Dot, the same thing happens to me when I take capsules too. This is a tough fight for me. Whenever I drink Ensure as a meal replacement, it causes all types of problems. If I drink it and nothing else that day, I'm okay. I will make a vegetable soup and a taco soup. I cannot wait to eat soup again. Cooked or steamed vegetables seems to digest well, so far.

The only time I get that sliding back up feeling is when I've eating too much or I'm doing a lot of bending, lifting, or putting pressure on my stomach. Did you ever find out what it was?

When I eat certain foods (like rice) or take pills (like a capsule) the food or pill will slide back up my throat. It's like I try to swallow it but it won't stay down. Sometimes I choke on water! It's embarrassing! But I can't find information on it.

I told my nurse practitioner, who I can't stand, and she said to chase it with a banana. Uhm, okay? But that doesn't help either. She said it's normal and walked out. No explanation or anything.

I've searched online for anything about it but I can't find anything. Is this related to my GERD? And if so, what can I do about it?
