good morning!

my dog got skunked this morning, so at 5:30 hubby is waking me up to give the dog a bath. he found a great recipe for shampoo - hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dish soap. works great. yay google!

Good job on the cleaning, ladies! Today was a relaxing day for me - gym session in the afternoon but aside from that my day was spent chilling out.

Today was the second day I ate within my caloric range. emoticon

Next step - do the same thing tomorrow. :) I've got my grocery list for the rest of the week and food planned for tomorrow's dinner, just gotta keep breakfast and lunch in line and I'll be laughing!

Yeah! I got a ton of cleaning done, and made two really awesome meals so far (omelettes and home fries for the kid for breakfast and taquitos from almost-scratch (locally-made corn tortillas) for lunch.) I am planning on doing my own pesto for dinner. I might use mine as a salad dressing or something since I'm pretty much avoiding pasta, even this higher-fiber kind. But giving it up will be a hard sell for the teenager; I have a feeling he needs the carbs to exist. He's gigantic, and clearly has a very fast metabolism.

I haven't gotten many steps in, but we've just been hanging out and it was a horribly rainy day, so maybe rest isn't the worst thing. Maybe I'll hula hoop a bit! emoticon

Don't be too jealous-- I've been unemployed since March and this is just a part-time gig, mostly for the membership; I make less than my teenager makes at his ice cream shop! Never mind that he gets tips too! Heh.

It's cool, though. I don't hate it. And I've really seen some major fitness gains since I started a few months ago. I wasn't going to a gym at all, just to yoga and trying to do some 5K training and a lot of fun fitness. I am excited for the winter, most of all.

Now you can be a little jealous: there's a sauna and a pool.

I think the personal training session or two is a great idea! They can also write you up a routine for you (I had a free session when I joined my old gym and just loved the routine that the trainer set me up with - great muscle gains when I was stalling out).

And you work at a gym? That's awesome! I admit that I am a little jealous.

Sorry about your injuries and taking a while to heal up!

I have actually never been fit even though I dropped like 70 pounds before... I gained 30 of that back and have almost lost it again. I expect to get lower than my lowest, unless I look great and muscular at a higher weight emoticon

I am super used to working out, but have just started lifting heavier weights, so yeah, while I'm gaining a little strength for now, I will switch to free weights at some point. I'll have to pay for a personal training session or two, I think (unless they teach you good form at Body Pump? I'm not sure). But I work at a gym so it's half price, at least. Probably my whole paycheck for the week, but that's OK... I'm in it for the membership anyway.

That is the *only* way we cook steak around here - best way to do it, ever!

I use free weights for most things, exercises like pulldowns or leg press being exceptions. I don't like the restriction that machines put on my movement and to be really honest, lifting heavy free weights is a major rush! :) I'm also not new to working out so I'm very familiar with proper technique which is a must if you're lifting - a little background:

I've experienced some (a lot) of regain after losing over 100 pounds and then injuring myself twice in a 6 month period. Those injuries hindered my ability to workout while they were healing and my clean eating habits slowly got worse and worse.

Starting tracking and getting in some serious gym time reminds me of how good I felt at a lower weight!

I think I will be within range, but I totally blew my self-imposed carb limit. That's OK; all about balance through the week.

Making roasted brussels sprouts with red potato and onion, and I'm going to TRY to do a piece of the steak like my chef friend taught me... started in a MF'in HOT cast iron with just salt and pepper on it, and then finished in the oven.

We'll see!

I had a great upper body strength training session at the gym today - was hoping to get some cardio in afterwards but I was beat. Tomorrow it's legs and cardio!

Hello, hello!

I just got back from grocery shopping. Got some really good deals so I am excited about that! (Including $4/lb OFF happy humanely raised steak! I am not very good at cooking beef without a boyfriend and a grill, but I am going to give it another shot! Or maybe I'll bring it to the boyfriend's with the grill, heh.)

Eating hasn't been so great today; OK for calories, but way high on carbs. I made a double smoothie for the kiddo this morning and he didn't want the second half, so I had that, and I don't usually use flavored yogurt or agave in my own... it was pretty caloric and carby!

Then he got a pizza for lunch so I had a slice of that. I guess it could be worse but my veg intake is definitely low! I'm thinking roasted veggies for dinner with some of that steak or a chicken breast... or maybe a big huge salad with canned fish on it. That's my "go-to."

He is awake, will squeeze your hand, open his eyes and wiggle his toes but not much else. He's been like that for 3 days now, We are pretty worried. One good thing - his heart and lungs are doing well and the bowel resection is looking good as well.

hey ladies!

I've been busy spending time at the hospital and helping my MIL with things like balancing the checkbook. Today hubby and I spent the afternoon cleaning out the family room to get ready for some renovations.

my eating and exercise habits have gone down the tubes. I'm up 6 lbs from my start of the 5% challenge 5 weeks ago. emoticon It is TOM so maybe (hopefully) that has something to do with part of it at least. Too much eating out and hospital cafeteria food.

I do different loops... sometimes by the river, sometimes down new streets to check out the Victorians... sometimes up to these mini-woods.

