Sounds like a great ride. I have to chuckle our road have a very slight incline. Not enough to even notice unless you are on a bike. By the time I make the end I am huffing and puffing. I am not one with the bike.
I love to hear about your adventures

Saddle sore, but feeling engergzed. Putting on my cool looking mirror sunglasses I hop onto my bike saddle and head out the gate. Construction.. Half the road is missing and the other half is cracked and pot holed. But it is sunny, and I have supper all prepared (lasagna) so I have time to go for a long bike ride. We - my wife and I drive the four miles to the single lane bridge, ah we keep going to the four mile / eight mile viewing spot along the river bank. Do I stop? No even though this is the furthest we have ever gone on this road. We keep going and going to we reach some houses... We come to the house with the huge yellow smiley face hanging on a tree. This is where cell overage ends when leaving town towards the camp.
At this point we turn around. I am not sure what way the wind is blowing. I thought we were facing it but as we return back home it still feels like we are facing it, it is becoming more difficult to make those peddles go round and round.. Are we going up hill? It looks flat and when driving the car I never notice a difference in engine sounds.
I now and then look up to admire the mountain being swallowed by a cloud - just majestic.
I notice the wild roses in bloom as I coast on past splattering the brush along side the road with pink blossoms - not to mention the wild berries that are still in flowering mode.
We are well past the construction zone and I only hear the wind in my ears and the chirping of birds. I must make time to to do this again, but not today as I seem to have sat a little too much on that tiny little seat.

We have them here too. They are very dangerous for sure. Better safe then sorry is the best motto. Enjoy your time off. Today is my Sunday. Back to work with me in the morning.
Yesterday we worked around the yard but today we took the the Corgi boyz on a nice hike and picnic. emoticon

Dalhouise is not a happy camper today.. But I don't care! It is for his own good even though he doesn't understand.
Ring - ring - ring.. Our neighbour phones us.. His dog was killed last night by a cougar. He is phoning to let us know to keep our dogs tied or in the house as this large cougar is hanging around the area - also we must be aware to make sure none of our campers are wandering alone either - safety...
anyways I pick up Dalhouise and carry him back inside the cabin. Later in the morning I go get him and fasten him to the chains I have. One of the staff replied that they have never seen him tied up before.. I replied. It happens now and then. I have one at the cabin entrance and one at the entrance to the dining tent, just for occasions like today. The one by e cabin does get used more often in the middle of the night if Dalhouise decides to wake me up to go outside because I don't want him eaten..
So now he is sitting with me on the swing tied.. I guess this OK .. He is happy to be sitting with me.. ** I am off now - it is the weekend.. Hurray

Glad that you did receive your delivery. It is hard not to stress if you are responsible for the ordering ,meal planning and cooking for everyone.
Enjoy your 3 days off. That must be so refreshing :)
Very very windy here today. I did what I needed to do outside for the morning. Hope it simmers down before I have to go back out to tend the garden and the animals later.
Took some pumpkin puree I put up last Summer out of the freezer .Making some nice chicken stock now. .We will be having some pumpkin soup later ;) Wish I had some of your fresh bread to go with it

Deliver came - delivery came around 8:30 ish we were just finishing breakfast. So all my stress and anxiety was not needed... But I will make sure I stock pile enough food to the future to cover delivery days. Last year we had nothing but issues with them coming late in the afternoon many times, I was told this issue was solve... Sales people are liars.

Today if it is not raining the plan is to rest,do some easy hiking and or do some cycling, keep an eye open for any bears wandering along the road and hopefully see some birds and get a picture of these. Most importantly not to be ran over by any crazy speeding intoxicated car drivers.
Long weekend is here... Hurray.. Pay day was yesterday, I am off for three whole days. I usually fill theses days up with activities - but so far I have no plans other than the above mentioned

That is very stressful. I dislike when things do not run smooth and orderly. I realize we can not control every little thing. BUT...!!!!!! UGh I hope it all worked out. It is a sham e delivery companies are so unreliable :/

Good morning - kind of..
I had a stressful night worried about today's delivery. My lunch ingredients are on that truck.
The truck until last delivery has been arriving around 630 - 8 AM perfect timing. Last delivery truck arrived 12:30 just after guess sat down to eat lunch. I am to be dropped numbers 1- 5 to get here early - I was drop number 9.
What to do if it is late?
I can change menu from perogies to Mac and cheese... So we can feed the 115 people..
Supper is here.. Turkey dinner
Tomorrow's breakfast is here
Tomorrow's lunch I can impervise ..
So should I just refuse this order if it comes late and reorder everything for next Tuesday? .
Long weekend OFF ...???

