Lew, enjoy Joshís 18th birthday party, I know itís going to be a wonderful day for all of you and heís going to love it! Special birthday to reach.

Lol, yes Irene, Iíve heard that expression and thanks for bringing it back to me, itís been years. A good one too! Saw your post on another thread about meals on wheels and maybe some of your friends would know how to get in touch with them? I'm sure they'd cater to special needs like Vegan, won't hurt to ask.

Sounds like you had a very busy day yesterday, Jude. Lots to do both inside and outside. Yes, outside work would really help with the weight issue but inside stuff can help a great deal too. What are your plans for today?

Joyce, how did you make out at the Green Fair, with the essential oils? Did you get any?

I ended up going to a very favourite lakeshore town with my sister and her husband yesterday. The drive there is beautiful, we saw lots of farmers working their fields, getting them ready to plant crops. When we got to the lake, the water was just sparkling from the sun, looked like diamonds all over, gorgeous to see. I could not capture it on my camera. We ate at a nice place and I had my Escargots and garlic bread, oh I love them! Then we sat on the pier and fed the seagulls. We only saw one duck and when I went to take it's picture, it just stared at me, like he was posing, lol. Great day and we sure enjoyed ourselves. I blogged about it if anyone cares to read my blog.

It is to go up to nearly 80 today so guess where I'm spending my Sunday? Right! On my balcony, with a good book and a pitcher of Lemon water! But first, I need to get my main meal in the crock pot. Then away I go, to have an enjoyable day outdoors!

See you all later?? Do come in and share your day with us, we love that!

Good evening Ladies. I spent today cleaning the house, de-cluttering the garage, and taking the unused bathroom tile back to Lowes for a refund. This evening Sara and I made Potato Salad for tomorrows dinner. I pick up Josh in the morning and he'll mow the lawn and work on his skateboards. Once everyone gets here we'll celebrate his 18th birthday. It's late and I'm tired so I'll say good night all.

Have a great day everyone.

Morning and Afternoon Neighbors, Again the chat is going strong. I have a busy day planned with the weather really great and outdoors is calling. DH had a late sleepin so I got a lot done before he got up. Sun is shining and blue skies and water is so still and so blue with only a couple of fishing boats on it. (Lew, are you out on my lake") :) I am not an inside person but with so much to do I have to start in here. My sweet daughter and son raked our large yard before we returned from Florida but they don't like the detail work and that is where I am coming in at. I have to do around bushes and flower beds etc and we have 2 large willow trees that are very dirty but so beautiful and just coming into small leaves. Then I have a couple areas of a fence to mend that the snow plow piled snow against and broke. But inside is the work area with us possibly going to sell our lake house we are getting it ready to stage for showing in the next month or so. I am taking down all the family pictures and lots of person items and packing them away till we decide if we are going to build or buy a small condo. So either place I head is going to be work but when I am outside it doesn't seem that way. ;) But maybe it will help me reach that goal. Good Luck on your Saturday and remember to think about why you joined SP. I think I might start a new topic if it is alright with Jen and Lew but better check first. With it being my first real day of helping, I don't want to upset the apple cart. :) Have a wonderful weekend. Jude/daisypetal emoticon

Good morning! Itís a beautiful day here, sun is shining brightly and the temps are going up to the 70ís! Itís like an early summer day. Iím going to a favourite place, a small lakeshore town, Port Dover. Going with my sister and her husband. He really wants to go there and we love the drive and the town, we feed the ducks and seagulls, sit on the pier & Ďpeople watchí, have our dinner. Always a wonderful day.

Mel, that is simply wonderful that you enjoyed a great granddaughters concert last night. Enjoy your other great granddaughter today too, what a blessing to have these girls!

Lew, Iím glad you had another nice day. So nice that you and Sara took Heather out for dinner, she is going to do well with the job too! Itís all good news at your house and planning the birthday party for Sunday is always a pleasure.

Jen, I sure hope you get the Fitness Tracker, be sure to let us know!!

Irene, we never celebrated May Day by making baskets with flowers for people. I donít think we really did celebrate but canít honestly remember!

Happy May Day to you too Joyce, good to see you popping in here.

I've had my shower and breakfast, not getting dressed until after lunch. It will be nice to put on some summer clothes and sandals for a change. Heavy coats are the pits, lol. My camera is already in my purse so I'll look for some nice scenes to take photos at the lake this afternoon. Usually there are people in boats, walking the pier, I don't think anyone will be in the water yet!!

Enjoy your Saturday everyone!

We went to a great grand daughters choral concert last night. She's a 7th grader but it was the whole school district. It was fantastic. I am so impressed with the director. She has those kids loving music.

Today I take a different great grand daughter out to get a hair cut and to find the next book in the series she is reading. She's a fifth grader. We'll have fun.

Hope all of you have fun too!

Good evening Ladies. Today has been cool day with low humidity and a nice breeze. It always takes more than one nights sleep to recover from a fishing day and I had a headache most of the day. Not unusual but I enjoy my time on the water too much to give it up just because of some aches and tiredness. I did manage to do a little straightening up in the garage and did our grocery shopping for the birthday party on Sunday but I took it easy today. Heather brought Ethan out at 5 and his Dad picked him up at 5:30. We took Heather out for a fast dinner and she's off on a date. We got to talking about the Radio Shack TRS-80 that we bought when she was 5 years old. Her older brother helped her learn to type on it and she said that computer launched her and her siblings into the computer world and helped them have a livelihood.

Irene, I remember the baskets and the May Pole. It was a different world back then.

