Well, Friday morning (yippee!!). Yesterday I stuck to my three meals a day plus JellO if I wanted it. So I ended up eating an entire thing of sugar free Jello with a can of fruit cocktail (drained!) mixed in. So if I'm being conservative, that was an extra 300 calories. Not bad, but I was still up one pound this morning. I was NOT amused. However, sorry for the TMI, I used the bathroom just a bit ago and I think the pound is probably gone.

Anyway, it's a good reminder that weight loss, even with consistent eating, is not linear. It's not always 3500 calories in/3500 burned = a pound. Over the long run, maybe so, but day to day? Not so much. It would probably be better if I only weighed weekly but I like weighing daily.

So I will chill. Be consistent. The weight will come off on its own time.

So I know it looks like this team isn't tremendously active, however, I have this (losing 100 pounds or so) as a goal and I figure even if I just type to myself, that's all good.

I've gotten back on the wagon this week. I'm not being obsessive about counting calories or weighing or measuring. I know that works, it just doesn't float my boat right now.

Basically I'm doing the No S Diet (no snacks, no sweets, no seconds except on Saturdays, Sundays, special days). To me, it means I have three plates of food a day. I find that works. Because it's limited, I take extra special care to plate tasty, filling food, not just something I grab. I don't really experience physical hunger but I do find that in the late evening I want something, so I've been some poor (but not too bad in calories) choices.

So I can fight that and say NO EATING at night, but fighting against your nature is a recipe for disaster, so instead I'm giving myself an out by having low calorie evening choices - sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello with fruit inside, dill pickles. Hopefully that'll help.

I'm also ending the day and starting the day with actually looking at myself in a full-length mirror. Not just glancing at my face, hair, but full body - seeing me as I really am. Not being hyper-critical, just realistic. I think I've thought in the past that my weight wasn't too bad because I only looked from the neck up, but now I can't say that.

Anyway, so far, so good. And now, time for lunch!

Okay so ya'll heard about that crazy full moon on the 12th right? Well some of my friends and I noticed we felt just crazy hungry all the time this weekend and someone said it was the influence of that moon. Do ya'll believe that? Or were we just making excuses for out of control appetites;o) My appetite is back to normal today pretty much and I still had a loss this week because my "overeating" these days just means extra salad or veggie/lentil soup so it doesn't do that much damage but out-of-control hunger doesn't feel good any way you slice it. It reminded me of the way I felt just before my period every month before I hit the big M... Crazy stuff!!

HELLO! Hello! hello!

This looks like such a great group .. but rather quiet. I just keep posting into different threads in hopes that my shout into the canyon will result in the echo of a voice besides my own.

Today was hard. I became angry at my son last night and let it stew all night and all day. I stayed in my room so as to not say or do something I would regret (more than losing a Saturday). I managed to make reasonable food choices for all that, and have finished the day with a large calorie deficit .. which, quite honestly, I may solve with a Snicker Bar.

I'll be honest and say that sometimes, while chocolate is not a solution, it is comforting. I have avoided the Snicker Bar all day because I did not want to eat it out of emotion. I talked to my husband for a long time this evening (we have a pact not to go to bed mad at each other and through the day my anger had fallen on him, too), and I feel calm. I'm no longer shaking with rage. I may even be able to look at and talk to my son tomorrow! So .. the Snicker Bar is no longer a tool of comfort but a tool to meet my minimum calories for the day.

And that is another victory!

Blessings,
Heather

Me too Jen! I feel bad because I skipped out on the Spring (Q2) challenge but it was just insane around here with our move so I had to spend less time online. I was still eating right and so forth but I didn't lose any weight this Spring which is a testament to how much it helps to have this accountability! Let's ROCK this summer challenge!

Not sure why the team leaders haven't set up the Q3 thread - life happens. I'm sure they'll be back with us soon. In the meantime I have set up a Q3 Reporting Thread under the 25 Pound Quarterly Challenge Forum. I can't make it "sticky" so we'll have to go looking for it in the forum until our dear leaders are able to do that for us:) I'm ready to get this party started!! Who is with me?

Hi everyone, all is well with me. Been working out every day for 30 minutes. It seems to get easier every day.

I ordered a Jillian Michaels DVD today that uses kettle bells. I love my kettle bells but only know so much I can do with them. So I thought this would help and get me doing more strength training.

Hope your all having a great day!

It never ceases to amaze me, how our bodies react to the fuel we feed them. And now that we are trying to get healthy, we are paying more attention and notice much more!

Jen, I'm so glad you are feeling better! Just a little tweak and now your body can perform what it didn't want to just three days ago. Amazing! :)

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for the support. I sure needed it.

