Do not relegate shoulder stand to the back of the pack. It is an inversion... I think inversion actually means that your head is higher than your heart. My teacher calls the lotus position with head on the floor an inversion for that reason.
I know what you mean about the mat spray. I finally splurged... actually got myself an early birthday present .... for a Manduka prolife.... which should be the last mat I ever buy.

Keep up those shoulder stands.... I believe in the Queen of Asanas.

Yeah, and I'd done a real shoulderstand for the first time in weeks.

It was great. No blanket needed. My neck was fine this time.

Umm, my bad .. I thought shoulderstand was actually an inversion ... the Queen of Asana, in fact!

..but I guess it should be relegated to assisted-top-of-back-on-floor pose ... if we are talking about flash and hype ...

and I'd become shoulderstand-challenged .. with my circulatory problems ...

Long Live Shoulderstand ...

...and as far as a teacher, CAROLJEAN, I think Integral Yoga lives up to its reputation as a style that resonates with me--it's even influenced my own S.E.A. change, which is a little less killer now (and less a "chore" I dread -- but some of it could be my body weight being less).

The class is pared-down, more gym-style (and thus more reasonably-priced for us not-so-financially-comfortable--we TOO take yoga classes!) than in the stereotypical upscale yoga place ... but I WILL have to bring my Gaiam mat spray emoticon The killer pilates class before this one back to back, wipes off NOTHING ...

[I'd always been afraid of Athlete's Foot. Now that pales in comparison to what my feet could be up against ...]

OK, it was assisted.... however I did a handstand in practice today and it felt GREAT!

Lost 65 lbs and maintained since 2006.

Some long-term ashtanga yogis aspire to mastering primary series, and some want to blow through third.

I could respect that which sounds like you want it all.

I also know that I will have to be practicing twice a week now. (My frequency fell off drastically after mid-January) I have never been this light bodywise and with ability at heart openers ever in my entire yoga life. Including binding and a few other things ...

In my physical (health) condition; however, I have lined up a teacher (Integral) and will go to her class once a week, or at least 3 times a month; making this the most I will have ever relied on live led sessions in the 5-1/2 years of what had been regular practice.

I liked the "im"pure handstands at the end.

In my condition, I probably need the bit of help my teachers told me not to rely on.

Where there's a wall, there's a way ...

I remember two teachers getting me for a few seconds not to lean on the wall in "only" headstand.

My full wheel backbend is flourishing, on the other hand. [I don't let anybody kid me, my having taken 25 pounds off since mid 2012, helps.] I think there seems to be--according to Desiree Rumbaugh--two camps of student yogis who "progress": the arm balancers and the backbenders. I am solidly in the second camp.

I loved looking at all the pictures. But, the pure handstands were the most beautiful and insiring to me. I do an assisted handstand 2-3 times a week in my yoga class. I don't know when I will do one unassisted, but it will eventually happen.
