GIna,

I really appreciate your friendship and you responding to my blogs, as it helps to get feedback from all who will care to venture into that part of SP.

I'm so sorry that happened to you, because of smoking. My mom smoked for 50 years before she finally quit, but it was too late for her, as she was diagnosed with COPD among other things and she passed away within 2 years! I was glad when she passed, as she had no more pain!

Be blessed,

Nancy Jean that is an excellent BP. Wish mine was as good but my upper number will not ever be too good as I have an aortic stenosis which is the aorta is not as wide as it should be to carry oxygenated blood away from the heart and my heart always has to work a little extra hard to do its job. That being said, I think it is payback for smoking for 25 yrs. and smokers should pay attention to that. Love your blogs and I am so impressed with the weight loss you have accomplished. You are a good friend to have on one's side.

my bp was very low, but I feel just great. 82/50. That was a couple hours ago. Now it's 68/43 with 43 bpm after a .3 mile walk. Will have to check the bp more often today.

I seem to be one of those people who may have to live with high blood pressure readings. I have cut my sodium intake for years and since starting Sparkpeople, I watch it even more from other sources. I have been eating healthy and even more so now. I have lost weight and made lifestyle changes...yet my bp is still 200/100 something with 3 meds just for it. emoticon

I have had an EKG...it was normal. I have had sleep test...I have sleep apnea. I will be taking a stress test next month and the doctor is now doing lab work for other things including thyroid testing. They are trying to find the cause since I am a stroke survivor. But we are all concerned with my bp still not being controlled emoticon

Stella,

HBP is controllable. In fact with the lifestyle change, and the package that comes with that, it will decrease to where it should be. I'm living proof, as my doctor, has just started cutting back on my BP medication. I'm just trilled to LIFE that I'm getting off of more medication!!! If I'm able to help you in any way, just HOLLER, and I'll do what I can!

I take meds for my BP as well. The strange thing has always been that the top # (systolic) has always been high and the bottom # is always below 80 (diastolic). Not too long ago a student nurse practicioner found that I had a serious heart murmur. When the powers that be had to take it seriously they found that the connection where the blood leaves my heart and enters the aorta is defective. This can easily be the reason for the large number on top as the heart has to work harder to push the blood out. I still take meds but it is interesting to know why. This is fixable if it ever gets more serious. The question is did the high BP cause the problem or did the problem cause the high BP. This seems to be a familial condition as well.

There is a percentage of people with high blood pressure that medication cannot control 100%. Even though we've lost weight, quit smoking and control our sodium intake. You are fortunate not to have rogue blood pressure. God Bless

Just a heads up to people that depend on blood pressure readings to manage their meds. I went to a neurologist for several months and each visit my blood pressure was within normal range. The nurse listened with a cuff and telescope so you would think the readings were legit. Each time it was taken I would ask if they were sure, because they haven't found the mixture of m my bp to 120/80 yet. I was reassured electronic bp machines ran a little higher. With all the normal readings I got I went off my meds and the next two readings in 8 weeks were also normal. This past week I went to my regular doctor to double check. My bp was 188/121. Needless to say, even though the Dr was not treating me for high blood pressure, people living with hypertension depend on accurate bp readings to manage and act accordingly. Don't get taken in by a false sense of security. The goal is keeping hypertension and high blood pressure in check with knowledgeable and accurate management, not window decoration posing as management.