Jude, I'm glad you accepted the invite to be a leader. Being just a guy I need all of the help I can get. emoticon I'll say this in public because the ladies that have been on the team for more than a year know me pretty well. I am never offended by people kidding me. I think it brings our team closer together and more relaxed.

Mel, I'm not sure about the wise part but I give her my opinion and then we both live with HER decisions. As my girls were growing up I told them they could do anything if they were willing to do the work. I also told them they would have to live with their decisions. I made them both listen to Helen Reddy singing "I am Woman" - more than once.

Joyce, Happy May Day to you as well.

Jen, you posted while I was typing. Yes, Heather will do well. She is a very fast learner. Sara hasn't complained about her computer since I got her software set up the way she's accustomed to. I hope you get that Spark Fitness Tracker.

Have a great day everyone.

emoticon Lew on Heather's job offer. She must be so excited. I'm sure she will do great--it's in the genes to do well.

I got a new computer about a year ago with Windows 8 but after fighting with it about 2 months I upgraded to 8.1--it's an easy upgrade and so much easier to use--at least for me. See how it goes for Sara and maybe she will do fine with #8. New computers are always a challenge emoticon

Well, I'm about computered out for the day--guess I'll 'think abotu' getting off here LOL

Update on our daughter Heather's promotion offer. The hiring manager, who she knows well, called her and talked about the position, shared information about where the organization was headed, and asked for her input on several things. He proposed that she work from home for one year and then relocate to Boulder. I listen to everything that's said and I'm pretty sure she will be promoted. The position is at the Director level, with a 50% pay raise, and for a girl with only a high school GED that's a BIG accomplishment. I told her that if they propose one year then working remote then she should accept the position and spend 12 months proving that her working remote is a benefit and not a liability. They will offer and she will accept. I'm sure of it. Until then I just keep talking to her and try to keep her off the emotional high and thinking logically.

HAPPY MAY DAY to all!

Yes, IRENE, I surely do remember May Day as a child and even early teens, making baskets from colored papers and filling them with our lilacs and other flowers from the yard. Kids were pretty innocent in those days, it seems, from this perspective now.

Jude, I'm, still struggling with the cigarettes. No excuses but I'm struggling. I agree, this is a great team made up of caring people who want to be supportive of others and you fit right in. I suspect that most of us struggle with logging our food, water, and exercises. We each find our time that works for us most of the time but once it becomes a priority and a habit it gets easier.

First of all, welcome as a new co-leader Jude, I know you ďsuit the jobĒ and will be an asset on the leadership board. Along with Lew and Jen, weíve got great leaders!

Yes Jude, this is a close group of ladies and gentleman (thatís YOU, Lew, lol). I know I can kid with Lew. Youíve found the right way to track your food, jotting it down on paper as you eat, then tracking it at night is a great way to do it! I have loads of time so it isnít a problem for me to put my food on the spark tracker, but if I know what Iím planning to eat for the day, when I write down my breakfast there, I also put in my other meals. Snacks too. Takes time to get the hang of it, youíll get it okay, donít fret! Jude, I took care of my husband for over 5 years so I understand what youíre saying and from what youíve said, you have a lot more to do for yours than I had to do for mine. It CAN be time consuming but always make sure you find some time just for YOU. Keep writing those blogs and Iíll keep reading them!

Lew, what a nice fishing day you had and Iím glad you caught those trout. Just too bad you donít eat them, lol. I love trout! Baby Dolphin would be so cute to see, could you make out any of itís body? Thanks for sharing you and Dumontís fishing day, I was right along with you! Nice way to end the day, supper out with Sara, Heather and Ethan!

Roberta, thatís awesome about having the lease all signed now. That should put a smile on your face and DHís too. Glad your trip went well for you. Since I just moved to an apartment on March 1st, I sure do know what all is going on around your place, take it easy, come in when you can.

I hope the house goes through for you Marielle, but as you say . . . if it doesnít you can move anywhere. Nice that youíre back at the dog park with your lab!

Mel, it sounds like youíre doing really well with Rokki, I like hearing about her.

I enjoyed my day yesterday and have just blogged about it, if youíd care to read it. I DID blow my streak that Iím on, on another team, but Iíve started over again today and will do okay.

Beautiful summer-like days here and into the weekend too. I need to get some things done, like my laundry, but donít feel like it yet. LOL It will happen.

Enjoy your day everyone!

OMG, There is so much going on in this team Ladies and Gentleman. :) I have NEVER been on a team that is so close. It is great!!!! I am getting the hang of charting my intake of food. What is working for me is any old piece of paper on the counter and when I eat anything I am writing it down and also my water. Then in the evening after I help DH with any situation, I have time to do my SPARK stuff. It is working so far for a three day stretch. I know this isn't a lot but it is helping me and I know this is a real problem area for me. Does anyone else seem to have a problem with charting their food intake and/or water intake? Or don't you bother at all? I have like 18 pounds to lose and I am stuck. I have increased my activity whenever I can get a free time before dinner and try to get a good walk in or a bike ride for usually 5 miles. I am a caregiver for my DH, with no complaints as he is the best guy in the world, but it sure hampers your free time. I wish I had time to respond to some of these threads as they are great. Sunshine you are the cheeriest person I know and always positive. You must be beautiful inside as well as outside. And Lew, you should write a book or do some poetry about your trips, it makes things seem beautiful in a normal day. So I am going to go and write a little blog as this is part of my trying to make a habit. It is suppose to happen in 21 or 27 days or something like that, so I am going to try it. We could all try making a good habit at the same time and I wouldn't feel alone. :) :) And Lew, you never answer anyone that asks about those smokes? Is it that you are still trying to get that habit going? Good Luck everyone. Will be back soon. Hugs over the fence. emoticon

