I can't find the article anymore, here's a different one: www.azcentral.com/community/mesa/citizen/a

However, it doesn't include directions. You have to go east on 60 towards Gold Canyon, and turn left on Mountain View Rd. From Greenfield Rd it's about 14 miles. After turning left at the light on Mountain View, take the first right, then the next first right again which will bring you to Silly Mtn. You will see parking on the left. Definitely bring water! I can walk 3 miles around here with almost no thirst but hiking up there for even half an hour has me gasping for "agua". When leaving, you can just turn directly onto the 60 heading west.

Where is silly mountain? I've never heard of it. I tried going to your link, but the article is no longer there.

Hi Heather! I'm sorry I didn't see your reply sooner. I was back out there today with my daughter. We took a great little hike -- same one as before but took less than 50 minutes. Guess I spent more time taking pics than I realized.

The abundance of wildflowers is very great this year, apparently there haven't been this many in a decade. You really should get out there... In a few months, it will be all brown and awfully hot.

I'd be glad to have a walking partner if you want to meet. Next week my dd's will be back in school, and I'm hoping to get out there weekly until it gets too hot. Just let me know... :)

Happy trails, indeed! I've been walking up Silly Mountain for a couple of years now. When I heard the trail going up the mountain would be closed, I didn't think I'd be able to get much of a workout. But I was out there a few days ago, and the new trails were open.

This is actually better than before. Now you can walk around all sides of Silly Mtn and still get a good workout while enjoying the scenery on all sides of it. BTW, it has never been more beautiful than it is right now. Very green with many wildflowers, just beautiful!

The connecting trails I took gave me a sort of round trip around the mountain and was 1 hr 10 min but I was walking very fast the 2nd half of it. It truly is gorgeous...don't miss out, there is just a week or two at most and the weather is perfect as well right now.
