How is everyone doing in the new year so far? Hope things are going well. I'm headed to the doc in about an hour, my elbow and forearm/wrist have been really hurting, even ibuprofen is not helping. I decided it was time to stop putting it off. I hope I don't have carpal tunnel or something

It doesn't make sense. I'm obviously not dehydrated any more, maybe my muscles are freaking out that they are hydrated lol.

Girl time hit me hard last night. Man I feel icky this morning.

Oh that's not good. I don't know why it would cause that. If you have water right before bed maybe stop 30 minutes before?

yes, that makes sense. I am drinking more water, this is good. Not to the amount the app says I should, but a lot better than I was. Some reason drinking more water is causing me to have terrible leg cramps at night though.

I've made flossing a habit for me. I do it daily. What I am working on is trying to eat smaller portions and drinking my water. I downloaded the water reminder app from spark so that it reminds me every couple hours to drink so much water. We will see if it helps me or not. I get busy at work or during the day and just don't think about my water drinking.

We are doing more organizing and cleaning today, trying to finish up what we started during time off before New Years.

Oh dear that does not sound pleasant. I went to the dental hygienist yesterday for a cleaning and as she reminds me I need to floss floss floss. So I did floss last night before going to bed which took a while and is why I don't do it but I do want to take better care of my teeth so I will TRY to floss more.

As per my hygienist's recommendation I packed a few floss picks (the ones shaped like Y) in my bag and I will put some in the guest bathroom and maybe by my night stand so I see them and get that reminder.

Oh I am also trying out a new app called HabitBull. It's supposed to help you build new habits and stop bad habits. So far I just have a set up for drinking 4 cups of water and doing stretches. Today is day 3 for both of those habits. I'm going to add Flossing once a day.

Oh thanks for letting us know!

Happy Belated Christmas to everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Out of my to-do list I got dishes and laundry done and a little sweeping/vacuuming. No cookies as I got sick over the weekend and felt too weak to do any baking. I'll make some for the new year.

Happy Christmas Eve!

hey everyone just a heads up that if you see posts start tomorrow from ChrissyWilson80, that is me, I created a new profile. I only did this to help try to motivate me again, like I'm starting all over and can be accountable again. Trying for a fresh healthy start again. I'm not getting rid of this profile, I've had it a long time. I'm just going to focus on spark more with the new profile.

Christmas isn't about gifts, but about being with the people you love. We give gifts because it's something we enjoy, but we never expect anything in return. We are at a point in life that we can afford to be generous with our family and friends, but it's about more than that. We just want to spend time with those closest to us.

If he is having skin issues, the warm bath probably feels good for him. I'm glad he has a loving home to help get him healthy again. He will be one happy doggie.

I can't believe Christmas is only days away. I'm so bad, I still need to go out and get a few things, I don't have all my stocking stuffers yet.

hahaha that's great.

We officially adopted the dog Saturday. He's OURS now. His name is Yogurt. He's got some skin issues on top of digestion issues so he's taking a lot of pills at the moment and it's always a chore when my husband has to give them to him. Even trying to hide them in food is hard. The easiest part surprisingly is giving him a bath. We need to bathe him every other day with medicated shampoo and he just stands there while we bathe him and towel him off.

LOL. My mums cat, the one that is staying with friends in AZ after she died, he is like that. He won't eat for days unless you buy him the wet gravy food or put some gravy over the dry food. I guess some animals are just picky. My cats are not, they eat whatever, they are little fat monsters. lol

Ah yes good plan and speaking of rates I just read that rates actually are going to go up and apparently they are going to go up 3 times next year?! Ugh.

The dog is a picky eater I don't know how a dog his size can be picky but he is, we had to put a little gravy on his food because he wasn't eating it. The cat went nuts and tried to steal his so then we had to put gravy on her food and I can't deal with these two lol.

I probably won't get another pooch until I own a home again. We only rent our house right now. We've been trying to save and pay down debt so that we can buy in another year or so. The rates will probably go up by then, but we just don't have enough of a down payment yet.

