I can't say from personal experience, but from your description, it sounds like you're on to something there, and if it's working, keep going with it!

Back in late July CAROLJEAN64 shared with us the link to OmHarmonics. I found that this sound piece, to be listened to while meditating, created to touch primarily upon our alpha brain waves, to be incredibly powerful for me. I have just discovered Holosync Meditations. They too, are sound pieces oriented to our brain wave patterns. The little I have delved into this to date, I find I am in such a deep meditative state like I have never been before. I believe there is some theta and delta activity as well as alpha. Wow. I just finished a 30 minute session. There are many ways to get 'there'. Doing 90 minutes of yoga asanas primes me for a 10 minute savasana. For me, so far, simply meditating 'cold' I am rarely able to go so deep. I wish that maybe one day I'll be able to mediate on my own as deeply as I seem to be able to with the sound pieces. Until then.... Anyone else have experiences with this type of sound work or any other type of tools to help with meditation? To be in such a deep state I find extraordinary and so unlike 'regular me'. Anyone else have experiences with such meditative states? Is this something akin to what it's all about?

Oh, I tend to get lost in my thoughts when I'm hiking, even just walking or riding in to work does it too. But I did get in 11 minutes today at the gym before my class, nice bird sounds on my i-pod.

I really need to get back to it more often. I was able to get in a few last week while on vacation, but not enough! Of course I did 3 long hikes and those can be meditative, especially when my i-pod runs out of battery!

PETALIA. that is the book and it was him who wrote what I wrote here. It's a very interesting book. Our minds are like he says a big "cosmos". If you read it let me know to compare notes, please.

KAYOTIC what a good advice floating in water feels safer, and I remember the feeling. I've never been floating in the air, like in a parachute or anything like that, so I just feel bad when I have to climb stairs and look down. Have a great weekend!

Sometimes I think of "floating" as more floating on water than floating in air, maybe that would help?

The laughter meditation was a good state of mind...this week, I've only done one long meditation, and the past couple of days 2 4 minute meditations (to the Buddhist meditation "gong" app I have on my tablet.) Not sure about today, as we're packing up and heading out soon!

Ohhh, was that, "Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain"? I haven't read anything by him, yet and I've been wanting to, a lot. I like what you wrote about the conscious mind intervening and destroying the experience. Thanks.

KAYOTIC when you said "it put me in a different state of mind" I hope it was in a good one.

Yesterday I did the Shiva Rea savasana meditation, I remembered she asks to see our body from above and see what is going on, kind of anchoring, I tried, I couldn't see myself but I felt comfortable going through the chakras points and breathing. I'll try again

I was reading a book about how the mind works, Incognito by David Eagleman, he says that we do things without our conscious mind intervention, and when it intervenes the things don't go as smooth, like when playing a piano, it goes smooth but if you try to think in the notes then it doesn't work. I think that my conscious mind is trying to interpret that "floating" feeling, destroying the experience on the way...

I did another Chopra meditation on Saturday, it started with laughing, kind of different, but it did put me in a different state of mind! No meditation yesterday, too much going on, and Larry came back from his business trip...so the day just went by to quickly!

Today I did a yoga download called let go of the day, which is really a 12 minute meditation...really a nice one.

Saturday 5-6 min my own so ham meditation, just to centered myself

www.yogajournal.com/practice/1770?print=1 On July CAROLJEAN posted this link Slow Hands, meditating moving the hands around the body very very slowly, I matched with so ham breathing for about 8 min, it felt like Qigong moving the energy all around, it was a relaxing and centering experience...

Tried so ham during my massage on Thursday....I keep finding my mind wandering, but can bring myself back to the breathing meditation after a fashion. I didn't count that time for the challenge though, since I really have no idea how long I was actually able to focus on the breathing.

Yesterday (Friday) I did another Chopra download called "daily rituals for wellbeing" 14 minutes, nice reflection.

It actually kind of is, Punchilouie! It is very special to me as I have never experienced yoga with gongs or bowls and right now I am blessed to have the time to go to the classes.

