J270793 - I have the same clothes hanger! I love it, when I have the time (and energy) to unfold it and actually use it.

I'm thinking about getting a dvd off ebay that has a workout program for the total gym. It's the one that they advertise on the infomercial, but it's way cheaper on there. It's supposed to be a full body workout in like 8 minutes a day or something crazy like that.

OK I am sooooooo far behind you guys, but I want in! emoticon

I have this clothes hanger thing (total gym) that I think if I clean it off... and find the instructions... it will do me a lot of good!

So I will commit:
3 different types
3 times per week

And if any of you have this same 'clothes hanger' maybe you cand send me some info about how to make it work.

Ahh, that makes sense, thanks.

Couldn't motivate myself to even touch the dumbells last night, but got on the scale this morning and found I lost 8 lbs! So that's plenty of motivation for a while :)

Bluerose,

I think you only get an email if someone replies to your post.. If you click on the reply at the top you don't.. Since there are so few of us posting in here and sometimes when I enter a day I'm the last post from the other day I just hit the one at the top..

I've been really bad about keeping track and posting, but I'm doing at least 2 sets of dumbell shrugs every night, and push-ups, bicep curls, and sometimes dumbell lateral raises every other night.

I haven't been getting the email notifications for this topic lately - has anyone else had a problem?

Okay, I have been SUCKING with checking in on this thread. HOWEVER, I have been working my arms like mad with my classes. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays I get arm work in. And I'm going to get 6 pound weights (moving up from 5 pounds) and moving to a harder resistance band. YAY!

I definitely see more definition at the top of my arms but still have the jiggle underneath. AGH! Need to work on that.

I actually have pretty fair definition in my biceps (years of constructing theatre sets finally pay off!) but my triceps need a lot of work. Does anyone have suggestions for triceps exercises that they like?

yesterday I went to get my dress fitted for my friend's wedding, while it was very exciting that they are going to have to take about 2-3 inches off the dress, my arms looked like poo!!!
I went home, did bicep curls and tricep things (the back of your arm?)

then I put my weights down and then I picked them back up and did more biceps, more lateral raises, more triceps, more shoulder presses, more seated rows....I just went a little crazy! I wish I had started earlier, but all I can do now is keep it up!

Nat,

I'm from the Northeast. That's not the bowling alley I was thinking of, but it sounds awesome.

Today:

Lateral raises: 10 reps
curls: 15 reps

My arms are in worse shape than I thought!

Nat,

I'm from Philly too! Is this the new bowling place in Center City? I've been meaning to try it.

I got some handweights yesterday, so I don't have much choice but to use them now, I'm too cheap not to!

Hey that's great Nat!!

That bowling alley sounds like FUN!

I can't SEE a difference but the excercises are getting a bit easier.. I finally got my DH to help me measure and did my upper arms.. So I will be able to tell if there is a change..

ok, so I did some exercises yesterday while I was watching ROCKSTAR emoticon

I really don't know how many I did....but I did bicep curls, shoulder presses and lateral raises.

but the fun thing that I have to report is that today I went bowling with work...we were having a division meeting and they decided to try to make it fun. it was actually! here in philly they just opened up a new fun bowling alley that is all fun and funky! ANYWAY, I was bowlling and I was throwing the ball so fast! I really feel like all these arm exercises is making me stronger!!! I was averaging about 14 mph (yeah, this place is amazing! they tell you average speeds!)

anyway, I just had to share...I haven't been faithful on my "no arm jiggles" challenge....but I am still steeing the effects!

BLUEROSES9 - welcome! I've found that using a set of dumb bells that I got at wal-mart works very well. I also have a total gym at home that I use. You can use the exercises off SP with the dumb bells.

Hi, I just joined this team and I'd love to get in on the challenge! Does anyone have suggestions for me? (I'm really new at this, and I'm not sure what most of the exercises mentioned on here are!) I'm also not near any gym, so I'm trying to stick to things that I can do at home.

Thanks!

Thanks Nat... I like the weights... LOL

I really need to get the walking going... All I have to do is go downstairs and get on the treadmill but I don't.. I keep saying that if it was cooler I would get out with the dog but I bet I would come up with another excuse.. I was going to use vacuuming as cardio today and didn't even get that done.. Grrr..