Cats are funny, they always think they are in charge. I have three cats and they love to mess with each other. They come to you, you don't go to them, otherwise they are like nope. All three have totally different personalities as well. Cats are very independent. I haven't had a dog since my dog Abby died in 2010. I miss her :(

I am with you that is colllld.

How was the Christmas Party? I hope you had a good time. Our office Christmas lunch was on Friday and I enjoyed it. My next work's Christmas lunch is this coming Friday and I need to bring a dessert. I'm just going to keep it simple, no time or money for the super fancy stuff.

Oh I finally made it to the gym last Friday and did a tour now hopefully I can get in there soon for some actual exercise.

Oh we got a dog from the shelter for a sleepover over the weekend and we are going to keep him. He's really sweet and quiet and lets our cat boss him around. Don't know if that a good thing we try to encourage him to ignore here lol. He's almost 80 pounds so big dog and she's just tiny cat :P

Happy Saturday ladies. Hope everyone has been staying warm. It's a little warmer here today, made it up to the 40s. But man this is cold for Texas.
Tonight is the company Christmas party. Hopefully it is going to be fun. I've never been to the big boss's house, from what I hear it is a mansion, and worth over 1 million. It's kind of intimidating.

Those are good ideas. Maybe something like printing certificates of achievements for those who reach their 10k steps every day for a week or something. Maybe a small prize for the person with the most steps at the end of the challenge. Just a couple ideas.

The weekend went too quickly as usual. The weather here is very dreary, it rained all day Saturday and some cold temperatures finally found us in Texas. The high today will only be 50.

No worries. I don't go on the computer much on the weekends or vacation either. I was off M-W this week which is why I was MIA. Thanksgiving was good lots of food. My birthday is Sunday and we shall be brunching so I've been holding off on sweets for about two weeks.

I have registered for the pedometer challenge at work and I am team captain again. If anyone has any ideas of how I can get team members motivated and active let me know.

So far I have
Daily Tips to email everyone
and maybe just post when I am planning to do walks and tell people they are welcome to join me
Email benefits of walking/exercise

I have a period tracker on my phone as well. It helps me track my symptoms and cycles for my endo. I sync my fitbit to fitbit.com every day, but it doesn't seem to always sync to spark people, I wonder why.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, sorry while on vacation I haven't been on my computer much.

I downloaded a period tracker and lucky me it has a reminder for taking birth control.

I can also track my
weight
nutrition
exercises
mood
sleep
water
steps
and period related things like (discharge, symptoms).

It's a neat little app and has a lot more features then I expected. I think keeping track of my mood swings will be most helpful but we'll see.

Oh! At work they posted about the upcoming Pedometer Challenge that starts in January so I am going to get a pedometer as the one they gave me last time broke. I'm thinking of printing up a flyer to try and encourage more people in my department to join, there was only 4 of us last time I think and one of the 4 has retired. Our team name was Geeks in Sneaks :D. Love it.

You are off this week right? I hope you are having a good time :D. I think I'm better, I get the occasional cough and sniffle but I think that's more the weather. We walked another dog we are considering yesterday. So we're going to try have him over for a sleepover Dec 1st. Can't do it now because we are house sitting for the rest of the week and then husband has a colonoscopy procedure next week and then dinner with a visiting friend of his family.

The holidays are here and things are busy!

Sorry to hear the dog did not work out for you. I'm also sad to hear you are sick. It's never fun to be sick.

I've been really busy at work this week, catching up and getting ahead before I'm off all week for Thanksgiving next week. Crazy that the holidays are here again...

That is AMAZING you must be so proud of yourself and all the other walkers. emoticon

So this weekend was WORK. I pulled up baseboards and painted and swept, so much sweeping and more sweeping still needs to be done and then at home we had the dog who is quite hyper and not house trained at all (she chewed furniture and one of my sandals and peed everywhere and pooped on the only rug). But the big thing was that we didn't trust her around the cat (she would jump at her) so unfortunately she's not the dog for us. I hope she does get a good home though she's really sweet and good with people and other dogs.

I am currently sore everywhere and fighting a cold/flu thing that I got from my husband. emoticon

I am definitely interested in this keto you speak of. I really need a jump start again and have no idea how to get there right now.