Good evening Ladies. Morning came real early today - 4 AM. That's not a complaint because it's my choice and the fish bite early. We got to the boat ramp at 6:15 and 10 minutes later we were heading out the channel to the Intracoastal Waterway. A cold front had passed through yesterday and the temperature was down by about 10 degrees. I told Dumont to put on my rain jacket and put him on the drivers seat so he was protected from the north wind as we headed north up the waterway. I stood up at the helm and drove the boat. About half way to our fishing spot I noticed 3 black Cormorants about 50 feet to the right of the boat just skimming the waves, flying parallel to our course and passing us. They were only about a foot apart in a V formation and once they got a little ways in front of us they moved over to our left side and kept on flying fast. It was cool. It took all of 10 minutes to get to our fishing spot and Dumont got a hit on his lure. Unfortunately he never stayed hooked up for more than 3 seconds. Today was finally my day to catch fish. I caught 4 nice Trout and one baby Snook. The Snook usually don't show up until June. On our ride back to the ramp we saw a Dolphin with her small calf. They're easy to spot because the calf's fin is about half the size of the Mother's. On our drive home we saw a Bald Eagle flying about 100 ft. above the highway. This afternoon I took a good nap and then Heather and Ethan met us for dinner at Bob Evans. I managed to stay in my calorie range.

Have a great day everyone.

I am rushing around here this morning. I'm being picked up soon by a niece who is coming from out-of-town to take me and my sister shopping and then for a late lunch. A "girls day out", we always have fun together.

Enjoy your day all, I'll be back here when I can, possibly later today.

Good evening Ladies. I spent my day getting Sara's computer set with all of the software she needs and moving files from her old computer. I stored them on our external hard drive and will clean out what she doesn't need (thousands of files) and then load the good stuff on the new computer. Between my 2 daughters and their tips I am already comfortable with win 8. That was easier than I thought it would be. This afternoon we went to the Y and I got in my cardio workout and a start on strength training. I finished that while I was waiting for files to be copied to the hard drive. I also got my rods and lures ready for tomorrow and checked out the boat. It's hooked up to the pickup and ready for tomorrows fishing trip. Yesterday the high was 75 degrees and today it was 90. Tonight a cold front goes through and the temperatures drop again.

Roberta, I'm glad the trip went well and things are going smoothly.

Jo, I'm sure you don't need to deal with BOA closing but it sounds like you have no choice. Waiting for Windows 10 is a good idea. It's supposed to be better than Win 8 and you'll get a free upgrade if you do it in the first year after it's released.

Marielle, it's nice that you're getting back to some of your routine. One day at a time - right?

Mel, if you treat yourself as well as your Rokki then you'll be fine. emoticon

Gloria, those temperatures sound great. We both like Chinese and my favorite is the Singapore Noodles - Hot.

Irene, glad you're getting relief from the heat. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Have a great day everyone.

We arrived here a day sooner than expected. The trip went well and, with DD driving, we made it in 9 hours, including time out for lunch for us and gas for the car. We arrived at 7:45 MT--early enough for her to retrieve her beloved dog. He was SO HAPPY and EXCITED to be home with her, and gave a warm welcome to me, too. He hasnít let her out of his sight all day today.

Tomorrow we have an appointment with the apartment Manager to sign the lease (takes about 45 minutes), then we go shopping for supplies. On Friday morning, we meet her again at 9:00 to leave a check and exchange keys. After that DD and I will go to the apartment to put down shelf paper. The van will arrive about 9:30. The cable guy will be there between 1:00 and 3:00. I expect to have internet service by that time. Iím using DDís right now.

Today is comfortably cool and Sunny. Somehow there was a mix-up on my clothes and I have only one blouse and one pair of slacks to last until Friday. Thatís OK, as DD has a washer and dryer I can use.

Thatís all for now.

read the posts but no time to comment. will try tomorrow.

our weather very bad and extremely hot.

much to do and now our branch of Bank of America is closing so now I have to move my safety deposit contents to another branch. have time so will try next week - weather so hot, damp and everything else.

happy Sara likes her new PC. she is lucky you can help. win 8 seemed too complicated so that is why I ended up win the 7. will wait for win 10 which is coming out end of this year.

just don't feel well with this weather but everyone with same problem.

stayed up late last nite watching MD problems. just terrible and now the ball game decided to play today but not open to public.

now after 5 so better close. if I feel up to it must go shopping - usually go on Wed but weather too unbearable. have to stop for gas too.

will close - you all seem to be doing well . hope I have something to heat up for dinner.

take care all

JO PS. Irene my Mom always told us never to eat hamburgers of any kind out even in restaurants - she said they used meat left in dishes - and my friend and I saw that in this Italian restaurants - needless to say we returned dish and walked out. old abits die hard - I still won't eat hamburgers or meatballs out.

Hello everyone, Back into at least one routine. I've started back going to the dog park with my lab in the mornings. Still waiting for resolution of the septic issue at the new house. Now that my house is sold I feel free if this house doesn't go through I can go anywhere.

Hello All, I have been sorta off kilter lately and have not read as much or gotten to the blogs as much. Just too much trying to get ou and get my walks done plus all the other chores and doings.

It has been sunny almost every day here and little Rokki and I have been walking the headlands and the beach. She is gradually getting the idea of how I want her to comport herself in public, i.e. walk just behind me so I can see her head but she is not ahead of me or tugging at her leash. I have found that it takes CONSISTENCY, PATIENCE, and PLENTY OF PRAISE and REWARDS. I'm thinking those are tools I can also apply to myself when trying to learn a new healthy habit!

