I had a long dislike relationship with preg tests... I always found the results hard to read and was later told by a Dr NOT to take them, my urine isn't "dense" enough. Too bad I hadn't bought stock :) That is very me specific though, if you find the sample window clear, you are likely fine to take them. What worked for me was to know when I might be pregnant (by figuring out when I had ovulated - I can be more specific if you want), and then and only then, think about the hope / chance of pregnancy and wait and see if my period came. Sadly, it always did - but it locked me in to wondering for a few weeks, vs wondering for a few months. Chances are, with PCOS, that you haven't even ovulated yet. We simply can't go by the "missed period" times that women who don't have PCOS go by.
I agree, I think that I would wait. Those tests are darn expensive and can be addicting too! I've gone for many months (prior to being on Metformin) without a cycle. Actually, after I went off bcp, I went 90+ days until the docs decided to bring on my period with Provera.
I know it's difficult - especially when you are TTC. Have you seen your OBGYN recently? Have they suggested any coarse of action in trying to get pregnant?
Best of luck to you!
PS - The dollar store actually carries pregnancy tests - if you DO want to stock up, you could always go with those. They are cheap AND they work!
I'd wait... If you have been on the pill for a while there is no guarantee you will have a cycle every month.. A lot of us in here (on this board) don't have regular cycles if we aren't on the pill.. I'm not on the pill, I had my tubes tied after my 3rd baby and my cycle isn't regular.. Even before my last baby if I wasn't on the pill I wasn't regular. It's close now, one month i'll start on the 4th, the next one the 4th then the following one the 15th and then I may not have one the following month at all..
Until you have been off the pill for a little while to see what your cycle is going to do on it's own it doesn't make sense to take a test as soon as you are 'late' since you really aren't sure if you are going to be regular anyway..
Hard as it is, I'd wait it out--how late are you? I know it's hard to know with pcos but if nothing by Monday, then maybe test again. Unless you're impatient like me. If the pregnancy hormone is there, the test SHOULD show positive--false negatives are rarer than false positives I think.
Do what will make you feel best--if another test will do it, then by all means, do it. Good luck!
If you want a guarantee, buy a toaster