My 60 mile walk over the weekend was a lot of fun. It's hard on the body and a huge challenge but we did it. There were 900 walkers this year, we raised 2.4 million for breast cancer research. We even walked 9-10 miles in the rain on Sunday. I hadn't walked in rain that hard before, that for sure was a challenge with wet socks and shoes.

That does sound wonderful. You're making me want to learn more about it and I might :D. I could do it short term, I actually need to lose 10 more pounds to reach maintenance mode emoticon .

Oh got word today that enough people signed up (22 actually) for the gym special so we got it :D. I can start right away but unfortunately this week and weekend is a busy one so I'm not going to have time emoticon .

We are having a dog sleepover starting tomorrow and then this weekend we'll be sanding and puttying walls in our business location and patching the floor and whatever else needs to be done.

On another note I got Pureology Hydrate shampoo and conditioner and a treatment spray for my hair and started using them today. Hoping these help my hair be more hydrated, it made my scalp feel nice.

You are correct hat high fat needs to be 'good fat' like avocados and nuts. The energy boost on Keto is unlike anything else.
Cholesterol is not an issue, as long as you stick to good fat. If you eat deep fried stuff all the time or vegetable oil, then this will of course not be good.
There are so many resources and YouTube channels on the topic and many with hormone issues find Keto actually helps.
now don't get me wrong, I am by no means an advocate of Keto as a lifestyle unlike some out there, however for me, it gave me the 'restart' and boost to my system it needed. going from loosing 16 lbs in 6 1/2 months to loosing 12 lbs in 10 week was amazing. I have even kept it off, and down another 5 lbs since coming off this diet. I find eating too many carbs hard so it also gave my mind a reset as well :)

I couldn't do keto I just love carbs but the high energy side effect sounds great.

I think how the amount of fat your consuming affects your cholesterol would depend on the kind of fats? If you are eating more good fat like nuts, avocados and coconut as opposed to fried everything and dairy maybe your cholesterol wouldn't be affected as negatively? I have no idea.

How is the season treating all of you? It's still sunny here and warm but we have a nice cooling breeze and I hope it stays for the rest of the year. I signed up for a gym last week because there was a special for civil servants but no word yet if enough people signed up (needed at least 20).

Seems like that much fat would cause the cholesterol to go up? Why does it require that much fat? I'd love to drop 12 in 10 weeks, that's amazing. Having PCOS makes things a bit more difficult because of the hormone issues.

Great idea about trying to follow the diabetes plan. May try that if I need another 'jump' start.

Keto diet was hard the first few week but luckily I love avocados and bacon but found eating 70% fat hard at times. Used coconut oil in my morning shakes, and after I found a great recipe for chocolate fat bombs, it became much easier. I lost just over 12 lbs. in just 10 weeks which was great, considering it took me over 6 months to loose 16 lbs. Most importantly my energy level was so high on this diet so I took this time to get back to the gym and I have continued since cycling off this diet. Despite all of these positives, the diet is very restrictive and for me, definitely not a long term way of eating.

So that I would have less carbs through spark, I put to follow the diabetes food plan, even though I do not have diabetes. I wanted to see how the ratio changes. If I want to break it down by macros, I log my food on myfitnesspal, it gives me more break down.

How did the keto diet work for you?

Question regarding macro nutrient ratios.
I just completed 10 weeks of keto diet where you eat 70% fat, 20% protein and no more than 10% carb (mostly from green veggies) - side note, not a believer of 'diets' and went into this knowing it was temporary.
I liked the diet as it gave me energy and the 'reset' I was looking for. I am now back to eating a rounded, healthy eating plan, and now eating 30% fat, 30% protein and 40% carb.
My question to all of you: are you following the nutrient ratios suggested by SP which is 30% fat, 20% protein and 50% crab? Are you following different nutrient ratios and what works for you?

They say if when you meet someone, if you say their name at least three times while you talk to them, you are more likely to remember their name next time you see them. Just a little tip I've heard. Being shy can make it hard, but you will find with your sweet demeanor and gaining confidence that people will naturally be attracted to you to talk.

We had it for almost a week lol. It's warm here again too and we lost power for a couple hours this morning so woke up hot and had a cold-ish shower. It wasn't too bad for me especially since the power came on while I was in the shower but husband had gone first and he's more sensitive to cold lol.

