My first goal for July was to do 21 consecutive days at least for a minimum of 30 mins a day. I did not meet that, but I did practice 19 days out of 31, and my longest continuous streak was 8 days.

My other goal was to work on & progress with Bhujapidasana and hopefully Bakasana. Always having trouble executing both of these for years, I never integrated them into my practices. Lately I've been drawn to pictures of people doing them, so I thought why not try again? I'm happy to report that I can know do both! Each needs more work and practice of course, but I'm able to sustain Bhujapidasana comfortably for 10 breaths, while Bakasana I am able to keep and hold for a maximum of 5 (before I start thinking too much).

All in all, I felt July was a success!

Hoped to practice at the studio with my co teacher for kids yoga, but I got there late. Since I got into the studio, I did my Adamantine practice there using the mirror to check my alignment.
Took about 50 minutes. Neck is feeling better.

7/31 22/21 (bonus practice!) did shoulder openers with Kate Holcome, almost through the Yoga Journal 21 day challenge, I think I have 2 left in the series. I also did the YJ meditation today, after realizing it's not really 30 minutes...it was really nice....

7/30 21/21 met the goal for the month with wheel pose with Jason Crandall. Had some technical difficulties, my lap top rebooted about 10 minutes in to the practice, so I had to get my tablet going to finish up....fortunately it didn't faze me as much as I thought it would! I did get in a YJ meditation after, but went back to last weeks, since a 39 minute yoga followed by a 30 minute meditation would have really put me behind this morning....it's my first day back to work after my week off.

It's been since April that I began to travel and move cross country...Now getting settled and found a studio that offers 9 yoga classes per week along with Pilates and Zumba...I set a goal of 18 yoga sessions per month and I see that it may be wise to adjust that number since I take 2 classes daily...And my practice starts after 10am, I am limited to about 4 yoga practices a week... I am blessed with 4 yoga instructors offering different styles that enhance my practice...Still, All is well...

Sunday is my day off yoga.... however, I had a great time this afternoon working with my co-teacher planning curricula for our kids yoga class. We have theme for all 12 months and have completed the "story line" and asanas for 6 of the months. January we will be teaching new poses that the kids will do as partner poses in February.

CAROLJEAN I'm so glad you found a good chiropractor, hope the treatment will help you as well as your modified Adamantine Yoga sequence, very interesting how you listen to your body when you finish your Yoga practice either in the morning and/or afternoon.

BIGPOPPAPUFF I'm glad that you have a good chiropractor, your fusion is incredible!

July 26:26/31 AM Yoga for the week, Standing Poses, Rodney Yee, 20 min good slow practice focusing in getting the correct expression of the pose, in coordination with the breath.

Day 11 Chopra Meditation Romantic Love, what a delicious meditation, from 6'53" to 13'09" silence, I turn off the music, which this time was very soothing, feeling like love is moving around in my body a very warm sensation!

lers/ProgramPage.aspx?id=7243&bookIdR>=169

Day 18 Yoga Journal Meditation, Ham sa meditation instruction up to 8'25" silence up to8'50" instruction again up to 9'25" silence up to 10'40" instruction up to 10'53" silence up to 12'03" then closing up to 14'09". I did it back to back with the Chopra Meditation, I think this allowed me to be more focus in Ham sa breathing and it didn't bother me too much that Sally kept breaking the silence.

Puff... that is the sort of chiropractor I would like to find... one who doesn't believe she/he can treat every disease that comes along with a back alignment. I did to for an intake yesterday and after several x-rays... she said she was going to x-ray my nervous system... I asked how and she replied..well the spine that encases your nervous system... then I got a electric muscle stimulation treatment. Today I go in for an evaluation and suggested treatment plan.. I think I will probably stick with my adjusted yoga sequence.
I have dropped legs behind the head for fire log prep and fire log which does a good job of opening my hips. I have dropped plow (which I love, but I know I need to recover first) for shoulder stand. Today was much better. Teacher indicated I should do this practice for six weeks and start by re-adding plow. Sounds good and felt good in my 25 minute Adamantine practice this morning.
I usually practice in the mid to late afternoon as that it is the time of day when I feel low and the practice invigorates me. However, I really like how I feel having done my practice first thing in the morning. I could always do a short sequence of stretches in the afternoon.

Orthopedist: An orthopedic surgeon, a physician who corrects congenital or functional abnormalities of the bones with surgery, casting, and bracing. Orthopedists also treat injuries to the bones. Sometimes spelled orthopedist.

A physiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in physical medicine, rehabilitation, and pain medicine. These spine specialists focus on the body's musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. Physiatrists treat patients of all ages with diverse problems ranging from simple low back sprains to complex disorders, such as spinal cord injury. Their comprehensive approach includes treating the entire patient, not just symptoms.

Physiatry is an aggressive, non-surgical approach to treating musculoskeletal disease and injury, including different types of pain.

You are right BIGPOPPAPUFF in CAROLJEAN's case is a physiatrist. Thanks. I was thinking in an orthopedistic because my dh when jogging tore his meniscus and he needs surgery according to the MRI, the doctor he went to see, hasn't called back to let him know when he is able to do that surgery, so my dh is looking for another doctor. My mind is not where it should be, I really appreciate your input and I for helping me learn something new today, physiatry.

Glad to know you have a good experience with your chiropractor!!!! I personally haven't need any just yet, like me dd would say, knocking on wood!

Saw my yoga teacher this morning. I am going to adjust my practice ... from legs behind the head to prep for fire log and fire log and from plow to shoulder stand. He also suggested a visit to a chiropractor. My DH's dad was a medical doctor and a medical school professor who believed that chiropractors were quacks... so does DH...
Any experience out there to share???

KAYOTIC hip openers very useful emoticon

Day 9 Chopra Meditation, Intuition of the Heart, 15 min(from 7'25" to 13'09" "silence") I did the silence first with the background music (xylophone and piano, the beginning of the musical phrase in the piano was disturbing though) then I repeated the silence turning off the sound in the meditation link and wow what a difference, I could go 4 min in a row without interruption, then the rest on time for the gong sound) I calmed my mind, which has been racing all morning, I kept the so ham ,I chose love and yum mantra with 3 count of holding the breath between breathing in and out.

day 16 YJMeditation Hamsa Meditation focus in holding the breath after breathing in and after breathing out, 14 min in total, Sally kept talking until min 9'25" then she gave 1'10 silence talked a bit more and gave 1' some seconds more of silence and starting talking again, not her best guided meditation, the focus is broken.

7/23 17/21 hip openers with Rebecca Urban, I do like hip openers, it really helps with the athletic pursuits I hope to get back to....

Did day 15 of the YJ meditation challenge too, 14 minutes. I had done day 4 of the Chopra challenge earlier this morning. If I get a chance later I may try to get day 5 in too.

CAROLJEAN your health is first always. Yes leave the ego at home and open your ears and mind to feedback and modifications. It's true we believe we are doing the things right and then something happen to remind us that maybe we are not doing it that well, or that is a better way to do things. Take care. Listen to your body.

Day 8 Chopra Meditation yum mantra to open the Chakra at the heart level, from 3'03" to 13'30" only the music with some sort of prayer, I could disregarded it and focus only in so ham, I chose love and yum, feeling very relax

Day 15 YJ Meditation Hamsa meditation 9'25" intro 1'15 silence, 15 sec instruction 1'10"silence
about 2 ' closing. ham sa breathing, space between breath in and out and between breathing, not very clear for me, I got distracted when she said that in the space between we enter another dimension, my mind started "what does she mean by that?" and it was hard to send away this thought. I watched the new asana sequence and listened to the explanation about the breathing either I was really distracted or I didn't get. I found it redundant. I'll listen later again. I'm planning to do the asanas from the 3 weeks as my yoga practice later.

KAYOTIC so you too experienced it, what I relief! maybe doing the meditation later is better in our case. The practice with Elise Lorimer is interesting, I definitely can't do the pose but the preparation is fun like the one with bakasana. The journey is what counts, would you say that too? Enjoy your vacation!

CAROLJEAN64 hope you can meet with your instructor before something serious happen to your neck. Take care. Rest maybe is the solution. Listen to your body!

Did my Adamantine yoga today without putting right leg behind head, but did left leg, back was almost straight, head up, but still some neck twinges. Was very careful in plow... no neck pain when in the pose, but coming out is hard. Will have to make appointment with James this week if he is in town. Need to get this resolved with either alternate or modified poses before I really hurt myself and have to stop for a while.
Did 50 minutes as I was being very attentive to my breath and body position. Felt wonderful.

I was having that problem the other day, Punchie, too many thoughts about all I had to do that day...(that was Thursday). By evening my meditation took on a much calmer feeling.

7/22, 16/21 did hamumanasana (not the actual pose!) practice with Elise Lorimer. Even though I couldn't do the pose, I did what I could, and found this to be a really good one, even if it was tough. I did the YJ day 14 meditation afterward. Will try to do day 3 of the Chopra challenge later today.

