Fixed my typo from before vacation....I had been at 17/18, but I did get another in on Weds morning, my own practice up at the saddle after we tried to head up Middle Teton. I was not feeling well, so we abandoned the effort, and I did some yoga at the campsite before we packed up and headed back down to the Climber's Ranch.

6th practice for the month:

60 minute vinyasa yoga class ... 4 other practitioners in class this time, two of them were men - which, for the neighborhood in which the class is given, is a pretty high percentage for a class that mellow ... but this is in a pilates venue, and that's probably why ...

7/25 16/18 yoga download, gentle evening practice

7/27 17/18 yoga download, simple flow practice. (fixed earlier typo!)

Heading to the Tetons soon for some more climbing, so it's nice to get some relaxing stretching in ahead of that.

I had parts of my sequence juxtaposed. Memory lapse. My music was not out of order, so I exposed different parts of my sequence to different themes, styles, cadences of music on the CD. Turns out it was a happy mistake--so next time I will have the new songs to the sequences while in the right order.

Maybe a really happy mistake, on thinking back, too; I actually got into the splits to the degree I had been able to do 30 years ago in my jazz aerobics days ... maybe my arms can't hold me up in an arm balance of any sort anymore (except side plank and flip dog (hot DOG!...), but somehow my hip openers are coming along ... I always knew I had been underestimated by a certain yoga studio, but until now I was not sure why ...

Anyway, that studio still teaches me dance.
Now will continue to be learning yoga from a pilates instructor ... just like I originally had done ...

7/24 15/18 had some time to do a podcast after work, yin yoga, more pidgeon, but in Yin it's called swan...still good for opening the hips! I did bonus day 6 from the Wild Divine meditation download afterward. Focus on breathing. Very restful!

3/8 of the physical practices

Yesterday 7/15 - but only my arms feel a little twingey and my knees feel sore ... 24 hrs later:

20 minutes Belly Dance Shimmy Workshop (Gillian Cofsky, downloaded from My Yoga Online), 72 minutes my S.E.A. Change vinyasa yoga-pilates fusion ... Before class on the 11th, I had not practiced (physical) yoga for one week (meditation is another story)I

Unusual for The Soulful Yogini, she had not concentrated on corework as much at all, as she usually does when there are frequent, habitual pilates (both mat and machine) students as fellow attendees to her class .. ...

I did the counterpart at home: my yin to her yang ... the practice, even physically, barely less mild than what she taught on the 11th (longer holds in poses require more strength~)

Spiritually, well ... the sky's the limit. the meter's not running for infusing my practice with aromatherapy, meditation, mood-altering music, etc ... emoticon

In class, she had (re)taught me Camatkarasana -- I'd pretty much written that pose off, scant time ago but in memory of struggling with a podcast practice starring that pose, close to 40 pounds (heavier) ago ....

I certainly had forgotten (wanted to forget, as well) how to do that pose: Camatkarasana (a.k.a., Flip Dog, Wild Thing, Rockstar, 3-Legged Inverted Dog, NON-CLASSICAL Transition from Downdog to Wheel), which kinda looks like this emoticon emoticon , but with one leg straight, and maybe 15 - 20% of your body weight on its foot ....

In home practice yesterday, in contrast, instead of for instance Camatkarasana, I'd had Urdhva Dhanurasana (Full Wheel) as my apex pose, following my apex pose sequence ... going for the same effect in each backbend, because I cannot hold wheel for long ...

And instead of all those adjustments she'd provided, I used mental imagery and my signature longer holds to try and replicate the experience, usually in a standing balancing backbend or in parsvakonasana or in a twisting extended parsvakonasana ...

In parsvakonasana (side angle), I found in my home practice, I was finally was able to bind on both sides fully. She'd kept on opening my chest with her adjustments .. but no binds ... just adjustments, in class ...

The effect being she was opening my heart center (4th chakra) ...

7/12 8/18 did another Hulu yoga, fitness yoga, it was pretty challenging, but short, I had done my meditation in the morning, and did the yoga when I got home from work.

7/13 9/18 yoga for flexibility also from Hulu, and another meditation following that.

Tonight I am going to take a satsang ... this is not a physical yoga ... a small bit of meditation, some Nada Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Jnana Yoga are involved ... with kirtan, discussion, a wee bit of encounter group and team-building involved ...

I think the private business world, by the way, could benefit by having nondenominational "satsangs" every now and then ... they already have "corporate yoga"

I probably have never counted such sessions in a monthly challenge or in the Team Goals at bottom, and I am not going to start now ... since I am under the impression that only physical yogas are involved.

