From soulseeds affirmations

Affirming YOUR life on Sat July 30

Let go of showing the world who you think you should be. There is no room for “shoulds” in a liberated life. Let go of all expectations, because right now, in this very moment you are enough. You are well enough, strong enough, courageous enough. Just be fully yourself and fully authentic in this moment.

FROM NIGHTINGALE.COM

"Perhaps the very best question that you can memorize
and repeat, over and over, is, 'what is the most
valuable use of my time right now?'"

— Brian Tracy: Author and speaker on personal and professional development

"What is the most valuable use of my time right now?" What if that one question were asked — by EVERYONE — every hour of every day. And they answered. Then, the unemployment rate would be near zero. Nobody would go hungry. Children would bond with their parents. Businesses would be triple in production. Married couples would stay married. Obesity and disease would all but vanish. People would laugh, love, and live more than ever before. All because they asked a simple question…

Make yourself the priority. Have fun with it. It won't work if it's dreaded, demanded and tiresome. What do you really like to do? What do you really like to eat? There ARE choices that you like...vegetables, fruits and healthy meat. What can you still do? Do it. Be blessed!

Hmmmm got me thinking on that one ‘cauz it is true for me too. On exercise, it makes me tired and I only have a little energy…so I don’t want to use it getting tired. My solution is to only do a little at a time in the hopes I can slowly build up to more. On weight I think it is rather complex. For me there are some control issues of sorts. I know food will lift my energy and mood…so I eat. One is a petulant “I control my body thing so if I want to eat I will!!!!” Not sure I am in control, but it feels like it at the time. Another is also a petulant, Awww common, it won’t matter…eat. Also, there is an out of control thing when I smell sweets that manifests as a small brain frenzy to get the sugar. So I am looking at it as a management thing and this site is helping. Not the first go round, but this time it is. I like to eat at night so I plan for a piece of toast. I know I go nuts at 4pm so I am planning for it. I am not hungry in the morning so I am planning for it. I am replacing some foods with others. If this works I can make small changes to the plan. I am managing myself like I am a good friend who needs support. I do need help with this and this site is really helping retrain my mind. I have been persistent with this diet thing…always returning to a food plan, but this time I am managing it…managing my challenge areas and matching my strengths to help my weaknesses. Admitting, without berating myself, that I actually do have areas of challenge is helping. Like in elementary school, when we sometimes pair a stronger student with one who needs help. I am both these aspects and so far self-management is working. Very slowly, but it is working.

Carol, I spent years worrying about weight loss, now my goal is health, if I gain a little I don't worry or go off program, if I go off program I don't worry and just get back on, if I lose weight or exercise I rejoice!!

If you're tracking your sodium intake, and it's too high, just remember: you can't log your tweaks. Ex.: I rinse my garbanzo beans for my salad, but there isn't nutrition info for "rinsed chic peas." Also, I make my own salsa so I know that there is no way near as much sodium as the chart is showing. Don't get too hung up on numbers as long as you know you're doing what you should!

Smile... I'm trying to be happy again. I can't believe that I have high blood pressure. The doctor said I am not over weight. I like hearing that since I've worked hard at exercising & trying to eat right. I had a stressful year. My mother was the one with high blood pressure. She had a stroke 5 years ago. She had a tough life this pass year. She broke her hip. Moved from her apartment to assistance living. She also had a heart condition & Parkinson's. She seem to be adjusting until April when she fell & hit her head. Found out she had lung cancer & not long to live. My mom was not a smoker. She passed away June 15th. Now I need to get myself healthy & happy.... emoticon

Yeah! I managed to avoid caffeine, except for 2 sips of vending machine coffee that tasted like dishwashing water.

other than that:
a regular glum weekend day at work.
I'm starting to get worried about some unusual symptoms I've had for a few weeks - involves pain
like did my skull crack ?
did i get a concussion - does my brain really feel bruised?
did i have a stroke ?
is it extreme high blood pressure come back ?
severe withdrawal symptoms from caffeine addiction and caffeine poisoning?

if it goes on another week - i'll have to go see a dr.

I'm always too exhausted these days to blog much - but i have dozens of blogs in me to write up - i have to remind myself to keep things simple.

I'm reading an interesting book by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. "Eat to Live". He speaks a lot of micronutrients, phytonutrients, etc...in nutrient dense foods and how it can solve a lot of health problems to eat a mostly plant-based diet.

I use to take Potassium when I was on a water pill, but had to stop taking it cause insurance didn't cover it and it got to costly. I didn't notice any change in my pressure. I didn't take the water pill all the time only when I had swollen feet or hands from being on my feet all day. I don't take water pill now because my new PCP felt I didn't need it. She has not told me to take potassium either.

I used to take it but don't anymore. That was before I had a stroke although I don't think they are related. I take a multivitamin though and eat foods with potassium in them.

I don't take potassium alone, but do take an once-a-day type vitamin-mineral supplement geared toward my age.I would love to be able to quit my BP meds but I had high blood pressure before I was old, fat and out of shape. I have cut way back on my rescue inhaler though. I was taking it every couple of hours and now I might use it once or twice a week. I do take a steroid inhaler in the a.m. and p.m. With my improved diet and exercise I hope I can quit cholesterol meds but that too was a problem before the big 3-old, fat and out of shape.

Does anyone take Potassium? A couple of months ago my Doctor put me on it because it was running so low and on average my BP has dropped 3 points since then. Anyone else notice this?

I finally learned that every little bit counts. Even just a 10 minute walk, or what ever you can do. I know I am a lot healthier than I was 5 or even 10 years ago. Keep up the great work.

My Pressure is doing some better, But I was so happy yesterday I walked 65 minutes shopping, and no problem and very little pain. I did it, I can not even tell everyone how happy I was. I really didn't think every thing I was doing was helping at all, maybe I was wrong.

I've been on Lisinopril HCL for quite a few years and it keeps it under pretty good control. However, I think that losing weight and being more active will help too.

I am very encouraged by the success you all have had in lowering your blood pressure through diet and exercise. I am on 3 blood pressure medications....lisinopril/hctz, metoprolol, and....shoot...can't remember the other. I lost 65 pounds in 2009, but my BP never dropped. I do think it made it more manageable. What I will say is that I didn't focus on lowering my sodium or sugar intake at all and I think that if I can do that maybe I can go off of something eventually. My top number has lowered about 7 points since I started watching my sodium. So good, I just hope I can find a way to bring down the bottom number as well. Thanks for the encouraging posts!

Good ole Lisinipril. I took it for about 15 years, but at 40mg until one day, it gave me an allergic reaction and my tongue swelled up, and scare the life out of me. Then I was taken off and put on various 'old school' b/p meds. Now I am looking forward to getting off all of them for good! Good job Georgine!

I have been taking one 20 mg Lisinopril for ages now. thought about asking if I need to keep taking it but decided to get to goal wait and see where I am. I think I posted earlier that I had 2 readings in the low 90s and low 50s and had a little feeling of dizziness when i got up but only once. they told me under 90 or under 50 is too low so i will wait and see. have a good day, Georgine

A few months ago my doctor lowered the amount of blood pressure meds I take. And the best news is since breaking my toe a week and a half ago my steps are back to my goal levels! 12,629 yesterday emoticon