Went to a wine tasting last night for the first time in months, I practised my social skills a little. We're opening a business so I'm trying to get better at interacting with people and remembering names which is not easy for someone who is shy AND an introvert but came across two people that go to the library I work at on Saturdays lol. There is a business after hours event tonight wish me luck!

Our normal dress code at work is corporate casual, meaning slacks or dresses, etc, but not suits. For the summer they allowed us to wear jeans/shorts and sandals/tennis shoes every day if we donated to one of the charities they gave us an option to. They payroll deducted it and we got a thing to hang in our cube to say we donated. I donated all the months, so I got to dress down May 1 - Oct 1. It was nice. Back to dresses and heels this week though, it's taking some adjusting again.

I've been kind of down in the dumps, with mum's 1 year approaching. I miss her so much. My sister and I are flying to AZ for the weekend before that day and we are going to plant some pretty trees in the yard of the house she left to us.

@Almisse – GNC is expensive which is probably why I haven’t replaced my bottle yet. I can’t really do much online shopping as things take longer to get her and they have to go through customs but I believe the supermarket sells nature made supplements. I prefer getting nutrients from food too, your body knows what to do with food.

@Christine – For hydration, maybe you can try fruit infused water or ice tea. Also, you are doing a lot better than me on the exercise. I walked a 5k on Sunday and I was supposed to go swimming today but we’re down to one car so couldn’t go this morning. I hope that I can go next week. Is it just a change cause summer is over or is the dress code changed? I would not be happy if I had to wear dress shoes, I like my sneakers.

@Katrick – Ooh guy friend? I’ve been mia as well. Sorry peeps just been so busy. Currently opening a new business and we’re running out of time and still so much left to do and I don’t handle stress well and even husband was showing signs of stress last night.

Yeah, it's important to keep hydrated, but I know some people think they need to drink two gallons a day or something like that, and it makes me wonder how they find that much time to pee. lol

Keeping at it even if you get off track is what's important. Consistency can be difficult, but if you keep going right back to it when you're thrown off track you get used to doing it. I had no luck getting on track with workouts for the longest time, once I actually got into a routine and stuck to it, eventually it became more of a habit. Three times a week is perfectly fine, especially if you're working with weights, because your muscles need recovery time too. But even if you do once or twice on certain weeks, your mind is still getting into the right mindset. :)

Highest: 178lbs Current: 130-145lbs (Depends)
Goal: Bulk, cut, repeat until desired level of muscle is built. Then maintenance.

I agree with the water thing, but I do need to drink more, I know I am not hydrated enough lately. My skin is bad again, among other ways I know. I'm working on it though. :)

I'm trying to get into a routine for exercise again, but man it's hard. I've made 3 workouts this week and some walking in the evenings so far. That's about it though. I just need to keep telling myself not to give up.

@Sparrow - Thanks for all the info! :) I'd rather get nutrients from food when possible, partially because of the better absorption, but largely because of how unregulated and expensive supps can be. GNC is pretty inflated with their prices. Their "sale" prices are the normal prices I usually see online. lol.

@Chrimson - I thought most people understood it's rude to make comments like that? Sorry you've had to deal with that. :(

If you want more recipe ideas, I love using fatsecret. They let you sort by different calories ranges, and dietary needs (low carb, high protein, etc).

Don't worry so much about the water thing. Most hydration studies that are used to make the "gallon a day" or "8 glasses" guidelines were funded by companies like Gatorade. Not to mention you can actually over-hydrate too. If you drink when your body tells you you're thirsty, you're fine.

It may also be causing the appetite issues. It may not seem like much because it's liquid, but it's still sitting in your stomach, which leaves less room for anything else.

Gotta scroll down a bit, I found out through a show, and there's usually a few topics covered per episode. I love that they have their sources listed though.

I did bring my lunch today and plan to get on the treadmill at lunch again. My coworkers and I are starting with every other day to work our way up again and so we do not get too sore.

I'm not sure why my appetite sucks most of the time, and a lot of foods I used to love, I don't think they taste good any more. I'm still struggling with drinking enough water, but it's getting better.