Luv - I've been completely sucking at this challenge lately...along with a few other things that need to be remedied quickly!!! I'm going to start back on this one tonight, after work. It'll be a little slower than normal, cause my arm is still sore from the hours of baseball throwing for the dog on Sunday.

I did mine this morning...
Alternating Bicep Curls
Dumbbell Lateral Raises
Triceps Kick Backs
Dumbbell Shoulder Press
Seated Dumbbell Triceps Extensions
Wrist Curls

I did two sets of 12 each.
And I added another excercise, Dumbbell Side Bends, it's for the core so not part of the 'arm jiggles' but I figure since I'm doing them I'll add them here too..

victory,
start with 2 pounds and just work on the techniques for a few times....then if you are'nt feeling the burn or if you aren't feeling like you are being challenged, try the 5.
be careful with overdoing it at first and hurting yourself!

I had a set of weights that you could change the weight on but I can only find one of them.. So I had been using cans but they weren't even a pound.. I went with the 3 lbs and when those get easy I'll get more.. My son did cans with me the other day so he can use the 3's too...

LOL on no typing.. I couldn't handle that..

Here's the official Webster's definition (in our case, it's definition 4, although #1 is also pretty cool!):

Main Entry: av·a·tar
Pronunciation: 'a-v&-"tär
Function: noun
Etymology: Sanskrit avatArah descent, from avatarati he descends, from ava- away + tarati he crosses over -- more at UKASE, THROUGH
1 : the incarnation of a Hindu deity (as Vishnu)
2 a : an incarnation in human form b : an embodiment (as of a concept or philosophy) often in a person
3 : a variant phase or version of a continuing basic entity
4 : an electronic image that represents and is manipulated by a computer user (as in a computer game)

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.

Hi Ladies!

I also did my exercises yesterday and it felt great! Actually, I have to brag that because we were going to a wine tasting last night, I actually GOT UP EARLY to do my strength exercises. Really, that is quite a shock!

I did: bicep curls, one-arm rows, tricep extensions, front lateral rows, and flys as well as some leg exercises. Each 3x15 reps.

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.

I'm gonna have to agree with you on that one...I'm not doing very well with this challenge at all...or with going to the Y like I should. I'm going to start over next Monday - back on schedule. I can't go tomorrow, thanks to all the freaking closings that got put on my calendar, so I'm going to give myself the weekend to "prepare" and then push myself to start again on Monday...

Hopefully my hands won't hurt so bad by then too. Just typing this little bit is killing me, so this will have to be it for tonight...

(This is me on Monday...) emoticon emoticon emoticon

Haven't done so well with this the last couple days. My wrists have been sore when I get home from my 2nd job, and it's hard to lift weights that way.

Did my workout yesterday but forgot to mention it here. Whoops!

We do arms at Stroller Strides and it changes every time but we did rows with the bands (around a poll), bicep curls, and other fun stuff. The people in the park must think we are all insane!!! :)

Hi Ladies--

I got my arm exercises in last night while watching CSI-- it's my guilty television pleasure. Anywhoo...

I did all of these 3 sets of 15 with a 5lb dumbbell:
Alternating Bicep Curls
Dumbell Tricep Dips
Dumbbell Lateral Raises
Triceps Kick Backs
Kneeling Rows

Feels good today-- a little achy but STRONG. :-)

You can also throw some tofu into a smoothie to, well, make it smoother and give a protein kick.

Jasmine--

It's quite a workout (I couldn't do more than 5 minutes of it) and Nat's right about hurting your back. I did the leg-arms-arms-leg movement (or at least thought I did) but still have some really sore muscles in the middle of my back. My sis rows, so will need to get some tips from her and I'll share. I was glad I was the only one in the room because the position that you sit just makes my tummy stick out like a balloon! But, the place where I felt the workout the most were the muscles in the front of my hips.

luv, I am not sure if you have already eaten, but what I do with tofu is simple, just a simple veggie stirfry with some soy sauce is yummy.

if not, there is a recipe on here that is called "scrambled tofu" which is like scrambled egg. when I do that, i just add use the tofu, veggies, eggs....and more stuff, I haven't done that in a while. but there is a recipe on here.

oh and jasmine, be careful with the rowing machine, if you don't do it right you can hurt your back. it is easy once you know the right way to do it. remember, legs then back, then back then legs. (that didn't make much sense, no?)

Ohhh, the rowing machine. What's that like Jenna? It's always look a bit scary to me!