Actually the gym is adding a gong meditation class on Thursday evening and I have scheduled it. I consider it yoga, I guess it is lol. Apparently we just lie there and meditate to the giant gong for an hour. I am thrilled. So that is going to be four sessions a week, more yoga than I've ever done in a class setting and such a novelty to me with the gongs.

The hatha gong class I took was considered meditation and was so wonderful. I then downloaded a gong app on my phone and "meditated" on the sound in the evening for five minutes, repeated that this morning. Gongs and singing bowls are also used in the restorative yoga class I am doing and I would consider that meditation also as we lie in poses a long time and listen to the sounds. Heaven.

Yes, the gong is nice, I did it again on Monday, 4 minutes in the morning, and did some more meditation (about 6 minutes) at the gym before class.

Tuesday I did 4 minutes in the morning, and a Chopra meditation that focused on food, oddly enough I had decided to listen to the first intro part as I was preparing dinner!

Weds was about 10 minutes at the gym. Today I have a massage scheduled, so will try to so ham while I'm getting that done.

KAYOTIC interesting Buddhist meditation, just the gong....that gong has a nice sound.
Have you watch the video in which Pema Chodron explains that sometimes we just meditate at the sound of the gong and then the minds wanders...coming back to focus at the sound of the ending gong?

I choose love meditation soothing practice today at mid-morning,12 min. I tried it with my eyes open focusing 6 feet ahead of me, I could do it better this time. Yesterday I did walking meditation 5 min eyes open at the end of my 5K walk to cool down, it worked well for my body and my mind.

I have had a very simple app for a while called "Buddhist meditation" that I keep forgetting about, but it put a reminder on my table today, so I just did that 3 times for a total of 10 minutes. It's just a gong that rings to count down the time. The first 2 times it was 3 minutes, the third time I had moved up to 4 minutes. I did the so ham breathing (or tried to focus on that!) throughout.

I have a DVD with Alan Finger, it's a yoga one, very nice savasana a the end, so I can imagine how good his meditation would be.

I did 2 more Chopra meditations Thursday and Friday, 18 minutes and 16 minutes. Thursday's I tried in the hot tub, after my walking and yoga, it may have been too long in the tub! But it was a nice meditation, attention, affection, acceptance and something else, I don't recall...hmmm. I may have to do that one again! On Friday she did more of a focus on deep breathing, really helped me focus on that.

This morning I did the meditation that accompany the Yoga Journal Challenge, Conscious Breathing, for 17 min with Beryl Bender Birch. Just breathing trying to be in the present moment. It was refreshing...

I just did "slow walk through nature, 5 min twice, first with the eyes open and walking for about the last 2 min and the second time siting tall with my eyes closed. It was a visualization practice so the second time was better, the first time although in my area it was sunny and a beautiful sky my mind could focus in waves, cliff and forest because there were none around, only peaceful silence in my backyard. I like it but it was different that with Chopra Meditation, which focus more in my inner experience in the moment.

I'll have to check out the doyogawithme meditation, have you tried it?

I did a meditation in the car on Sunday after my trail run, while I was waiting for Larry to come back, he was mountain biking and did a longer route, so I did 15 minutes to my meditation music, really nice with a light breeze blowing.

Right but looking to the floor ahead, also in Pema's video she instructs to look ahead to the floor, 4-5 feet I believe, just to focus. I've being doing the 5 min meditations in the legs-up-the-wall pose, I found it very convenient. I followed your advice on Sunday during my hot stone massage, to do so ham meditation while I was having the massage. You know it was a deep experience, many thoughts came to mind about joy and forgiveness and the I choose love meditation from the Chopra Meditation Challenge and I arrived to the conclusion that everything is in ourselves. I said that joy was being with my dh and dd, but after that meditation I think that primarily,it is to be with myself, because after all me is all I always have. Have you ever thought about it?

I found this other site thanks to a new member in the monthly challenge:
www.doyogawithme.com/yoga-meditation

Here a link to an article about walking meditation, very interesting. www.yogajournal.com/practice/773

I prefer eyes closed, and actually lying down too, although yesterday I meditated sitting up. I also found about half way through I felt like I was slouching, so sat up straighter, which took some concentration, but felt better. I know you have mentioned walking meditation, that would have to be with eyes open, right? emoticon

Yesterday 5 min my own meditation so ham meditation and today Chopra Meditation so ham meditation, 12 min of effective meditation, the other 3 min were just introduction.

