6/15 Gentle Hatha yoga #1 from yoga download. this is the 5th time I've done this one, so I'm becoming very familiar with the sequence, and I'm really enjoying seeing the changes I'm noticing as I go along. I feel like my hips may actually open up at some point in half pigeon if I keep it up!

Day 5 of the Chopra/Oprah challenge too.

Day 4 of the Chopra/Oprah challenge yesterday. No yoga

Will go for a run in a bit, and do the Hatha and meditation afterward....for some reason, I woke up with a lot of energy, but it seems to have left, and now I'm just tired....

CAROLJEAN, did you ever get hold of the SharQui video(s) - for your day off?

I remember your asking about it.

I did some stretches for warm-up/cool-down last night in with my cardio belly dance (with a little Bollywood thrown in ... I plan to ease out of Masala Bhangra, which isn't exactly for me) session to non-instructional NEW audio CD ... maiden voyage on this ...

As far as yoga is concerned, this dance-exercise session is NO Leilainia !

Leilainia is by far, not the best belly dance video instructor... but unless you wanna go Rachel Brice/tribal fusion style, she's got plenty of yoga in her video!

As usual I did my Adamantine guided self practice this morning, followed by 15 minutes of swimming in my friend's pool. This afternoon I did my first subbing for a maternity leave leading a guided self practice. I can't believe how much I have learned not just in my teacher training, but in the six months of daily practice I have done.

CAROLJEAN, I agree with you on the asanas not being ends in themselves—but, ironically in my case—this came after I eschewed a breath-oriented focus, in favor of a focus on agility, grace and balance ... and the space BETWEEN the poses, and the ethereal space BETWEEN the breaths ... kind of like a surfer waiting, watching and observing - before he/she catches that perfect wave ...

The Master Swami's initially confusing instructions in Nada Yoga, I'd reinterpreted to mean: focus on the cadence - wait out that space of silence - BETWEEN incantations ....

Continuing my 6 AM Adamantine practice. Every day feels better. Today I realized a huge shift in my attitude.... the asanas are a means to an end, not the goal itself.

73 minutes slightly abbreviated S.E.A. change ... it encompassed less pilates than usual ... peak pose was anticlimactic ... after 6 years regular practice, figured out the secret of holding tree pose (vrksasana) for the very first time ... with the arms stretching to the ceiling for the very first time (and pinpoint focus DESPITE not getting a full night's sleep) ... I don't think it's my changed body; but then again, I do ... because I was too weak to get into urdhva dhanurasana (wheel) despite being able to get into reclined hero's pose ... thinking that everything got skinny enough for my joints to move, but then thinking, "who GIVES a fig?" ... I'm just an easygoing mild-vinyasa student ... let the Ashtangis worry about their bodies ...

You know?

I didn't have the time to do any yoga last night. Fifteen minutes of walking ... which I naturally turn to as exercise, anyway ... that's it ... for the entire jam-packed, overscheduled day!

I am seeming to test the hypoglycemic side of normal, only on mornings after I don't do yoga. No time for the 10K or the 10k in my life! On mornings after I do yoga, I test in the high normal range these days.

So, my yoga is not cardio as far as blood glucose lowering, is concerned.

I'd count any yoga I'd do ... it's that crucial. There may not be a lot of it ...

I'm on a cardio challenge in No Gyms Needed, another team I'm on ...

My motto is: Yoga? Cardio Belly Dance? They're don't hold a candle to Walking ...

A life where your most favorite exercise can't be fit in ...
But, when it comes to Nada Yoga, meditation, kirtan - all that stuff (preferably done in a group now and then ... ) ... I'm in danger of forgetting about exerce ...!

I'm going to shoot for 15 sessions this month, I did one on the 1st, so 1/15 done, at Grand Teton Nat'l Park, we poached a grassy area at the Jackson Lake lodge, but tried to keep out of the main area so we wouldn't be in the way....not a lot of places to practice around there!

I'm home now so will be able to get back to some kind of routine. But with my running training I need to scale back the yoga a bit or I'll end up with no time for anything else!

I have signed up for the Chopra/Oprah challenge, starts tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to that too!

