Pain wasn't too bad. Worse after supper, but surprised me reallly that it wasn't worse. Perhaps the Prevacid prepared the way. I have really tried to avoid anything with tomatoes in it, but my niece made the supper tonight, and so I "had" to eat it! :)

Rather uncomfortable just before supper and then just after supper. I'm not sure, but I think it may be related to a medication I'm on that I take around that time. It could be my body craving that medicine and then assimilating it takes a little time. Seems like I have this almost every day.

Not a very good day! So tired of all this! Reminds me of pain when I finally went to the doctore on 12/8/11 and I was wondering if it was my heart. They determined that it was not. Today when it was at it's worst I took my back knobber and put pressure on pressure points in the area around my shoulder blades. This helped reduce the pain. So wierd!!

2/19/12 Sun
1 cup water with morning med. Pain - 0.
BREAKFAST: 1/4 Apple Fritter, Low acid orange juice, 1/2 cup; Herbal Tea 1 cup; Sugar, 1 tsp;
COFFEE-MATE (Creamer) - 1 individual serving; GNC Calcium Citrate Plus Dietary Supplement (1 tablet), GNC Women's Ultra Mega Dietary Supplement (1 tablet), 1 serving. PAIN - .5
SNACK IN CHURCH: 1 wintogreen piece of candy. PAIN - 0
LUNCH: Applesauce, sweetened, 0.25 cup; Asparagus, fresh cooked, 9 spears medium (5-1/4" to 7" long); 1 1/2 cup Mashed Potatoes; Beef Gravy, 1.3 cup; Beef roast, 4 oz; Orange Peach Mango Juice, 8 oz. PAIN - 1.5 to 2.
SNACK IN CHURCH: 1 wintogreen piece of candy. PAIN - 0
SNACK BEFORE SUPPER: 1 1/2 pieces of rice krispie treats, 1 cup coffee with 1 tsp sugar. PAIN .5
SUPPER: 1 Previcid, 3 english muffin pizza burgers (made with my sister-in-law's homemade spaghetti sauce, ground beef & cheese), 1 oz potato chips, 3/4 cup Royal Strawberry Gelatin, 1/2 cup coffee. another Previcid. PAIN - .5 and the 0 before bed.

I was SO SCARED when I saw what my sister-in-law was going to serve for supper that I took 1 prevacid before I ate and another afterwards. I remember how PAINFUL it was when I had salsa and I'm told tomato sauces and stuff made with tomatoes make GERD worse. I was glad that I could eat what I did and have no pain. I think I will have that handy on Sunday nights when we go to their house (we almost always go there - so nice of them and we so enjoy it, but the food sometimes scares me - like tonight. Also sometimes the food is very fattening. Oh well! My sis-in-law has a skinny husband and thin children to feed.)

A lady at the rec. center was telling me that she has esophagitis and that years ago an alternative medicine physician told her to take cyanne (SP) pepper for it and that it helps. I'm going to ask her more about this. I would think it would have to be in pill form from the health food store. I'm leary because of the reaction I had with salsa (mild salsa), but maybe it's the acidity in the salsa that I react to?

Thanks CUTIEDOOTS for the feedback! I neglected to say that the orange juice I've been drinking is LOW ACID. I think I'll try coffee/tea without the creamers. I learned I can't eat salsa as it sent me through the roof in pain (and it was mild).

2/3/12
NOTE: Took 2 laxative pills last night. Had 2 GOOD bowel movements. It's been almost 2 weeks that I've had none or very small ones. I think this affects GERD.
1 cup water before breakfast
BREAKFAST: Scrambled Egg no milk or additives, 1 large, English Muffin, 1 pat butter salted, 1/2 cup Low acid orange juice, 1 cup Coffee, Calcium Supplement. Pain 1.5-1
SNACK: Butter (1/8 pat) on 1/2 slice banana bread, 1 cup coffee,1 tsp sugar, 1 1/4 tsp coffeemate creamer, Hazelnut. Pain 2.
EXERCISING: 2 pieces candy. 3 cups water. Pain 1.5
SNACK: 1 cup tea, 1 tsp creamora, 1 1/2 tsp sugar. Pain 2
LUNCH: Orange. Tortilla chips & veggie dip. Pain 1
SUPPER: 1 baked chicken breast, 1 1/4 cup mashed potatoes, 1 cup sugared slightly buttered carrots, 1/4 cup sweet homemade applesauce. Pain 2.
SNACK: 1 cup chocolate moose tracks ice cream. Pain 2. Going down.

MUCH BETTER DAY THAN YESTERDAY!