Went to see my doctor yesterday and she was great and supportive about my wanting to change my health. I am on day 3 of re-introducing healthy carbs and it has been great. I feel so much better. I have logged everyday and done 30 minutes of exercise every day.

I am so happy to be apart of this group. Thank you all for being my spark friends!

I've been trying to post for several days and track my food and it hasn't been working. Today seems like it is changed YES! I wanted to respond to the Cauliflower Pizza comment.
I love it, and most weeks it is on my weekly rotation. I feel like I am cheating and sometimes guilty when I eat it. I also have found Zuchinni chips that I bake in the oven, and I don't know if you can have too much, but one day I ate 6 Zuchinni's it tasted so yummy. I also make ricotta pancakes to switch up my am eggs and they are great.

Jen: good luck on your changes! I don't have all of the technical info Lorrie has (Lorrie--you're like our resident nutritionist!), but I agree that just because it works on one person doesn't mean it will work for another. Different body chemistries=different results. You're NOT a failure! Stay strong and positive!! emoticon

Jen - Wishing you the very best results on your change in routine. You shouldn't think negative about your result on the LCHF routine nor compare your results to others. You did what you set out to do and it didn't work for your body type. Keeping carbs to 20 daily is a huge accomplishment. Well done. I've recently learned that there are 3 body types: some burn muscle, some fat, and some glycogn (stored sugar). You've just experimented in the LCHF type routine and discovered it doesn't work for you. I will say that T2D's typically do not do well on LCHF routines. They need a little more carb to keep the BS level the same AND they need activity thorughout the day, especially after eating a meal. You might want to check out Dr Forhman's plan for T2D.

Another huge factor for us T2D's is that our body's organs and hormones doen't function normally so they won't perform they way they do for non-T2D people. In a non-T2D when they get really hungry, their liver kicks in an produces sugar for energy and it keeps their BS level at about 90. In a healthy person, they can continue without eating and still exercising off the liver produced sugar for days. My liver doesn't kick in or at least not enough. Even when I haven't been taking any diabetes medicines for months, my BS will continue to drop until I pass out. I've gotten as low as a 45. No bueno! Brain cell start to die anywhere below 85. That means that in a healthy person the liver burns up the fat to produce the sugar. Because that mechanism doesn't work in T2D (as well) it is a lot harder for us to burn fat and we feel horrible on LCHF routines. The same is true with the pancreas organ. Healthy people get the right amount of insulin whenever they need it to adjust the BS regardless of what they eat. The insulin removes the sugar and stores it as fat (in everyone). T2D's don't get the insulin production so the BS stays floating in the system doing damage. The only mechanism that bypasses the sugar needs insulin to remove process is exercise. Exercise burns up the sugar without needing any insulin (thus reducing the fat storage).

SO.......uou are NOT a failure. You've just learned more about your body. Wishing you the very best results on the next step of your journey.

Today I am focusing on a reset. I have been eating LCHF for 3 months. I have seen better control on my blood sugar however, I feel awful all the time. I have a constant headache, dizziness, vision trouble, bad attitude and I can't take it any more. I also have stalled in losing weight which tells me my body does not love this way.

I have been eating no more than 20 grams of carb per day. I am going to slowly increase this to 50 to 100. I also want to reduce the fat/calories. I think that is why I did not lose.

Please wish me luck that this does not reek havoc on my blood sugar, but I can start to feel human again. I have been so miserable and just so disappointed in myself for failing with this diet. Everyone else that does it seems to lose weight like crazy and I feel like a failure. I am also feeling like I am becoming obsessed with worrying about food and I just need a change.

Nikki - You were smart to avoid "regular" pizza (if you get a craving for pizza, try one of the califlower crust recipies). Going overboard on grilled chicken is almost impossible and certainly WAY better than even 2 slices of pizza. Glad you had a great Mother's Day celebration.

There is an SP article on my START page banner about food cravings. If you've read it, tell us which of the recommended alternative activities works for you?

Yesterday I passed on the pizza, opting for grilled chicken instead. I overdid it today though...we went to the steak place...WAY too much! Oh well...tomorrow is a new day, and we stopped at the store and bought loads of salad stuff!

We are doing my mom's Mother's Day today. I am headed to the treadmill in a few to ensure I don't ruin my day...we are going to a restaurant that has the best pizza! Tomorrow, my kiddos are dying to go to the steak place for my Mother's Day dinner. It's going to be a rough weekend food-wise. My plan is to eat nothing but salad for the other meals and try to get in 60 minutes of cardio both days. I may gain a bit, but there are no other "tempting" days until June--Fathers's Day.