Do you have the SparkPeople app on your phone? It sends me reminders to track breakfast lunch and dinner so that could be a way to remind you to eat? Bringing in lunch is a good idea, maybe working out at lunch will help your appetite.

Thanks I can use all the recipe ideas I can get. This week went ok, not as great as I hoped, bu progress right? My problem is I am usually not hungry and actually forget to eat a lot of the time, which I know is not good for me either. I'm going to start working out with my coworkers on my lunch break on Monday, so I will need to bring my healthy lunch since I will be eating at my desk, since I will be using my breaks for exercise.

You're welcome and you can do it :D.

Some quick suggestions to make on the day if you forget to plan ahead - sandwiches, wraps, salads and for these three you can overlap ingredients - tomato, greens (lettuce, kale, spinach), onion, bell pepper, avocado, corn, beans, shredded chicken, deli or carved turkey, ham, bacon, canned tuna/salmon/crab, shrimp, chickpeas

Something you can make big batch ahead of time and freeze - soups

I haven't tried any of these so can't vouch for how quick they actually are and how healthy.

Ooh thanks I'll check it out!

Oh meal planning, the husband and I are always saying we're going to meal plan or that we should meal plan and we never do it. I've gotten as far as coming up with menus for the week but didn't continue on to grocery shopping and actually you know prepping so I have no tested pointers.

All I can say is pick dishes that have similar ingredients and not a meal that uses an unusual ingredient that you would have to go out and buy just for this one dish.

Pick dishes that can be done in a slow cooker, are freezable, or are quick to do and don't involve using lots of pots and pans.

I like using foodblogsearch.com/ as it searches through different food blogs for recipes.

The one I bought is Drybar - triple sec. I just bought a travel size to try it out, it's working pretty well so far. I'm only at every other day so far on washing my hair, but the goal is to learn to wash it only 2-3 times a week if I can. it's so frizzy and dry because I wash it too much.

Do any of you meal plan, and do you have any good pointers for me?

I forget the brand but I will post it when I get home. It was just a sample one I got at Ulta to make sure I liked it before buying a big bottle.
I will probably join the gym with my coworkers but won't probably get in the pool with them lol. There is just a line I don't feel comfortable crossing at this time.

Oh I didn't realise they were ALL male yeah that would make me uncomfortable too.

Oh great to hear about the dry shampoo. What's the brand?

I checked out the biolage, pureology and tamanu oil products and picked the ones I think will suit my hair best and saved them on my amazon wishlist.

True, negative talk gets me nowhere. All my coworkers are male, so I guess it makes it extra awkward, the idea of swimming with them.
I tried the dry shampoo yesterday and it really worked well. Not sure how it works, but the greasy roots were not there!

You are not a whale, beached or otherwise! That kind of negative talk is not going to help your confidence. Love yourself girl! You be fabulous!

That being said I wouldn't be comfortable wearing a swim suit in front my coworkers no matter what I looked like but that's cause they are my coworkers.

It all up to you what you do though but I think it's great having that push/motivation from your cowokers to get some fitness in.

Let us know how the dry shampoo works! I wash my hair about twice a week because shampooing does dry it out. Today I just used conditioner to see how that worked but I can't go too long without shampooing because my scalp starts to itch. Why can't my scalp and hair work together? :(

I have a lot of hair, but it is very thin strands (my hair stylist says). It is very frizzy and living in TX with the humidity, it stays that way. I was told I should stop washing it every day, try to go every other day or even every two days for optimal results. Problem is it's so oily if I do that, but then he said, it's oily because it's too dry from washing it too much, the oil production slows if you stop washing it so much. So I got a dry shampoo for the in between days and I'm going to try it and see how it works...

A couple of my coworkers want me to join the gym across the street with them (the hotel gym) and go swimming on my lunch break. Not sure how I feel about being a beached whale in a suit around all my male co-workers...

@Almisse - The supplement I took was from GNC and it says Hair, Skin, and Nails. I ran out a month ago and need to get another bottle. It has a lot of vitamin Bs and if you are interested in foods that have these vitamins as well and other nutrients that help with hair skin and nails I’ve listed them at the bottom of my post.