I have been looking over what you are eating and it seems like a lot of acid and fat. If I drink orange juice, it tears me up, I can eat an orange once in awhile though. Sometimes I think that all the preservatives and additives they put in packaged foods bothers me. Coffee has a lot of acid in it, and I limit myself to 1 cup a day and use non-fat milk in it, no non-dairy creamers, once again a lot of additives. I am an avid nutrition label reader when I grocery shop and stay away from high fat and sodium items. I don't eat a lot of citrus fruit or tomato sauces, another trigger, or creamy soups or sauces. There are a lot of websites out there with infomation on trigger foods and doing elimination diets to find out what you can eat that won't trigger acid relux. It takes time to figure it out but it is well worth it not to feel lousy all the time.

BREAKFAST: 1/2 cup Orange Juice, 1/5 of my husband's Apple Fritter, My medicine & vitamins, Cup of Coffee, Single serving of Coffeemate, 1 tsp. sugar (level). My pain was 0 because it only bothered me when I took time to think about it.

CHURCH: Candy. Then we had communion (Little piece of bread and little bit of wine). Pain 0.

SNACK AFTER AM CHURCH: 3 pieces of celery. Pain went up to a 3, then was going down.

LUNCH: 1 1/8 cup mashed potatoes, 1 cup buttered spinach, 1/4 cup sweetened applesauce, 1% milk 1 cup, 5 oz. beef roast. Pain .5. 3 hrs later pain up to 3.5.

SNACK DURING CHURCH: Piece of candy. Pain 3.5 - 4. (Maybe it's because I didn't take my 5PM medication on time though).

SUPPER: Took my medication just before going to my brother's house for supper. Coffee, creamora, sugar, banana bread with peanut butter. Then had main course - egg and ham casserole, orange gelatin (1/4 cup) with centrella cool whip (2 tbsp), 1/2 buttered english muffin & 1 cup grapefruit sections (peeled by my brother). Pain 3 then down. Right now barely noticable. I think that banana bread with peanut butter helps.

BREAKFAST: Orange Juice, 0.5 cup, Regular Coffee, 1 cup (8 fl oz), Peanut Butter, smooth style, 1 tbsp, Banana bread, 1 slice, Granulated Sugar, 1 tsp., COFFEE-MATE (Creamer) - 1 tub (11 ml), 1 serving - Pain .5 and then down to 0 about an hour later!!! :)

LUNCH: 4 celery sticks, 2 carrots, 2 pieces candy. Pain - 2 then down.

SUPPER: Hamburger pattie (4 oz) on dinner roll, w/relish, tomato, & mayonaise (just a dab). Baked Lay's Potato Crisps (1 1/8 oz, 31.8g. - bag), 1 cup moose tracks ice cream. Pain up to 3, then moved down to almost unnoticable.

Took my medicine around 8:15 and noticed my pain almost immediately went up to an uncomfortable 3. It's going down, but I certainly don't like that. Usually I take this med with supper...

Bkfst - 1 slice banana bread with 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 cup coffee, coffee mate, sugar. Pain was up to 3 so I took 1/3 tsp baking soda with 1/2 cup water. Went down to a 1 and then .5.

Lunch - 2 ounces pork steak (sprayed pan w/olive oil, browned, then added water until tender), 1 cup mashed potatoes, 1 1/4 cup cooked cauliflower, 1/4 cup sweetened applesauce, 1 cup 1% milk. Pain 2 a little after eating. Went slowly down to 0!

Snack - 1 med banana & 1 cup low acid orange juice. Pain went up to 3 right afterwards. It's slowly going down I think. Took a little more baking soda before church. Pain 2 before church went down during church (perhaps distracted helped).

Dinner - 2 raw celery strips, 2 chocolate chip cookies, 2 cups coffee, 1 slice banana bread with peanut butter, 1 chicken/chicken soup mixed with it sandwich, 1 1/2 oz potato chips, 1 cup lime gelatin, 2 tbsp centrella cool whip topping. Pain 3.5 but going down.

I'd like everyone to record food eaten and then report on their pain levels afterwards using the pain scale below*. Usually I can tell about 45min to an hour later what level of pain I am up to. ALSO record too when you think you have overeaten and the pain afterwards (as this affects pain to0).

I'm hoping this may help us choose food more wisely.

0- No pain.
1- Hurts a little bit.
2-Mild Pain is present but does not limit activity.
3-Hurts even more.
4-Can do most activities with rest periods.
5-Moderate (Hurts little more)
6-Unable to do some activities because of pain.
7- Hurts a whole lot.
8-Severe. Unable to do most activities because of pain.
9-Hurts worse.
10-Excruciating. Unable to do any activites because of pain.