Shauna - Thanks for the success tip. I have had a tofu birthday cake but your garbanzo bean chocolate sounds good. I love lhe new profile picture. Your face has changed a lot from the old pictures on your spark page. Good for you!

Nikki - For some people, a moderation method (maybe 80/20) works but for others, they need a clean line in the sand of elimination. Forbidden for now. If you are working your plan and consistently seeing weight loss, then your plan is working. If you are loosing, gaining, and re-loosing the same 10 pounds, that is not working and you need a new plan.

I think it's impossible to say "I'm NEVER eating _____ again". I think it's fine to have a "forbidden" food on special occasions or even from time to time. We just have to plan for them and be conscious of what they can do to us. Like Lorrie said, adding protein before the craving sets in can help. I've heard that also works with other simple carbs, like bread and pasta.
I've never heard of a garbanzo bean chocolate cake, but if it has beans in it, I'm sure the protein in them will help fight the craving to over-do it.

I found sugar is a huge crave starter for me, I cut out sugar except the occasional glass of vino and it has helped me a lot. However, I plan on having garbanzo bean chocolate cake on my birthday.

Shauna - great victory report! You also gathered a valuable piece of data in the you are sugar sensitive. All the more reason to avoid sugar whenever possible. Know all that if you do eat a little ( a choice) that you can expect cravings afterwards AND that with time, if resisted, the cravings will subside. Whenever I choose to eat sugar, I up the protein because it stops the cravings. My sweet craving blocker is a chocolate protein shake. I use Met RX protein plus. It's low carb healthy protein source. I use only 1 scoop and mix it with either cold water or nf milk (30 gm protein). It is also my breakfast almost every day. Give it a try and share your experience with the team.

The documentary FED UP is to be released in theaters today! I want to see it so much, but it's not showing within 200 miles of where I live. I REALLY hope it comes, but, I doubt it will, so I'm anxiously awaiting the DVD release! Here is the trailer...definitely a MUST SEE!

Great job Shana it would be hard to have cake that close and not have a bite. Great show of your willpower.

I love Greys Anatomy looks like a box of Kleenex will be needed for the season final.

Small victory for me -
I cut and plated birthday cake and didn't eat a piece. Actually, that's a HUGE victory for me. I love(d) icing. I did lick the icing off my fingers, which caused me to think about it all night long. Next time I think I'll skip the lick too. emoticon

Jen: AWESOME!!! It's hard to eat out and not over-indulge. Not only are portions too big, but, at least for me, there is that temptation to get something you don't typically eat at home. When you're trying to lose weight, that means less-than-healthy foods....

I am so proud of myself. I went away for a few days and had to eat in restaurants. I usually gain weight. I lost 1 pound and kept my blood sugar under control the entire trip. Big victory for me.

Nikki - that spring cleaning is an ambitious job. Good for you on following through! The experts say that "clutter" in our lives can lead to weight gain. If that's true, then you should have a great weighin this week from the lack of clutter, the calories burned doing the cleanup AND the gym!

Sounds like a fun day, Lorrie! We spent the day cleaning the garage. emoticon This week is our town's "Spring Clean-Up", when you can drag all of the junk you can't fit into trash bags to the curb and the garbage trucks are supposed to take it away. Tons of toddler toys, old bikes/scooters/cracked sandbox/broken Christmas decor, etc. I was so sick of it I used going to the gym as an excuse to bail! emoticon . We still have more to do in the basement, but it was a start!

I've been having a terrible time with eating junk at night. I just can't seem to keep myself on track. I'm in the process of pre-tracking all of my food for tomorrow. Hopefully that will help keep me on track.

So proud of you Jen! Suggest that you write down what worked (maybe in a SP blog) so tthat you and reference it again when you prepare for the next holiday event. emoticon

I had a plan. I cooked only healthy food with plenty of veggie options. Then I got upset and started eating everything in sight after everyone left. Still in a funk today. Hoping to turn off the negative internal dialog tonight so that I can start fresh tomorrow. Focusing on eating protien, as it is usually my binge craving buster.

I've posted the Week 4 Challenge Bonus Instructions. Gonna get a boost in my weight loss with a nap.

I did so good, this was the first holiday that I did not indulge myself. It was difficult to watch everyone else eat without having to think about it. However, so proud that I stuck to my plan.

Today, I am determined to eat based off of the appropriate nutritional numbers regardless of my emotions. I am typically an emotional eater and need to find something to replace that.

Howdy team!
Unexpected trip over next couple of days. Helping my sis-in-law move. Got the eggs colored tonight with the 3 grandgirls. Miracle that we did not ruin home or clothes. I am nowhere near ready to host Easter on Sunday. The rest will have to wait until Saturday.

Looks like the team is having some success. Share with us what is working.