Happiness is created, not waited for,

Mel

Marie, I can now get on your page and left you a Goodie but cannot leave comments on your page and cannot leave comments on your photos. If you don't want us to leave comments, that's okay, that's your choice but if you do, you'll have to "edit" your page again, go to upper right hand side and make sure to click the 'allow comments on page' and 'allow comments on photos.' Or worded something like that. I looked at your photo and that is a very nice one of you by the flowers! I like!

Good morning everyone. Sorry about last night but boy was I tired! It was a beautiful day for me but very tiring. I slept well, and feel great this morning. Temps going up to near 70 so Iíll be getting out on my balcony after my hairdresser leaves. Sheís coming at noon and we spend about 2 hours together, we visit after she cuts and sets my hair. I love this woman, she is extremely nice.

Thank you to those who read and commented on my blog last night, that is always encouraging.

Iíve had my warm lemon water before breakfast Ė breakfast was some heated leftover oatmeal that I had made in crock pot the other night, was good! Now Iím sipping on cold lemon water that is in my infusion bottle. Iím a ďlemonĒ person, can you tell? Lol

Marie, Iím glad to hear you felt better yesterday and was able to go for a drive. That always perks up a person. I LOVE Chinese food and Iím going to a Chinese buffet tomorrow for lunch with my sister and a niece. Yes, it has lots of sodium in it but if weíre careful and donít eat it often, it wonít hurt us. I plan to enjoy mine too! It looks to me like your page is ďopenĒ so Iíll check that after my post. I sure hope it is, would be nice to come on your page!

Iíll read your blog too Irene, always do. Am glad your weather is better. I donít like extreme heat either.

Lew, I am so glad that Sara likes her new computer, that is such an awesome gift! Iíve heard both pros and cons about Windows 8, Iím glad to hear that you all like it. I have Windows 7 and never have any problems, well not BIG ones, lol. Yes, you have a warm & close relationship with your children and all your family and that is priceless, it is the ultimate gift in life! Hey, we have something really in common, Iím noted for being a Ďlistí person, I have lots of note pads, note books, I list & write down everything that Iím going to do, have done, etc. I like to plan everything out. I donít really know if thatís good or bad?? Maybe weíre just Ďorganizedí people??
emoticon

Jude, youíve got the right idea . . . write a daily blog, doesnít matter if you just say Hi, I had a good day! Itís the habit forming that is good. I still find it hard to put my meals/food on sparks, easier for me to put it in a notebook or even in a blog. But then, I have lots of time where you donít. That makes a difference. Stay strong, you'll get the hang of it all!

Hi there Mel and Joyce and anyone else I have not mentioned.

Remember to take care of yourself today everyone, you are so IMPORTANT! Drink your water, eat healthy meals, snack well, get in some exercise, even if itís walking around the house. Doesnít matter about our ages, we CAN do it, we can lose weight and be healthier!

It was a beautiful day today after the long winter the temperature got up to 21C with lots of sun. It was my first full day out of bed since my fall and Eric took me out for a drive,it felt so good to be out. We had supper out and I will say that I did cheat,we had Chinese food although I only eat half and brought the rest home.

I am a bit tired tonight so will say goodnight and hope to connect with everyone tomorrow.

I wish you all days of love and peace

Good evening Ladies. Today has been a good one, gray, cloudy, and drizzle. This morning I spent a good while working on getting Sara's computer set up and removing all of the unwanted programs the manufacturer put on it. It's called bloat ware and sometimes worse language. She's happy with the computer and spent a couple of hours this afternoon on Ancestry.com. She uses Windows 8.1 and showed me a couple of things that makes the software much more useable as I learn it. She had a flash drive with dozens of pictures of our new Great Grandson and Sara, of course, wanted all of them. Laura's visit was a pleasure and a blessing. I'm glad that we're not only physically close but emotionally close as well. I often give thanks for the relationship we have with our kids.

Jude, I think it takes some folks a long time to get in the habit of logging their food. It's well worth the effort. Of course I can say that because Sara says I'm OCD and that fits right in with my personality. emoticon I know that Sara could never do that. I keep lists and plan and then adjust as she plays it by ear. Just work on it one day at a time and you'll get there.

Have a great day everyone.

Lew, you are such a great and caring husband. I am sure Sara knows that already and appreciates what she has. God Bless both of you. I am really trying to get into this food tracking and having a heck of a time with it. Just don't seem to be able to take the time and I wonder how life got so busy when I got this old? :) I am going to try to get into the habit of doing a daily blog no matter how important it is or how small it is. It is just trying to get control of what I do on a daily basis. It is so difficult to find time for ourselves when we are a caregiver but it can be done and I don't want to be FAT! So if I want to lose this extra 18 pounds then I better start doing what I should be doing and that is to track my food and do what is right. Sunshine you are about the best neighbor anyone can have. I think we need to start a spark city so we can all move into the neighborhood to help each other on this road to success. It is so fun sitting down at night after DH is tucked in and reading all the posts. I wish I had more time in the morning to read and participate as it is just what I need to keep me strong during the day. Everyone have a TERRIFIC TUESDAY and remember that goal. Jude emoticon

Good evening Ladies. Today we went to Sanford to get Sara's computer. Although the website said it was in stock they had none. The clerk checked and said the closest one is in Daytona Beach. We came home and found where the Best Buy in Daytona is and headed up there. They had it we got it and 2 flash drives and headed home. I spent about 30 minutes setting it up and then we tried to figure out how to use Windows 8.1. It's a huge change from Windows 7 and it will take days or weeks for us to get comfortable with it. Sara really didn't like the way Internet Explorer is set up but changing it to what she's accustomed to was simple. I also downloaded Google Chrome and set it up the way she likes it and now she likes the computer a lot more. I started deleting the extra programs that Hewlett Packard sticks on their computers and that will also take time to delete all that she doesn't need. That's all I've done today and I'm tired.

