I will practice in my garden. In the one shady spot in the side yard. After I have done all the weeding and planting and watering and harveting. and I willo be thankful for all the fruits of my labors.

I was working the "nurture cure" yesterday, caretaking an elderly family member who needs my help.

So, I was too tired to do my 5 Rhythms, or even to take a walk ...

But that was yesterday.

at the appointed hour, I will do an evenly paced practice.

Since I do have to gear up for attendance at an actual swimming pool (after over a year, with my tight schedule) the yoga practice will have a lot of pilates in it, the practice of which could be grueling in this heat ....

You know I'm serious--

When ... from the balcony on my way to helping out the family member, I saw my cousin (close to my age) swimming away. The balcony must have been 20 yards upwards from the pool edge where she was entreating me to join the fun ... yes her voice carried, and her vision is farsighted !!!!

Of course, I could not. Did not have that kind of time ...

but I will make it to another (less expensive day pass) pool ....

Will be doing yoga in an upbeat and positive mood. Even though my Random act of kindness got torpedoed.

My upstairs neighbor is clanging heavy weights or furniture on the floor, causing my entire apartment to shake. In addition, there are vibrations from a treadmill or a floor buffer ... etc. This is causing vibrations in my apartment.

And, NO, I know from experience having to withstand those spillover pollutive annoyances don't burn any calories. I wish it did.

That being said, I will do my yoga practice anyway. I have in the past. Of course, that was back in the day when I was still affording real classes instead of in-the-park or unled ones ... and the stakes were a bit lower because I felt like I was "exploring" in the classes and "making up for lost time"

Now, my yoga teacher doesn't have to spot me in a challenging pose. She doesn't have to lead me. She doesn't care if I advance or retrogress. I am no reflection on her.

I divest myself of attachments to the Great Yoga Facilitator (fill in the blank).

That is yet another reason for the Page 14 stuff.

[I hope I have connection speed at home again ...]

I scoped out where MY Yoga in the Park class would probably take place. It seems the terrain is gently sloping in that part of the park. I already have seen the teacher in action, and it's a good thing I have lived in (the nearby) hilly terrain for the past more than 3-1/2 years (although walking is different from doing yoga) ...

Great excuse for me to go mild on that class anyway.

I'm not going to "compete" with the youngsters ...

Probably would be sweating loads ..

I've never had the opportunity to do organized yoga outdoors. I've had a Tai Chi class in the botanical garden in Denver and it was really a good practice. But it was really informal with volunteer teachers also. I do love the outdoors.

The "Yoga on the Lawn" session I attended yesterday is a project of a nearby city. Various local instructors donate their time to lead free community yoga sessions. This one was in a lovely park-like setting.........very humid and lots of bugs..... there were approximately 50 people in attendance. This city also sponsors a "Yoga in the Park" series that is similar only in a different setting and day of the week. Over 300 participants are usually there.

I have decided that I like the IDEA of outdoor group yoga more than I like the actual practice. I could barely hear the instructor and she did not help correct any poses. Also, when the ground is uneven it's hard to work on balance.

Live and learn. I still want to try the group of 300 at least once just for the experience. emoticon

Same way tonight as yesterday at 10 am, but a little lighter in spirit ...

Like the way my shoulders look (okay, they really aren't bulky like swimmers' shoulders, like mine actually used to be when I'd been able to get to a pool a few times a week; but, hey these yogini shoulders are quite defined--I'LL take them)

On the lawn ... you commandeered a private teacher for big $$ (split several ways) onto your lawn ... ? Is that what you did?

That's, dog-panting, tongue-hanging-out RICH .... lol

Well, I have to take my chances that MY particular teacher forgets my self-sequence riffs at a rapid pace, as swimming season yet again awaits (just like LAST year, folks) ... and would have her teach at the community class very soon---in the park .. (alas, I have no lawn...)

For TODAY, alone in my apartment I will perform the rites. Getting very bored with my music selections, so I will stick on the ambient sound machine ...

less incentive to buy yoga music or anything more yoga related, online when Tree of Life Yoga is no longer interested in getting a cut of my purchases through their portal. Because that's the only money they could get from me right now ...

Tonight, very soon now:

(1) But NOT in the community class. My teacher there teaches another community class, a class that is LED by her.

I already gave her enough ammunition in the self-sequenced class she also does. I have been there *5 times* already ...

I will let time hopefully have her forget what she may have seen me doing in her self-sequenced class, so that she has a more objective led class for me ...

Otherwise, for someone who practices so frequently at home, I don't benefit all that much from what would if in sports be known as the "home court advantage" ...

Because half the time I pick my yoga styles wisely ...

(2) And with all the intention in the world ...

PUNCHIE gave me some ideas.

Tonight ... more hip openers and a good amount of core in my practice ..

Walking always tightens up my side hips and bulks up my legs (due to plenty of hills near where I live, which is where I walk) ...

