Good afternoon everyone. Just finished supper of homemade chili with beans. Normally I only make it when it's cold but had a taste for it so that's what I made. Had enough to put in the freezer for another time as well.
Hubby has been busy today. He decided he wants a small deck off the front porch so he's building one. He can only do so much because of his heart condition but it's giving him some much needed exercise and he does beautiful work. He built one at the last house we had and we enjoyed many a warm evening out on it. I help him with it when he needs me to but for the most part he's doing it all by himself.
I've been losing weight the past couple of days which makes me happy but I know it can turn around on me in an instant. So we'll see what it is by the end of the week.
Hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday evening.

Is that is just a few days, over night or over an extended period of time.

If it is either over night or just a few days there are somethings that might account for that. The first being water retention. I read a blog the other day off of the Daily Spark by a Dr. who said it is not possible to gain back several pounds of real weight over night or in a few days. She said that for each pound of real weight gained a person needs to eat 3500 calories over and above what their bodies need to live.

So she suggests that we realize that it is probably water weight or possibly that the bowel has not cleaned out well. Then she said continue with your eating program and make sure that you cut back on salty foods and drink plenty of water. Give it a few days and watch your body settle back into its real weight.

Hope that this helps.

Hi all

Yes, Fluff,it is a shame this thread isn't used either by those not on the other one. Anybody got any ideas to get people back here, we seem to the same few on both threads, I must admit to being very disheartened and about ready to step down as leader if things don't pick up. We obviously aren't doing what people want but when I ask for ideas no-one comes forward and I have tried monthly challenges and that died through lack of interest. Please anyone, tell us what you want from the team????

Flora, good work on losing, it all adds up you know it is going emoticon
I am so pleased your daughter will be nearer to you,but yes,of course the reason behind it is very sad emoticon

Hi Ladies,

Way To Go Sue with losing the 2lbs.

I lost .8 lbs last week , but I will take it anything is better than a gain. That was last Wednesday. We will see what happens this Wednesday.

This will be an exciting week for me, my oldest daughter is moving back to NC from GA. I am very excited to have her near home again, but sad she is getting a divorce.

Wishing all a wonderful week.

Wow, long time since anyone was here. How are you all doing? Hoping that March is better than February, we still have cold and frost here and in Scotland they got the snow back but down in England we just got cold.
Had good results on my hospital tests but DH has torn the cartlidge in his knee and will have to have an op, so waiting for a letter from the hospital with a date

Put 5lbs back on last month but have lost 2lbs again so far so usual up and down

hi to all and pop in if you get time

SO HAPPY YOU ARE OK !!!! I had a doctor tell me I probably had bladder cancer- and yes I was a wreck for about 2 weeks until I got all the tests done... so I know that horrible feeling- I had got drunk after the first week - just could not deal.. it did help.... it was 11 years ago..
so sorry you went thru that..

Thank you all for your prayers, goodies and messages. Just got back after a full day at the hospital and they did loads of tests and scans and made me wait for the results today. Luckily, all were clear and they said it was just a freak happening and hopefully it won't happen again.
I am so relieved as you can imagine, but so cross with my Doctor for saying what she did, she said It was highly likely I had womb cancer and I have been scared to death for 10 days.
Off to get a cuppa and calm down

hugs

I usually cut my roses back around the end of Feb first of March. I use Miracle Grow for roses but I also use something made my Bayer I believe that contains for bugs/black spot etc all in one mixture you just put around the rose bush and water. I hate to admit, my roses are not looking good. I may have to replace some. Mine are really old bushes and it has been really cold. I don't believe they let the cold very much either.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday. It is a gorgeous day here in the low 60's.

Have a Great Day!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone~~

I am so thankful for our health insurance. DH is retired military and living close to a base makes it very inexpensive for us.

Had a nice day today. Did some grocery shopping and then came home and knitted. I am going to get out and cut back my roses this week. Flora, when do you prune your roses? They are so beautiful. What do you use for fertilizer??

Wishing everyone a GREAT Sunday. Hugs to all!!