I am sure the cat would have bun batting them around...

Yesterday I was off and it was sunny after having a week of rain and dark dreary days that reminded me of fall not spring.. Noni and I took a drive to Vancacover with our bikes attached to the bike rack so we could do some cycling around the Sewawall. I think a few other thousand people had the same idea. Yes it was a little crowded but there was lots of room to move about.

Seen some birds also

and some flowers

It was a good day.

I am finish up the cleaning off my work bench. I laid out a necklace to bead before I went to Florida to help my mom. I have been home for over a month and have not yet finished it. I need my bench back to do other projects. HA and I had better get it done before the cat knocks it off

Inspection is over...phew.... I have yet to see the final report, however she said she seen no major violations. That is good. We have a couple of things that need tweeting, nothing of real consequence. I need to buy a cooling wand to cool my soups and sauces quicker, a brighter light in the fridge, raise a shelf higher off the floor, and for me to buy more storage containers to keep mice from contaminating cake pans and slicer. I walked her around and described how we serve - she looked over my menu - I told her he two most high risk items I bring in are the turkeys and chicken and in doing so I told her how I thaw them and store in fridge.
Thinking about it - we actually are a safe kitchen, as Noni told her we eat here too so we are not going to do anything that would cause us not to want to enjoy our meals.

For lunch I served Chinease food - processed - sweet and sour pork, chicken In a sauce, spring rolls, fried rice, stir fried Vegetables (fresh) and a soup.

Supper I am serving beef ribs, chicken breasts, corn on cob, friend rice and home made buns and a salad

The sun is out, it is about 15c and I am relaxing finally.

This morning we went to the condo picked up our extra matteress with a another staff member then back to camp. Tonight we should sleep well with this matteress.
In the mean time I am going to sit outside with Dalhouise and watch the robins and hummingbirds.

Tomorrow the plan is to go to church, then go visit Mom and hopefully take her out for supper.
But right now I must be still, relax, and not think about what I am going to do next.

Ike's .... 161 guess are coming for supper, and staying for breakfast and lunch for the next five days. It is an international group of some kind - new to our camp.
As I look around we are looking pretty good - we are set to go..
Reality for my new dishwashing girls.. Now is the time to develop a routine and listen carefully to the procedures and systems I have been telling them about. It is so hard to teach during staff training as nothing is routine - we cleaned and cleaned the kitchen area / dishpitt area to get it serviceable .. But this afternoon the whys all come into place and hopefully they will understand.
Two very different girls.. One very clever on the ball - the other - well let's just say I think a few cards are missing out of the deck ....
Or is it that parents just failed to teach plain common sense... Can I help / teach this young lady?
Example - I reminder that she needs to fill the sugar container at the coffee station - white normal sugar.. She goes and fills the container with icing sugar...
There has been more of these little funnies with other simple common sense things ..
Oh well she is friendly and seemly happy right now..

Marty, does this mean the robins are back where you live? They stick around down where I am in Virginia. When I see them flock in the winter, I know a snow storm is coming. I have been hearing a lot of singing from them and many others too.

Dalhouise is so happy that we are home - he seems more happy now we are at camp , but that first day when we were packing to come here - Dalhouise thought we were deserting him again even though I told him he was coming with us....

It is that time of year once again.. Back to work. We moved in on Friday morning and been cleaning the camp kitchen getting ready to open. Today Sunday my two kitchen crew helpers arrived and began cleaning and sanitizing fridges - tomorrow's if our plumber comes the process of sanitizing all dishes and pots and salad bar containers will happen, if the plumber does not show -'I will have them wipe all 200 chairs and clean and sanitize tables (24) hopefully the plumber will show... He was suppose to be here on Friday.
Official meal is Tuesday night when all program staff arrive to camp..
25. Staff for the week then a week later the schools come.. And we are busy for the next six months if all goes as plan.