As for the legs (not the strongest nor the weakest), they naturally bulk up rapidly and quads and hamstrings have to be stretched ...

My midsection hurts when I laugh, so it's better I go a little easier on the floor corework in my home yoga practice ...
and whether or not I practice today, it might be a better thing if I practice yoga more frequently
so this does not happen again ..
I don't remember most of my yoga CLASSes burning my core like this ...except there was one very mild hatha one that had been extremely core-centric and I had been hungry right after it, which was unusual ...

I have to admit I did not like the class I took today. Temps were in the 90s and we were outside sweating our pores out! Bugs etc added to my discomfort. Soooo..... I found something about yoga I do NOT like. Live and learn I guess.

Well, since I don't have the time to make Yoga in the Park even though it is with my fave teacher (and the price is right), I will do a prana-inducing practice of my favorite S2BS ....

My latest research confirms my own style really is a flow practice; and not so much slow-flow at all, which was what I used to think ...

I grafted a far more mellow style onto the Baptiste Power Yoga and the Yoga Fit bases of it ...
Pondering whether to go take a couple classes back at that place that featured it ...

I already did my own Soft 2 Be Strong home yoga practice, 103 minutes today, before I saw this thread ...

But it really got my body spent ... it's like Baptiste Power Yoga on quaaludes is the closest thing I could describe it as ...

I plan to return in a few days and take the OM-Inspired class ... I'd gone Friday night to the freeform .. taking my meditation straight in class, for a very lengthy near-half-hour is playing with fire for a former meditation addict ...

So many great suggestions and such a variety of practices in our group! Isn't this great? I love learning of all these new resources! emoticon

I find that I love to start each day with some basic poses before I even get out of bed. I do some breathing and stretching to get my body moving. This has been a real revelation for me. Never could have done this when I had little kids at home. Just one of the perks of the empty nest..... emoticon

So far today I have only done my morning sun salutations.... but the body is calling for something... I just have to figure out what. I have a Rodney Yee DVD I haven't completed for the first time yet. I can't decide between 20 minutes on sun salutations or 20 minutes on back bends.... I think I'll try the back bends. Let you know how it goes.

I like to do my yoga practicing an hour after I eat breakfast. I'm always really stiff when I first get out of bed, so I just do a long stretch and eat breakfast. Then I do a variety of programs from On-Demand. Some of them are OK. I like Sara Ivanhoe the best because it's relaxing and challenging too. I've been wanting to buy a DVD. My favorite poses are the warrior series and I like the sweet surrender from yogajournal.com. On second thought I really love doing all the poses nice and slow and stretching.

I got way off-track last week -didn't track my food, workout, or practice yoga very much. My body is complaining like crazy today. Seriously, is THIS what people who don't practice yoga feel like all he time and they just think it's normal???

Anyway, because it's so gentle, I did Suzanne Deason's Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss, which is poorly named but is a lovely practice. I feel like I might actually inhabit my body again!!!

I like the youtube videos for a daily short stretch. I look at yoga as a strength training routine regardless of what SP calls it so my plan is to not do more than a stretching routine daily, as of right now I'm trying make it a habit to do it weekly. If I succeed at making it a habit I get to buy a year subscription to yogatoday.

These are the youtube classes I know...

Yoga Today's Youtube channel

Yogatic

yogapol

I struggle because I haven't found a video 'class' that I like better than yogatoday. I've never taken a live class - I did just find one in my area that seems friendly and has reasonable drop in rates.

Yes, I like to start off my day with yoga too. Sometimes I grumble when the alarm goes off early but it's always worth it.

Anyone else do the youtube classes? How to you access those?

I am going to our community yoga hour class at 5:00 PM today. Usually prefer to do my yoga in the morning.

I'm taking a rest lately because I hurt my knee practicing yoga. In a moment I feel better I'll be back. I miss my yoga.

I had intended to do a 25 minute yogatoday class on youtube this morning but I couldn't fall asleep last night so I didn't get up this morning. As it is, I started the day with a set of sun salutations. I especially need it on days after I run!

Ah, in the moment mindfulness....I keep looking for this, it feels like a constant battle for me, and yet, shouldn't it feel more peaceful? And you're right Shirlz, definitely more life changing than the headstand!

Wonderful observation, Jannebarn, about mindfulness. Hard, because mind is so habit-bound, and possibly the most rewarding -- being able to do a headstand probably never changed anyone's life, but mindfulness...

I aim for one morning class a week on Saturdays. I do a couple of 20 minute podcasts or DVDs during the week before work.
Recently I added a short YOGATIC Yoga for the Office to my routine. It takes 7-10 minutes at your desk. Wow, what a nice break!
The hardest part of yoga is practicing the in-the-moment mindfulness. emoticon

Good for you! What a nice (early!) start to your day...If I get in any yoga today, it will likely be a DVD.

I was able to start out my day with an hour long yoga class one on one with my instructor. What a great way to start the day! Even if I did have to get up at 0500!!!