I don't might paying for health insurance I have worked and paid for 41 years. However some of the things they are wanting in our Health care plan , it that everyone that owns a business has to provide health insurance for employees. My husband has a garage one employee who has health insurance. If my husband does not obtain some kind of health insurance he will be fined , so most likely , we will have to close the business. I do mind paying for those who are no legally here in the US. Again I have nothing again anyone being in the US and getting benefits if they are legally here, I am willing to help them anyway I can. I have said my say , hoping , I have not made anyone mad. That is just my opinion and I believe everyone has a right to their opinion. I don't believe we all have to agree. Enough said.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Saturday night and a Blessed Sunday.

see I do not understand why we can't do that in health care??? we all need health care.. most can't afford the insurance much less co-pays they want...

in SC they have stopped medicaid from helping with eye and foot care- there for I had to cancel my eye appointment for checking on retinopathy with diabetes and I have bifocals. They also would not give me a ride to the appointment as I usually get because of canceling eye care.
luckily I had my 2 foot surgeries and have been released, feet are ok except for neuropathy in which I am going to a neurologist for that...I will just tell the ride its for the cyst in my head.. as that is true too.. emoticon

Our National Health Service (NHS) is wonderful. People who work pay a % of their wage in NHS stamps..the more you earn the more you pay, and all our health care is free. Waiting times aren't too bad usually, we have to pay for prescriptions, unless under 16 or over 60 or certain medical conditions. I just started to get them free last year because of my thyroids meds so all is free for me now.
It is a great system and that is why I was so surprised to hear on the news that there has been such a lot of opposition in the States, but hey ho that's life

DH's leg is a little easier now the painkillers are in his system and he says it is better using a stick(cane)

Sue - so sorry to hear about hubby's knee. He should stay off of it as much as possible and also elevate it. I know - I have a husband too - probably not going to happen. At least he will be able to see another Dr. and hopefully get some relief.

While the weather is cool the sky is bright and shinny. No snow for me.

Struggled a bit last night with eating too late. So couldn't take meds. Will do better tonight as I don't want to break a good pattern that I was establishing.

Hope you all have a great day.

Believe you can and your halfway there.

Morning all.
Progress report first, I got Ralph a DR appt at 1.50 so he could get some sleep, she says it looks as if he has torn the cartilidge in his knee.so she is asking the consultant at the local hospital to send him an appt, and then he will decide if it needs an MRI and possibly an operation. He has to have a stick (which they didn't provide) so he had to go and buy one, not cheap!!. He can walk short distances while it is painful,so he is okay to work, thank goodness. He is having paracetamol and iboprufen every 6 hours while it is really bad. Said it is a bit easier this morning,so hopefully it will be bearable until he can get to see the consultant. He is not happy with a stick though!!!

Hope you are all having a good week, mine is a little strange and a bit up and down, but I am not giving in, just re-grouping..lol

Hi all,

I am back. I did a really silly thing. When I headed home from my daughters house I forgot my laptop. We had to reroute DH through Salt Lake City so that he could pick it up for me. He was home just for one day this weekend so didn't turn the puter on until today.

Will go back and read the posts later.

Hope that everyone is doing well.

Hello everyone~~

Heading for bed but I am trying to get back to posting to my teams.

I was so disappointed to be up 3 pounds today but I know it is from the cortisone tablets I am taking for my bruises. Took the last of them today so hope the weight goes right back off. I am feeling so much better and the bruises are really starting to fade. I may even make it to the pool Monday.

Wishing everyone a wonderful, blessed weekend. Take care and see you all tomorrow!! Hugs!!

Thank you Moe!! I have printed off the recipe and will give it a try. I love yogurt!!

I am going to have an early night again as I still am having some pain from my tooth. Thank goodness the bruises are not hurting at all anymore.

Have a great evening everyone and a great day tomorrow.

Mona, this is the method I used... I did it first with 1% milk and the second time with skim milk, with a bit of skim milk powder added to the milk I heated. www.associatedcontent.com/article/45

Hi everyone~~ emoticon Phil didn't see his shadow. Early Spring!!!