That said, with all the dance I do .. may not meet my challenge this month ...

Two things:

Maybe I'm just asking too much ..

and

Maybe it's entropy ... and some venues work with it and some venues don't ... one thing I do know is that I feel sometimes, cardio classes, while never explicitly trying to--seem to functionally meet me where I am ... vinyasa yoga has to catch up a bit in that regard.

Oh, and with MY track record ... if the yoga teacher does not have a shot in Hades of ever teaching me mat pilates (whether classical or Stott, whether potentially or beforehand) ... as three before this approaching yoga teacher have - and in the case of The Soulful Yogini - about ten classes! beforehand ... don't bother applying for the job ...

I even - mistakenly, but I went ahead anyway - had thought my dance teacher is a pilates teacher on the side ...

@PUNCHIE, it greatly affected my Masala Bhangra Workout dance class the next evening ... Being primarily a pilates teacher, The Soulful Yogini (my tagname for her) is a stickler about neck positioning during practice - no, she does not push, in my rather tight-boundary/exceptionally middle-path (from Buddhism) lack of tolerance standards for ANY pushing - BUT the amount of personal attention led to a lot of her pulling and verbals on my cervical spine. THERE WERE NO INVERSIONS involved, so don't go thinking headstands, but the net effect is how I felt after a comprehensive hour-plus practice that included headstand--which I never had done either without a wall or without just doing teddy bear type (half headstand), even if professionally taught (rather few before I actually became too health-compromised tp do ANY inversions--I'm NO VABUTSY, where IS she, by the way? Guess maybe we scared her off ...hoping she isn't history around here ...) -

And the net effect in the pain department the next day seemed similar ...

If you know anything about Bollywood dance, the neck gets very involved (even in the Masala Bhangra interpretation of Bollywood dance), so I was complaining about the wrenched/stiff neck during the (what turned out to be a semi-private) class ...

Add to that, just before this dance class, I was approached again by the yoga teacher as to when I would take the killer yoga class taught by her. And, imagine me--looking like a wraith by now. I also am weak enough, too. Not scary skinny, in part because I have a lot of excess skin. (The flappy batwing top part of my arms should be a dead giveaway to my past of weighing much more, btw).

She told ME I "used to do yoga", and "what happened? We'd been talking about you". Since this is at The Nameless Studio, I very diplomatically told her, "I still do yoga, but at this point, I don't do yoga HERE." And then I wished her a nice rest of the evening.

I felt a little too embarrassed to say that "yoga" caused this pain ..(if questioned, I would have said, doing sports training) because what if my dance teacher (and I take dance only, at The Nameless) could be/become and/or was already, one of the people who could have been "talking about me". Confidentiality about students among teachers is traditionally much less of an issue in the dance world than it ideally should be in the yoga world. Maybe the "rules" go out the window for the yoga world in a commercialized, multi-disciplinary instructional environment!

TINIERTINA thanks for sharing, most of the studios have the same experience during the summer, people out of town, visitors arriving, kids out of school, so the dynamic definitely changes. It was great that you had a "private class". I would have let the instructor know my limitations or health problems, so he/she could adjust the instruction with modified poses, because it is not good to be in pain after any Yoga practice. One easily forgets to listen to our own body every day and be attentive to what can be done. Take care, enjoy!

Oh, incidentally, the adjustments were there, in abundance; and she really went to town with them. But I let her know when pain was involved. Unlike some teachers in my past, the practice was enticing, no discrete elements were present, one move flowed into another. There WAS an apex pose, but there were no long holds; and there was no incentive for the yank-and-crank ...

So, when pain was starting to be involved, it was not so much a matter of being pushed beyond my edge, but my very anatomical limitations (which she respected and accepted) ... and it took only one notice on my part which I verbalized--and she backed off ...

2/8 60 minute vinyasa yoga class taught in the style of Sonic Yoga, but the class was underattended (I was the only student) ... it was taught not in the style of a yoga private session (usually, the practitioner gets to choose the general agenda in the private session--or at least they should) but with the feeling of one ... (there was a lot of personal attention) ... just goes to show what happens when a market for yoga is oversaturated ... post-backlash ...

I would not change much on my own home practice (longer than the 60 minutes' class length of this class) ... because it is still more about strength than agility, even now ... and this practice does influence it ...

Don't for a moment think that if I did this class frequently, if I could afford it, that it addresses my health problems enough to merit heavy rotation .. I do think there is a training effect and that the class is self-limiting in its scope, focus or speed of execution (i.e., it ain't meant to be aerobics or gymnastics) ....

Maybe I'm asking too much, but I would like the best of all possible worlds ...