HAIR
My hair is terrible it is dry, thin, and frizzy and I have a sensitive scalp that itches whenever I try to use an anti-frizz cream or oil.

So when I went on vacation with my husband and met one of my husband's aunts who has worked in the hair industry for YEARS I asked her for some recommendations because she works in high end salons and gives classes and what not so I can share what she gave me but I haven't tried them yet.

This is what I have in my notes

Pureology - hydration
Naturally based oil not silicone - tamanu
Biolage - natural
Smooth infusion oil
Need hydration not protein

So yep that's what she was telling me for my hair type. I'm going to look them up and pick one or two to try on my hair.

She also said Sally's was crap and stay away from them.

I've read deep conditioning your hair once a week with coconut oil should benefit but I always forget when the weekend comes or I'm busy doing other things that I haven't tried it yet.

@Christine – No one should make comments on anyone’s body ever. Unless it’s something like – I like your hair style. That goal is very achievable and I believe you can reach it. Your plan sounds great, make sure to keep us updated.

I want to reach my goal weight before Christmas, I should have reached it in August but I haven’t been as consistent or disciplined as I want to be.

Here are foods that contain nutrients/vitamins that help with hair, skin and nails

B1
-Nutritional yeast, pine nuts, soymilk, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green peas, asparagus, most beans, rice bran, watermelon, whole grains, macadamia nuts, artichokes, coriander.
B2
-Whole grains, almonds, sesame seeds, spinach, fortified soy milk, mushrooms, quinoa, buckwheat and prunes.
B3
-Chili powder, peanuts, peanut butter, rice bran, mushrooms, barley, potatoes, tomatoes, millet, chia seeds, whole grains, wild rice, buckwheat, green peas, avocados, and sunflower seeds.
B5
-Nutritional yeast, paprika, mushrooms, sunflower seeds, whole grains, broccoli, avocados, tomatoes, soy milk, rice bran and sweet potatoes.

Vitamin A
- All leafy greens, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, winter squash, wheatgrass, grapefruit, cantaloupe, red bell peppers, orange bell peppers, and goji berries.

Vitamin E
- All nuts, all seeds, avocado, spinach, rice bran, wheat germ, whole grains, broccoli, mango, tomatoes, kiwi fruit, swiss chard, olives, mustard greens and asparagus.

I guess I've never lost enough weight or inches to notice a change in my boobs. I'd be ok with losing some though, I'm very top heavy. Most of my weight is in my stomach though. When you have hormone issues that is where it tends to gather the most. I've been asked many times when my baby is due because I am not that big all over, just in the middle. I get really offended sometimes and don't mean to be mean, but will reply, I'm not, I'm just fat, some of us can't have kids even if we really want them. :(

I'm ready to start back on my weight loss journey for real this time. This Sunday I plan to jump back in full throttle. Exercise, food prep, all of it. I have a goal to be under 200 by January 1st, 2017. I weighed in this morning at 238.4.

The body can be so weird when it comes to fat loss, I envy women who lose from their chest last. T_T Though to be fair, I didn't have much more when I was heavier than I do now, lol. My tummy, and hips are the spots I carry it most.

What do you use for hair, skin, and nails, Sparrow? I don't pay much attention to my nails, because I'm still working on the biting issue, and most of my skin issue is how easily I get moles, but if I could find something that actually worked for hair I'd be happy. Not that I can afford it at the moment, but I can note it somewhere for later. :)

I workout at home, so I'm fortunate to not have to get up motivation to go all the way to a gym. However, I tend to procrastinate so I've found that I'll give myself a time I want to get started (usually 9am) and a time I absolutely have to get started, just stop what I'm doing and get it done (usually 10am). I tend to get to it around 9:30 this way, so it works out better than it did when I just said I'd do it at 10.

I'm going to get a foam roller, and lacrosse ball so I can work on my mobility more. I have tight hips, and hamstrings so my lower back can act up pretty bad. (Weird how that stuff works.) The pain throws off my deadlift form sometimes, which will only lead to more issues if I don't get on it now. There's a routine called "Limber 11" which is supposed to be a bit of stretching combined with a dash of torture, and I want to give it a shot. Along with my usual stretches.
