I am not exactly knowing about that, but I heard some of the people have faced this problem. If the hair loss is more than better to consult the doctor as early as possible.

I had hbp for a few years before I finally succumbed to medication July 2012, because of having a TIA, which really scared me. Don't want to have a stroke! At that time I started Lisinopril 10 mg daily. I went on vacation right after that and had a bp crisis with a reading up to 220/110. In the ER they increased me to twice a day and back home to 20mg twice a day. That worked for a while, then another sky high spell, when I was changed to Lisinopril 20 mg with Hydrochlorathiazide 12.5 mg once a day. That was working great until vacation the last week of June this year, when I had more symptoms of TIA. I was in Utah at a much higher elevation than I am used to and at much lower humidity, and I was busy having fun and not drinking my water. I went through an ordeal in the ER there with nausea, vomiting and a splitting headache. When I returned to home after a day, my bp was down to normal and I felt great. I must do what I know I should, eat right (low or no sugar, 8 glasses of water a day, take my bp med, relax and pray). I am learning gradually what it takes for my particular body, mind and spirit. Long story and the question wasn't even answered. No I haven't experienced hair loss because of the Lisinopril, only because of old age. I have not had the cough sometimes associated with this med.

This is the day that the Lord has made. Rejoice and be glad in it!

I've been on 5mg of Lisinopril for almost a year now, along with adderall and ortho tri cyclen. My hair has been thinning a lot near my part lines, also feels brittle and breaking around the crown, like someone else here mentioned. Not sure if it's due to medication, stress or hereditary as my dad balded early and my mother has very thin hair. I'm 24 and don't want to go bald! Should I go to my general doctor or look into seeing a dermatologist who specializes in hair loss?

I have been on Lisinopril for about a year and a half now. I have noticed losing a lot of hair off and on while taking a shower and now my eyebrows are thinning. I have been taking 20 mg. I tried going off for a couple of weeks and my blood pressure went up to 142/95. After a week of taking it it went back down to 120's/80's. The thinning eyebrows are kind of freaking me out. I've never been tested for a thyroid problem but maybe I should.

I take Lisinopril/HCTZ 20mg/12.5mg - and I have not noticed any hairloss. BUT, when I started taking thyroid medication, I began to notice hairloss then.

Interesting discussion...I am also on Lisinopril and have noticed my hair has become very brittle (bunches of it breaking off at my crown) and I have spots where it has broken off so badly that I almost have "bald patches." I thought it might be my thyroid, as I am also hypothyroid, but have been on meds for that for 10 years. The b/p med is new this past year....Guess I need to check into this. I also have noticed the cough and didn't realize that might also be a side effect...Thanks for the info!

I have been on an ACE inhibitor but got off b/c of cough. But now I take Cartia and have noticed more hairloss but have had thin hair for years- also heredity- could it be age related to 50+ meaning- hormone related?

I have been on lisinopril for at least 5 years. I haven't noticed balding. I do have a cough sometimes, never thought about that med causing that. I have another symptom that I have suspected from lisinopril. Both of my forearms looked flushed, like I have have a slight sunburn, and it never goes away, even now in the dead of winter when my arms are never exposed to the sun. I never noticed it before I started taking this pill. I mentioned it to my doctor, and she said nothing at all.

I just got on bp meds. I have been having bad spells of dizziness for about 6 mos. now, and started taking my bp here at home. It was very high on the systolic part, but ok in the other, so I didn't know what to do. Then it got high on both parts and I went to the hosp. to get it checked out and they put me on my meds. I don't have ins. so I don't know what will happen when this prescription runs out. I guess I will have to go back to the hosp for it to be renewed. I am over weight and am trying to lose, but don't want to exersise till I get the bp under control. I get bad headaches all the time with it and get spots in my eyes when I do too much. It is a shame to be poor.

Oh no....I take my 10 mg every day but when I was 240lbs my pressure was a little high so doc wanted to increase me to 20 mg...and I protested....so doc said to take 1/2 every other in addition to my 10mg because I knew I was going to be making som major health changes....so now I'm off the 1/2 pill every other day and pressure is good but my goal is to try to get off but like I said I would never do it without doc approval. I was in the medical field for over 20 years and know that meds are good but should only be used temporarily if possible...the problem needs to be fixed usually proper nutrition/supplementation will fix most things. I was able to get off 3 other meds but this med is just a little harder. I am also working with the nutritionist to help me get my calcium/magnesium adjusted because that is another part of getting blood pressure under control as well. My hubby and I have been on good supplementation for years and we could never be without it now we feel so much better!!!! have so much energy and know we are giving our bodies what it needs everyday! If you don't get all your nutrients then you get nutritinal deficiency disease (osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes, etc) so it's so very important!