Look what came in my mailbox this day. My lady friend from Ontario sent me a book "Life on Earth by David Attenborough". What I find interesting is that just last night I watched a documentary about said author.. Showing the history of film and wildlife photography from the beginning till now. But look at the envelope.. So many stamps. She had asked the post office to put as many on as possible..
Also I recieved a postcard from her that she bought 40 years ago and was tucked away In a old cookbook from Banff Alberta.
Then I have a postcard from Amsterdam from Mike?

Now my mailbox will have to wait till next Thursday before I can check it again. I think I will be pleasantly pleased when I get home and open it.

Dalhouise sure does look sad and sore. He wobbled out of the clinic like a drunken sailor walking along the wooden boardwalk back to his ship on a Saturday night.
I wanted him to have his needles up to date and that spot on his left hind leg that is still bleeding looked at before I took him to the sitters on Tuesday. Well during the examinanation it was clear even to me that he had a tooth infection that had to be dealt with.. This past month I could tell something was wrong - and there is No way possible he knew we are going away. I only took out the suitcase on Friday so that he wouldn't know it... Well he was coming to me wanting to be hugged. - sit on my lap - hitting me with his paw so I would cuddle him and pet him. He wanted me to make him feel better...
The doctor said he would almost immediately feel relief after the tooth was pulled because it was that badly infected - he actually pulled two.. I was told.
The old age lumps - I don't know what they really are - they were refered as that so - that is what I call them were removed as well. One on his mid back near tail and on his left hind leg.
Dalhouise kept biting the one on his leg and it was always bleeding. I was concer about infections after he swims in muddy ponds / creeks or when he gets rolling around in the dirt. Camp life is paradise for a health dog. Dalhouse is turning 13 on his birthday and he is a very healthy - young at heart dog for his age.. All those kids coming to camp must keep him that way..
I am happy to say as I close - this morning he is looking alittle more chipper.

( send him a get well postcard:)

Not a lot of hking done today. walked around the park with Dalhouise. Walked to the plaza and back again pushing a little cart.. I had to go buy a new car battery. When I came back from our bike adventure in Surrey I accidentally left the dome light on and so the next day I had a very dead battery. I called the motor club and got a boost.. Dave around for an hour and let the car idle for about half an hour.. Turned it off and went to bed. Next day I go try to start the car it is a no go.. Battery is dead again. I had inklings that it was going before and I think this was the last straw with the dome light left on. Thus the walk to go buy a new battery.. Once I got the batter home the plumber was just about to leave from doing a job here on site.. ( do you remember my last month plumbing bills) well I asked him if he would help me change the battery as I don't have tools.. He agreed - nice guy...
The car works now and so we drove got some groceries and I bought a new hand held GPS.
Remember my GPS died when I tried to turn it on on the bike trip to Surrey. I need to have a GPS for Mexico in five days from now..
I didn't buy a better one - same brand and company as the one I had because it was on sale. Discontinued .. So I got it for 89 dollars.. Regular I see was 199.$. I just didn't want to spend so much money right now. Need it for our vacation and property taxes and ultiities tax coming due in the nex 60 days.
Hopefully it will work ok for a year or so..

Today I feel like I accomplished something .. Checking the bank account early I found to my delight that the income tax refund was in.. Hurray... So I was able to pay off the visa and put some money in our RRSP s for next year tax breaks and some into our savings... Then I went and did some banking for my mother at the bank and while I was there I put some money into one of my account to pay for my life insurance policy that is due in April. Next it was a stop at Service Canada to print out the application for my wife's permanent resident card that is due this year and then over to Walmart to get pictures for this application. Did a stop at the drug store to get a copy of Mom's prescriptions tax report receipt and then a drive to the accountants office so that Mom can get her taxes done. Earlier in the day I collectd all her receipts and papers. Now it is out of my hands - hers is more complicated than mine and so I did not want to make mistakes.
I walked Dalhouise to the post office where I mailed a couple of postcards and bought some stamps and postcards already stamped so that I can mail more. (Hint)

Going to work.. I havent said that in awhile. But tomorrow morning I must wake up and get ready to go to work. Over the winter the kitchen has grown a covering of mould to keep warm I guess. So before the fire inspector comes in, before the maintence man can come in and repair broken pipes, before the fridge maintence company comes in to do a cleaning -- I must come in and remove the mould..
Wonderful...
Today I went and bought a safety mask because I am going to wash the kitchen with bleach..
I have a solid day of scrubbing to do.. I am going to be so tired tomorrow night...

