Well, ladies...it's almost NOT the New Year anymore!

I have some questions for you:

Did you make SP related resolutions, and how are you doing at keeping them?

Are you doing anything new for the month of February?

If you have a gf or partner are you doing anything special for the big day - St Valentine's Day on February 14?

Let's see what we can get going.

I've actually been doing quite well with tracking my food and exercising but my weight is just a a halt. I am not gaining or losing. It's so strange.

Is anyone else still stuck with holy-day weight gain? I'm still not back on track...cardio is tough when your knees are troubling you.

I know we can do this, though, if we just stick together...and keep on Sparking (and tracking, of course ;-)

Let's hear from somebody!!!! emoticon emoticon

You are not alone in slacking. I have all but given up on weight loss over the last several months. I haven't been on a scale because I know I am gaining. I haven't even logged into my account in a couple of weeks.

This has been a very stressful time. I am hoping to get back on track soon.

I have been slacking the past few weeks, and have not weighed myself because I knew it was going to be a large gain. So the other day I finally decided I was going to weight myself to see how much I sabotaged myself. I gained 5lbs in 2 weeks, and it was good to see that I really need to get myself back on track. I almost didn't actually track the weigh-in, but then I figured if I had to see that number every day it would motivate me to work harder.

So I agree with the belief that weighing in isn't always healthy, but I also think for some people it can work wonders.

I seriously haven't weighed myself since the last time, in august. I know I gained weight!!! What's the point unless I need to know how much I gained?? I only need to know how much weight I've lost. Therefore, I will not weigh myself until I know I'm loosing weight, ie: my black liz claiborn jeans are comfortable. That doesn't mean I've hit my goal, it only means I'm going to start weighing myself to be inspired by how many pounds I've lost.

Does that make any sense?

From "Take the Stress Out of Weighin In"

Many experts and experienced dieters will tell you that the only realistic way to take the stress out of your weigh-ins is to skip them altogether—or at least keep them to a bare minimum. After all, there are many other ways to measure your progress towards your health and fitness goals, especially since weight loss is rarely predictable or orderly.

Updates on what is going on in my life:

My boss is going through another round of chemo. I am not spending as much time with him as I was since his son is home.

My novel is out and keeping me busy. The launch party for Circle of Dishonor went really well.

Last and most important - my weight is creeping up from all the eating out. I have got to get it back under control.

What's up with the rest of you?

Second verse, same as the first... Donnatella9 is still our leader in SparkPoints and Fitness Minutes. Prydequeen is #2 in SparkPoints, and AllisonVM is #2 in Fitness Minutes.

Update: I'm getting my exercise in, but tend to float at the top of my calorie range - sometimes a little above.

Part of the problem is that, in this colder weather, I've wanted to drink hot tea. Well, I don't drink tea without sugar! I don't really have an interest in learning to drink it without sugar, either... learning to drink water was a big step all by itself.

I've lost a pound since the beginning of the year, which means I'm not shooting myself in the foot. I think that when things warm up some of the problem might go away on its own.

Donnatella9 is still leading us, followed by Prydequeen! I'm still getting my fitness minutes in, but I'm having a 'challenging' time where food is concerned. Maybe when I am out of the clutches of the Overfeeding Maternal Greek (OMG)...

As little as possible, I hope. Sunday, we will be attending a grandson's birthday party, but we will not be doing our usual casino stayover for the holiday. The cost for Bouchercon in October and the upcoming trip to Florida at Xmas have pretty much wiped out our travel budget.

I hope that my wife can be prevailed upon to make some turkey, but we'll see how that goes.

This is NaNoWriMo season, so we're hoping to get some writing done during the downtime. I hope that no one takes 'pity' on us so we keep that downtime.

Gwen is having her cancer scans this week and is not allowed to have her synthroid, so I am filling in.

Congratulations to Donnatella9 for leading in both SparkPoints and Fitness Minutes! I see that the usual suspects, Prydequeen, KeepItMoving, and Heather2346 are also in the top 5.

I hold the 5th place on both, which I consider good since I'm dealing with NaNoWriMo and residual symptoms from the swine flu.

What are people's plans for the holidays?

We nearly froze at the game, but it was great to see our little champs win and get their awards. Being a grandma is much more fun than being a mom. You get all the bonuses and none of the problems.

After the victory party and ride through town on a fire engine he was way to excited to sleep. It will probably be a rough day at school today.

Thanks Kyrrdis for posting our exercise leader for this month. I've been neglecting my group.

There's not enough hours in the day to do everything I need to get done, but I'm glad all of you are still here.

I am running off to Eastern Kentucky to watch my nine-year-old grandson in his championship football game this afternoon. It should be fun. He loves jumping on people.

Thanks for your concern. I am haning in there, but not doing really well. I don't get enough exercise or watch my diet enough. As a result my weight is creeping up. My own cancer scans are coming up in November so I will be back on the low iodine diet soon. I guess it means I will get to think about cancer all the time. God what a year!

I am trying to get back to my normal life. My boss is between treatments so there is a bit of a break in the workload. The good news is that the tumor in his throat is gone. We have dodged the awful surgery that would have cost him his voice. There is still cancer along the spine so we're not out of the woods yet. Two more rounds of chemo planned, the first starting in mid October.

