I, personally, *LOVE* TOPS. I joined 4 yrs ago-- and I loved my first chapter- they were second family- literally. Here, since teh move, I've not been actuve- as they have one chapter and they meet during the day. I'm a teacher- just not possible.

But, it's more of a support system. You do what works for you- they give you love and support. Of course they have their stuff too- which is great, but you don't have to follow what they give you.

www.tops.org has everything you can imagine about th egroup- and where to find a local one. I suggest going to all the locals ones- because they are so very different. But really, they are fun! :)

2 websites I frequent are:
http://www.soulcysters.com/
http://www.pcos.net/

I have been in your shoes... though it's been a few years. No insurance- weight gain for no reason-- ended up a divorced mom with a baby... and then I began researching. The upside- I did lose the weight- on my own, sorta, but not doctor to help. I joined TOPS (www.tops.org) and I started getting normal as teh weight came off. NOw I'm remarried, and we're going through all the fertility stuff- and my weight is back up. But I know I can beat it all again-- stress just sucks. Don't you give up! If you ever need to talk to someone, I am here- and so is everyone else.

Where I go is an Australian site, but it's a goldmine of resources and info - http://www.posaa.asn.au

I know pcos is scary and all the info out there is really daunting, but it does get better - knowledge is power :)

I agree with everything she said, but I'll give you another great resource. It's called soulcysters and is a forum all about PCOS. Anything and everything that you can think of is listed there. Most of what I've learned, I've learned there. There are also some great books out now for information. If you have specific questions, I'm sure people here would be happy to answer what they can.

I don't know any really good answers, but just wanted to post and say that things will get better, and PCOS, while annoying and sometimes worse, isn't a complete disaster, if it turns out that's what you have. Poke around here and you'll find some people who have become mothers, so it definitely is possible. I think you'll find lots of good advice around here. And coming to SparkPeople is a good first step, since becoming healthier will help you in all of those areas of your life. Good luck and do hang on.

i don't have insurance, so i can't go to a doctor. but my symptoms seem to match up w/ pcos. can people tell me more about it? is it possible for me to get pregnant? are there natural ways to help it? i'm so scared by it. i want to have a baby so much. it's really depressing me. i feel like such a failure because i'm struggling in so many areas of my life (weight/self image, work [or lack thereof]) and now, i can't even ovulate. it's really pushing me over the edge and i feel like i don't have much left to hang on to/for...god. i sound so whiny. sorry, i'm just not in a good place right now and need all the support i can get.