Made time ths day to take the car into the service center for its spring semi annual maintence and winter tires removal.. Shopping for the supplies to cook Mac and cheese for fifty people at church Sunday and to go for a two and half hour bike ride and a visit with Mom. I guess it was a successful day... I even BBQ supper for Noni and I. I did some birding while riding our bikes and came across this unknown duck.. It looks like a Mallard hybrid cross with either a Green wing Teal or Wigeon..

supper BBQ

almost got stopped

spring is here

must not forget winter

come on

Dalhouise next week goes to the groomers

I think the purchase of the bike rack might be my best decision in a long time. It is easy to put on and take off the car. More importantly is the fact that it is extremely easy to load the bikes onto it and off.
As I drove down the highway I kept an eye in the rear view mirror making sure the bikes were still with us. Stress.. But no need to be fretting about that.. When we arrived at our designation about 43 miles from home.... All was well - fastened just as I left home.

The day was cold and overcast, but there were no uphills to deal with. Yesterday's ride was more up than down and Noni did not like it at all - I was not too happy either but I took it in stride figuring I was burning more calories going up. However it sure was pleasant driving along flat dikes and seeing the sights.

This day was suppose to be sunny and 17c ... I don't know what happened because it was cold and overcasted and slightly windy. The good thing was I was dressed for it.. I was chided by my wife when we left home from Squamish, that I was overly dressed.. I proved to be the one warm and cozy as we biked today in Steveston. I have been wanting to do this now for a few years and with our new bike rack - this was the day to do so with the false pretences of a hot sunny day getting me going. Of course I had the GPS - I get to geocache and bike and do some birding all in the same day... Can life get any better? I ask myself.
The only thing that made it better.. I actually found some caches, and seen some birds and the riding was not all uphills. Life is so good.

So I bought the bike rack but so far it remains inside my car. But that is ok because I did go for a hour walk with the Dalhouise and then this afternoon went biking riding with my wife for two hours. Man there is a lot of up hills compared to the down hills.
In the sun it was very warm - but the shaded areas sure were cooler.. Should I wear my jacket or not... One moment I was too hot then I was chilled to the core. For awhile I took off my outer heavy jacket and tried to pedal to keep warm but that wind.
Oh that wind howled in my ears... Litteraly howling so loud .. and cold on my chest and stomach.. So back on went my jacket - and it felt so warm and cozy.

The sun is shining brightly yesterday and today..
I did cook a breakfast for 30 men on Saturday but only half actually showed up.. So I had lots of left over food that was given away to one of the families that need some extra help..
I was teased about serving the quiche - you know real men don't eat quiche ...
Then I came home and slept two and half hours... I really was not feeling well .. And so once more I lost a sunny bright day.. I manage a short walk with Dalhouise ... Noni took him out earlier in the morning for a long walk..
Today I woke up before the set alarm .. With the time change I wanted to make sure I was not late for church.. Walked Dalhouise then managed to get to church on time.. I think many others did not make the time change as we had a lot of free space today.
Now I am in the process of deciding what to do this afternoon.. I am hoping for a bike ride..
But I am still feeling slightly out of sorts.. But I don't want to waste this afternoon.