Have a great day everyone.

Back from our Synod church convention. It was great. We got an upgrade in our reservations and ended up in a beautiful suite. The weather was a little colder then I like.
Did lots of walking, none of the buildings were close.
Have a great week.

Lots of good posts today. I've read them but can't respond right now.

We have sun again so must get out and do my two shorter walks today and today is the day I've planned to re-start my bicycle riding while watching the news or maybe a cooking show.

Have to work on my decorating and do laundry and a few other things I am behind on too.

Great Day All!

Good morning everyone. It is a very grey, cold, wet day here but tomorrow is going to be lovely!

Jo Ė my dog, a Chihuahua, is 8 years old and only weighs just over 3 lbs! Canít get them much smaller than that. And yes, they sure are costly, we paid close to a thousand dollars for her and I must say, she was worth every penny! I no longer have her, it was really best for her to stay with my husband when our marriage broke up last December. Itís the only home she is used to. Hope you have a good week.

I read your blog Jude and commented. You write very nice ones, good to read, and Iím looking forward to more from you. Isnít it inspiring to be on a team with those who really work on their weight and health issues, itís uplifting! Have a nice day, neighbour!

Irene, itís terrible what goes into hamburgers, I rarely eat them when Iím out and will think twice next time. I do love my meat!!

Sara was plenty brave when she pierced her own ears Lew, ouch! Itís good that she had them done again, or did she get a second set in her ears?? I can wear two earrings in each of mine but since last winter, I seldom do. Donít know why I stopped! Sara is going to be plenty excited, getting a new computer for Motherís Day, that is awesome! Iím probably just talking through my nose Lew, when I talk about another dog, I think it may just be that I miss Snooks. She was my baby. I donít really want to be tied down either. First time in my life that I can come, go, do as I please.

Marielle, my son's wife really believes in Holistic way of healing too and I don't know if that works really, or not. Hope your wrist feels some better today, I suppose you're right about not wanting to take more of the meds. I'm on pain meds for the rest of my life, due to not being able to have surgery, so my situation is different.

As I mentioned, it is a very dull grey day here but tomorrow is suppose to change all that. Weíre to get high, much higher temps and sunshine! Yay! And what a time for me to have a busy few days, grrr. Get my feet done tomorrow morning then out with sis and her hubby in afternoon to go to bank, Walmarts, grocery store, then hair cut Wednesday and then . . . Thursday a niece is coming from out-of-town to take my sister and me out to thrift shops, browsing, and to a Chinese buffet lunch! Iím so looking forward to that. This niece is close to my age and weíre more like sisters than niece and Aunt! Then all 3 of my daughters are coming on Sunday for Motherís Day and are bringing the meal, home made!! Iím so happy that Iíll be seeing all the girls together!

Got to go, time is flying here. Have a good Monday everyone!

I read something today about hamburgers at the fast food restaurants and probably at others also. They are only 1 to 2 % beef and the rest is like stuff they put in hot dogs. They even inject ammonia in them. Now if that doesn't turn one off of hamburgers I don't know what would.

My gosh, it is my bedtime but I had to stop in and catch up. It was such a busy day for us. It seems we have company a lot since we arrived back home. All of our family and friends are so happy to see that my DH is doing better and are so great in welcoming us back home. It is so wonderful to have good people in your life. BUT, it sure raises heck with any schedule of trying to get back into a routine. At our age I guess I have to slow down and enjoy each day instead of pushing so much into one day. Anything important will get done as necessary. I am hoping that things will settle into normal starting tomorrow. I have a million calls to make for Dr. appointments etc now that we are back with our normal doctors here in Michigan. I hope you are all right about the pounds going away. This is so hard but you guys and gals are all working so hard to get to goal and it only makes me want to do the same. Good Luck. I really need to go and do a blog as it is something that I promised myself I should accomplish more often. So Good Night and sweet dreams.

Good evening Ladies. It's been a busy weekend and I've just been doing little tasks around the house. Yester I took Sara to the mall for lunch and to get her ears pierced. She pierced them when she was 25 and one of them closed up. The girl did an excellent job and I didn't mind this near as much as when Sara did it with a needle herself. This morning I picked up my grandson Josh and he cut my grass before he started working on his skateboard business. I taught him how to use a Router to round over the edges of the boards and he picked it up quickly. He's gradually learning to use all of my power tools and every time I show him a new one he gets very excited. I think the Router was the last tool that's new to him. Now he just has to learn the tricks of how to get the best out of each tool and that just takes time.

At about 5 PM our youngest daughter Heather showed up and we talked about an ongoing problem with her Mom's computer. We both came to the conclusion that Sara gets a new computer for Mothers Day. Once she gets it then I'll be able to really get into the old one and see if I can get it working properly. It will go to one of the grandkids. While Heather was here our oldest Daughter Laura showed up with her best friend and her friend's daughter. All of the women took a tour of the new master bathroom and stroked Sara's ego with profuse compliments on how great it looks.

Jo, I use IE to get to Sparkpeople. The only way to get to SP is with a web browser and IE seems to do the trick. SP just has some deficiencies and it seems to operate slower than other web sites. I think the problem is that the programmers didn't write efficient code and when you refresh one item on a page it refreshes all of the ads. For example, when you switch from search to favorites on the my nutrition page is refreshes all of the ads instead of just the nutrition pane. I'm not a programmer and no expert but that's my observation. Also, don't be worrying about me and the exercising. I haven't pulled a muscle in decades. I listen to my body and know right away if I'm pushing too hard. On the weather - we're running about 5 degrees cooler than you are down there.

