I very much agree. That is awesome for you! I haven't had a period in over 7 years. Can't say that I miss it though. lol I'm very happy without it.

My body couldn't tolerate metformin so my PCOS went untreated for years after diagnosis, but I've found that if I don't drink soda I get a period. Since I've been eating low carb/calorie I've had 3 in a row. After not having one for over a year. I really think if you pay attention to what you put in your body and get active it will reverse itself! Good luck girls! emoticon

It's not necessarily no dairy, it is no pasteurized, homogenized dairy with up to 6 drugs in it. What is sold in the stores is poison, imo. Here is a link to one article:
http://journal.livingfood.us/2009/12/04/
raw-milk-myths/

This one will really be disconcerting, but people need to know it:
http://www.draxe.com/are-these-chemicals
-in-your-milk/

It has probiotics that make it so healthy. It is ridiculous that healthy, raw milk is outlawed in so many states. People should have a choice.

If you start learning about the origin of food and lift that veil, you'll notice a lot of secrecy. Watch Food, Inc. for one. Very eye opening.

I have this to say. I was on Metformin for YEARS. In the beginning, it did stop my inexplicable weight gain. There came a day last year that I just stopped taking it. I was at a friend's house visiting. Another friend was visiting as well. I was so sensitive to every sound that it was not only distracting but driving me nuts. I could hear the dog doing this whistly breathing that I absolutely could not subtract out of my head. The other friend who was visiting knew I was taking medication. She used to be a pharmacist but hasn't practiced in years because she says she cannot in good conscience do it. According to her, all meds contain heavy metals. She said she could tell I was suffering from symptoms of metal toxicity. Made me think . . . any of you notice how ADHD and autism are off the charts?? I thought I was getting ADHD and autism. And don't get me started on vaccines.

Anyway, I haven't taken that med in months. I am excited to say that between eating mostly low carb and exercising, I have lost 10 lbs!! The exercising starts a motor that really burns fat for me. I thought at age 44, that I would be a lost cause. Since I stopped taking met, I no longer am sensitive to weird noises. Yahoo! I suggest staying away from sugar, milk in the store and processed foods and exercise! This is doable!

I would be careful about natural remedies, maybe ask your doctor? Sometimes they can mess with your condition as well. I tried a few and it ended up making me feel worse than better. I have heard of many success stories of women who eat Paleo and reverse their PCOS without drugs. Good luck, I can understand wanting a more natural approach!!

I am currently on 500 mg of Metformin, I have noticed that in order to have weight loss and results I have to eat the right foods. When I am loading up on crap I don't notice anything but that I am maintaining my weight. BUT when I eat low carb, low sugar and exercise regularly the pounds actually fly off, I feel so much better and my body reacts in a positive way. My hope is that one day I can control my PCOS with my diet instead of drugs!

Check out my blog at findingaskinnierme.blogspot.com/ I write a lot about my experience with PCOS and the obstacles of losing weight!

I have been on 2000mg of metformin for about a year now and it has been very helpful for me. I was one of those persons who saw some weight loss or normalisation as well as it kick starting my periods. I was originally placed on 1000mg but that was not very helpful and my doctor kicked it up to 2000mg. I have had a regular period every month since. I am on a a 30 day cycle. While this is good I hate having a period after so many years of not having one but at least we know that metformin works as I now also ovulate every month.

As of the use of cinnamon and chromium the is a lot of noise out there that they also seem to help regulate blood sugar as does green coffee extract. My doc has me on the chromium and the green coffee extract as well. ( I only recently started them to help control my sugar cravings so the main control for the PCOS was the metformin.) The chromium does seem to help reduce my craving for sugar but sugar is additive so I often fall off of the wagon. By the way, even though I am hypothyroid with PCOS I have been able to lose 40 lbs over the last year. ( I have had some set backs as it has been difficult to regulate my thyroid but it is proving that weight loss is possible.) I was once a 18W now I wear a size14 heading to a 12. I can shop in the normal store now without worrying that I wouldn't find anything to wear.

You might want to research Cinnamon as an alternative or as a booster. It has been known to reduce BS levels as well as help the body work against insulin resistance. I don't have any data handy but there are plenty of articles out there.

What exactly are you looking for it to do? My understanding is that some of the affects of PCOS have a large impact on our insulin and that the syndrom causes our bodies to create MORE insulin than our body needs. The metformin helps control the insulin so that we don't become resistant to it. There are some who experience weight loss by taking it and it can also kick start a period. However, I've been taking it for years and it doesn't help with my weight loss or periods, but it keeps me from being diabetic.

Perhaps doing some research may help so that you understand better why you are actualling taking it. I have also read that there is no actual treatment for PCOS and that the metformin is just one way to keep the syndrome in check.

Today you are you. That is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you. ~Dr. Suess

Hi,

I don't have any natural alternatives, but I'd be interested in seeing if others do, too. I was on 500mg of metformin for years and it did nothing for me. A doctor last year bumped it up to 2000mg/day for me, but honestly, I still don't know if it's doing anything for me.

I hope others have some ideas for you!
