You're tough! I hope your allergies are treating you well. I kinda burned the soles of my feet walking around on the blacktop barefoot (dumb) so now I'm being careful about my usual stomping around - hope I'm back to normal for my morning run tomorrow.

I've been having trouble /W/ computer again. One of these days I need to get a new one.
I haven't been online because of the problem I've been having.

Single leg deadlift (dumbbell or kettlebell)

Thurs I walked & added other cardio moves emoticon

Friday, I did a KB workout /W/ Amy from U-Tube out on my terrace. I always write down workouts I like in a notebook, this way I can do at my own pace. I find this to be very effective way for me. If I need to refresh my memory, I can always go look it up again.
Works out great 4 me. emoticon

LOL- so it is "kettle bells" ...ok. I will search for kettle bell swings. maybe I can modify using dumbbells, also would have to modify the pushups, but hey, I got to start somewhere!

Check out Lauren Brooks or Tracy Reifkind. They are the best in explaining kettlebells as far as I am concerned. There are others, too. I do not know much about that guy, but I found it along time ago and liked the format, but I know nothing about his expertise.

Here is a new work out I used to do a lot by Greg Brookes.

The Perfect Pair...

Start with 20 Swings, then perform 10 Push Ups. Repeat another 20 Swings and then do 9 Push Ups. Continue doing 20 Swings but reducing the Push Ups by 1 rep each time until you reach 0.

•Total Swings: 200
•Total Push Ups: 55

This workout takes about 10 minutes to complete

Feeling terrible /W/ allergies. So I've been doing body weight exercises & planks for a few days . When I get these attacks I feel awful. It was an effort just to do what I've been doing. I didn't want to miss not exercising. I thought this was better than nothing.

Well, I did the jumping jacks. I don't have kettlebells to I did 100 squats instead. And then my bicep/ tricep workout was your standard dumbbell curls and pushups.

Goblet Squats (heaviest weight you can use for 8 reps)
Dumbbell split lunge jumps- 16 jumps
Side Lunges with dumbbells-8 per side
repeat for 3 rounds

Cycling for 20 minutes

Do this 3 times each week for 3 weeks and post your results

I walked & jogged Sat. & added strength exercises, I used my tubing, which I took along /W/ me. Did Total body 3 X 12 reps

Walked 2 miles I added planks, Side planks, dips, push-ups on bench, step-ups on this huge rock, Mt climbers, curtsy lunges & other lower body. I did quite a few exercises in the school yard near my house. It's private & beautiful at this time of year.
I enjoyed it today so much. I'm going to try bike riding on Sunday morning

I think I can get all three of these in this weekend, since the pouring rain has finally stopped!

1) How about a nice outdoor 5 mile bike ride, since it is bike month

2) Hike outdoors for 30 minutes)

3) strength training for 30 minutes

Feel free to pick and choose or do them all for and get a "goodie"

OMG this workout was challenging. I did okay, but I did have to modify the pushups & burpees, but I did them. Glad it's over
I did the pushups & burpees indoors & the rest outside while I walked. Used tubing & wrist weights for the other exercises.

Here is another idea for a very intense workout for anyone interested. Post your results/time here.

You do 10 reps of each exercise and then 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 , 2, 1.

pushups
back squats (or bodyweight if you prefer)
overhead press
bent over row
straight leg deadlift
burpees

Modify if you need to. It is a killer, but it will boost that metabolism.

Hi Sharon, Yes it's great exercising outdoors, it makes you feel alive! When the nice weather comes, I try to workout outside often. I do weight tr. out on my terrace, over looking the woods, it's beautiful, I love it.
I did walk today & added lunges, dips, squats,step-ups, planks & side planks, mt. climbers, pushups, standing crunches, jogged just a little, high knees.
I love to workout like this. I also wear 4 lb. wrist weights on each wrist.

I will try to do some bike riding this month, I have to check it out, I know I need air in tires.

Hi SUEPERWOMANSUE, Thanks for the concern. A few years ago they suggested cortizone
shots, but to try therapy first, so that's what I did. It helped for a while but didn't heal me. The shots wouldn't last forever, I would have needed to get them every so often. So I started to use brace when doing strenuous work. It helps me, so that was it.

