We are exploring a lake about 30 minutes from us today and then going into the little town near it to check out their antique stores!!

I love Tulsa...lived there for ten years back in the 70's....haven't been back much though!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

It is good to keep moving even if you have to be Flexible about when and where you walk.
They are calling for Rain here too but I don't know. I do have a LARGE, Golf Umbrella so a little rain should not stop me.

Well, despite my intention to walk outside today, it didn't work out with my schedule. I ended up just doing a couple of miles at home before running my errands. I guess movement is movement but I understand that you should try to walk in and out for a better workout. If it doesn't rain this weekend, I'll try to get out there.

I guess it is just so flat in OK that the wind has no obstacles to go around and can really get going. We are only a couple of hours from the OK border and have friends in Tulsa. We'll be visiting them in a couple of weeks. It isn't too windy in the city.

Have a great Friday!

emoticon Not a Big Fan of the wind either, but in Oklahoma it is almost a Constant. I swear if the Wind EVER Stops blowing we would all Fall Flat on Our Faces, LOL!! I can't complain about the Weather though. Starting out COLD in the 50's and 60's then warming up to the high 70's and low 80's -- Great Walking Weather!
emoticon The Kettlebells are mine. I have one that is Adjustable from 5 to 20 pounds and one that is 15 pounds. I did do a 20 minute "Workout" with 15 pounds the other day and I Swear I was More Sore afterwards than I am after a 30 - 40 minute Workout with the Machines at the Gym using Much Heavier Weights!!

Hi guys! I hope you are having a great week. I am enjoying the awesome weather that we are finally having here in Arkansas. Today I had a cleaning job but I managed to get 4 miles in with Leslie first thing. I'm planning to walk outside tomorrow. I am still having trouble with one of my knees so I haven't done too much strength training (other than the upper body work on my walking DVD).

Jeannie...do you use the kettle bells at a gym or do you own them?

Cskies...hope your chiro appointment went well and that you are recovering from your busy weekend.

Talk to you later :).

emoticon I think I am going to Like the Kettlebells. I haven't really done what I would consider a "Real Workout" with it yet. I am just getting used to it, watching the Video that came with it and working on getting the Moves/Swings Right. I have read that you can seriously Hurt yourself with them if your Form is Wrong. I do know you can work up a Good Sweat in a Short Amount of time, LOL!!

I made some delicious pork chops tonight. You could make them in a crock pot but I just put them in the oven. Basically, you brown your chops and put them in the crock pot or casserole dish. Combine 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup ketchup, garlic,
some red pepper flakes (if you like a little heat) and a squirt or two of honey. Pour it over the chops and bake/cook until nice and tender. You can throw some peppers, mushrooms or whatever you like on top for the last half hour. Not exactly low calorie but with portion control, a yummy fall meal. I served them with rice and some more veggies.

Going to have to head into town today to grocery shop....I will have 3 of my grandchildren at the farm this weekend...a 4 year old and two 1 year olds...I definitely need to pick up extra milk!

Anyone trying new fall recipes that they would like to share? I love using my crockpot!

Yesterday we had the farm community ladies Bible study and luncheon and the hostess made a tator tot casserole that was really good....and I am not a big tator tot fan! I took a corn casserole and a cherry crisp. There was a lot of food to choose from but nothing that really stood out as superb!! Someone did make a pumpkin poke cake...I love anything pumpkin so I did have a small piece of that and was not disappointed!

Of course that means an extra mile or so to burn the extra calories off!! emoticon

emoticon Walked a 5K with my Sister, Husband, and Dad on Saturday. We finished in 70 minutes which I am Proud of as it was Dad's FIRST 5K and he had only walked a 5K to Practice twice before the "Official" Walk! Plus, according to my Pedometer it was closer to 4 miles than 3.!! It was only the 2nd time that group had done the 5K so I am not sure how accurate their Distance was. I will be double checking My Pedometer SOON!
emoticon After walking over 3 miles every day for the past 3 days with my Sister, I didn't feel like going to the Gym today. I did do my First Kettlebell Workout here at home, and I had to modify a LOT of the Squats (knee issues) and some of the Swings/Slings just looked TOO Dangerous to my Wrists so I skipped them. I broke a Good Sweat, so hoping that I burned some decent Calories.

emoticon Forgot to mention, Dad will be 74 in December!

Good Job on the exercise Alison

It is wicked windy here today...not much fun for being outside...glad I have a treadmill...I really use mine a lot! I have a balance issue and it just feels safe to be on the treadmill.

