I am currently on Losartan/HCTZ and Atenolol. Lisinopril worked well for a while and then quit working. Also gave me a cough. Moved on to Losartan which worked for while, then quit. Upped to Losartan combo for a while, then it quit working. Moved to Atenolol, then up to Atenolol/Chloretal combo. Had bad symptons with that and am now back to the plain atenolol while awaiting results of new blood work. It seems that the drugs work fine on me for a few months and then stop.

One thing I will mention that I learned from the pharmacist. Atenolol affects the heart, slowing the heart beat and making any exertion difficult. It should be taken in the evening before bedtime so that the patient can rest and not exert himself/herself. She recommended that I take the Losartan in the morning and the Atenolol at night so that everything would not hit my system at the same time.

One day at a time; one pound at a time.

I know everybody's different, but I'm having good results from atenolol. I actually suggested it to my doctor, because my dad takes it and it works well for him. So he put me on atenolol and my blood pressure is much lower. I'm getting readings under 130/70, which I've never had before. That's after lisinopril, diovan, verapamil, and labetolol didn't do much for me.

7days and still not adjusting to it.

Woke up late today, and I still feel the sting of the pain.
But I brushed my teeth anyway, got dressed through the mess and put a smile on my face.
I got a little bit stronger.

I just joined SparkTeam yesterday. I've found good info very fast. I take Losartan/HCTV in place of DiovanHCTV. I have always had issues with being jittery inside as if I need to eat. So I do eat proteins if needed. I also eat bananas more often for potassium. I am going to speak with my heart doctor for his opinion on these side effects. I am considered pre diabetic.

This is such a great forum. It is great to hear what others may be going through with their health issues and meds.

I have taken Losartan for about a year and have not had any side effects. In addition to HBP I have CKD and Losartan has protective benefits for the kidneys. Ace inhibitors also protect the kidneys however I can not use them due to a cough.

We are all different and any side effects should be brought to the attention of your doctor.

Also, Losartan is the generic form of Cozaar and is covered under most insurance policies.

I have had success with the ARB class of BP medicines. They work for me, where the Calcium and Beta blockers did not. Because the are not yet generic, I have to take the Linsinopril, and Norvasc as I pay out of pocket for my meds. Different classes of blood pressure meds work with different cultural/ethnic backgrounds. Because the majority of my "make-up" is African-American, the ARB's affect my BP the best. Ask your doctor about those drugs which worked best for you in the past and maybe switching you to a newer one in that class if he/she wants a tighter control. All the best to you!

The first step is always the hardest.
Stop thinking about it and just do it.

I told my doctor about the problems I had with losartan and he took me off of it. Apparently that class of drug just doesn't agree with me. Maybe that's the case with you, too? Good luck.

I just started taking Losartan and Amlodipine because my insurance would rather pay for two medications instead of the EXFORGE that I was doing really well on. GRRRRRRR! I take mine at bedtime, so started them last night. I have been in a really crappy mood today, been running to the bathroom way too often. I wonder if these are side affects.emoticon

I was taking lisinopril for about a year, but my doctor recently switched me to losartan. I don't think it agrees with me. I'm tired much of the time, very sluggish and weary, and I seem to get depressed easily, which is not like me. Also, I'm having very freaky and disturbing dreams.

Before the lisinopril, I was taking Diovan for a while, and that really gave me problems -- bad night sweats and anxiety. I understand that losartan and Diovan are the same type of drug, what they call angiotensin receptor blockers, so I wonder if just can't take ARBs. I never had a problem with the lisinopril, which is a different type of drug.

Anyway, I just wondered if anyone had a similar experience with the losartan.
