I did day 5 then day 2 again and day 1, going backwards. I like the slow pace of the practices.

I hope my vata-pitta are balanced by now...lol..the practices are at slow pace , but I end up all sweaty and warm www.yogajournal.com/detox/detoxday1/

I finished last weekend, just the yoga part, I wasn't doing the diet, there were some challenging poses, but overall pretty gentle practices.

I like the idea of it being more of a mental detox, than a physical one. I don't need to just drink a special tea, and limit food to cleanse my mind of thoughts and feelings that may be holding me back.

And the asanas have been fairly gentle, especially compared to the fitness challenge! I did day 3 last night, will try day 4 tonight.

PETALIA what an interesting way to look at things. I see the Fall detox like the Spring cleaning, when one changes seasons, one has to let go of things no longer useful for the next season and also be strong and prepare the body for the new seasonal changes, like the temperature, pollen, dust. I have allergies so I have to be aware.
Thanks for sharing! Take care, I'll be reading the book you recommended very soon. I'll let you know.

Pema Chödrön's Heart Advice for this week:

"THE DETOX PERIOD

When you refrain from habitual thoughts and behavior, the uncomfortable feelings will still be there. They don’t magically disappear. Over the years, I’ve come to call resting with the discomfort “the detox period,” because when you don’t act on your habitual patterns, it’s like giving up an addiction. You’re left with the feelings you were trying to escape. The practice is to make a wholehearted relationship with that. "

Excerpted from: "Living Beautifully with Uncertainty and Change" page 36.

I like that, "...resting with the discomfort" I like that detoxing can be "...when you don't act on your habitual patterns". This sure resonates with me. My own physical health is not so very sturdy right now. Somehow autumn beckons for a sort of 'detox'. I very much like the idea of a thought-based approach. BMCOLLEY, we too, can shed, evolve, and transform.

BMCOLLEY they might think is like the coffee or grapefruit detox, anyways you could practice the asanas, so far the Yoga practices have been very good. The massage to the joints( without oil) I have liked it too, it is like any other massage to improve circulation. Basically is to eat healthy, exercise mindfully and pamper your body. Ayurveda is an alternative medicine not a fad.

KAYOTIC how funny I did the Dosha test and I was also a pitta-vata.

I am waiting for a nay or a yea from one of my physicians. So far, one has said definitely no, one has said yes, I am waiting for the last physician to break the tie.

I took the dosha quiz the other day, was surprised I was mostly Pitta, but also Vata to some extent.

I did the asana practice, I'm skipping the diet part, I feel like I eat pretty well, and I'll just focus on cutting out the processed food as much as possible, and see how that goes.

Bravo for all of us. The advantage is to be able to do it at our own pace and convenience!

Let's take the opportunities when they present themselves and make them our own!!

Namaste!

I signed up too but I am nervous and hesitant. Previously, I signed up for Yoga Journal's September Fitness Challenge only to have some serious health difficulties arise and I couldn't partake. I'm still having my own wellness challenges but I don't want to not do the things of life and living. I guess I'll modify and do what I can.

I signed up, but won't be able to start until after my sister's visit is over. I may even wait until the beginning of November, since I am spending the last two weeks of October going off my anti-depressant.