Thanks to everyone for the good thoughts. Post-treatment scans are tomorrow. I'm practally holding my breath waiting to see if there has been any success in killing this cancer. He is eating better and has stopped losing weight, but we are a long way from being out of the woods on this one.

Sorry I haven't posted lately. Thanks for the hugs and positive energy. Both are much needed. The big guy is not so big anymore. He has lost about as much weight as my spouse, but doesn't recommend his method. That combination of radiation and chemotherapy is effective but not much fun. The five week course of his treatment ends next Thursday so keep your fingers crossed that it works. He really has no other options and failure is deadly.

Okay you Hardbodies, just in case you don't know who you are:

Donz99 takes first place for April with 2267 minutes
Janick13 finished the month with 1855 minutes
Kyrrdis takes the bronze with 1125 minutes

Way to go everyone. Keep racking up that exercise time and we will have the healthiest Spark team on the board.

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

OK, I am a little slow this week in posting our "Hardbody" winners this week. Monday went nuts around my office.

First place goes to one of our newest members. Way to go Nikarene! I hope we see you back on the list again soon.

Racking up an impressive total Janiek13 is back on the list with the silver.

For the first time we have a tie for third place. Despite my killer yard work efforts, Donz99 and Kyrrdis both beat me out for the bronze this week.

This weeks "Hardbody" awards go to the following members:

Donz99 takes the gold with an impressive 230 minutes of cardio and 240 sets of strength exercises. I cringe just thinking of all those crunches. Way to go Donz99!

Janiek13 takes silver. Great work!

The bronze is (blush) mine. This may never happen again.

This weekend my weight tipped the scale at 250, something it hasn't done for a long time. I know that part of this is from being on my feet all weekend managing the visiting professor conference. Two pounds has come off today and the edema in my legs has softened. Still, I can't help feeling bad about being heavier and not getting my usual weekend workouts. It is going to be good to get back on track this week.

This week Kyrrdis and I have both reached our one year mark on Sparkpeople. Both of us have lost significant amounts of weight, but more importantly, we have made changes in our lives. We are more active and better able to do the things we love. Keep Sparking!

I have added silver and bronze awards to the "Hardbody of the Week and created a new award for the team members who log the most fitness minutes in the month.

Mcgovern082501 takes the Gold for March.
Kyrrdis has the silver.
PrideQueen won the bronze (Sorry they did not have a bronze trophy I could add to the comments on your page).

I think we should all be proud of still being here, still working toward our goals, and having a much more healthy lifestyle than we did when we discovered Sparkpeople.

It amuses me to know that I am here because the University's health coach suggested it. Sparkpeople is probably one of the least expensive and most useful perks I have had from my job.

Not much to report either. Things are moving very slowly. Staying focused on a healthy lifestyle and letting the weight take care of itself!

Checking in a little late this week. There is nothing really to report. I seem to be stuck at the same weight and size...meanwhile my spouse is well on her way to 180ville. Three cheers for her!!!

Well, that sounds like fun! We love to bike. During the summer, we will often ride our bikes along the riverbed sometimes all the way to the beach, have breakfast and ride back.

Glad to hear the tooth has cleared up!

Now that the holiday is over we are getting back on track with our Sparkpeople program. The tooth problems were painful and kept me out of action for several days, but we were not total slugs over the holidays. The two of us had lots of walks on the beach and biked for miles.

Our first bike trip was a little frightening. Neither of us had been on a bicycle for years. In my case about 12 or 13 years and Kyrrdis hadn't biked since high school.

We got home late last night. I am doing ok, mostly just tired today.

Sorry to hear about your tooth abcess, Hypatiax! How are you doing now? Have you been cleared to fly?

Checking in. I am supposed to be at home, but am still in Florida. It seems TSA regulations do not allow passengers with a tooth abscess on a plane without a medical clearance. At least it is warm here, Lexington has been in the 20's this week.

Success is making it through two office parties, three feast with family and friends, an uncountable number of holiday treats brought into our office and time with family members who know all my favorite foods without gaining a pound.

I haven't lost any weight this past week, but not gaining is a huge accomplishment.

Wish me luck at keeping this up while visiting Sarah's family. The Greek food is about as hard to resist as the Southern cooking I grew up on.

I am with you on that, Kyrrdis! It is not always dessert. I am going to add more salad and veggies to my plate. I have not had the need for sweets but if I do I will have a little something.

Happy Holidays! Be sure to have some fun!

I think cardio will have to be our main recourse, too. Another strategy I will use is to eat the foods I really, really want FIRST before adding other dishes. It should take the edge off the "I want"...

And no, that does not mean I will always start with dessert!

I think going over will happen. I am going to try and do more cardio if possible and try to go over with healthy foods.

I think going over some days would be hard to avoid, but I will try to hold the line where I can and squeeze in some cardio. Gwen and I like to walk on the causeways in the Tampa Bay area, which should help during our visit to the Overfeeding Greek Mother.

Skipped the weigh in this week, spent time with the grandchildren, daughter, mother, and sisters. I skipped most of the treats, but still ran over on calories.