Without the brace I wouldn't even attempt to do use Kettle bells or weights. As long as I wear the brace I'm good. But we're all different be sure you start /W/ light KB first to see if your back will be okay, because it might hurt the back. Good luck

I walked on Sat. & did strength total body on Monday.

Today I'm going to do some jogging & walking & adding strength moves like squats, lunges etc, while I walk. Nice day & I don't walk to be stuck in house. So taking my workout to the outdoors.

1) How about a nice outdoor 5 mile bike ride, since it is bike month

2) Hike outdoors for 30 minutes)

3) strength training for 30 minutes

Lee I'm sorry to hear about your back but you answered a question that was very important to me. I was thinking of getting some kettle bells but I have lots of chronic lower back issues and I had thought that the swinging might be contra-indicated for me. You make me feel that I am correct about that.

Feel better. Is there nothing that can be done about your back? Poor thing.

I did the exercises for today except the KB swings. My lower back was bothering me & the swings will make it worse for me. I had gotten hurt in car accident a few yrs ago & have a herniated & bulging disc, so I need to heal for a few days. I also did modifications for the burpees & a Laura London workout video from my Ideal Challenge team.

My knees prefer squats over lunges. I tweaked my knee a while ago from running. It's fine now but I still have to be careful with certain moves. I find I can squat low...any and all versions but a stationary lunge is hard for that knee. Walking lunges seem to be better but I still can not go too deep. I wouldn't hesitate asking your trainer. Good luck :)

Maybe one of these days I'll get a personal trainer to watch me attempt a lunge and see if she can identify what I'm doing wrong. I think I'm stepping directly forward or directly back, not off to the side or rotating my leg or anything like that, but sometimes you can't get a good read on your own body without a mirror or a critical observer.

As for today's cardio, I just got home 9ish, so I'm gonna have to figure out something I can do in my home after I finish my school work for the night. Tomorrow at least I have volleyball...

Are you putting your leg directly back behind the other leg? Just an idea, because years ago I had trouble with that, too. Step directly back, with the feet just under your hips before stepping back. The legs should not be to close together.

You may just not be able to do lunges. I think there are some people who just shouldn't do them. Squats are better in my opinion, anyway and you don't want an injury.

Just squats for me today.

Anyone know why I can do squats all the way til by butt hits the floor with absolutely no discomfort (when, until my thighs are burning) but lunges make my knees scream on the first, unweighted, no-so-deep rep. What is that about?

emoticon Rows are good too, I actually did a similar workout and did regular flys instead. Always adjust the workout to suit you individually based on what else you might be doing or what you did yesterday. If you are going heavy, rest is important.

Todays challenge is legs: lets do Squats, lunges and deadlifts. 3 rounds 8-12 reps each.

Also, if anyone else wants to post a challenge, go for it. The more ideas the better.

At the most. You should be able to do in 20 minutes, it depends on how much rest you take between sets. Start light and if it is too easy, you can increase the weight. emoticon

Sorry gang but didn't know about the challenge. I have been busy looking for a job this week with interviews. Had to eat out once....wow it is very hard to stay on track with eating....got the restaurant to give me chicken without any sauce and just plain rice and steamed veggies instead of fried...what a trial...I am trying to get my daughter to join but did get her mother in law to join in NY...GOOD JOB TERRI P....I find that I need to exercise a little every day not just on MWF like in my plan...the walking part is the problem so I got a calculator for counting my steps...I thought 7500 steps would be hard to get but I do more walking than that every day just doing everyday stuff GO TEAM...

Kathy and all! I did good with the challenge today. I tracked my food as I always do. I went to the Y and walked on the elliptical trainer for a new record of 31 minutes! Then I went to water aerobics. We do a lot of cardio, but we do stretching before and after so I got my stretching in. Tonight I found a member who had posted a few times in early May and hasn't been back so I sent her a Spark Mail asking how I could help and encouraging her to come back. Can't wait to hear how everyone else did and I'm eager for tomorrow's challenge!

1. Track your calories

2. Do 10 minutes of stretching...even if it's reaching for the stars.

3. Do 10 minutes of walking...even if it's while sitting at your computer or the dinner table.