Gloria, I love that cartoon. That applies to me every day. For what it's worth Sara and I decided not to get another dog after Heather moved out with Charlie. We don't want to be tied down by a pet. When I was in the Navy and Sara was dealing with 3 kids she planned a week of meals and then went to the Commissary and shopped. Now we don't even plan breakfast.

Marie, losing 5 pounds is good. Bashing in your head is not the best way to accomplish it. emoticon Head injuries are nothing to mess with so lay down as much as you need and let it heal. We'll be here when you can visit regularly.

Jude, I always gain a couple of pounds on a long driving trip but it comes off the next week. Glad you're home safe and now you just have to acclimate to the weather up there int the frozen Tundra. emoticon

Marielle, the only web site that gives me problems is Sparkpeople. Our daughters and our grandkids use our WIFI when they're here and they like the speed we have. I agree with you that Phoenix is hot. The two hottest places I've been in the U.S. were Phoenix and Las Vegas. But like they say - "It's dry heat". emoticon

Have a great day everyone.

Daisy, Here in Prescott it has been cold too (obviously no where near Michigan). It has been rainy and high humidity with lots of cloud cover. It hailed this morning about 11:30 and has rained all day off and on. It chills me to the bone. We've had snow in April and can't really plant things til after Mother's Day - so not too unusual.

Gloria, I do love living where I do, so close to woods and hiking trails. I think I'll hold off going to the doctor for any more meds and give the tendinitis time to heal, continue wearing my brace for a month and ice it and use wet heat (like the doctor said) to see how it does. When I got diagnosed with Kidney Disease 5 or 6 years ago I stopped taking NSAIDS on a regular basis. I try to use more wholistic meds, herbs, etc. Doesn't always work. I just really overdid myself with this move.

Marie, sounds like your fall was really bad. Just take care of yourself and heal. You will be in my thoughts. Take everything slow.

Jo, sounds awful where you are right now-the humidity must be outrageous. I do have a treadmill I can use when the weather gets bad. My mailbox is not close to my house so I have to walk (non Lazy) or drive (very lazy) to check incoming. I am sorry they don't allow you to walk pets where you live. I love poodles--had a miniature when I was very young-from about 16 yo til she passed at about 10 or 12. She had seizures and heart problems but was an angel. I love all dogs-I've had from the mini poodle to a great dane and now I have my lab. He definitely keeps me active.

Good news! My house has sold for sure! The buyer accepted my response to his inspection issues and I am having septic pumped Thursday--house will close on May 14. Now to deal with the house we moved into..............................

forgot to tell you all,

it is VERY VERY HOT HERE TODAY. in the 90's - went out to mail box and thought i would pass out. it is Sunday and no one is is moving out of their apts.

even A/C having a tough time - have it on high and just a short coverup. had to remember to put on a cover up when i went for mail and that was only abt a yard or so away. '

i like heat but this is too much. Thank God A/C is holding up '

Lew - is your weather a little cooler than ours.

Gloria - they don,t allow any walking of pets outside. i thought of getting what they call a 'tea cup dog' but they are very expensive and not sold in any pet stores here anyway. also would not have anyone to take care of it if i got sick etc.

better close - just looked at time and it is almost 5 PM - Must have a cup of tea and think what i could heat up for dinner. at least i always keep frozen portions on hand. Thank God mu DH just loved to eat whatever -

better close - hope your weather is better than ours.

JO - emoticon emoticon even rain doesn't cool it off.

read the posts. and I see a few of us having some problem.

Lew - first of all - don't be so fast with your exercises. I use to be that way and had many problems. now I go slow and do very short periods of all such as if I want to use weights I do one set of 8 usually concentrate on upper arms - then sometimes while watching TV I do some leg weights. you can do a lot with weights sitting down as I can't stand too long.

I think a while back I watched a sitting program on SP usung weights and ands. SP has many exercise programs.

Marie - sorry about your fall - it was a nasty one. I am afraid of falling as my leg problems started with falls. being a New Yorker we always did everything fast and had a hard time slowing up. but age is creeping up (am what I call a senior senior) and outlived all friends and family have no one to call in an emergency. but Thank God very recently met someone and she checks on me. take care.

Gloria - I never plan meals. I store everything in single containers and when I feel like having dinner, just grab veggies or whatever and heat in microwave. I eat to live so food doesn't mean much to me.

Marielle - i like your area and thought of moving there. i take my time thinking abt moving to other areas but now with this bad weather conditions glad i stayed put. my DH and i stayed in a few places in AZ but now that i am alone and too old to check out areas i will stay here.

better close this.

JO

any other way to go on Spark People?

I tried to put on another browser but had trouble. FireFox did not work. the only one that works is IE. can'tfigure out the problem. even Google had trouble. don't know if it is the PC or what. of course, the Staples people did not know.

is there an easy way to add SP?

when I fwl better about driving with my legs problem, I will check with Barnes & Noble. I think they have Nokia techs.

Good morning all,

Sorry I haven't been around for awhile.I had a very bad fall down our outside stairs, landed on the cement landing and injured my head.My husband called the ambulance ,I ended up in the hospital for 10 hours in a neck brace unable to move.,I lost a lot of blood and have a very large lump on my head .I am home now on bed rest but just came here long enough to let you all know why I was not here, and that I didn't forget you.Now that I am up my head is paining again so I guess that means back to bed time.I will try again tomorrow to spend a little bit of time here.

The good news is that I lost 5 pounds this week. And I am sure that you can view my sparkpage now.

Have a good day everyone
Love and prayers, Marie.