What happened to yesterday? I don't know.. I did go,for a Dalhouise walk, I went to my appointment to the eye doctor for my annual four year check.. Yes I was scolded for that he wants to see me every two years. I went now because I know I needed new reading glasses..no choice. Then the day was gone..
Today I have plans to go to Vancouver .. I was asked by my employer to go pick up at the kitchen supply place the new sink and tables he ordered. My kitchen is getting a face lift.. Hurray! Since I want to get some new pots and other trinkets, I will gladly go especially since he is paying for the gas and items..
I will also stop in at one of the supper stores to buy some food for the men's breakfast I was asked to cook for. I have said no on a couple of occasions ... But the man who was going to do it made other plans and backed out after the church organized this function ... So in desperation they asked me to help -- what can I do? I said yes.. And so now I must shop and prepare this meal. Tomorrow about thirty men will be coming - that is not so bad - but the churches kitchen sucks... That makes it difficult to cook..
I have decided to cook and serve .. Oatmeal - bacon - sausage - hashbrowns - Eggs probably scrambled and pancakes. My wife will make cinnamon buns for me to bring later today.

I need to get ready - gotta go to camp to pick up the camp van as my car is too small for the new tables and sink.. I will bring Dalhouise with me so he can run a it before I bring him back home and pick up Noni. Then into the big city we go..
Have a good day everyone.

I was surprised when my wife got dressed and was ready to go walking with me this morning.
Normally I walk alone with Dalhouise around ten.
Well today the three of us went hiking together. Cool at first but soon we boh were unzipping as we warmed up walking in bright sunshine.

The scenery was pretty amazing.
Bird sightings were alittle scarce but still rewarding..

Today the family - Noni and Dalhouise and I went shopping in Vancouver, eating at our now not favorite restaurant and then hiking with a mission to locate a geocache. Lighthouse Park - a beautiful place but our hearts were going thump thump, thump .. Up up up the trail went, then we took this other path that was not a main trail but the GPS said to go that way.. It was up and over bare rock where both Noni and Dalhouise slipped.. Then we had to go down this slippery steep path that almost didn't seem even like a trail.. Eventually we came upon a large trail .. We walked on giving up the idea of finding a cache as the distance now was indicating further away, and we were not going to turn back I that route we just came from. Just hiked on enjoying the sun and wilderness until we came to the shoreline of the coast.
I have been here before so I knew where we had to go to get back to the car ... Off we go.
Once we arrived at the paring lot I give Noni the keys and tell her to rest with Dalhouise as I wanted to go look for this cache one more time. I move at a fast pace back to the General location of cache where we had became disoriented ... I stop to catch my breath... And the GPS begins to settle down - I am about ten feet from it. I look high and low and zap there it is.

It was a good day

Who am I ? What do I do?

We work at a children's camp. Spring and fall we have school groups come to learn team work and bonding or year end field trip. Summer is straight fun summer camp activities. I am in charge of managing the kitchen the owner just wants to come and eat and pay the bills everything else is left to me. I plan the menu - order supplies - keep a record of stock - cook all soups, sauces, entrees and also prepare and cook all special need menu items such as vegitarian, gluten free, egg and dairy free special needs..
My wife does all the baking and prepares food for a 30 - 40 item salad bar every lunch. I also help her with prep for this too
We make 90% of all our food from scratch.
We have home made bread every day - home made soup every lunch.
Ths sounds like a lot? It is... But we do it for six months with a few days off here and there. I am good at multi taskng but I do become grumpy as I tire out. However it is very satisfing to me to see happy faces eat my food.
We cook roast beef, Turkey, chicken, ham dishes.. Tacos, Mac and cheese ( not Kraft dinner but the real thing) we have a BBQ meal, grilled cheese with tomato soup, chicken fingers ( processed) you get the idea.
I make soup from the stock of the beef or chicken turkey meals and gravy all fresh.
If you are serving beef gotta have some Yorkshire pudding.. Yes I do that too and this is for children ...
I love my job other wise I would not be doing it ... But I get so tired by the end of next fall.

I contacted my friend who has been posting pictures of the Great Gray Owl. At first he was hesitant of telling me where.. Must have felt guilty because he called me late last night and gave good directions of where he has been seeing it. I wake up several times in the night with anticipation because of this new information. Up at six am - I am out the door just before seven and on the trail by 0710 hr hours. I walk with much hope building and failing as I begin to think I won't see it. I turn my head and there it is... I get two quick pictures before it flies away.. I am so pleased, so full of joy.... I seen it, that is all I needed and a picture as proof.
Later in the morning when walking with my wife we seen it again and Once again I was able to quickly snap a few more photos. I am a happy happy camper...

