Here's a link to a discussion thread on another site regarding butter alternatives.

I use Ghee/clarified butter and coconut oil the most. Ghee is closest to butter.

Has anyone doing Paleo found a great alternative to butter? I've had a hard time giving this up because I cannot find a good Paleo replacement.

I cannot eat pasta due to the celiac; and, I really do not like the taste of gluten free pasta. My issue is the dairy, but I have been good the past few weeks with not eating dairy or baked goods. I think it's really about discipline and self-control with me. I have weaknesses and sometimes I am downright lazy after working a 10-12 hour day as a salaried IT employee. However, I am finding a lot of yummy recipes on various websites. Here is a link to one site.

Hi everyone! Recently diagnosed with PCOS. I am doing a whole 30 this month. I'm not perfect, but I feel better when I eat paleo.

Had some turkey/sausage/apple hash for breakfast, banana and almond butter for lunch, and meatballs/tomato sauce and zucchini noodles for dinner... It was all very good. :)

My husband won't do it either, which is frustrating. I don't mind too much that he doesn't do it with me.. Having the convenient non-compliant food around all the time is what is tough for me.

I've cut out pasta completely for almost a month which was really difficult for me but I've noticed such a difference. My husband likes veggies and healthy foods, but our problem is cooking at home rather than going out to eat. I'm still learning how to cook because I was never taught when growing up and my husband has shown me a lot, but he has a tendency to get lazy and not want to cook/show me how to prepare a meal; it's easier to just go pick up bad food. I've asked him to refrain from this but he just won't. It's an uphill battle.

My husband rarely eats fruits and will not eat vegetables at all. The kiddo tends to lean the way her father eats which I'm trying to change, and make her love veggies again.
Dairy isn't too hard so far, mostly the margarine thing is where I'm still slacking, on toast, etc, but I hardly drink milk or eat cheese any more.
I also don't really eat a lot of gains, except the occasional toast or sandwich. I really need to start prepping meals in advance. Baby steps. If I don't buy it or make it for them, they will have to learn to take care of themselves for meals.

I completely understand. When I told my husband and best friend that I wanted their support when eating paleo, I was instantly met with resistance. My best friend said "Good luck, but that just doesn't sound fun to me," while my husband originally said he would try to do it too. Within two days, that fell off. "I can't do it; it's not feasible." I just wish I had someone here with me that could help me and be supportive. At least we aren't alone in these feelings.

That's one of my goals as well. I think it helps to have support while doing it. I have family and friends who do not adhere to a special lifestyle. They eat what they want and will not change. However, I had to decide that I will seek support elsewhere, which is why I have come here. We can do it. One step at a time.

So I am not the only one having a hard time completely converting...that is comforting. One of my goals for 2014 is to replace a few more things out of my diet to Paleo.

I am doing it about 60%. It is a radical change for me; however, I have several food allergies (gluten, soy, corn, etc). It makes it a bit easier, but does not stop the food cravings . I am learning to incorporate more paleo recipes in my diet and grocery lists. I am taking it slow as I am the only one in my family with such restrictions. However, I am learning discipline...it is a process...

I would love to try this diet and adapt it in my life but just reading what you can't have is making me crave milk! I love milk, peanuts, chocolate (on occasion), yogurt, cheese... Ahhhh. Any advice as to whe to start? I don't know how well I could stick to it, but maybe if I look at is as cutting down on that stuff, and slowly wean out?

Hi there,
I just read that you are on paleo/primal diet, but which one? I read that the paleo says no dairy and some legumes, but the primal no dairy and no legumes. This is about my niece , she is a thin PCOS and now I would like her to start this diet, but please if you could clarify to me, which one is better for PCOS, thanks so much!

Even when I don't eat wheat bread instead of white bread and even when I eat foods not processed, hardly anything changes. I am trying to implement paleo but I have to be a little more flexible. I don't know if making certain changes doesn't help me because I have Hypothyroidism too or if it's an allergy to wheat or what. I think it's great that you found something that helps though. :)

I have been doing Paleo. I have got to say that it is working for me. I started about 60% Paleo back in October and I have lost 30 pounds combined with exercise. I say 60% because I back peddle and fall off, but it does seem to be working.

One day at a time! Couch to MINI-MARATHON Here I come!!!!!

I wish I could do Paleo, but my body will not process most meats, so the bulk of my protein comes from dairy and legumes. I will hold positive thought for your success!

That is so good to hear!

I'm surprised the first thing I didn't do after week one was dive into a loaf of bread, but I haven't had bad carb cravings at all! I'm surprised personally.

It feels SO GOOD not to count calories either. That has to be one of my favorite things! Ha ha!

I've been paleo/primal for the past 8 weeks. I've lost 23 lbs without counting a single calorie. I also restarted my cycles, and even got a positive ovulation test for the first time last month. It is wonderful and such a good option for pcos women. I also feel so energized and do not have the sugar highs and lows I did on so many other popular weight loss programs. Glad to know others are getting the same results!

Since the beginning of the year I've been eating better, I cut out all the processed stuff, and started to eat whole grains instead of white breads/rice. I was feeling great, and was able to get some symptoms under control.

Since the beginning of this month however, I started to eat following the Paleo guidelines, and holy cow! I've never had so much energy in my life! Also I think that the body hair is growing slower, if not at all in some places? If that sounds crazy. It may have to do with cutting out all dairy products. AND I finally finally finally had my first period in 1 year 9 months. No medicine.

I was wondering if there were any other Paleo's out there with the same success or those just starting out?
