Have you ever had a moment when you felt sooooooo hungry and the evil voices begin to say, eat, eat, eat?
I know I've mentioned it before and I don't know about you but sometimes I get tunnel vision and forget about these things. Anyway, as I sit here typing this in I am sipping on a cup of hot chicken broth. I was really hungry and it's taking the edge off my hunger. And if you've got a cold or the flu, Chicken soup is good for you and has healing properties...I have another one and that's Nestles Carb Select FF cocoa mix. It has 4 grams of sugar if you're avoiding sugar. Then there is always the hot cup of tea with Splenda (if Splenda doesn't trigger hunger for you)

I found this page on the web that lists meals for 300 and pictures so we can see correct portion sizes. It's worth a look..

I'll tell her about the EAS.

The sugar in Slim Fast was an issue for me too.

My doc recommended the HMR shakes, soups, and oatmeal.

They are SO good and thick!

The problem with Slim Fast is there is too much sugar which makes you hungry. The EAS shakes have 17 grams of protein, 110 calories and not much sugar. The second thing is that you can only have two to stay under 500. I started with Slim Fast and quickly switched to EAS when someone told me about them. emoticon

Anyone ever use Slim Fast Optima or High Protein Shakes on their DD?

I'm using HMR but, a friend of mine was asking. She's not on Spark People and is temporarily computerless.

I said I'd ask "the board" and see what people say.

I read in someone's post about this Scandinavian crispbread for 12 calories each, 7 carbs but 5 fiber so net 2 carbs. I took two pieces 24c, 1 tbsp light cream cheese 35c. Then I got my Walden's chocolate dip and added that to my sandwich for a total of 59 calories with 10 grams of fiber. This is going to be a great tool for down day or low calorie, low carb days. For breakfast I had that and a slice of bacon for 69c. Total for breakfast, 128 calories. If i ate 4 of those on a down day I would only come in at 236c. Or 295c for 5. 3 meals and 2 snacks. 40 grams of fiber should keep you from hunger..Walden's dip is 0 calories, 0 carbs. emoticon

I get these tortillas for 50 calories, 10 carbs, 7 fiber (net 3 carbs) and I put Guacamole dip for 40 calories (2 tbsp)inside and I'm getting my fiber in there too. Then for lunch, a can of water based tuna 150 calories, add Waldens ranch dip or a little Waldens salad dressing (zero calories, zero carbs) and that is very filling. Then I have light cream cheese 60 calories that I dip in Waldens chocolate sauce (total 300 calories) and a EAS shake for 110 calories, 17 grams protein and it's a great down day. On an up day I add a cube or two of Cheddar Cheese to my tortilla...I can do this by finding the right foods and keeping track of what I'm eating...

I'm finding that 2 100 calorie high protein shakes along with 3 eggs and maybe a couple bites of tuna is the best way for me to do my down days...it keeps me pretty full and I also drink a big glass of water 30 minutes before I eat and that helps too.

Food on my Down Days,

On down days, my focus is to get as much of my RDA of protein as possible,
along with a bit of fiber.

Most of the time for breakfast,
I eat an oatmeal/eggwhite muffin I make in the microwave, which contains:
13.9 grams of protein, which is 38% of my protein
RDA,
3.34 grams of fiber, which is 16% of my fiber RDA,
and 143 calories.

The remainder of the day, I switch around between

1/2 cup of Total 0% Fage Greek Yogurt,
which has 10 grams of protein which is 24% of my RDA,
and 60 calories.

1 scoop of Designer Whey Protein Powder,
that I usually mix with 2 TB of sugar-free syrup
and bake into a cookie in the microwave,
which has 18 grams of protein, which is 44% of my RDA,
and is 100 calories.

Sometimes I'll have 2 oz of skinless, roasted chicken breast,
which has 17.5 grams of protein, which is 43% of my RDA,
and is 108 calories.

Sometimes I'll have 1 oz of Cabot 75% reduced fat cheddar cheese,
which has 9 grams of protein, which is 22% of my RDA,
and is 60 calories.

To supplement those foods, sometimes I'll also have

5 raw mushrooms,
which have 2.78 grams of protein, which is
7% of my RDA,
0.9 fiber, which is 5% of my fiber RDA,
and 25 calories.

2 oz of raw stringless sugar snap peas
which have 1.33 grams of protein, which is 4% of my RDA,
1.33 grams of fiber, which is 7% of my fiber RDA,
and 36 calories.

2 oz of raw baby carrots
which have 0.677 grams of protein, which is 2% of my RDA,
and 35 calories.

Occasionally I'll choose to substitute other low-cal foods for any or all of the foods listed above.

I weighed this morning and only lost a couple of ounces. So I hope to lose a little more with tomorrows down day. I really want to lose 1 more pound to be at my Oct 1st goal of 219.

Today is my DD. I think I am the opposite of several of you UD/DD wise. Oh well, so far so good. My scale says I have lost 9 lbs this week so far. My weigh in is Monday so we shall see, but I am amazed at the results I am getting. I am keeping up my exercise too so I'm sure that is helping.