IMREITE great experience the 90 days challenge, How wonderful that Yoga is included and that you add a pose or vinyasa when needed, you listened to your body, wonderful!

Day 7 Chopra Meditation I Choose Love Mantra today, starting with so ham and then from min 5 to min 13 "silence", well a background music with a prayer or maybe is the mantra because it starts with so which is I. It's the first time this challenge that I sit to meditate before my day start, so at the beginning my mind was racing with thoughts of all the things I have to do, I managed though with "so ham" and "I choose love" to let them pass. When I meditate mid-morning I don't have this scheduling thoughts to deal with neither when I sit in the evening . Interesting. I ended my meditation with a warm feeling and certainty that LOVE is everywhere for all of us to discover. www.chopracentermeditation.com/bests

July 22: 22/31 Hatha Yoga, Tamal Dodge, 32 min, wow what a difference using a strap in the Hatha Yoga practice, the poses are more intense, the practice is more vigorous. Love it. Then a nice savasana/small meditation preparing myself for the evening meditation

Day 14 Yoga Journal Meditation, 7'05" intro, 2'40" silence 1'49" closing, ham sa meditation, thoughts coming and going, ham sa breathing like a conductor in an orchestra sending away those thoughts and calling to focus on ham sa...lol

The post in the meditation talked about boredom, I've never ever experienced boredom in my practice rather awe to be able to sit and watch my monkey mind..lol

Has any of you experience boredom while meditating?

Great practice too CAROLJEAN64!

day 6 Chopra Meditation 18'42" I am pure consciousness, pure existence, pure love,no so ham instruction, just forgiveness, let go of bad memories, feelings. I don't hold grudges, long time ago I decided that it was a waste of energy to feel bad about a person or situation, so this 2 last meditations seem far away from me. Did my 45 minutes of Adamantine with the suggestions I got from Sandi... neck is still a bit sore, but not nearly as bad as last week. I think I may have to contact James Miller about what I might be doing wrong. Sandi was going to see if he would do a "private" lesson for me, Sandi and John... another dedicated practitioner.
Still can't believe how hard I work to get myself to my mat and hoe extraordinarily good I feel as soon as I start, continue and complete my practice.
Will post on the meditation challenge about my experiences there.

This daily insight from Yoga Journal seems to very appropriate to improve our practice:

Find Focus
Yoga is the perfect preparation for developing focus. During yoga class, you may focus on anything from your to-do list to your growling stomach, but until you focus on the breath and the details of the poses, establishing the link between the body and mind, your practice will not improve.
Consciously inhaling and exhaling will not only let you root each asana deeper, but if you can control the breath, you can control the mind. Even if you're able to keep your mind focused, be careful to fill it with positive, self-affirming thoughts. Any definitive statement that contains the words "I" followed by "must," "have to," or "never" should be eliminated immediately. Regular yoga practice can encourage this kind of self-acceptance and confidence.

CAROLJEAN64 what a good massage, I remember the film the Grinch felt an overwhelmed happiness, good feeling, keep us posted about the festival and the Adamantine web page! emoticon

KAYOTIC sorry to hear you tweaked your foot, making your practice no so fulfilling, as well as not your day for meditation, kind of peace and calm play trick on us some days, well the advantage is that tomorrow is another day! emoticon

Day 5 Chopra Meditation, 8'25 intro,4'25 silence, about 1'51" closing, 14'46" in total, today I was not centered as I would have liked it, so ham was ok but many thoughts came and go as well. I found that the intro didn't apply to me so I was distracted, checking the time put me back for the silence time.... www.chopracentermeditation.com/bests

12-day YJ Meditation, 6'45" intro, 2'50 silence 1'39" closing Ham Sa meditation plus 4 min pranayama Nadi Shodhana, , the pranayama helped me to focus in the meditation, Ham Sa breathing, some thoughts came and went but not as many as in the morning, feeling ready to tackle my afternoon activities. A bit light-headed, hyperventilation or over breathing am I?, had to take some deep breaths ...wow, too much of anything is not good..even breathing....lol...

7/20 14/21, had a chance this morning to get back to the yoga, did the fun flow with Elise Lorimer. I must admit I wasn't feeling it this morning, I just wanted it to be done....partly because it was a longer one (39 minutes) and I also tweaked my foot doing a twisting motion around the mat. I think if my foot wasn't causing problems I would have enjoyed this one more. And then I did the meditation, and while I did have moments of calm, again I was just waiting for it to be done....not the feeling of calm I'm looking for, but I'll try again tomorrow.

