That is such awesome news MIMAWELIZABETH. Isn't it awesome to be back in control of your life! I am glad you were able to fit in your goals while in Las Vegas! I planned and journaled daily while we were in Seattle and with all the walking I feel I was uber successful over the weekend! We can do it!

I walked the circuit of my neighborhood after dinner. It was a pleasant walk and about 4000 steps. Its not the 10,000 I am shooting for or the 5000 I said I'd start with but it was better than sitting home on my behind. It felt good. Remind me to enjoy the outdoors more often. (Today was the first nice weather after a month of 90 degrees plus!)

You took the words right out of my mouth!!! I started to ST today,
and my arms are so so SO sore... emoticon emoticon


I'll tell you what I did - it's NOT a perfect solution, maybe not even a good solution; but I didn't give up or do nothing, so I'm telling myself I done good! Plus, I could really feel the "pull" in my muscles, so I'm sure it was productive. I didn't use the free weights, but did the movements of the strength training, plus a good stretch of my neck and back. I didn't do a "full" ST set, but moved through the range several times, and I'll repeat it several times throughout the afternoon. Tomorrow, back to the gym to use the pool, so I'll see how my arms feel then.


I weighed in today for the Summer Challenge team I'm on, and you'd be proud... I DIDN'T drop kick the scale out of the bathroom!
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I didn't sleep well last night, and that adversely affects my weigh-in number; plus, with the change in my schedule - more food than usual, but lots more exercise too - who knows WHAT my "real" weight is right now! I'll weigh again tomorrow, AFTER a good night's sleep. I have been losing steadily - slowly, very slowly, but steadily each week - on the challenge.

I'll believe the scale once I get back to my "usual" routine... EXCEPT! I told DH in Vegas, I want to keep up this level of activity when I get home...

And that takes me right back to the first line of this post! emoticon

Hello from Vegas! I signed up for the internet here at the hotel room, because I just HAD to enter my food on the tracker...! Used to be writing it down on paper and entering it later was enough, but now I like using the tracker too much to skip it.

It's also been great for entering fitness too - and I've been busy busy busy! I've been working on my arms, and have figured out how to incorporate more arm exercises into my daily routine. Told DH too, that strengthening my arms is my September challenge!

Click on "my tools" and then "start". In approximately the middle of the page on the left it has "my tools" and the 3rd category under that is "weigh-in & other". Hope that helps you find it. I always have trouble remembering where it is so if you don't find it you can type in "weigh-in measurements" on the spark search and it should also bring it up. If you have trouble let me know and I'll try to explain it again better.

Definitely ready. When I went on to enter my measurements they were higher from the last time about a year and a half ago so guess that means now is the time. I got the Spark book and have been reading it and I am really glad I bought it. It has a lot of helpful tips. Good luck to everyone!

1. lose inches especially from waist
2. greater endurance
3. get off meds
4. dr visit for high blood pressure, other; follow up visit at end of month

HOW I WILL DO IT
1. basic 5 daily (3 core, 1 waist, 1 bust)
2. cardio 5 day/wk 5000+ steps
3. 5 fruit/veggies
4. work up to 8 glasses of water
5. post this sheet around house for visibility
6. measurements beginning and end of month
7. sparkpeople points daily

HOW I WILL MEASURE SUCCESS
1. 3 inches off waist
2. at least 1 inch elsewhere

4. revisit dr to see if blood pressure has come down

I got my Spark book and have been reading it and formulating my plan too. I've even started part of it, by incorporating exercise into each day. I plan to take my measurements later today so I do let myself get busy and forget during the week. I wish all success this month!

Any exercise you can do that takes into account your disability is good. See your doctor if necessary to figure out what is challenging but not disabling.
Set some goals. I start TODAY!

Hi Rita! I have to be careful with any exercise that involves my hands or arms. Due to my spinal injury, my hands are weak and easily tire; plus, if I use my neck or move my arms too much, they go numb. I have some moves I do in the pool with resistance fans - I'll be sure add them to the mix every time I swim.

I guess that's the biggest part of the problem... since I can't move my arms around in any sustained or aerobic way, or reach far above my head, et al, my back-fat has gotten out-of-control. emoticon emoticon emoticon

BUT, I'll take these baby steps, keep'm going, and make a change! emoticon

This is an excellent way to set up our goals for the challenge!

1. I'm not sure how many inches, because I want to fit into my sundresses (up top), and there's no way for me to measure it in numbers.

2. I will be consistent with strength training, adding the new exercises for upper arms and back, instead of being hit-and-miss with ST like I have been for ever so long.

3. Like Barbie, for me "success" in this challenge is more than just how many inches I lose. IF I stick with the ST schedule, even if I don't reach my goal in #1, I know I will be well on the way toward achieving it as I continue to maintain ST consistency!

Fitting into the dresses will be a HUGE bonus! emoticon emoticon

I am anxious to get started on this, so I think I will set my goals now so I don't forget.

First I want to say that I have not been having a lot of success with the numbers changing for several months so I am starting low.

1. My "inches off" goal is 1 inch off the hips
2. I plan to achieve this goal by incorporating a minimum of 15 minutes walking into each day and doing lower body strength two days a week.
3. My success will be determined only on whether or not I successfully completed my plan of how to achieve the goal, and not by whether or not I lost inches. I can control my actions, but I cannot control the numbers on the scale or the tape measure.

This is perfect for what I'm starting to incorporate into my strength training! Great timing ~ emoticon

I got brave and tried on some of my smaller clothes. I have a few nice sun dresses that I can ALMOST fit into - my hips and all are fine, but the bust area - because of my back fat - is too tight! I decided it was time to work on that specific problem area, and added some resistance band moves... my upper arms have been so sore! That's a good sign, I think! emoticon

Waist or hips- it does not matter. Each of us can personalize where we want to lose, take our measurements on Aug 31 and make a one month challenge to lose x inches. How does that sound?

Sounds good!! How about all the different types of crunches, etc?? I think you can target certain areas with your workout on the fitness page!! Also, there are fitness articles about losing around your abdomen/waist!!
