.

Talk to you tomorrow!

Vicki

Vicki, it's nice you get to leave earlier to go to your daughters. It's great having family close enough to watch things while you're gone.

When I did home child care many years ago I also experienced some of the eating problems. I planned and logged all meals, sent in a report so cost was covered by USDA (think that's what it was). It was interesting to see what veggies kids would eat and find out they enjoyed when given a chance. The worst eating problem kid had severe allergies and I often wondered if they were caused by lack of good nutrition. Mom bribed him offering doughnuts. Wonder what happened to that little guy. The fun part of child care is seeing their personalities at a young age.

Bread is rising. Back to removing my things from the room my son will be staying in.

Hi Jan, wow, your post brought back lots of memories of the school shopping and first days of school etc. Fun times! I have found myself also yearning for nice Fall days lately. Every year the heat and humidity bother me a little more. Those nice Fall days would sure be welcomed right now. Last winter with the LONG winter we had and the record snowfalls, etc. etc. I never thought I would complain about the summer heat again but...I am!

Ended up with no day care kids today. The 4 sisters I watch are sick. No wonder with the garbage diet they eat! Those kids are sick all the time. That will allow us to be able to leave earlier to head to Milwaukee for the Johnny Winter concert tonight. Going to stop at our daughter's house on the way. They are on vacation this week and just want to check on things and water flowers, etc. if they need it.

Hope everyone is having a good day and the weekend is beautiful for everyone!

Good morning,

I've got all the windows open to let in some cool morning fresh air. I'll head out to water the garden soon. I think a big salad of romaine, tomatoes and shrimp will be good for dinner. Lots of water today and Crystal Lite.

Can you believe we are smack dab in the middle of August? I find myself longing for fall. Even without school-age kids or grandchildren I look forward to seeing the school buses. When I was a child it always seemed we went school clothes shopping on the hottest day. Ugh! Trying on winter coats when it's hot. But then on the first days of school, even if it was still hot, we wanted to wear our brand new sweaters, etc. Lol. When I was about 6 I remember one year my aunts took me school shopping and I still remember one dress (we all wore dresses or skirts in those days) that was grey with burgundy stripes (vertical) and puff sleeves. Of course, clothes are so much easier to care for now. My Mom did A LOT of ironing!

How is your weekend looking?