Out the door to drive to the Estuary.. I have heard reports that a Great Grey Owl has been spotted in the area. People are being careful not to mention the exact spot.. So I went hiking at dusk last night two trails and then this morning I went out again and rehiked the two and another one. The last trail looked more promising with many ever green trees. No luck..
Nevertheless I enjoyed the hike.
It is a strange feeling last night walking in the woods in darkness. Oh the thoughts of bears, cougars, wolves and other things that go bump in the night..... That entered my mind..
Then I began thinking about the people who are about to through hike the PCT trail or the Appalachian trail. Months of wandering in the wilds - that would be scary..

Someone turned off the heat in the desert. It was freezing rain/snow this morning. After work I brought in plenty of fire wood and canceled my appointment up in the mountains.
Filled up the bird feeders and put more suet out for them. Birds are like spoiled children LOL
I have not been to a Chinese New Year celebration in years. Sounds like so much fun!

Finally I was able to sleep in a little longer... Then at 7am I heard squak squak squak... The Stellar Jays are on my balcony squaking like spoiled hungry children. I got up out of my nice cozy warm bed before they woke my wife.. I go to the balcony door and throw a handful of peanuts out onto the floor. Now they become shush and all is peaceful once again.

We have had such bad rain storms - my glass balcony door is almost impossible to see out of on the lower level... I need and must clean this today and sweep up all the cracked sunflower seed shells..

I might even get the scissors out and go cut the grass growing in my flower pots. :)

Yesterday I -
Spent several hours walking and sitting in Vancouver. Chinese New Year parade brought us to the big city and then we walked around afterwards looking and investigating different markets. Who needs to travel thousands of miles to get a taste of China when it is right in your backyard. On the other hand... This is only a taste of the real thing thousands of miles away - just wetting the appetite - a tease. Hmmmm I wonder if a future vacation to China should be in the making or not.

Finally went to Wallmart and bought the Niger seed sock. Hung it and now I wait to see if any finches or Siskins come to feed.
And - last night we boiled some sugar and water.. This morning early I hung a hummingbird feeder. I think it is early... But last week I did have a lone hummingbird come and check out my sunflower feeder that is red. So if he came once he might still be around and I would be pleased to feed him.

While buying the sock ... I bought a couple of gifts for my wife .. Don't forget Valentine's Day

Cabin Fever... Finally this depressing winter time feeling is upon my wife and I. We have a vacation planned for the first week of April but that is a long time away.
We are sitting in our chairs bored.. TV is boring, Noni is getting bored watching her YouTube videos on baking.. I get out for walks but I don't stay out all day.. Maybe I ought to stay out longer... But that is selfish.. Noni is at home bored...
Camp our employment start up date is mid April ... Then we will be longing for time off...
Our funds are low right now.. Otherwise I would plan a Road Trip. .. Might go on one regardless because we are bored.

It's Almost Bird Count Time!

The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) begins this Friday, February 13! Count birds for just 15 minutes, or count all 96 hours until the end of Monday—just be sure to count!

The GBBC broke records in 2014—with more than 140,000 people from 135 countries counting more than 33 million birds. Help us achieve even bigger numbers this year!

Read the GBBC 2015 preview—including the latest on winter finch movements and international birding expectations—on our All About Birds blog. Then get ready to count later this week. Registration is free and easy. If you've counted in the GBBC since 2013 or if you participate in another Cornell Lab citizen-science project, you're already registered...just count and have fun!

Poor Dalhouise! My dogs go bonkers when we listen to things like that too. We often have on wildlife show and Bisbee will sit and watch them. It cracks us up. They also both go insane when we are camping and the elk bugle . Silly dogs. Easy to see why we fall in love with them :)

I checked out the link .. I listened to several bird songs and my dog went crazy. First time I played it he was sleeping on the footstool and he sat up and stepped on me to see where the sound was coming from - so I played it again and he stuck his nose next to the speakers...
A few times doing this he hopes on the floor and looks under my chair ... Then I stopped - it is too early to tease Dalhouise.

