What matters in my yoga practice, for me, is finding that feeling of calm, powerful centeredness and control (in terms of my breathing, my body, etc.). Yoga helps ground me and helps me step away from the stress and rush of the rest of my life for a bit.

Great solution candlelight Yoga for a dark morning! Enjoy! THEO0025

Some people are early risers others are not. The best time to Yoga practice in my humble opinion is when it fits your schedule and your mood. I like what you wrote SUGARBUNNIE1577: "in the early evening to mellow out". Enjoy!

My mp3 is a harsh, slow-moving, "classic-style"-studio-experience-replicat
ing practice ... with a lot of rough edges (as I'd put it together myself). Coping with the commute in this iced up, blizzard-y weather ... I had nothing left last night. NOTHING. I ditched the plan to do the mp3. Geographically, some folks are screwed this time of year.

I would not recommend this to everybody, but back-to-back I'd done the entire Dolphina Warrior Goddess Workout, and then the Oliver Reinsch Feel Good Yoga Core Power ... it's all about yoga-cardio fusion when there is too much winter and mild Seasonal Affective Disorder on my plate ...

The cardio (the first one was a belly dance dvd) keeps the much needed mental speed going. Good spillover effects to my WORK!

THEO0025, I know how hard it is to get out of bed this time of year when it's still dark, but I can only imagine that it's harder to do in Alaska! Don't get me wrong... it looks beautiful and I'd like to visit some day, but I've always had a hard time with getting up any earlier than I have to, and naturally it's harder in the winter when it's still dark out. And that's in Wisconsin!

I like to do my Yoga practice after work to unwind from the day, but I can see where it would be beneficial to start the day with Yoga too. Right now I'm trying to focus on cardio in the morning to get me going, and Yoga in the early evening to mellow out.

I value space and grace. To meet myself where I'm at on any given day--inspired, down, stressed, feeling strong or feeling weak. Some days that means to push myself, somedays that means to let myself just fall out. Or both. No matter what, I feel that in my yoga practice I can become grounded and balanced again.

I just moved to Alaska, where now it's dark. A lot. And so now every morning before work, I wake to do to candle light yoga. As a way to embrace the darkness and let it be ok. It helps me get out of bed in the morning on these cold, dark winter mornings! :) emoticon

" just to try something different. "

15 degrees over here ... boss closed up shop a half hour early ... got home just a little while ago, though - stopped briefly on my several-leg commute ... Boss is doing a sleepover with his significant other close by the office ...

Well, to some extent everybody's lives online are masked on a continuum from "my life is an 'open book (e-book ?)" all the way to "I'm in the Witness Protection Program" ...

You can't be too careful in this age of bitcoin (at least here in NYC) ...

I decided, for my part, to go where I skew overqualified across the board: SparkCafe ... why I hold yoga people to a higher standard is up for discussion ... I need a real community and cannot $$-wise/timewise afford one ... I need a virtual community and timewise cannot afford one ...

Yup, I will take what I can get - where I expect to get what I get ...

The purpose of the Yoga Team is to share our love for Yoga, through our experience when we practice it, because what one can experience can help another with what is happening in his/her practice.

The team doesn't intend to know our lives, I am sure most of us are having problems, health problems, money problems, relationship problems, but still what brought us together is our love for practicing Yoga. It is a window where we can leave our problems behind and concentrate in ourselves, to be in the present moment doing something for our body and mind.

Some members do Yoga it to lose weight, some to find a balance in their body and mind, others just because is in fashion, others just to try something different. As a team we should be respectful of the members and their goal for practicing Yoga.

I like the definition of Team, it transcends a group... Let's share our love for Yoga and go beyond who goes to an studio or if someone is more or less how he/she presents himself/herself. That it is not important in our Team, our love for Yoga IS. Let's grow our practice and find the right balance between our body and mind.

Khalil Gibran said:

Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the ATTITUDE you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind LOOKS at what happens.

You avoid telling us who you are.

For all I know you could be an academic researcher or a vagrant posing as something you're not.

Team is composed of full people.

Even iff you live in California and are supported by a famous movie star/significant other ... couldn't your life be a blind item full of hints as to who you are?

I don't HATE celebrities. But my only regular exposure to any of them is Robin Roberts in the mornings ...

Yoga Lovers TEAM - The definition of team according to Wikipedia:

A team comprises a group of people or animals linked in a common purpose. Teams are especially appropriate for conducting tasks that are high in complexity and have many interdependent subtasks.

A group in itself does not necessarily constitute a team. Teams normally have members with complementary skills and generate synergy through a coordinated effort which allows each member to maximize his/her strengths and minimize his/her weaknesses. Team members need to learn how to help one another, help other team members realize their true potential, and create an environment that allows everyone to go beyond their limitations.[1] A team becomes more than just a collection of people when a strong sense of mutual commitment creates synergy, thus generating performance greater than the sum of the performance of its individual members.

And you afford an upscale yoga studio... how?

Are you working? Do you have 3 roommates?

Just curious. You state nothing about how you afford constant studio yoga practice ..

I am not a stalker.

If you are a pilates teacher the most I will do is steal your moves.

I work full time in admin support to make an inventor's life easier.
Have a lengthy commute to and from work, caretaking issues (of an elderly geographically convenient relative), live alone in expensive New York City.
Not in a bed-bug-ridden hotel in a rotten neighborhood--because I am not young; but had been priced out of living in a neighboring locale before it turned all yupscale ...
My motivation to do yoga ?
Flagging ... due to needing other things ...
But I do it at home ...

But ... doctor advised no more pilates classes ...

My yoga practice is an integral part of my survival. Post brain injury, heavy PTSD, what I wrote about, this daily practice of breath and meditation through the body, all to help me quiet my mind and be in the present, is keeping me alive.

Well, maybe not the team. Maybe any and all challenges. I just read PUNCHIE's comment to someone about yoga Retreats.

She is keeping it real, even if nobody else around here is disclosing as I am.

I left a yoga team where everybody introduced everything about themselves to everybody else; but they did not contribute much after that.

Sparrows do things shallowly, but they are at least active ...

Why does it seem that everyone around me does not have a paid-for, outside the home job? Or responsibilities?

or money worries? I think that's reason enough to get off this team. Not needing cardio too much for a yoga team.

Am I living in the Himalayas all of a sudden?

What has really mattered for me in my yoga practice is learning to be in the present. I attempt to shut off my thoughts, they being entirely made up of the past and the future, and to be right here, right now. Creating a consistent flow of breath is an incredible vehicle for being able to be in the present. The asanas themselves use my body to quiet my mind. All the physical exertion leads up to savasana, the most difficult part, for me, of the practice. I try to not think and rather to be, to listen, to feel, and to reach stillness.

I AM blaming the entire East Coast ... I used to live in Miami, Florida as a working stiff for 13 years, year-round ... during the best years of my life ... I really don't think they have such hearts of gold down there, either (this had been before redevelopment, but in the years of all that drug money fueling the Gold Coast)

Uh, maybe this is not what they were looking for, but I posted it anyway ... (also see what I had to say in the JANUARY CHALLENGE) ..

"A studio management that I could "manage up". I am primarily a home yoga practitioner. I expect instruction and not a co-dependent relationship to be undertaken. That would be even if I had the time and the cash, which I don't. Of course, being a fairly well managed diabetic for the past year only helps in that regard. But a savvy consumer should not have to be infirm to get treated well in the commercialized East Coast yoga world. "
