Vicki, we did assume those houses (on the news) were on waterfront property. I'm amazed.
Ann, I hope you will get relief from the allergies. Isn't it odd how some allergy years are far worse than others?
I think Make A Joyful Table is my very favorite title of the Healthy Exchanges books. On my son's birthday (last Sunday) I set the table using the dishes Mom gave me. The kids remembered them from Thanksgiving dinners during their growing up years. I remember them from my growing up years. I am just so thankful JoAnna Lund made so many wonderful, healthy recipes we can enjoy.

Ann, those two houses you saw (one with part breaking off and falling into the water and the other whole house sliding into the water) were homes that did NOT have waterfront property. The lake (Lake Delton) over spilled its banks and formed this new channel that drained the lake into the nearby Wisconsin River. Those houses fell into the newly formed channel. The new channel also wiped out a wide section of a highway. That lake drained in about two hours they say. Amazing! The power of that water was unbelievable. Now all of that debris is washing downriver and they are afraid it will damage other damns and also create damns of debris that will force the water to go in other areas it doesn't belong. Lake Delton is about an hour and 15 minutes N-NW of us. They are checking another damn about 30 minutes from us right now. We also have a damn in our little village that they are keeping an eye on as we live a block away from a 2800 acre lake. More rain is expected tonight.

Glad your appt went good. I have allergies, too. Right now the air is full of cotton blowing all over from the cottonwood trees. Makes a mess!

Oh my, what pictures the paper had today of the damage from the storms back east. On the news last night there was one large home just crumbling into the river. Hard to believe such a big home would give way like that.

My Dr. app't was just fine. Just the annual check up. My only problem this year has been allergies. In the past I've had the drippy nose from allergies but this year has been something else. The weather man says this is the worse year yet for allergies and it started early Feb. and still bad. They blame the fires last year. I don't quite understand that either but know I've never had any thing last this long.

I have one more recipe to type from Make A Joyful Table that I started last night when the computer froze up. I haven't decided which book to tackle next. I have a lot of Jo's books but not all the ones listed on the Ruth Bond site.

Jan, yes it is really something here in Wisconsin from all the rain, and the little snippets that you are seeing is just a drop in the bucket of what is really going on. This covers 30 counties in the state. It seems every village, town and city has some kind of flooding going on.

Thanks for your concern and I hope your area stays safe from further damage, too.

I got out for a walk yesterday when it was misting & blustery, but that stopped and it was a good walk. Today it's just rain, rain, rain and only 48 degrees right now. It will warm up a little starting Wednesday. With the bad December storm here all this rain could bring some more slides or more trees down.
Vicki, I hope all is well in your area today. It's awful seeing those news reports of what's happening in Wisconsin.
Ann, Hoping for good reports from your doctor.
Deb, Hope you find the right job soon.

Thanks, Ann. That looks pretty interesting. I checked out a few different things but will have to spend a little more time there.

The National Gueard has been called out in southern Wisconsin to help with the clean-up. Lots on the Weather Channel from the area, too. Heard we were suppose to get two more inches of rain later this week. Hope not.

LOL! My spell check doesn't like the word "each" either! Wonder why?

Ann, I hope your Dr appt results are all good.

Good Afternoon, I'm sorry you ladies are having so much rain. I wish you could send a little of it to the west coast. We sure don't need 11 inches. I think every house on the street with float away if we had that much in a week.

Deb, my typing speed is improving too, but not the spelling. Thank goodness for spell check. I still can't figure out why spell check doesn't like the work 'Each' Every time I type that it pops up in spell check.

Vicki, are you familiar with the Ruth Bond web site? If you aren't, go to Heather's post of 5/25/08 under the Link to Judy's thread that has many responses. Just scroll down.

I'm going to ask Heather to post the Ruth Bond link in the Sticky she had made requesting no replies. That would be a good place for it not to get lost. Every time I try and type it, it just doesn't come out right. I do have it in my favorites.

This was annual doctor check up for me. App't was at 8 a.m. and I sat on the table only 1/2 covered in paper, with my legs dangling for a good 1/2 hour. Then at the lab they were having computer problems. Darn if the Dr. office wasn't having the same problem when I got home and tried to call in the dates DH and I had our shingles shots. Do you think I could get on the computer. Nooooooooo. An hour later I'm back on line. What is going on here?

O K back to recipe typing.

Had a rough weekend weather wise with all of the storms and torrential rains. Lots of flooding in the area. We had water come up through our basement floor as the sump pump and drain tiles couldn't handle all of the water. We have had 11.5 inches of rain here since June 1st. I'm sick of rain!

Thank you so much for all of the recipes. Is there any way to divide them into categories, like soups, desserts, maindish, sidedishes, etc? The list is getting pretty long to look through them all. Just wondering.....

Have a busy week coming up and a family wedding next weekend. Sure glad it wasn't this weekend with the bad weather.

Deb, hope you soon get your power back so you can cool off and use your computer at home.

A good week to all!

Vicki

Good Morning!

Well, we finally got the rough weather that a lot of the plains and midwest has had. Yesterday evening about 5 pm the storm blew in. Had gusts up to 80 mph, lost power, 90 degrees. YUCK! Power came back at 6 hours later. YIPPEE! ! ! ! But this morning - no phone - I can live without the phone, but I need power especially at 90 degrees.

So here I am at the library to use the internet and look for a job. Hopefully when I get home the phone will be working and I can type up some more recipes.

Speaking of recipes, I want to thank those that are helping to add them to the site. Hopefully, we can have an active board - sharing not only recipes, but friendship and encouragement. And possibly that shoulder to lean on when times are tough.

Well, I should hit the job websites and see if anyone is looking for a recipe typist - I've gotten good at that and the typing speed has improved.

Take care,
Deb in MI
