As a woman who is on there in years, who medically can't do inversions anymore, and who needs cardio a LOT more than she needs yoga because of Diabetes Type 2 ... it strikes me about the differing orientations between old-school (or any school) aerobic dance and yoga.
Can you imagine if power yoga classes took from the "Jackie Sorensen lineage" ... and became all mild, Shiva Rea-inspired, (perhaps to YOU PURISTS) slightly insipid aerobics-infused - without CLEAR progression - classes. And yet was taught in an actual studio and not some crowded (even if upscale) gym?
Then there would be no backlash ...
And the yoga studio managers would not try to get to you take (3 classes a day if you want)
As my days of taking (dance-classes-only) come to an end at the more-yoga-centric The Nameless Studio, where all this controversy started - by the way - it strikes me as to WOW - okay the yoga classes I now take at Spencer -two blocks away, are similar carriage-trade prices ... but the forgiving expiration date on the class pack, the at-home cross-conditioning ability, and how forgiving the practice generally is; and even with the drawbacks (I'd gotten similar bursitis injury early on at my OTHER elbow, but it was much milder and went away in weeks not years) ... and yeah, I do keep running into him and his wife in the neighborhood ... and they want me the hell in class ...
works for ME!!