Moe~~I LOVE yogurt. Please share the recipe you used. I would love to give it a try.

Vicky~~I will have to see if I can work that out. If your meeting is with family you may want to wait and stop on your way home. Either way I hope we can do something. I really want to go to the Billy Graham Museum when the weather gets warmer. Maybe we could meet up then too.

Hoping to get back into the swing of things tomorrow. Had a root canal today but it seems to be feeling pretty good tonight. And the bruises aren't nearly as achy as they were.

Wishing everyone a great evening and a wonderful day tomorrow. Hugs to all!!

A Good Morning to you all from chilly Edmonton,

BRRRRRRR!

Sue, all I know about getting weighed is that the scale drives me crazy...when I'm doing well I want to get weighed every day to see if I have lost more...when it doesn't show a loss I get discouraged (even though I may have lost a lb the day before). When I'm not doing well I avoid it like the plague... don't want to see the numbers). I'm just trying to take the insanity out of it for me... I'm a perfectionist by nature and it's hard to fight against that. I have a big sign on my desk right now that says "there's no room for perfection in my healthy lifestyle".

Yesterday I made yogurt for the first time. I have been looking for a yogurt maker (they must be "out of vogue" right now and are hard to find so I googled making yogurt without a maker and found several ideas. It is so easy to make....and so tasty. It turned out nice and thick and creamy and it's unsweetened. I'm so impressed. It doesn't last as long as the commercial brands as there are no preservatives in it... have to use it in about 10 days which isn't much for a litre since my husband and I both eat it daily. I just love it in smoothies. Next time I am going to try to make it with skim milk instead of 1% and see how it is.

Wishing everyone a good day... I'll be back later!

Hugs

Moe

Morning all, chilly here and grey and raining, bright side..it isn't snow...lol. Temps low too and I am so ready for some warmer weather.

Mona and Fluff have had it in the 70's, even if for just a day, wonderful.

ooh Moe, don't want to swap with you though emoticon

Vicky, wouldn't it be wonderful to meet up with Mona this month, wow, if you do...DON'T FORGET THE CAMERA'S..ooh yes Fluff, you too, what a time that would be..I know you are camera shy, so you can take the photo's if they can't persuade you to be on one.

Moe, sounds like you are doing well, wish I had the strength to not get on a scale...lol. Great news that you are feeling so much better. That is what it is all about, getting healthier and if we can lose weight at the same time, fantastic.

Flora, how are you? Hope you got some rest, I know you are tired.

Vicky, I feel mostly better thanks, just a bit ughy hanging on..lol,,warmth would help and sunshine, but hey just have to be patient.

Hello to all who are 'lurking' and reading, come and say hi and let us know how you are, good or bad, we love to see you emoticon

Good evening everyone!

Moe - I did tell about my weight loss on this thread too. Check out my last paragraph of my earlier thread. Believe me, when I'm doing well I want the world to know it. Unfortunately when I'm not I just want to be like the groundhog and hide in my little hole! LOL

Mona - We do an annual trip to Myrtle Beach every Feb for President's Day weekend. Some of my family come down from PA (2 brothers, 1 sister and spouses) and we meet for the weekend in Myrtle Beach. We will be driving down on the 18th and probably be in around lunch time and driving back on the 21st. If you get down there at that time I'd love to meet you. We are staying someplace new this year, but I think it is in North Myrtle. That is where we usually stay. If you don't want to drive down, we pass right through Columbia so maybe we could stop on our way home and meet you somewhere. Either way would be awesome.

Flora - I live in Gastonia, NC. It is about 20 miles west of Charlotte. When I said your area, I literally meant YOUR area! We were in Durham for the family reunion and Raleigh for the training. And I have those senior moments too. Sometimes I open up 2 internet explorers and switch back and forth between them to see what I missed commenting on. Otherwise I miss mentioning a lot of people!

Sue, don't think I mentioned you by name today and just want to say HI! Hope you are feeling fully back to yourself now.

Count your blessings!
Vicky

Moe, wish I could send warm temp your way, however today it was only in the low 40's here, windy and cold, but not nearly as cold as there.