Tonight I think I'll walk to the mall and see how Target's organic selection is, and have a spin around Marshall's just in case they have something I need emoticon

I did two loops to count the number of steps:

Around my block (565), and up the hill and through the mini woods to the tippy top and back (about 1400).

So beautiful out there!
When I switch laundry over I'm going to do the woods one again I think!

I am trying to be super conscious of moving more on weekends because I've been terrible!

Good morning!

I've never successfully made anything in a crock pot. I think mine cooks too high or something. So I gave up!

I am definitely not interested in paying for meal ideas, but it does look like it would be worth it for anyone who isn't sure how to meal plan or shop or is really bored with their usuals!

Did a nice sprint interval walk by the river after work yesterday, catching the last of the sun and our unseasonably beautiful day! Then it was arms day on the machines. Today I am cleaning and doing laundry and other terribly exciting things. I always have a tough time getting my steps in on weekends, so I will try to run around the block every time I head outside or something.

Sadly it's meal plans for four - we're just two here so we always have leftovers (used to take them for lunch the next day but I'd like to move to a salad-based lunch to up my veggie intake and lower my calories).

Crockpot food is delish! My favourite easy crockpot recipe:

Dump into the crockpot:
5 large chicken breasts
1 can of black beans, drained
1 large jar of salsa (I choose a lower-sodium version when possible)
1 1/2 cups of frozen corn

Cook on low for 8 hours (adjust to your slow cooker preferences).

Add in:
1 block of low-fat cream cheese, broken into chunks

Stir until smooth, cover and cook on high for 30 minutes while you cook some brown rice.

And serve! Creamy Mexican Chicken. So quick and easy!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi! I'm new to SparkPeople and this group, and am looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Does anyone here follow The Fresh20 meal plans or have a Spark Activity Tracker? I love the Fresh20 - great meals, good variety, and all very clean! And I was contemplating an Activity Tracker but don't know if it's really worth the $60...

ETA - and apparently I'm still working out the kinks with this weight ticker - it's showing in kilos instead of pounds. Off to see if I can figure this one out! :)

good morning

sorry to be MIA, but it's been pretty intense here. My FIL had his open heart surgery last Wed - the surgery went well but due to a complication where blood flow was diminished to his large intestine, it started dying off. He was rushed into emergency surgery Tues morning to remove 90% of his large intestine. He's been knocked out since Monday night and doesn't even know about it yet. They are going to start waking him up today.

Good luck avoiding all of the horrible tempting fast foods out there, Vannah emoticon

emoticon I am pretty sure the needle dipped below 140 today. FINALLY!!

I must only really have a 350-cal deficit, not a 500+; FitBit is overestimating my calories burned or I'm not measuring right or the labels lie. (I think it's probably a combination). It took me a full 10 days to drop a pound.

Or I'm just the freaky sort of person who loses at half the normal rate. Ah, well, supposedly more likely to stay off!

The show was really good and interesting. Figured I'd get more steps in, dancing, but I don't think the fitbit counts flailing while your feet are still on the floor. Too bad!

I don't understand Big Macs. Why would I want a piece of bread in the middle of my burger? Or ketchup mixed with mayonnaise? (I hate mayo).

Home again, jiggity jig. Only took an hour and a half. Rush hour is fun!

My ex-boyfriend wrote to say he's in town for a show. And my gf canceled. So I'm not sure what I'll end up doing tonight...

Which? I started laying off the grains last week after I watched "FatHead" and read a lot of research... I've always been low in my carb range (nowhere near 200 or 250 grams) and generally higher in my fat, but now I'm trying for 100-125 g carbs and 40-80 of fat.

I was looking at Whole30, but there is no way I am giving up 100% of dairy or all alcohol for a full month emoticon

I am avoiding pretty much all grains, and getting my carbs from vegetables and some fruit. I had some toast this morning but it was sprouted-grain/whole-protein (bible bread!)

Just don't eat Krispy Kreme donuts every day now. That's something I would do...

I have got to stay at like 750 calories or below after lunch, because I know me and evenings, especially when I can't get to the store and buy things! Back to cooking healthy stuff because otherwise....yeah. Mexican food at work today to celebrate the death of Imam Husayn bin Ali. (Yes, our workplace celebrates mostly Islamic holidays.)

Vannah, looks like that cost you somewhere around 600 calories, looking at their nutritionals. Not the end of the world if you're aiming for 1800ish, but that doesn't give you a lot of wiggle room for later, and that sugar crash is going to make you want more. Just move on though- no sense in being upset with yourself! I'm sure they were tasty.

It worked pretty well for me for not smoking, until a huge party where I lost all control emoticon

I am sorry you're struggling so hard. It is very easy to get sucked into that craving cycle. I have been doing pretty well with avoiding it, but have definitely had a few run-ins with the sugar monster! Lately I am finding that the more I avoid sugar and things that turn to sugar in my system (like flour), the less I crave it.

Are you tracking your food? I'd be really curious to see if there was a good reason why you can't stop eating, like that your insulin is going nuts if you're trying to restrict calories by eating a lot of low-fat (low-satiety) foods like frozen pasta dinners and stuff...
