Hi everyone

As you may have noticed, we have had a few people join the site recently just to send a lot of solicitations over SparkMail. Much of this mail has been about Acai berry products, and is appearing all over the internet right now.

To protect members from these scams and minimize the problem of junk mail in your Sparkmail box, we are making some changes and improvements in our site security, which should make SP less attractive to spammers.

We still rely heavily on reports from members when they receive inappropriate sparkmail, however.

# We check every report and close accounts right away if a new member is solely soliciting members. This is the fastest way to notify us of any problems with spam or advertising on the message boards, so please use the report buttons rather than sparkmailing a coach or posting about the problem.

# When we close an account for spamming, all SparkMails that they have sent that have not been opened are deleted so members don't have to see them. However, members will have received an email notification of the SparkMail, so they could click to thier account and not see a new SparkMail. If that happens, the most likely explanation is that the mail (or the post) has been deleted--there's no problem with the notification system.

# We've added a number of new security controls to limit SparkMail spam from ever being sent. We will continue monitoring and improving this security.

If members of your teams are talking about the spam, we'd appreciate it if you could let them know that we're working to stop the problem, and also let them know about reporting it.

But please DON'T do a team-wide mailing about this, since that will just add to the problem and confuse people who haven't actually gotten any spam. A post or two on the team message boards should do the trick.

Hello Community Team!

We are VERY excited about a new project that is launching on Monday- and wanted to give you a heads up about it!

We are launching a new site called dailySpark.com,

which will be devoted to blogs- covering topics like fitness, nutrition, healthy living and more! Our SP experts and coaches will be blogging and new topics will be featured on a daily basis. Similar to SparkRecipes, the site is separate from SP but you'll be able to use your SP username and password to access it. Please take a little time over the next few days to check out the site and comment on some of the stories that are already there. FYI: You can earn up to 6 SparkPoints per day for reading these blogs, but that won't be hooked up until Monday. So if you read them this weekend, you won't get points- but we'll still appreciate your help!

Today we added another new "tutorial" video to show our members how to use their personalized Fitness Trackers. You'll get step-by-step directions to: track your fitness minutes on the site, log your calories burned, use SparkPeople's workouts and more.

Hi everyone

We launched a new tool/link on our Fitness Resource Center where you can enter your zip code and to find gyms near you that offer a free pass. To use the finder:
- Click on Healthy Lifestyle, then Fitness
- Look at the end of the center column on the page for the "Find a Gym" section
- Enter your zip code and click search (works for people in US only)
- You'll be taken to our partner Gymticket.com's site to see gyms near you

For full disclosure, note that SparkPeople earns a small amount of money for each free pass people redeem and use.