Going through recipes today to come up with some new dinner menus for dh and me!

Hi all! I've been enjoying a quiet week so far here too. Yesterday, I did a bunch of sewing and got a lot done. This morning, I went into town and did some shopping. Both days, I made time to exercise. Yesterday, I tried Jillian Michaels again and this time I took it a little easier. Today, I am just a little sore so that is an improvement from last time. I did a 3 mile weight loss walk inside this afternoon.

Hope everyone is having a great week! emoticon

I am so glad this week is a much more slower paced one....I did have to run dh's tools into him at work yesterday...for some reason he forgot to put them in his truck...it is a 45 minute trip into town ...each way! Glad I could do that for him though!

Doing laundry this morning...I like to line dry outside and we have a nice breezy day so it should dry fast!

I need to put together some menu ideas for this week too so I am not standing around wondering what to put on the table for supper each day!

Today is my oldest granddaughter's 4th birthday!! Some days I am really amazed that I am a grandma!!

The wedding went off without a hitch last night...which was good because the bride rode over the pasture hill top on horseback at sunset!!

Pictures took too long as sometimes happens and by the time we all got to the reception, dinner and dance a lot of people had come and gone....they let them eat before the wedding party got there because it was running so late!

Buffet of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, green beans, corns, butter rolls and tea or infused flavored water....and deli sandwiches of all kinds. The wedding cake was a bit dry but the icing was wonderful!

I enjoyed a nice slow dance with my husband...that was the highlight of my evening!!

Off to church and sunday school and then the pot luck!! Busy weekend for sure!

Hope everyone is having great weather for the weekend!

We are having the perfect weather for an outdoor wedding...it couldn't be better!

The dress rehearsal went semi-well....the pastor wasn't there...he is the uncle of the bride and lives in western Kansas...he will be there tonight!
The bride is riding in on a horse where my dh will meet her and get her off to walk down the path between hay bale seating to the groom!!

Last night's dress rehearsal dinner was very nice at a historic farm house eating establishment...nice chopped salad with a dressing on it all ready...it was good but sweet!
Chicken fried steak with real mashed potatoes and green beans with dinner rolls and then dessert!! Choices between apple pie, cherry pie, lemon creme pie and boston crème pie.

I hope that you have a wonderful time at your step daughter's wedding. It sounds busy but I'm sure that it will be fun. It's been a while since I have been to a wedding. My youngest daughter and her boyfriend are moving in that direction but it probably won't happen until next summer.

DH and I are in the process of trying to find a new church. It sounds like you are very involved with yours, Cskies.

Finally, I think that you did the right thing turning down the full time job. You sound like you are helpful to a lot of people and that would have been difficult to continue if you were working all day, every day. Something will come up that fits better with your life. emoticon

So glad it's Friday...it is going to be a busy weekend....my step daughter is getting married Saturday night...so dress rehersal and dinner tonight and wedding, dinner and dance tomorrow night!

Church has a pot luck dinner on Sunday as one of our favorite families is moving since the wife is taking on an ordained minister position elsewhere.

I am feeling better about my decision to turn down the full time position and am totally prepared to be offered the part time position they just might offer me.

ok...this is going to sound dumb...they called and offered me the job....and I said......no? I don't think I could physically handle the all day standing and bending and running after 1st and 2nd graders...you could even see that with the kids in our classroom...I feel so bad but she said she was okay with my decision and that if it was part time that opened up she would call me back if that would make it better for me to accept.

Now I just feel old...my dh said it was better to say no now 2 weeks into the job....I didn't say anything to him about it until I had the interview!

I already do have a lot of activities going with our church women and smaller circle meetings and the community church women from our local country women(a totally different group of women)....and I do help with the daycare kids in my dd's daycare in another town so I do have things to do ...it's just that I have always had a paying job and even though I do have income I feel like I need a regular job.