Howdy, folks! Just dropping in to see how goes it with my Backyard Birdwatchers! Where are you located? Your signatures don't really say. I'm in NC and usually have a tad bit warmer weather than we've been, but it could be tons worse, so I try not to complain.
My feeder has been full of house and gold finches, chickadees, tit mice, cardinals and mourning doves. (And the occasional squirrel!) I really need to have my maple tree trimmed ( preferably by a professional) to keep the squirrels from being able to drop into the feeder!
Hope y'all are well. Be careful with all the snow shoveling!!

Today is my work week Monday. Hubby's truck died about 5 minutes from the house this morning had to go get him and bring him home to pick up another vehicle. I guess we will be towing that home when he gets off work.He thinks it is most likely the fuel pump We are having another chilly rain day here .Which is better then snow and we can always use the moisture in the desert.
The birds are chirping away in the feeder area. I am snuggled up near the fire for the moment. Will have to head out soon to feed the critters.
Have a great weekend

A very windy day today. I had to go check on one of my dams and got to see a huge group of Canada geese. I watched them for a while before I got blown away. I was on the top of the dam and they were in a nice little cove. A lot warmer in my truck.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! It is supposed to be much nicer here in VA than it was supposed to be, so I am going to get out with the kids and enjoy it.

Taking a deep breath......

Oh what a day it was.. I am so thankful I moved from Ontario to BC. We - my wife and I went on a hike, my blog says it all.. But to post on my team page I will limit and reshare.
A two hour hike became a five hour hike ending in sore feet and physical exhaustion but feeling good.
Why am I so thankful - I don't remember too many hikes in a light sweater nor picnics in January along any unfrozen snow covered lakes.
How did a two hour hike become a five hour hike... I blame it on geocaching..

The day ended with my wife holding hands, and still talking to me.. That makes for a good day in my books

It was nice enough here yesterday that I was able to work in the yard for several hours. The goats were so happy with all the leaves and goodies I brought them while raking. I am hoping to get out there again today. Then it will get cold again. But at least I will be a few steps closer to planting when the time come :)

This morning it looked overcast, grey, not so inviting to go out hiking.. So made the decision not to hike the 10 km trail around Burnaby Lake. Maybe tomorrow, Noni wants to come too.. But we will leave the Dalhouise home.. That is the plan ...
So today it was a walk to Willow Park, and around the bloc, with Dalhousie who seems to be still suffering from yesterday's long walk. After the walk leaving Dalhouise home - it was Noni and my first swim of the year in the local swimming pool. Now my arms are a little sore but I do notice ... I seem to have a spring in my step - I have more energy each day... I don't have this at the end of the day.. It is exhaustion by the time I get in bed and fall asleep when my head hits the pillow

I almost never have a real camera with me. Just the one on my phone. I often wish I did have the camera. It is just to much for me to carry around. What kind of a camera do you use. I would love to have a bigger lens .The biggest one we have now is only 150 mm.

Yesterday owl sighting was in the same area as before. But today as I rode my bike imseen two cars pulled ove and two men with cameras at the side of the road. I coast on up and ask what they are taking photos of.. They pointed to the owl... I begin to take pictures as well. Yes I have my camera hanging from my neck - you never know when a photo opportunity will present it self - do you? And this was it.
Then one of the men started talking to me, it was my new friend Tim.. I thought so but was t quiet sure.. His pictures are alway good usually better than mine.. He looks at my camera we are using the same ... But he has an apdator lense with a poloride. This helps a lot he says and for me to google it - he says it is not too expensive either... I must look into that.

Heavy - heavy rain - raining dogs and cats .. It was so heavy I did as little walking outside today as possible. I took out the Dalhouise for a short time - later I took him to the beach and opend the car door and let him run.. He runs down the beach path while I drive on the road..
Lazy me... But it is raining so friging heavy.