KAYOTIC your description intrigued me so I just checked the video in collage video.com, nice place I have a Tai Chi dvd in film in that place, gorgeous landscape. I have a dvd in which the scenery is part of the meditation but in my opinion a bit distracting, maybe it is the next step to do open eyes meditation like in the style Pema Chodron practices, the tibetan style....

Well, we just watched a movie that basically said optimist live longer. So that's a good attitude to have! I'm trying to train myself to look at the half full part of the glass too! Sometimes it's struggle, and sometimes it's so easy to see...

Did the Chopra meditation from the new DVD I got that has Tara Stiles doing the yoga practice (which I also did) and a meditation by Deepak Chopra. Much less structured than the practices in the Chopra challenge, but it was filmed at Joshua Tree, so lots of beautiful scenery. Even though I usually meditate with my eyes closed, I kept them open for a couple of minutes just to see the video. I do enjoy the meditation with eyes closed though, so I closed them and focused on my breathing after that.

or maybe you are so happy that it permeates all the things in your life and don't make any specific remark to what joy is..how nice to talked about it with your boyfriend and share that experience together!

yes that is the Chopra exercise I was mentioning. With joy, I just focus in my dh and dd and that is joy for me irrespective of the not so joyful events we are facing lately, but hey as long as one is with the love ones there is hope and positive things will follow. They called "the glass half full wife/mom"...lol

If you're talking about the Chopra exercise where they wanted you to think of a difficult situation with another person, I had trouble with that one too! I think I've just worked that stuff out (in group therapy for years) to the point where even though I get bothered by people or things in the moment, I don't tend to let it go with me after the moment is past.

The funny thing about the joy is that I brought it up with my boyfriend last night in the hot tub (a joyful experience!) and we talked about a lot of different things that bring us joy, and we've been joking about it today too...maybe I just needed to put that concept more forward in my consciousness?

yesterday Au 31 5 min my own meditation, so ham breathing technique.

It happened to me with forgiveness, trying to think who I wanted to forgive, I was trying hard to think in someone, no one came to mind. I guess when one is ask to focus in specific events, people, the mind is just not there in specifics. I noticed that when I think I'm going to start my meditation my mind changes to a general state, sometimes though many thoughts come to mind but I'm not calling them they just appear in my mind... does that make sense?

I would like to think though that I don't have any grudge, which is a good feeling!....lol

Day 8 from my Chopra download, he used so ham at first, then a reflection on different states, gratitude, compassion, but the one I kind of struggled with was joy, for some reason, nothing came to mind when I was trying to thing of something that brought joy, contentment, yes, but joy, just wasn't there....so I'm wondering if something comes immediately to mind for you guys?

I'm not saying I don't find joy, but for some reason in the meditation it was hard...

Alas, I don't have an IPhone. I'll have to check to see if Android apps have anything similar.
I mediated with Omharmonics, Crown Chakra and some other music for about 20 minutes last night. Had trouble getting out of my thoughts... but it was still good.

So far I am really liking the Simply Being App. It has been putting me in such a relaxed state that I am asleep before the end of it. Very good.

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be

You probably have questions because I knew what I was saying, but I wasn't clear about expressing it. The first ten breaths you count at the end of the exhale. The next ten breaths you count at the beginning of the inhale... so 20 breaths in all... hope that helps.
I did some meditation along with the breathing exercises my physical therapist gave me. I plan to do about 10-15 minutes before bed tonight.

CAROLJEAN it's incredible how we keep looking for more information about yoga and meditation, it's fun always to learn something new. About the counting after you inhale do you start counting holding your breath? and then you exhale and count again? I didn't get at what point you start the so ham, after the inhalation? after you exhale? do you stop counting while repeating so ham? the counting is to create that space between both parts of breathing that Sally explain in the challenge? Sorry many questions..

KAYOTIC great way to use your time!

13 min of guided meditation by David Nichtern, in this meditation one blessed people and ourselves, it's a nice exercise to mentally repeat may ... be happy, may...be healthy, may ...be at ease, at the end a happy feeling showered me.....