I need to rediscover who I am !

oh my gosh....I have an interview tomorrow for a teacher's aide position at a small elementary school about 15 minutes from my house....I put in an application a week ago when I was feeling like I needed something to do with myself.....

today I was glad I am at home and then I get the call for the interview...and of course I said I would go to the interview....it is for a 1st and 2nd grade combo class...school is so small they combined the 2 grades...about 15 students total in the class...

what have I done????? okay...not going to panic yet...and since I really don't care if I get the job I probably will!! I will wait until then to panic!! emoticon

I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing weekend. I am still recovering from my workout exertion last Thursday so I have limited my activity to a couple of moderate walks. I hope to get back in the swing of things this week. But, I also need to get some things done around here. Our garden is overflowing with tomatoes and peppers. emoticon emoticon Looks like I'll be making salsa! I am also working on a quilt for my baby grand daughter who is due in November. emoticon I love working at home!
Have a great week!

emoticon have the 17 month old grandson for last night and today so the parents can have a break...actually my daughter had a bachelorette party and her hubby went out with some guys so they all get a break from each other....I never had any help with my 3 kids so I know how much a parent can need some time to themselves!! and I love having the grandson all to myself!! :)

we are having some homegrown watermelon today...it is finally ready to pick and cut...then only disappointment was that there were more seeds than I thought there would be...thought we planted seedless watermelon????

hope everyone is enjoying their weekend~

Cskies....I lost 30 pounds and got into a fitness groove by joining Curves last January. I really like the Curves Complete program because it combines healthy eating, walking and strength training on the circuit for a holistic approach to weight loss and fitness. When I left for Australia, my membership was up and I decided that I would try to continue the good aspects of the Curves program by myself at home. So, I continue to eat healthy and now , as well as walking outside whenever I can, I use Leslie Sansone walking DVD's (which also incorporate strength training segments), Jillian Michaels DVD's for strength and also YouTube to add variety and help me figure out what I like. I am still thinking about whether or not I should join a gym but I am waiting until the new year to do that. Everyone is different...some people are really disciplined and can carve out time at home to work out....others need the structure of actually GOING somewhere to work out. You'll figure out what works for you emoticon .

emoticon As much as I LOVE Curves I would hesitate to make a 45 minute Drive commitment. Is that One Way or Round Trip? Is there someone you could carpool with?
emoticon I am not sure what your Routine is right now. Have you checked out the Exercise Videos here on SparkPeople? Or maybe invest in a Set of Resistance Bands? Leslie Sansone has a Video that comes with 3 Bands and (I think) it is about $15

We are finally getting rain here...it is so nice to hear the rain on the roof top!

So I will have to bring an umbrella to the party today!! emoticon

I am thinking of checking out Curves...for motivation and movement...biggest obstacle is that I live so far in the country it is a 45 minute drive and I don't know how many times a week I would want to make that trip! Is there something else I could do at home? Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Hi all. Well, I survived the crazy weekend with my DD and her parties. It was really busy but I think that I was able to help her out quite a bit. She was feeling a lot of pressure what with flying in on Friday morning and out again on Sunday evening but I think that the shower and party both went really well. She will be back again on the weekend of October 12th for the actual wedding. I love having her around so even if she is busy with other things, I am thankful to see her!

I love the fair! Our local fair was while I was away so I missed it this year. Since DH and I used to raise livestock, I always enjoy looking at the animals. There is such a neat, old fashioned feeling to being at the fair. But, you guys are right, with this heat....yikes, it doesn't take long to feel exhausted.

I am trying to adjust to life back home. I have only walked outside a couple of times because of the heat but I've done a Leslie DVD a few times. My weight has stabilized at a pre-trip "norm" so I am happy about that emoticon .

I hope you all have a great week!

emoticon Our State Fair opens on Thursday. I hope to get there some time at least for some Walking and looking at Exhibits.
emoticon I stopped at the Mall to walk after work this morning, and discovered that because of the position of the Sun, most of the sidewalk around the building was in the shade. It was Cool enough that I just walked around the Outside of the Mall until I got to the side that was in Direct Sunshine. Then I went inside to cut back across to where I had Parked.

We did go to the State Fair today but after walking around for 3 hours we left...it was just too hot...103~~
We don't eat the fair food but we did stop at a Chinese buffett for lunch~
then went to the Dillons Nature Center and walked around their main pond. Someone was having a wedding there and inside they were having a baby shower~

I was glad to come home early~

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and getting some fun exercise outdoors~

Have a great time getting the bridal shower ready with your DD!! I have a step daughter that is getting married September 21 but I have yet to be invited to a bridal shower...I am okay with that! I have only been her step mom for 3 years and she has a very controlling mom....I will add that dh and the X were divorced for 18 years when I met him and I had been divorced for 24 so it's not like we broke anything up!

We are going to go to the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson tomorrow! And it is suppose to be one of the hottest days of the year of course....better than rain all day I guess!!

