I was told to start using men's Rogaine, which I guess is stronger than the women's version. It makes my scalp feel funny, but I haven't used it long enough to see any progress.

I've had a gradual hair loss since puberty and by now I'm 23 and it's reaaaally bad. I can't say how to fix it right now (still trying to figure that out) but the only thing that helps cover it up for me is something like Toppik. Look it up on Amazon. It's basically a powdery substance that matches your hair color to add volume and covers the scalp. Before I would never wear my hair down because you could see my scalp all over but last year I tried Toppik and it covers the scalp enough for me to wear my hair down. I get so many compliments when I do. Problem is that it's messy and leaves dust particles all over but it's totally worth it.

I am a medical student with PCOS. I know how awful it feels to have hairloss and thinning of hair.
PCOS is mostly endocrinological problem. In fact an endocrinologist diagnosed my disease first.
Try putting sunflower oil (cooking oil) on your scalp. Massage it and leave it overnight
wash it in the morning. I know the smell is not great but it helped me a lot.
I now have new hair growing and I no longer have hair falling whenever I pass my hand through my hair.

Wow I didn't know how common hair loss was. I've been feeling like a freak for years. I'll be more insistent with my doctor next time I see him.

Thank you!!!

JULMUT: thanks for the advice, yeah I go to an Endicrinologist who specializes in Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome/PCOS, but I think its that he is a male and doesnt have sympathy. So I may just have to look for a female doctor. I actually received a letter from him today, because I requested lab work, to see where I am since last time (September) as far as Glucose, and Testosterone. So I am going to take the labs and then request a different Endicrinologist.

sounds like a good idea... i don't know what type of doctor your seeing now, but i have found that my endocrinologist does way more for me than my family doc or my ob-gyn. of course, the most important thing is that they listen and work with you to find a solution that helps.

and here's my extra 2 cents for today: i go to an endocrinology clinic that specializes in diabetes. yes, i have type 2 diabetes, but i also feel that i get great care there for pcos, because so much of what is going on in the body with the hormones and such is similar between the two.

best of luck! keep us posted...

Thanks guys :) I appreciate the feedback. I am thinking of getting another doctor a woman who may understand this more. My doctor is a male who is overweight and balding badly, so he has no sympathy seems like.

spironolactone -- its an anti-androgen, and so it can help prevent and reverse hair loss. My hair has gotten thicker since I started taking it. Some people also have success drinking spearmint tea a couple times a day, but I personally have never tried it...

I lost an enormous amount of hair from April to Octboer last year. I couldn't wear my hair up because you could clearly see my scalp and it looked awful down ,I was desperate. I saw a specialist that perscribed me Minoxidil which is a lotion I have to put on every day and night. It's a pain because you have to have it on for at least 4 hours before you can wash it off and makes hair look greasy but IT WORKS. My head had regrowth all over it that's now about 2 inches long. It gave my hair a bit of an 80's mullet style their for a while what with the short spikes and all, but what the hell....it's growing and it's back to how it was about 10 yrs ago. The flip side is that you have to continue to use it forever or else whatever has come back falls out again. I now just put it on to sleep and wash it in the morning and at least it has stopped anymore falling out.

Find another doctor who takes it seriosly. There could be all sorts going on healthwise that has caused this, and whatsmore our hair is so important to how we feel about ourselves and our self-confidence. I was also perscribed some tablets which effectively are iron and zinc.

I wish you all the luck on the world.

Hi All,

I have had PCOS (diagnosed) for 3 years now this month. The hair loss started a couple years ago it is at the alltime high...its to the point where I cant wear my hair down (crown is almost all gone) and now the front is noticeable too...it is sooo depressing...I dont know what to do. The doctor didnt seem to be concerned, and just said to lose weight and get my testosterone under control.

But...I need solutions NOW...that will stop it and help regrow. I have been looking into Anti-DHT (anti-testosterone) shampoos...Idk if anyone has any other stuff that has helped..

Need your help.