Vicky , where do you live. Where did you come in NC to train.

Boy, I read the post now have forgotten things I wanted to response to, must be a Senior moment.

Bye for now,

Flora

Good Evening Gals,

Fluff, your blowing wishes must be working...it's supposed to warm up ( a relative term) on Wednesday.

I'm ready for spring also Mona.... sick of all this snow we got this winter...unusual for us... we are used to very chilly weather but this amount of snow is uncommon.

Flora, I've always wanted to visit NC.. I met a girl online and she showed me pics of where she lives and it looks wonderful.

Vicky, you forgot to tell the gals on this thread of your weight loss.... you are doing so well.

I won't get weighed until I go to the doctor so I won't be reporting it for another month or so. I do believe I am losing though but more importantly I am getting back into exercise and loving it. I am also feeling so much more energetic with not having sugar so that's so worth it all by itself.

See you all tomorrow...sweet dreams and Hugs!

Hi all!
Fluff - We are planning a weekend in Myrtle Beach near the end of February. My hubby and brothers plan on golfing so please order up some sunny warm weather for us! emoticon

Moe - Remind me never to move to Canada. Those temps are way to cold for me! emoticon

Flora - I have been up your way 3 times since October, once for a family reunion and 2 times for training.

I kept the kids in for recess today. Not sure what the temperature was, but the wind had a real bite to it! I've had a great couple of weeks back. Lost 3 pounds this week for a total of 10 since coming back.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Count your blessings!

How exciting Sue on your 4 lb loss. That must really motivate you...I know it does me.

Great job on the in movie snacks Vicky. I usually do that too and it sure is healthier and cheaper. I can't believe the prices they charge for concession items.

I plan on seeing the movie too. I have heard very good reviews on it.

Hi Flora.... I hope you have a good weekend as well.

So far so good for me, I got 30 min in on my bike and have been making good food choices so I feel great.

Hugs to all!

Good morning! I did go to the movies last night and absolutely loved The King's Speech. I don't rave about movies often because I see so many and it is much easier to enjoy them when you don't have to pay for them, but I really thought The King's Speech was awesome. And I was awesome! I took an apple, some mini pretzels, and some Diet Mountain Dew (No, I still haven't given that up!) in my pockets and walked right past all that fattening buttered popcorn and candy at the concession stand.

Sue - That is awesome on the 4 pounds! Your group will be surprised. So glad you aren't listening to your leader!

Still not quite sure about the two threads. Looks like the One Day at a Time is the more active and these are both used as a chat. Don't really want to post the same thing in both, but not sure how else to say Hi to everyone.

Count your blessings!

Morning all.

Got the new scales and also weighed on the ones in the pharmacy to make sure they both said the same and I have altered my ticker as I lost 4lbs since Thursday. I really did as I was at Slimming World on Thursday to be weighed and have made extra effort since then as I was not happy with my progress so really got myself into gear and it is working and I have not been hungry. Chomping on veggies, salad and fruit with lean meat and fish and it is working well, they will be surprised in class next week.

Vicky, we haven't seen the King's Speech yet but may go next week when Ralph is off (next Friday)

We are going walking along the canal towpath this afternoon with ds and ddil and their 2 dogs so that will be our walking today, well wrapped up as it is perishing...lol

Vicky, enjoy your weekend, hope you don't have to spend too much of it marking and getting lessons ready for next week

Mona, hope you are feeling better and keeping warm.

Moe, have a great weekend

see you all later
hugs

Hi all! Hope everyone is having a good day. I love Fridays! That is probably true for all teachers as well as many other professions!

Thanks for the welcome back Mona and Sue. I hope both of you are feeling better. Sue, I'm glad you are getting new scales. That kind of discrepancy in weight would be really frustrating for me.

Moe - Thanks for you comments. It's good to know someone understands exactly what I am going through. I'm glad you are finding a system that works for you and a healthier lifestyle to go with it.

Hope everyone has a good evening. I think I'm going to go see The King's Speech, but I won't be eating any movie theater popcorn!