Thanks for the hair report! It sounds like it turned out really pretty. You are giving me confidence to give professional hair coloring a try. I think it is important to do whatever it takes for us to feel better about ourselves...especially as we get older. I need to take my own advice.

Oh...and btw, I need to paint my own house but there never seems to be time. DH and I have a handyman business. Painting is the ONLY job that I like to help him with. I find it very relaxing. I put my headphones on and listen to the SparkRadio or Jillian Michaels podcast and just paint and paint.

Tomorrow, my DD, Hannah who lives in DC is flying in for the weekend. She is throwing a bridal shower AND a bachelorette party for her best friend. I hope to help her pull it all together. I hope you all have a wonderful Friday!

I Love Love Love how my hair turned out!! It is lightened up to medium blonde with a few streaks of light brown in it now!!
She did a highlight treatment with foil and it was only on for a short time....from start to finish and she blow dried and styled too it was only an hour!! I was impressed! It did cost me $80 but it was more than worth it for how much better I feel about how I look now!!

She said that maybe in two months I would need it treated again and then the next time after that it would need a full color job....which I plan to have her take care of for me from now on!!

I didn't do lowlight (underneath) treatment as I don't really put my hair up (it is shoulder length) and she thought it would really make my hair more blonde and I just wanted it lightened up!!

I would recommend anyone to try it....:)

I will come back to let you know how the coloring goes today...I hope it isn't too much of a difference but I am not really sure what I will end up with...but I just know I am not happy with the color I have!!

I admire anyone that wants to paint a room or two....I tried to help my dh do a room in our basement and I wasn't very good with it....:) and I wasn't trying to do it badly so that he wouldn't ask me to help again either!! lol

Hope everyone has a great day...it's already Thursday!!

emoticon My hair is Black naturally but it started going Grey when I was 26. I have been coloring my hair ever since. For many years I did it myself at home, but I ended up getting it So Black that it was Blue. Instead of just coloring New Growth, I was coloring ALL the Hair every 6 weeks or so. I had Layers and Layers of Color on it, LOL!!
emoticon Now it is much easier and convenient to let my hair dresser do the color. Plus, she can play around with highlights and low lights which I would NEVER have the Nerve or the Patience to do myself.
emoticon If you are talking about painting a Room or a House, it will count as Fitness Minutes (Spark Points)!!

I am really interested to hear about your hair coloring. I have been playing with the idea of getting my hair professionally done. I am a natural blonde and usually it lightens up pretty well on it's own or with just a little "help" at home. Now that I am getting older and more and more grey, I feel like my hear is getting more and more mousey. Maybe I'll take the plunge this year too. Let me know what you think :).

I know what you mean, Jeannie, about motivation. My own Mom's poor health and mobility is a primary motivator for me. I watched her live a sedentary life being overweight her whole life. Now, she needs a walker and doesn't have the strength to get out much. I want to do whatever I can to maintain strength and flexibility so that I can remain mobile and active for as long as possible.

Today, I helped DH with a painting job. Not my favorite thing to do but I am pretty good and can save him a lot of time and effort if I go along. Tomorrow, I have two cleaning jobs but I am still hoping for some time to take a walk.

emoticon Not much Exciting going on here. Did find out that Mom has COPD, but that is not too much of a shock to me from listening to her Breathing and how out of breath she gets with the Least Exertion. It DOES Surprise me that it took them this Long to diagnose it!!
Her poor health and Limited Mobility is a Big Factor in my Motivation to stay active.

Glad you made it home safe and sounds like everyone had a fun holiday weekend.

Getting back to the usual week is hard...the first week of every month seems super busy to me even though I no longer work.

Yesterday was the country women's meeting and luncheon of the small community that I live in. Today is the church ladies meeting and luncheon of the church we attend (20 miles to town)

And tomorrow I have an appointment to have my hair highlighted...I color it myself but this last time it turned out too dark and they say this will lightened it without having a drastic color change...if I don't color my hair I would be gray.....I am 57!! One of my step daughter's is getting married September 21 so I am giving this occasion as the reason for the hair highlights! Hope it turns out nice...I will let you know!! :)

Hi Gang! I am finally back home in Arkansas and trying to get adjusted to my "real" life. emoticon My flights home were uneventful and DH picked me up In Tulsa late on Sunday night. We spent the holiday Monday relaxing but we did get a walk in which was good. Today I puttered around at the house...sorting through mail, tidying my house and planning my week. I did 4 miles with Leslie this afternoon and it was harder than usual but I hung in there.