I did lots of arm work this morning at Stroller Strides - triceps, biceps, and of course, pushing the stroller! :) I'm going to Jazzercise in a little bit where I'm sure to do more. I use 5 pound weights in class and we always do one or two routines of pure weights and then other routines incorporate body weight exercises (pushups, planks, ect.). Wish me luck!

Congrats on all of the armwork, ladies!

I did 5 minutes of the rowing machine today! Hmm.. maybe I should go and buy some soy milk... or tofu.... yum! They do have a pretty tasty soy pudding here, but it's loaded with sugar. :-§

That's what I've heard...I've also heard (from LA weight loss - so believe what you want) that soy protein helps increase skin elasticity, so that helps shrink your skin too.

I worry about it too.. Mainly in my tummy. I already have extra skin and i'm so afraid I won't loose it. I sure wish the DR that did the C-section had done a tummy tuck while he was in there! LOL

Will the excercise really help the skin shrink too?

Curves - I worry about the excess loose skin on my arms/everywhere else, too. I'm already planning on having to have one of those extreme body lifts when I'm all finished with weight loss. I'm scared of that thought, and don't want to do it, but I'm not going to drag extra skin around for the rest of my life.

Hopefully, I can minimize that though, since I do lose weight TERRIBLY SLOWLY, and by working out the entire time!

Good luck to ya!!

My arms may be beyond hope.

I have definite muscle and I am rather strong, but I have lots of loose skin on the backs of them. I even have stretchmarks on my upper arms, so I think I screwed myself with weight gain that my skin could not handle. emoticon emoticon

I will be curious to see everyone's results, though... And perhaps mine will get a wee bit better if I keep at it.

Alternating bicep curl
Dumbbell shoulder press
Seated dumbbell triceps extensions
Dumbbell lateral raises
2 sets each using 15oz cans since I can only find one hand weight.. LOL

I did another excercise too that they were showing on the Today show but isn't in the Spark list..

Smiley, you are welcome to borrow my barnacle, I mean daughter! She is a 21 lb wiggleworm who likes to be carried everywhere lately. She used to love her stroller, but now she gets antsy after 2 miles.

The Fitness tracker is great because you can choose different speeds for walking. I just wish you could also choose a setting for "walking 15/min mile carrying a 21 lb child and 25 lbs of groceries and pushing a 14 lb stroller with a large diaper bag in the basket." Why, oh why do I still have arm jiggle? I'm perplexed.

Sure you can, Smiley. But be warned that he's a squirmy little thing sometimes - although that does make me tighten my muscles and bit more.

Hmmmm. Maybe I should be thanking him. emoticon

You could always give Jim's kids piggyback rides - that's a workout in itself! ;)

i'll give it a shot, by and tris aarea already bulding but still have some over hand that I'd like to fill in with more muscle (chuckles had muscle there but didn't use it for a time and it shrunk on me).

i'll say a min of twice a week, but in reality it likely will be daily since its how I am when it comes to workingout.

as to what to do to help, i can't remember half the names of the deals that I do but they seem to work well enough to tone and build muscle - just have to save enough for more weights, chuckles. My 50 pounders are to light to lift now, and getting the ones that you can add weights to are currently out of my budge range, grumbles.

Jasmine - can I borrow your kid every now and then? Jim's kids are WAY too big for me to haul around all the time...you know, when their feet hang to your knees? I guess it'd be a good work out though, since they each weigh over 50 pounds...

What a great idea! I'm so in! I love the "ever-popular carrying my child everywhere" exercise. I just have to remember to switch arms now and then!

I love it! I'm definitely in. :)

I commit to doing arm exercises (tricep kickbacks, bicep curls, and the ever popular carrying my child everywhere!) at least 3-4 times a week.

I have a strapless dress to wear during a wedding next April and I want people to look at me and say "look at her arms" - in a good way.

Hi Ladies,

- Have you ever whacked a loved one in the face by turning too quickly for your chicken wings to keep up?
- Are your biceps larger than Paris Hilton's waist and less developed than her intellect?
- Do you suffer from the dreaded "sausage arms" in suit jackets?

If so, do we have the challenge for you!!

Nat and I are getting together to start a no-arm-jiggles challenge and we'd love for you to join us!

Just commit to doing X upper arm exercises X times a week from now through the end of November. Soon, we'll be on the way to having lovely arms that will look great just in time for all of those holiday outfits!