Sorry...got side tracked...no I don't hit and miss..blood pressure isn't something you can hit and miss with.

CHERUB..are you doing the sporadic pill taking with the blessing of your doctor, or just on your own? That sounds a bit risky to me. I may be on medication for the rest of my life..since I'm tolerating it, I dont care..if that is what it takes to make sure I have controlled blood pressure.

My system doesn't tolerate Lisinopril, but I do have hair thinning which began many years before I had BP issues. I have an extremely delicate system when it comes to meds! I take Tekturna and have no problems with it.

I took Lisinopril at first too, but now I am on Metoprolol Tartrate 25 mg. 2x' a day. IT doesn't make me cough like Lisinopril did. You shouldn't get off any meds unless your Dr. knows about it and he can get you off at a slow pace. It is very harmful to stop "cold turkey". Your body is used to the meds. doing their job, and if you stop it all of a sudden, it will mess up your system. Make sure you check with your Dr. FIRST.

Thank you everyone for all the information. I was taken off of it once when my pressure dropped low enough but then I gained weight and I had some stressful times and my doc put me on 10 mgs. It made me very dizzy when I stood up so she cut me back to 5 mgs. for the past year. Thanks again everyone!

I have been on 10mg of lisinopril for about 20 years and haven't noticed any hairloss but do experience the cough sometimes.

I have lost 2 lbs since Sept. at which time I was taking a ill and a half because my pressure was 140/100 and pulse was 100...now I have been able to drop the 1/2 a pill and my pressure averages 114/82 with pulse 58. I walk on my elliptical everyday for 30 mins and have just lately been able to increase the intensity. I try to take sundays off to give myself a break but I am trying to break a plateau right now so I will do it today...plus I just feel so go after I am done.

My question? has anyone ever got off of their blood pressure medication?? I know I am running good numbers but anything over 80 I still take my pill because blood pressure is a serious silent killer and I don't want to just stop cold turkey especially since I've been on it so long. I also have a reactive emotions when there is stress and I am afraid that it will pop up without me even knowing it.
My husband and I have been taking really good supplements for about 5 years now...and I'e been abl to get off 3 other meds and my husbands hypoglycemia is under control. I can't even begin to tell you how much better we feel and the energy we have. I have been able to work with the doctor of the nutrients to get my calcium/magnesium in blaance and that has helped tremendously with the blood pressure issues as well....so think I see light at the end of the tunne to being able to get off but we will just take it a day at a time. Having numbers in the normal range is a blessing in itself.

Today I will remember: Don't borrow from tomorrow

I've been on Lisinopril for about a year but took Lisinopril/Htz for the previous three or four years. Any hair loss I have had started before I began taking blood pressure medicine. I have been on Synthroid for the past twenty years. My hair loss may be due to the Synthroid, but I thinks my "shedding" is more due to the fact that hair loss is genetically inherent in my family. Any family history of baldness?

No, the hair loss I suffered was not in clumps but more gradual. It started thinning on top and the lustre was gone. Bp med is the only med that I am taking.

This is interesting. I took it and had the cough. So we switched meds. My son, 17, is now taking it and is loosing hair. Thanks for sharing so I can look into it.
He is under a lot of stress, and I have wondered about that.
My husband didn't loose hair until after 30, my dad and brother still have their hair, so I don't think it is a family thing. It has been just the last 6 monthes or so that he has been on it.
My daughter does loose hair when she gets stressed. But it never hurts to try to get it changed.

High blood pressure runs in my family. Me and my mom both suffer hair loss and brusing after sustatined doses of HBP meds. My son who is 8 takes Lisinopril and has not had any. I think it depends on the individual.

Hi All,
I too am taking Lisinopril 20 mg and lately have had increased hair loss, geez I will have to check this out. The dry hacking cough is symptomatic for any Ace Inhibitor I believe. Maybe and ARB might work better. Gretta

I have hair loss too and thought it might be due to my thyroid problem , but now I'm beginning to wonder. I've been on lisinopril for several years and my hair loss has been increasing. Most of my life I've been quite hairy but now have very little on my legs etc. - no tears about that, of course! - but recently even my eyebrows are getting thin.

Hello I'm Rainney, I have been on Lisinopril for about 2 years and I am noticing bald spots on the top right had side of my head. My hair dresser told me it may be my b/p pill. I don't have a Dr. appt. for about a month and I am worried. I can't imagine having bald spots.