Count your blessings!

Hi again Everyone,

It's been over a week since I posted (that sounds like my good old Catholic confession...Bless me Father for I have sinned...lol) It was overwhelming for me at first trying to get back on track after a few years away, reading everything, logging food etc so I let this slip but I'm back if you will have me.

Vicky, your story really resonated with me. I, too, was on Spark about 3 years ago and lost 85 lbs and gained most of it back. I hurt myself exercising and had to give it up for a bit (or at least I thought I did...never thought to just do less), which then lead to me gaining weight and eating more etc etc. I'm doing things a bit differently this time though. I truly am focusing more on the healthier lifestyle aspect of this program as opposed to the weight side.... scales aren't my friend. They are too influential in determining my mood, usually negatively. It was refreshing to see in the Spark book that they are recommending people weigh in less often. I know the weight will come off again if I stay within a reasonable calorie range and exercise more. After all, the only secret to weight loss is burning more than you take in. How you accomplish this, however, is the important part.

Hugs to those of you who aren't feeling well. I will read more and stay in touch. I really need the support this group has to offer and hope I can be an positive force as well.

Vicky, how wonderful to see you, now this time we are not letting you go again. You know you can do it and we will all hold hands.
Come and join us on the One day at a time thread..you probably have and I haven't got there yet
I agree the eating more and exercise less is rubbish...lol and I will not be following that advice, What concerns me is the leader of class says at least 3 times a week, don't tell head office I said this but..... so she obviously isn't following it properly, so I am working from the book. I always put it in my tracker and have been mid cals for Spark so know I am doing it right.

Mona, the snow didn't come to anything but it is very cold.
We are going to Chesterfield looking to buy a printer and some new scales as ours vary by 14lbs within 10 mins of getting on. We will have lunch out (jacket potato and salad for me) and maybe a game of pool..lol

Hi new friends and previous friends. Notice I did not say new and "old" friends! emoticon

Well, I've been popping back onto Spark for 9 days now - tracking my food, water, and exercise. I haven't really been here on the team page enough to get really caught up with everyone. I did send Mona a Spark message telling her that I was trying to get back on track and she has been so encouraging. I've come back before talking about how I was getting back on track and all and after a day or two I was no where to be found. I just didn't want to do that this time. But now I feel ready to pop in and say "Hi!" emoticon

I just read a few of the recent posts. Sue, I will say the eating more and exercising less sure hasn't worked for me over the last year and a half! If you find out that it works, I want to know all about it!
I'm glad to see Dore still here.
Kathy and LL welcome, hope we will be getting to know one another. Flora, I see you are a fellow North Carolinian. You will have to let me know what part. I'm sure there are others that I'm not mentioning by name, but I didn't go too far back on the posts.

So, update on me. When I was last really active on SP was way back in April of 2009. At that point I had lost 90 pounds. After my cruise that year, I just kind of quit. Tried a few times to get back on track, but just didn't stick with it more than a few days. Since April '09 until Jan '11 I gained back 65 pounds. You really wonder how you can let yourself do that when you worked so hard to take it off the first time. It just creeps back on a pound at a time until you realize you have no clothes that you can get into and you are feeling miserable again. I'm just thankful that I came to my senses before putting on that last 25 and being right back where I started from. So, I'm back. I'm feeling pretty good, pretty determined, and have had a great first 9 days. One day at a time....one step at a time....We can do this.

Count your blessings!
Vicky

Hi Kathy, good to see you here.
We try to change small things, maybe one or two at a time and learn new habits, as that seems to work.
When I first started I used to track my water and try to have 8 glasses a day, hard for me at first as I was addicted to diet coke, now I have up to 11 or 12 waters a day. When I gave up coke it took me a couple of months before I stopped having headaches and my blood pressure dropped a lot and I was able to give up some meds for that.
You can sparkmail me any time if you want a chat, some info or anything really
I am on FB as well if you want my name to check out sparkmail me and I will answer that.
As I said before you have had a lot to put up with and have proved you have a great fighting spirit and emoticon

hugs
sue