I had Campbell's Light Italian-Style Vegetable Soup for lunch, the whole thing had 100 cals, and I ate it all even though it was supposedly two servings at 50 cals each. It was good. For dinner I had a 4 oz piece of cod (80 cals)and a can of mushrooms(two servings totaling 60 cals) and I splurged on half a tblsp of butter to cook it in for 50 more cals. I had veggie juice for breakfast (69 cals in 12 oz) and have been sipping on water with two packets of K2O protein water (30 cals each), so I am up to 455 cals. That gives me room for a slice of turkey (25 cals) or a wedge of laughing cow light cheese (35 cals) later if I am hungry. All in all I feel like I have had a regular day instead of a down day so that is good. I feel like I have had plenty to eat.

I made it through yesterday with
457 cals
73 carbs
7 g fat
38 g protein

I really enjoyed my sliced smoked turkey (25 cals a slice) with a wedge of laughing cow cheese light (35 cals) wrapped up with some lettuce. Pretty yummy. The soup was a wash...it was not yummy so I didn't eat it. I opted for a skinny cow fudge bar at 100 cals which may not have been as good nutritionally, but was much more satisfying, lol.

Now for my UD...starting with coffee!!! emoticon

Coke zero! I forgot I could have Coke Zero! That is a nice treat added to my plan for the day. I have already had 8 cups of water. I usually try to get in 12.I skipped my coffee today because I hate it black and I just wasn't willing to use my calories for milk or creamer today, lol. This thread is very helpful. Thanks.

I made it through my second DD relatively easy today.
I had 3 whey protein shakes 120 a piece, activia yogurt 110 calories, 3 baby dill pickles 5 calories a piece. Total 485 calories. I was going to have an apple but I realized I am not hungry for it.
I have already planned my UD tomorrow. I am having berry cheerios for breakfast, McDonalds chicken and pickle sandwich and small fry and for dinner mac and cheese or tuna salad not sure which one yet.

Hey everyone! I was reading through these and it seems like there's a lot of things you need in your fridge etc.

I'm a college student and live in a dorm ie: very very small fridge. I really like the idea of doing lettuce wraps with a slice of meat inside (for dinner). However, I was wondering what things I could bring with me to eat during the day (ie: between classes). The only thing readily available on campus for me is fruit and more fruit. Is there anything else to make things easier?

I was thinking about bringing apple slices around or a banana but what do people do for variation when they go to work etc?

For dessert, I have a low fat yogurt w/120 calories.

I had 409 calories today.

Going to start keeping track of my DD calories. I like many of the ideas I see here. Going to go to store and buy some chicken and fixings for a salad to go with it. Too hot to cook anyway. Gonna have to go buy measuring spoons and cups

ok, thanks!
I've seen them before but didn't pay much attention to them. I'll check them out next time I'm at walmart.

They are little container's of a milky liquid - that I use on my DDs to help take the edge off my hunger for the day.
You can check out their web site at... www.slimshots.com

You can get them at Wal-Mart and Walgreen's.
I only take one a day....after breakfast and only on my DDs.

They seem to be working...I have been able to keep my DDs under 500 calories ever since I have been using them.
They don't taste bad at all...to me they have a nutty flavor.

My DD calories are 483 today. I had salads and grilled chicken breast for lunch and will have the same for dinner. I never get tired of that combo. Also had 1 slice (55 cal) of bread and 1 ff cheese slice (35 calories) in the morning to take my meds with. Otherwise they upset my stomach. It was quite easy to get back into the DD's because I remembered to cut back on my diabetic meds those days. Sure would be nice to get off of them completely.

Coming in at 486 calories on my second DD. My main protein was tuna on a tossed salad. Not one of my favorite things, but I made it a little more interesting with some green relish and fat free Italian dressing stirred in before dumping it on the lettuce. Have to get busy and grill up some more chicken breasts on the George Foreman tomorrow. I usually do up a whole bag of them and then freeze in packs of 2 to have ready for other days. It helps to have things ready made for myself and then I'm not so tempted to have the higher calorie stuff the rest of the household is eating.

Today was my first DD in quite awhile. I stuck with grilled chicken breast on tossed salad and .5 cup of cottage cheese. I waste 60 calories for the coffee creamer in my coffee every day, but no way I can give it up for black. Worth every cup. Came in at 459 calories today.

Susanz, thanks so much. You look beautiful. I can't wait to re-adjust my goals. (once I make the first one). Is it possible for me to get THIN, and not just overweight? But this plan does seem to work. Everyone is noticing. I love that my neck is appearing again. Really, thanks for taking the time to encourage me. It really helps.
Welcome Newbie JUSTENEM and good luck. (you can do it! ) God Bless, Jude

Hi all. I was successful yesterday with my fast. Today is a regular DD. So far, just coffee, tea, and one cup of saurekraut in one cup of broth. The kraut is about 15 calories, and it really curbs appetite. I recommend it. It nice to have a big bowl of something and have it count for little calorie wise. God Bless you all today, Jude emoticon

I am editing now. I made a huge pot of fresh veggies steamed in Hunts Diced Tomatoes. I added shriataki noodles and parmasean, and I am full. Ending the day at 459, but may have a glass of wine later. I am feeling so different. Clothes are getting loose. Happy happy. God Bless, Jude
