Oh for mashed potatoes, I add 1/2 potatoes and 1/2 cauliflower or 1/2 celeriac (celery root). (Knobbly looking thing) and stock. It really helps with the GI rating too. Pumpkin, applesauce, zucchini or overripe pears regularly get tossed into all kinds of baked goods from pancakes, to muffins and I've even tried a pumpkin pastry. Tasty - but limited because of its texture. I've added quite a few to spark people.

I brought some guar gum to thickened my own salad dressings and gravies. I think it has less calories that using flour in the gravy. The best gravy that I made I used some flour and some guar gum. Homemade lo-calorie salad dressings are usually thin and runny.... the guar gum thickened the dressing up a bit.
I woke up from a beautiful dream and found out I was NOT Oprah!! I had to clean (no maid) AND cook (no chef)!!! Life can be a bummer!! LOL I think they call it exercise!!!

When I make a rice dish, I will always add a combination of nuts (sliced almonds, pistachios, pine nuts) flax seeds, and last night I added both chia seeds and hemp seeds. The DH and kids love rice so it goes over well always and they are getting more nutrition than they need to know about. Also add tumeric (which is supposed to be quite healthy) and I have added small amounts of assorted seaweed which I love, (but the kids tend to pick that out). Hope this gives you some new Ideas for stir frys w rice.

hello and like you i am always trying to think of ways to adapt.if i am cooking for my family then it is usually like you in adding more vegtables. as my older son is not alloud low fat milk products.i would then find ways of reducing the sugar contents,or for a cheese topping instead of totally cheese go half cheese and the other half a mixture of bread crumbs,seasam and nut to help cut the fat context.if i was making just for me it would be the usual swaps.low fat cheese,low fat milk.yogurt state cream,less sugar.half fat butter,half meat ,half lentil or beans etc.you get the idea.hope this helps.
