Jack only got 4 months...I don't think I really understood this kind of Cancer until then. And now I know it is one of the ones, that really needs some help to get something start to get it cured!

Have now hit two goals! Over one year of not smoking and am below the 150lb mark! Just hit my third goal, under 140lbs! 03/27/09 hit the 50 pounds lost goal!

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. It's a hard one to beat, only a few do. My mother only lived 7 months after her diagnosis, her brother 6 months.

This is what killed Luciano Pavarotti, Michael Landon and Randy Pausch. Patrick Swayze, on the other hand, is one of the very few who is winning his battle against it.

I just lost a friend to this cancer in September, his wife is involved in this walk in another state and I have provided her with a donation. Thanks for being this to the attention of everyone.

Here's a great way to get some exercise while helping pancreatic cancer research. The following info is from their brochure:

"SUNDAY NOVEMBER 2, 2008 | KIWANIS PARK, TEMPE Arizona (Baseline Road Entrance)

FACTS ABOUT PANCREATIC CANCER:

-Pancreatic Cancer has a mortality rate of 91 percent.

-This year alone, Pancreatic Cancer will kill approximately 34,290 friends, family and loved ones.

-Research spending per pancreatic cancer patient is the lowest of any leading cancer.

-Pancreatic cancer has the worst five-year survival rate of any cancer, partly because the cancer has usually developed into a late-stage disease by the time it is diagnosed.

2008 Support | All proceeds from the 2008 walk support the Translational Genomic Research Insitute’s (TGen) Pancreatic Cancer Research Laboratory. TGen’s efforts in fighting pancreatic cancer — the least curable of all cancers — is led by world-expert, Dr. Daniel Von Hoff, Physician-in-Chief and Director of TGen’s Clinical Translational Research Division. Dr. Von Hoff leads a team dedicated to developing improved diagnostics and more accurate treatments for patients.

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.
5K run begins at 9:00 a.m.
1-mile walk begins at : 9:05 a.m.
Kids dash to follow run/walk
Kiwanis Park - Tempe, Arizona
(Baseline Road Entrance)

TGen is a non-profi t 501(c)(3) organization that combines cutting-edge technology, bioinformatics and research to identify genes that play a role in disease development and progression. By partnering with collaborators in the clinical, academic and scientific communities around the world, TGen works hard to accelerate the development of new diagnostics and therapeutics for patients with pancreatic cancer."

Having lost both my mother and uncle to this cancer, it does hold particular meaning for me. The statistics are brutal: less than 5% of pancreatic cancer patients are alive 5 years later. If you would like more information and/or to register online, please go to:

Thanks for your consideration!