Good morning everyone. A beautiful sunny day here again, Iím going to sit on balcony this afternoon and do a bit of Ďsunningí.

Marielle, itís wonderful that you have woods to take your dogs for a walk! I love walks in woods too, or at least I did when I walked well. How nice that you and DD go together. Iím sorry the tendonitis is bothering you now that your meds for the pain is finished. Will your doctor let you have more meds??

Hi Jude! I feel the same way coming in here, itís like we all live in the same neighbourhood and are sitting down to have a chat together! Isnít that great? You would be feeling the cold after having been in Florida! But glad the scales werenít bad for you, one pound is not really much of a gain and could even be just water retention. Our weight actually fluctuates daily, thatís why itís best to only weigh once a week. So, NO, it wasnít Fat you gained, LOL. Looking forward to reading your blog today! Iíve already written mine.

My meals are planned for today and Iíll stick to that. One day isnít bad but am wondering about planning meals for an entire week. Do any of you do that? How does that work for you? Iím afraid of getting up in the morning, looking at that dayís meals and if it doesnít really sound like what I want . . . I may not follow it!!! Let me know how you do, everyone??

Iím waiting for the sun to hit my balcony, not sure what time it arrives there so will really watch today and time it. I only sit in sun for half an hour at a time, donít want to cause myself any problems but I sure do enjoy the warmth and love getting the winter white off my face!!

Enjoy your Sunday all, come on in and share your day with us!

Hi to everyone, so great to see so many people posting and talking back and forth as if they lived in the same neighborhood. We can all just pop our heads over the fence and say hi. :) Yes, back in Michigan and I am cold all the time. It hasn't helped burn any extra fat off the bod yet. I finally got back on the scale this morning and it wasn't as bad as it could have been with only a pound gain and that could be the muscle soreness and water retention from so much sitting. I am probably making excuses but I don't want to say it is FAT! :) I love the cartoon and it is so true. This is my normal routine so maybe life is settling down and I can get back on some sort of schedule but who knows. Life is so up and down sometimes. I plan on writing a blog tomorrow so I can catch up with myself. Everyone take care and lets make Sunday a planning day so we have a really good week. Night all.

Gloria loved your cartoon. I often feel that way.

Mel, your new pup sounds delightful. I have always had dogs and cats and love them to pieces. They do make it hard to travel and their health issues can become expensive, but definitely more than worth it.

My DD and I took her dog and mine (the lab) on a run (they ran, I walked) in the woods. We let them off the leash and they get their exercise. DD takes them both in the morning-we live by a huge empty space with hills and trails between us and Prescott Valley. It is perfect. I did pretty good until the uphill started and then I huffed and puffed.

Lew, I think that website problems can sometimes (not always) be the internet service provider. We had Qwest/Century Link and then changed to Cable One because they were so bad, now we're back to Century Link and are getting better service where we are. You should let the Spark People know about your problems, they seem to change things a lot trying to make things better. We are internet-aholics in my house: 3 grandsons who play online games which need speed and my DD who was doing classwork on line but now just does research etc. My other DD has a smart phone and uses WIFI a lot.

Now that I have finished the medicine, the tendinitis is coming back some. I am using ice and the brace to keep from re-damaging it. It is mostly at the outside bone in my wrist-there's the wrist bone and then a bone at the outside of the palm that hurt the worst. It also hurts all around the arm bone at the wrist too.

Jo, wow 90 sounds really hot. I grew up in Phoenix (AZ) - known for its hot hot weather & it was. In the 1950's is didn't seem as hot at today's world though. Then it was 50,000 people with a downtown area and would get 110 in the summer but in August the weather would get muggy. In the 1980's (I think) it got to 122 and started melting the tarmac at the airport (too hot for planes to fly). The nights seem to be warmer now and I don't think go much lower than 75 or 80 in the summer. Well glad I live in Prescott now: 4 seasons: just enough snow, enough heat and spring and fall (and summer even) are absolutely gorgeous. It has been cold and damp here for the last couple of days and trying to rain..

Jen sorry about your bruised ribs. Hopefully the heating pad will help. Ice will take any swelling down. Good luck.

Good morning all, on a bright Sunny Saturday!

Your puppy sounds like a sweetheart Mel. I think my childrenís idea of me not having a pet here is so Iíll be free to go to any family/friendís to visit for a few days or a week, etc. It seems Iíve always had a wee dog and could not really go anywhere for any length of time. Being on my own now, I do not have anyone who would come in to tend to a dog should I not be here. I do miss my Snooks (Chihuahua), she was such a cuddly little dog, 3 lbs of affection! She curled up on my lap every single night for hours and I miss her so much. Not sure that Iíd want to train a puppy here, Iíd be so afraid of the hardwood floors being stained! And I canít go out walking, so the puppy/dog would be an apartment dog only. I donít really think thatís fair for a dog. A lot of thinking to do and Iíll make sure to make the right choice for me but Iím going to take months before I decide. You have a good pet and itís good for you Mel, Iím glad you have her. Oh yes, I also donít drive so Iíd be looking for someone to take me to the vets, etc. Ė a LOT to think about! Enjoy your Saturday, doing whatever you and DH decide to do.

Lew, you always know your limits! Itís good that you cut the Y visit short, your legs would be thanking you! I hadnít realized that Dumont and his wife live so close to you and Sara, how nice that they can just walk down to visit with you two! Have a good weekend.

How nice to be shopping in a nearly empty store Jo, that sure saves time. And good that you found a house cleaner who does such a great job.