No yoga today, but the most awesome massage. At one point something in my chest just exploded.... I felt like the Grinch at the end of the story.
BTW, neck and shoulders feel marvelous. Will do modified Adamantine sequence tomorrow.
The sequence I mentioned has been developed by my teacher James Miller who also organizes the Iowa City Yoga Festival. He is in the process of copyrighting the name. If it is not challenged by Aug. 17th, he will begin developing materials to make available publicly including a web page. I will keep you posted.

Did my Adamantine practice as a guided self practice at a studio today. Sandi had some great suggestions for my neck and I go to her husband tomorrow for a massage. Spent 60 minutes loving my body.
Plan to to meditation this afternoon just before I go to a meeting with a new yoga teacher about teaching kids yoga with me.

Tried the meditation link on my laptop and finally got it to work....I guess that link doesn't like my tablet! I did the 5 minute standing practice and the meditation this morning. I may do the other this evening, but I have a long day today, so I may put that off for tomorrow.

7/17 13/21 did bakasana practice with Jason Crandell from the YJ challenge. I still could not get the YJ meditation link to work, when I hit the play on the audio, it looks like it's only one second and nothing happens...I may have to check it out on a different machine and see if it's my tablet, although it played the first weeks link fine, and it will play the intro as well. I did the first weeks meditation again today.

Did my Adamantine sequence with a little neck pain today. Tomorrow I will be working with a good friend who trained with me in this sequence and see if we can figure out what is happening. I spent about 15 minutes in deep savasana after with music and hamsa breathing. It was wonderful and my neck feels better already.

Hi IFFYIFFY, great 70 min of Kundalini Yoga!!!!!

2-day Chopra Meditation, 15 min, So Ham and a beautiful background music with singing birds, I was just feeling being in the great outdoors, centered. I did my meditation after watching a video of Deepak and friends talking about how all of us are interconnected and whose purpose was to celebrate the beginning of the 21-day Chopra Meditation Challenge. A 53 min video that ending with a 5 min short meditation for Peace Harmony,Laughter and Love.

9-day Meditation Yoga Journal, Hamsa Meditation 11 min, I sat in a chair, I did not practice the standing poses sequence before. I was able to just sit and connect myself to the meditation without any further preparation. Centered, I visualized Hamsa in my mind and followed the instruction, Ham breathing in Sa breathing out, kind of euphoric feeling like when you have accomplish something important....interesting....

CAROLJEAN64 I agree it is fantastic to be able to practice Yoga, to do the poses, to breath in coordination with them and to somehow know us better, to improve ourselves by what we learnt from doing the poses

I will have these thoughts with me tomorrow in my practice and they will go in my gratitude journal this evening. What a blessing that we have the body, mind and breath to practice this lovely art of yoga.
Did 45 minute Adamantine Practice followed by 5 min. savasana and then the YJ Hum Sa meditation. Had a few moments of feeling utterly still.

Today in Yoga Journal:

Breath of Character
In yoga, we wish to liberate the truth of ourselves so that we can taste our own beauty. The ingredients of an asana practice are flesh, mind, and breath. Your flesh and bones have a basic nature, a genetic and personal history that must be honored. Your mind has a quality different from other minds. The voice in your head is heard by no one else. Your breath has a character.
In your practice this week, take some time to savor the fact that you have what you have, and you can do whatever you can do. Tell yourself as you do poses that your legs have what it takes to support you, your arms and chest can be free and expressive, your breath can be one with the breathing of the planet.

I found this daily insight very interesting, what do you think?

8-day Meditation, Hamsa Meditation, 11 min

I was centered, in my mind I could visualized Hamsa word. Before this meditation I watched again Pema's video the segment with sitting instructions(starting at min 22 of the 35 min video). It was a good combination.

KAYOTIC hope your link works tomorrow perfectly.

July 16:16/31 Flow Yoga, Tamal Dodge, 30 min, vigorous practice, like it, good coordination breathing/pose

First day of the 21-day Chopra Meditation Challenge, So Ham Meditation, 15 min, loved it!

So Ham or Hamsa ? both meditations claimed that it means I AM, anyone knows a bit about this.....

Did three sun salutations just after I got out of bed this morning. Decided to give my neck one more day, as it seems to be feeling better each day. Will do regular yoga routine tomorrow to see how it goes. Luckily I have a massage scheduled for Wednesday and my massage therapist is married to a yoga teacher who practices the same home routine that I do.
Did take a 30 minute walk around the mall.... too hot for outside.
