While you begin to feel better going off sugar in processed foods, as you go to clean eating~~are their any side effects for a while of going off the sugar?

I am a vegan but that doesn't always mean I eat healthy. I would really like to go with eating clean though to be more healthful. I find keeping track of my food intake on the nutrition tracker is helpful because I hate to write in bad things I eat. I think from what I've heard from all of you that I will begin to feel better if I can stick to this. Thanks!
My problem is that I know what is in all that stuff and I don't want it in my diet but a lot of times I "fall off the wagon". I have such a craving for chocolate and sugar I don't know how to get past that. I try to keep the stuff out of the house but my dh isn't that supportive. He thinks this kids should have treats like other "normal" kids. Then I wind up eating the stuff.
It is horrible all the stuff that is in out food and so many people have no idea about it. The US came out with the new food pyramid last year but they didn't do anything to educate people about what types of ingredieants to look for and avoid. In this country a peron has to take it upon themselves to become educated and make the right choices, and also to teach that to our children as there is nothing in school that teaches clean eating.
The other thing about personal care products is that many are tested on animals. Usually if they are not it will say so on the labels. We need to take care of ourselves and the animals too.
Yes, they have much stricter laws in Europe! And it isn't just our food...it is our personal care products as well. I was disgusted when I learned what was in main stream personal care products...they can't use those ingredients in Europe...which is why I'm glad the products I use are formulated in Switzerland!
it's discusting!!! fructose( fruit sugar), syrup, dextrose ( corn sugar), maltose, lactose ( milk sugar), pretty much anything ending with *ose is sugar. ( the * indicates anything it's an outdated form of computer speak, my apologies for using it, but it's the only way I don't have to grab the book and type EVERYTHING as there is alot)...
Then the preservatives, I'm NOT ready to touch that one LOL!!! Ah well, it pays to be an educated consunsumer.

It is very surprising how much sugar is in our foods. It not right. I have a friend who moved to Europe 1 1/2 yrs ago and she was just in shock to see how different the food is from USA to over there. If you checked it out, USA has the highest percentage of diabetes, heart disease, cancers...I'm a firm beliver its the crap that gets put into our foods, that and we are a fast food nation. Our bodies dont know how to break down the chemicals that get tossed into our "food" I use the word food loosely!
Give it some time, I think your hubby will come around. I'm very lucky in that it has been my husband wanting to eat this way I was the one that just wasn't all there with it....now I'm a beliver.
For one I've lost 3 pounds this week and my scale hasn't moved in a VERY LONG time....months and months and months. I feel better, my skin looks better, more energy I feel good. Maybe once your hubby see's this in you maybe he'll start to think differently.
good luck tracy

Yep, found this out years ago when we found out my son was allergice to high fructose corn syrup...it is in everything. They put sugar in everything to make it taste "better" and to get you addicted!
Below is a cookie you may want to try...I made them for Christmas so I had something to snack on!
It will get easier and your family will come around...just hang in there! Make it a great day! Lisa
Cranberry Almond Oatmeal Cookies
1 cup canned pumpkin 3/4 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla 1.5 cups whole wheat flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp cinnamon .5 tsp salt 3 cups rolled oats 1 cup dried cranberries .5 cup chopped almonds
Heart oven to 350 degrees. Beat together pumpkin and brown sugar. Add eggs, vanilla and beat well. Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Mix. Stir in oats, craisins and almonds. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes
I'm so ANGRY!!!! I realize it's not healthy to be this upset, it's just that I've been reading food lables in an effort to rid our home ( OK at least MY body as dh isn't on board yet for clean eating) of sugar in processed foods ( YES I'd LOVE to rid the house of ALL processed foods, but dh isn't interested in that YET -- so I have to wait till it's gone as I'm the one who does most of the shopping).... So here I am reading the bbq sauce that dh LOVES --- SUGAR in ketchup, bbq sauce, salad dressing, yogurt ( the stuff the kids like - I make my own & add honey as a sweetner if I 'need' it).... It seems I can't find anything 'easy' to make without sugar or MSG... I'm responsible for making a baked good for tommorrow's MOPS meeting and I can't even find a recipe or adapt a recipe for sugarless, TASTEFUL muffins... Maybe I'll just bring homemade bread with jam (clean jam is possible - if lemons are clean that is - I made the jam myself - so I know it's sugarfree)... I am angry at the fact the EVERYTHING ( OK maybe I'm exaggerating here) has sugar in it... I'm angry that dh won't let me get rid of it all, he sees doing this as a waste of his hard earned monies... I do apologize for the rant, I'm so confused right now. I want to eat clean 90% of the time ( I do go out monthly with the ladies and on occasion with dh, and I do enjoy that dark chocolate on occasion and I want to be realistic with my lifestyle so the change can be permanent)... I hate to end on a negative note so I do have to say that the kids loved the fish, couscous and green beans I made lastnight - oh and check your spice labels, one of the premixed spices I intended on using lastnight ( but didn't) had you guessed it SUGAR, in it... But the kids did eat EVERYTHING on thier plates lastnight, a clean night for the kids and a sucess for mom. I hope to be able to encourage my little ones to eat clean more often than just at home...