I hope everyone has a good week after the holiday. Sometimes these short weeks go fast and sometimes they drag. I don't find strength training that much fun, Jeannie, what am I missing? C...sounds like a fun weekend :).

Sounds like you are having a great time....everyone must be busy with the holiday weekend...I know we seem to be...

we went to Kansas City yesterday so by husband could spend his $100 gift card he won at Cabellas...we were there for over 5 hours...but it was fun!

ate out at Famous Dave's

and then went to a casino...Hollywood nearby and won $50 but then ended up losing that after an hour or so

the drive there was nice and we stopped at a small town of Alma along the way and checked out their antique shops...didn't find anything I wanted to buy but they did have a lot of things to look over!

I raise chickens and am always on the lookout for chicken on a roost glassware!! They had two different ones but I already had them at home...the other was a rooster and I don't much like them...just the hens!!

hope everyone has a great Sunday...we are headed to church shortly!

Hi all! I am back in the States today....here in Berkeley, CA staying with my daughter for the next week. I am still trying to recover from the long trip home but hoping to do some walking today as well as get my eating under control. The temperatures at home in Arkansas are ridiculously HOT and after a month of moderate weather, I am NOT ready to go back to that!

Hope everyone has a good day and a great week! I'll check in later to see how y'all are doing!

Don't worry, I don't find it strange that your DH doesn't always travel with you. Mine didn't come with me to Australia this year because he really didn't enjoy it when we came last year. He likes to travel but he has about a three week limit and I like to go, go, go! He won't be coming with me when I go back to California for the birth of my grand daughter at the end of October either. My daughter and her husband have a tiny house in downtown Berkeley and my DH is an old farmer....he can only handle so much "city". At this point in our lives, we give each other the freedom to do things apart if the other doesn't enjoy it so everyone is happy!

We have been fortunate to have had abundant rain the past week and this week is dry and sunny...we were in a drought for so long but with all the rain we got within the week or so that it rained every day we have overcome the drought rating...hope it stays that way.

You all travel so far to see your families...that is terrific...I get out to Denver to see my oldest daughter and her little family but my dh doesn't like to travel so he has never even been there....I should add that my dh and I have only been married 3 years and he is their stepfather so it isn't as shocking to hear that he doesn't visit them!!

I do have 4 step children and another 6 step grandkids!!

How nice for you to have your sons nearby, Jeannie. I have three grown children who are scattered to the four corners right now! My oldest daughter and her husband are expecting their first baby and currently live in Berkeley, CA (that's who I will be staying with next week when I return to the States). My middle child is my son who lives with his wife and my grandson in Australia (that's who I'm visiting right now). My youngest daughter lives in Washington, DC area....she is a middle school teacher. Our long term goal is to all live within a day's drive of each other so that will require some of us to move emoticon .

Yes, Jeannie, it's late winter here but it has been so lovely during the past two weeks while I have been visiting. The temps have been in the upper 60's, low 70's everyday with bright, warm sunshine and NO humidity. It is SUCH a treat to be able to walk outside without being drenched with sweat. It is still pretty hot back home (NWArkansas) so I am enjoying EVERY minute of my time down under. I will also spend a week with my daughter in California before going home and the weather there is also perfect for fitness walking. I love it!

Good to see you all!!!! emoticon

I count shopping as exercise, Flora, since it's still better than sitting on the couch, right?

Yesterday, my family and I went to downtown Sydney for the day and although I didn't wear a tracker, I'm sure we walked at least 5 miles.

Today, I was back to my regular routine and walked 4.5 miles on the trail!

Yum....you all have bought some great treats to the party...hmmmm, I think I'll add one of my favorites...Greek yogurt parfaits with strawberries and granola!

Not sure how much exercise you would call it but went shopping with my daughter and I think we covered every aisle in Sam's Club, plus we made a trip to Target.

Hi everyone....including any newbies...Jeannie has been valiantly trying to keep this team alive by singlehandedly posting on many of the threads. I just joined the team a few days ago and noticed that it was only hanging on by a thread (lol, pun intended ;). It is WAY too awesome of a team to languish on the "inactive" beach so I decided to try to get things going again by reactivating some old threads and starting some new ones. Hopefully, when folks wander in here to check us out they won't feel like they are in a ghost town.

C'mon....the concept is great. 50+ (one of the BEST times of life) people (men and women) who are enjoying (or close to enjoying) weight loss success (no matter how small or big) can hang out and encourage each other! It's perfect.

So....let's get this party started or restarted for some of you veterans!
