These are all great answers, but the only thing I can tell you is to drop to your knees and give it to God. Yes I said it. You worrying about it won't do anything and it hasn't for the past 4yrs. Honey I know what your going though give yourself a break and give it to him. Easier said then done, but you need to let someone else worry about it, someone that know what there doing. 2008 WILL BE THE BEST YEAR YET. Not just weight wise but over all health. I know you wouldn't mind being 20lbs heavier and happy.

Okay, I was diagnosed with metabolic disorder with some insulin resistance, moderately low thyroid, and PCOS a year and a half ago and I was told to lose weight and put on YAZ so that I'd start having periods again. Well, I was on that for a year and then at my next checkup a different gyn said that being on birth control long term increased your chance of breast cancer. When I said I was told I'd get uterine cancer w/o it, since no periods, she said its easier to treat uterine cancer than breast cancer and so if it were her she'd take her chances just losing weight and hoping for the best. Freaked out, I went off the pill. Well, I had a few random spotting incidences and one light period over the next few months, then I finally had a real period for the first time since June. I'm hoping its just that I'm finally losing enough weight that the hormones are starting to correct themselves, but I don't really know what to do. What have you guys heard about YAZ? Is the risk really that bad? I felt so much better and looked so much better while I was on it (my acne disappeared entirely, and I was a lot less hairy). Have any of you been told this kinda thing? I dunno, I'm starting to think that maybe that doc was just crazy and I should ignore her. Afterall, my family has no history of breast cancer, but I know my grandmother had to have a hysterectomy (though I never heard the story why) so that may have been PCOS related. What do you guys think? What have you heard about which risk is worse?

I live in a pretty big area (Suburbia, near NYC) and I was diagnosed by my dermatologist (kinda funny). He perscribed my drugs for a year, then told me to see and endocrinologist. She prescribes my metformin, but insists I get birth control from my gyno. It's confusing.

PS: anyone in the Nassau County area looking for a good Endo, I can defintely reccomend mine. I can give you more info if you want.

Height: 5' 11"
Starting weight: 228
Ultimate goal: 180-170

Currently working and going to grad school. Given my stress level and time constraints (and with my doctor's blessing), I'm not trying to lose a lot of weight, just be healthy and not gain. Once I get my degree I'll pick things up again.

Divine,

one thing I noticed is that, in "smaller" areas of the country the GYN's don't seem to know much about PCOS. Right before I was finally diagnosed I'd been to a GYN who told me PCOS was just a myth and if I lost weight I'd be fine. (and she was a woman!) This was in 2004.

Right after that I went to a Reproductive Endrocrinologist with the checklist from the soulcysters site. He ran some test - including an ultrasound - diagnosed me and started prescribing for the PCOS (not to get me pregnant, just to treat the syndrome).

When I first moved to a bigger city at the beginning of 2005, I called the GYN and asked for a referral to a reproductive endrocrinologist. They asked why, and when I told them, they said - We treat that here, you only go to an RE if you want to get pregnant.

Different strokes in different places of the country.

See if you can find a reproductive endrocrinologist in your area that knows about PCOS. It is NOT healthy to not have a period. It's not something you should ignore.

In the meantime, keep your chin up and go on being "Divine" (I really like the name).

im going to a specialist. i was talking to a doctor from california and he thinks i should be tested for cushings disease. so im going to a specialist up at penn univeristy hospital to get the tests. cause ive noticed the doctors around here treat the aftermath and not the cause of everything. these doctors from california are dead set that i have cushings from my symptoms. go figure.

As I mentioned before I have gone YEARS w/out a period and have three beautiful children. It took a long time, but it is worth it!

These doctors that ignore you ladies are BAD doctors. RUN, don't walk to find a new one. Don't forget, these doctors are not God, they are just people. YOU are hiring them and THEY work for YOU! They aren't doing you some big favor. You hire them and you are their client. They provide a service. If you are unhappy with that service then find a new one! emoticon

The doctors can usually give you a pill to jump start your period. It will not make you ovulate. Then once you have that cycle, they can give you clomid which hopefully will make you ovulate. Being on clomid is not very fun, but if it works it is worth it.

I seriously wonder if this BC problem and no periods could be something else. Please make sure you follow up with another doctor!

Kellygoo72, don't give up! Have you been charting your temps? I was charting during my last attempt to get pregnant. I had a period and then nothing for three months. Because I was charting, I was able to see that I had ovulated and then figure out that I had conceived. The clomid didn't work with my last one so I gave up and put it in God's hands. I was charting and then pregnant within 5 months of giving up on clomid. REMEMBER, you usually ovulate before your period so there is a chance you could get pregnant on your own if you pay attention to your body. "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" is an excellent book on this topic. My docs always gave me another round of Provera if I didn't have a period and wasn't pregnant on the clomid.

Hang in there everybody!

I have not had a period in over 1 month now and to say Im mad or sad about this would be a lie.... It has depressed me so bad, last nite I cried my eyes out... I do not think i can keep dealing with the set backs, I cant even take the damn clomid cause my period is missing. I know for a fact that I have gained weight too... Its all so much for me. I try to block it out but today, this woman came in with a 15month old lil boy who was so cute...I actually had to keep my distance cause it hurts too much

I've gone as long as two+ years without a period. I might average 1-3 a year at best w/out "help." My periods increase as my weight drops. When I do have one it is very long and heavy since such a long time passes between them.

Your doctor is the best person to talk to about correcting the problem. You might have some other problem on top of PCOS.

Best of Luck!

Talk to the OBGYN that long since your last period is really really long - I didn't have one while on DepoProvera but that wasn't really healthy either and actually might have jump started my PCOS...

Good luck and let us know what you find out!

Not having your period is a symptom of PCOS, but only one of the symptoms. You shouldn't go more than 3 months without a period as any longer than that raises the risk of uterine cancer. If you haven't talked to your dr about this, you REALLY should. I've been on birth control pills then provera to make sure I have a period. I am now on Metformin and have one monthly. BUT...again, you really should talk to your gyno.

Divine, have you taken any birth control pills or shots? Have spoke to your doctor about not having menses? Three years is a very long time to be without menses. I looked at your profile but didn't see any information about your PCOS. Can you give us more info?