83 minutes vinyasa yoga/pilates fusion ... it kicked my butt ... I almost made it into Eka Pada Koundinyasana II ... moved further enough into the pose on my right side (the side with the longitudinally looser hip joint, bringing up the rear of this pose ... and my Kurmasana is further along ... arms felt unusually strong for a change ... and that's the real reason why ... [this is an arm balance; and NO, my current teacher does not teach arm balances although I've seen her after class break into one or two

... and YES, my home practice is not as mild as my studio practice - JUST like at the hippie studio, but WITHOUT the curve balls, though I am certain The Cool Yogini has changed her tune, but I would much rather not take yoga over there anymore ... JUST their meditation sessions

... to learn fancy-ass poses is NOT the reason I've been going to a yoga studio - except for about a year or so after the ambush, and temporarily, at that ... but one DOES advance (in the physical practice) after years if their practice inclines them ... whether at home, self led or not; or at a studio, self-led or not ...]

Remember, I do NOT do any Inversions ... yet, I can still advance (in the physical practice)

My yoga teacher (current), has a heart condition and has recovered from a badly injured hip joint (at her young age!), teaches fast-moving vinyasa yoga with a therapeutic edge ...

Yoga (and yoga-pilates fusion, of course) pulled in ahead of Masala Bhangra dance. It is now 3rd from the top, in a tie with Cardio Belly Dance ...

... I did not mean it ...

I did not like how I tried to pick my dance teacher's brain, right after class ... I was asking her about "filmi dance" and about the Bollywood dance forms and all sorts of questions, as if she were an expert football coach and I was asking football strategy questions ...

I also did not like how I needed to pop a glucose tab after the Masala Bhangra class ... only the desk manager at The Nameless saw this ... I am against tightest blood sugar control of my diabetes for hereditary reasons [it's bad enough that I became a low-carbing omnivore again ... I let The Nameless know, in no uncertain terms, that I could not follow their as-close-to-vegan-as-possible agenda anymore ... they recently tried to reassure me that they'd dropped it ...]

Anyway, I don't think she was disturbed by the 3rd degree. But *I* was ...

I didn't do any yoga last night, just a pose here and there thrown in, as part of the sequence in my Masala Bhangra (Indian high-intensity cardio dance class) last night.

There was a former women's basketball player dancing next to me ... she took up half the dance floor with her moves; and, obviously was enjoying herself.

When I said, back at the Main Message Boards some place, that Masala Bhangra was neck-and-neck with yoga in terms of "movement/workout I preferred to do" - NOT my favorite, but tied for fourth-from-the-top (the #1 movement modality, walking - I DO NOT GET TO DO!!) ... along WITH YOGA - not totally based on cardio effectiveness, btw ...

My August challenge is to be more consistent with my yoga practice. I only recently started yoga in June and have graduated to doing yoga at least 3-5x a week in July.

I am scheduling in 45 min yoga sessions daily, and perhaps even increase the # of sessions per day to two. I find yoga helps calm my PTSD and breathe and focus better.

Namaste.

I'm going to get back to doing my Yoga practice at least twice a week and I'm also participating in the Meditation challenge.

Minimum 15 minutes ... that is fabulous!

With the style of yoga (rather, yoga fusion) I do, even if I don't swap out the pranayma portion for belly dance downloads as a warmup ... 15 minutes represents half the prologue--not even the warm-up--the prologue -- to the practice!

As for August, love those loooooong months!

Yes, I will do the challenge ... no guarantee that I will TAKE A LIVE CLASS (seems to be a bit of an aspiration around heaayah!) -- Despite living in New York City, I, too, live in a yoga-sparse zone [my bank account does] .... like I may have alluded to before, I did purchase a class pack in yoga [finally - this comes after 18 months of totally doing yoga at HOME! in the four walls - after dipping my toes a little at Spencer's studio (Yes! If I like you, I will state your real name for the press!) .... and no small selling point in that is its GENEROUS EXPIRATION DATE]

"Apart from the spiritual goals the physical postures of yoga are used to alleviate health problems, reduce stress and make the spine supple in contemporary times. Yoga is also used as a complete exercise program and physical therapy routine".

What does Yoga do for you?

Time to set your goal for the Yoga and Meditation practice.

There is no better time than now to commit yourself to a Yoga and Meditation practice

All are welcome!!!!