If you lived closer Jen, neither of us would be getting anything done because weíd be visiting at each otherís home and eating my Amish bread with hot drinks . . . all the time, LOL. Iíd love that, I really would! Your mother had wise sayings and yep, the work will always be there, it will wait. Take care of those ribs and let the rug/carpet cleaning WAIT!

Here's a smiley for all of you . . . ever have a morning like this one?

Gloria, you had asked whether I am training a puppy. Our son brought a small female pup to us that someone had given him and that he hoped we would take off his hands. I thought it would be perfect for our 11 yr old great grand daughter who has been begging for a puppy for at least three years. Her living circumstances have never allowed her to have one, so I decided I would take this one and she could call it her own and take it with her if her circumstances ever made it possible. She is very small and our son thought about 4 months but the vet looked at her teeth and said 8 or 9 months back in February, so she's probably 11 months old now. She's a terrier mix and looks like a Fox Terrier. So precious, adorable and funny. I have nearly all of her care as the grand daughter is in school of course and only gets to come over about once a week. Even though she is tiny and seems controllable, I want her trained to walk beside me and not to pull on her lead rope or bark or otherwise act out when I am walking her in the state park that our home abuts. I walk on the headlands and the beach every day and other folks are there with dogs of all sizes, so she has to be mannerly. Gloria, I wasn't sure I understood your kids having asked you to not have another pup. Well, I do know it's hard if you want to leave the house for very long, as in going to see a movie. I haven't done that yet but would have to get someone to sit with her while were were gone. i have grandchildren old enough to do that, but it still isn't really easy or convenient for them. But the pup has been wonderful for me during these months since our son's death. She has really helped me go through this grief process.... you know, she appealed to my maternal instincts to care for a small being, I guess. Our grand daughter named her puppy Rokki. Rokki is about 7.5 pounds and not expected to grow much if any now. This summer DGGD will take a dog training class with her and I hope she'll gain confidence and skills from that.

Marielle, thanks for telling me a little about your Buddhist practice history. I have a very similar history and a long term teacher who comes here from France about three times a year to hold 5 to 7 day Zen sesshins with our small group. Even though some people think of Buddhism as a religion, I really don't look at it so much that way, but certainly a spiritual practice compatible with my views on Christ's teachings. I value my studies and practice very highly in my life.

Jude, long road trip! What type of vehicle do you snowbirds travel in? I would enjoy that too, but only in good weather. ha

Roberta, as the matriarch of our team I am sure you have much to teach the rest of us! Glad you are with us. You sound on the more youthful side in your posts.

Jen, Do take care of those bruised ribs.

Jo, I know what you mean about housework getting out of hand and what a blessing to have found a good cleaner!

Lew, I know what you mean about the legs not handling the time away from the gym very well. Im having the same experience now that I am getting back to walking more and finding walking in the sand makes me feel my loss of core strenth in my legs. Not a good feeling and have determined to keep walking and using other tools to overcome that.

Saturday, so wiith DH home today we will figure out a few things that need to be done, I'm sure. Great day all, Mel

Good evening Ladies. Today has been a quiet one and I got to the Y this afternoon. We haven't gone in 2 weeks but now that the bathroom is finished I had to get back on schedule. My legs didn't handle the layoff well. I had to cut the workout short because of my legs getting too tired. One thing that contributed to that was that I started working the elliptical trainer into my workout and that works the muscles in the upper leg a lot. It's going to take some time to build up my time on the elliptical. I did some minor repairs on the boat electrical system and then my fishing buddy Dumont and his wife walked down to see the bathroom. They stayed and visited for about a half hour and then it was dinner time.

Jo, I find the Sparkpeople website very aggravating. If I use the Chrome browser it constantly has problems. I use Internet Explorer and I still have pages freeze up on me and the way it operates is cumbersome and slow.

Jen, I spent a lot of time in Maryland. When I was stationed at Patuxent River Naval Air Station I hunted ducks on the banks of the Chesapeake and sailed on it when I was at the Naval Academy. The Chesapeake is beautiful.

Gloria, I'm thinking that the calendar is merely a prediction and the seasons change at different places on a different timetable.

Marielle, tendonitis is painful and it can take a long time to heal. Ice is good treatment for it.

Jude, that's a long drive and I know how tiring it can be. It always takes me a couple of days to recover after a long drive like that. Glad you got home safely.

Roberta, you do a heck of a lot for an 88 year old. Keep up the good work.

Have a great day everyone.

well, read all the posts and you all seem to be very busy - here everything has slowed down. we have and are still having very strange weather. however temps still very high mid 90's and up. very uncomfortable. you never know what to expect from one minute to another.

Wed. it looked a little clear so decided to do some shopping as my food was getting very low. fortunately I went to Target and surprisingly had added other items so I really stocked up and have enough for the next few days. so strange to see empty store. the cashier said they were not busy and I noticed they had only 3 cashiers and the lines not long.

we still have many snowbirds here but most from the states with the terrible weather.

I am not feeling well at all - my sinus giving me lots of trouble and just not feeling up to par.

however, I think I mentioned that I met someone in the laundry room who did house cleaning. she came yesterday and worked for 5 hours - my apt. was a mess - I hate any type of house cleaning and not feeling too well anyway, you can imagine what my apt. needed. she did a great job and will come every 2 weeks.

it is getting close to my so called yearly checkup. since I went on Medicare only have trouble. Thank God I am in good health and since I have to pay part of DR. fee and if I go all they do is check heart and I guess lungs at least that is what I think thy do. still trying to get AARP health plan. and trying to get an agent to call.

strange years ago Medicare paid for everything but now we have to pay foe just about all.

it is getting late - finally made a cup of white tea. think I need it. it's a good thing I am not a drinker as this is all too much for me to handle for myself.

take care everyone -

JO