Good luck, that is frustrating ! Our snow vanished as quickly as it came. I am still hoping for it to warm back up a bit .Last week it was near 70* today it started out in the 20's and is now in the 40's I mo longer like cold weather. I swear snow shoeing would kill me .I am such a weenie I have only done the bare minimum today .LOL

Thank you for the tea.. I needed that after my snowshoeing excursion..
Well it happened again.. But... I took Dalhouise out for an earlier walk and recorded my steps when finished at 3000 before we left the house to go snowshoeing. When I came home it read only 1750 steps... So now I know.... I am thinking it might get reset when Iam in the car as it is on the seat buckle side where it clamps in. I will try a different side and see if that makes a difference.

Hope you feel better and that your workers will get the work done quickly. My daughter found a good pedometer app on the cell phone. I have been using that . My old one would reset all the time. As long as I clip my phone on I have been doing very well tracking my steps. It was cold and nasty here yesterday so we stayed in our pajamas ans had a totally relaxing day working on puzzles .We did walk the corgi boyz up to the mailbox twice in our PJs lol good thing there are few neighbors out here.

Last night I looked at my old fashion pedometer and it read only about 1700 steps... That can not be true... It must had gotten reset some how during the day. I had walked Dalhouise earlier in the day that would had been at least 2000 steps right there and then I was geocaching in the afternoon - that I believe would had brought me close to ten thousand steps alone..
Today I am not sure what will happen - we have the plumber coming this morning to fix broken sinks, drains and to remove a broken garburator and to instal our new dishwasher. How long will this take? I have no idea. Then I think by afternoon the rains will be upon us so that will limit my outdoor activity, especially right now as this cold bug will not let go completely. This nasty dry cough came just when I thought I was healed ...
My mood is better though at the moment... I do hope I get to hike and geocache Burnaby Lake before th end of January though...

Sounds like a nice day. After work I was out shopping . I picked up more suet cakes and a thistles sock. Maybe I can lure some one new in with the later. I can not remember if we have eve put one of them out before .The feathered visitors seem very happy with the suet. It is snowing out today .

Work - I have several thoughts running through my head - I will stay positive....
I am unemployed right now - if nothing pops up before 15 April it will remain my case. But it is good to know I have a return date... And then all my time is living breathing my work. I love my job... Don't get me wrong - but it is all consuming for six months and my other life gets put on hold....
But I have a good life because of it so I will not complain...

I am home... Went to the store and it was closed on Mondays.. Then got loss...
EVentually we found our destination Piper Spit at Burnaby Lake.
Once agai lots of Mallard Ducks, Wood Ducks, Dowitchers, Green Wing Teal, spotted Toehees
Great Blue Heron, Common Merganser, Canada Geese, American Coot, and Red-wing Blackbirds.
We walked the trails for two hours and ten minutes roughly..
I found Eight caches... So this was definetly a successful Geocaching day for me.. Could not find two that we searched for though.
To finished the day we went to Swiss Chalet for lunch and supper meal as one. I was hungry.
Now it is time for a shower and go to bed...
I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

I have birds here almost all day. We mostly get an assortment of little finches and sparrows. With a splash of pyrrhuloxia.I also have ravens and Grackles stop in occasionally to kick up some fuss.Lots of White wing doves. They line the wires in the neighborhood. You can always tell when it is time to for someone to feed their chickens.Come Spring we will start to get a prettier variety of birds and the humming birds come back. But to see the really pretty birds here you have to get into the higher elevations.

I have it bad.....
Here I sit starring out the glass balcony door waiting for the first birds to arrive at my feeder. Waking up so early in the darkness I swepted up old shells and placed them in a flower pot.... Birds will now dig in this and make more mess later for me to clean again... But in doing somtheynwill find some tastie seed missed from before. I refilled two different seed feeders.
And now I wait... And wait.
I have my little field notebook at hand ready to record my sightings.. I see that in the past birds begin to arrive around 0801. - to 0815. And then they keep coming off and on most the day pretty steady. They seem to arrive minutes apart once they start arriving...
It is now 0810 and still no birds....

I was born and raised in NJ now I am in NM .All the birds are different here too .Heck the birds are all different 30 miles from where I live due to the increase in elevation. I had to get a new book and have fun trying to figure them out.It sort of makes it a new sport. I wish I had the time to watch like I did when I was younger. Now I am for the most part happy just hearing them at the feeders.