Found a book by Sally Kempton in the 1/2 price bookstore titled Meditation for the Love of it. Also meditated using an idea from the other book on meditation I am reading. I begin by counting my breath at the end of the exhale... 1-10 and then at the beginning of the inhale 1-10 and then go do so hum. It is a lovely way to move into the proces for me.

Interesting app STACYR31, interesting too to be able to do it whenever and wherever you like with the phone or like KAYOTIC with the Tablet. I really have to learn how to download those new apps and podcasts in my iPhone. is the app in iTunes?

CAROLJEAN interesting experience with massage and meditation, KAYOTIC gave us a great idea, I'll try it out too. I like to meditate while I do my 10K steps, so ham breathing and the time flies, but I just consider meditation when I sit or do it in savasana, because the impact, the centering is better than when I walk. I thank you for putting words to my feeling of accomplishment, I don't have it every time I meditate, but when I have it is a nice warm feeling.

I just googled Simple Being, is this one?

CarolJean, that's incredible, what an experience....I've been getting a lot out of the yoga/meditation as well, but not quite on that level, maybe soon...

Stacy, have you used the app? How do you like it? I put an app on my tablet, but the meditation only goes for 3 minutes. Not that that's bad, but I've been using other downloads for longer times.

I used your idea yesterday of meditating during my massage and I know I got more out of the massage than ever before AND I got in touch with an emotional issues that that I knew was there, but didn't know what it was. Now, I do and I could feel the emotional charge just draining out of my fingers. I love the way yoga and meditation is allowing me to get in touch with the real me.

So far I'm enjoying the downloads, it was the one we did through the challenge, and the previous challenge, so 44 total meditations. I just finished day 6 which used the Sat-chit-ananda mantra. I like the background music, and since they are on my tablet I can do them anywhere without needing to be online.(as long as I have my tablet with me, if I don't I just use the meditation music on my i-pod) I had missed a couple of days this week, but it feels good to be back!

I know exactly what you mean... I think the accomplishment is a recognition of getting more in touch with your true self. I did meditation this AM while I was waiting for DH's medical procedure to be done. Was very relaxed and good to hear his health is very good.

Great CAROLJEAN, you listened to your body! pamper yourself, it sounded just fantastic!

KAYOTIC thanks I looked for it on the Chopra site, I'm still debating if I download or buy the CDs...are the download ok?

yesterday I re-visited Yoga Journal Meditation week 4, and today Chopra Meditation I choose love meditation, I feel both were helpful... I can't explain exactly how, just this feeling of accomplishment, do you know what I mean?

Today, I have some aches and pains related to my strained trap muscles, so I stretched out flat on the bed.... no pillows in savasana position and listened to 5 minute Crown Chakra meditation and 10 minutes of an hour long music meditation track I downloaded. Felt much better when I arose.

It's from the download I had purchased from the Chopra site, I think it was the mind body challenge they had before the last one that we did.

I did day four today, called relieving anxiety through mindfulness. 15 minutes, another nice one. I felt like even though my mind was wandering a bit, I was able to come back to the breathing and the present and get back to the meditation.

Pema Chodron, an American Buddhist nun said she was taught to meditate with her eyes open softly focused about 1 1/2 feet in front of her. I did a 10 min. meditation using my IPod and the Omharmonics while we were traveling in the car. I also have started reading a book on meditation and I spent about 10 minutes doing the practices described in the first two chapters.

CAROLJEAN thanks for the links, interesting mala beans, they look like a rosary(I'm catholic) and yes they can keep your focus in the prayer, so I imagine in the mantra as well. Interesting, I think they are from the tibetan culture, also muslims have a sort of beads that they keep moving around when praying. I guess it is an universal thing.

My meditations have been mainly So Hum Chopra meditation, yesterday I did the one called forgiveness from OmWeek, the Omharmonics site is having this 10 day meditation, and the Yoga Journal week 1 and week 4. Today I went to the park and kind of sat still contemplating my surroundings, not really thinking in anything, I don't know if that is meditation because I kept my eyes open all the time but completely quiet and still, breathing....

Birds singing what a nice way to meditate KAYOTIC.
