I don't have a problem with non-caloric sweeteners unless they trigger people.

I never do caloric beverages, but sometimes the stevia just makes things a little sweeter!

I would love sweetened tea but don't drink it that way. It's a no-no with my doctor. No calories from beverages unless it's dairy.

Well, I kinda like lima beans--and chicken livers, especially sauteed in bacon fat! Just bought some of that incredible Trader Joe's bacon today and will be cooking it tomorrow. Yeah, the sweet tea thing is problematic. I like mine unsweetened, but at trivia the other night, both my refills came sweet! I corrected the waiter on the first one and just didn't drink the second. While I am IN the South, I am not FROM it--Philly is my hometown. I confess to liking the flavored stevias in coffee and tea. Tonight I just want to EAT. I'm not really hungry, but some almonds and a little maple sugar have passed my lips. I need to get better control tomorrow. I think starting the day with lots of fat will make me less hungry all day. Didn't do that today.

ROFLMBO!! I won't be getting into the liver or lima beans either. Ick!!

I have had friends who have had bypass surgery and they gained a lot of the weight back.

Moderation is the problem with foods you enjoy/love.

Maybe it's just buy food you absolutely hate, then you only eat to survive (live). No chance of me ever over eating liver and lima beans...lol

Not to mention I LOVE playing in the kitchen, experimenting with recipes...

Remember those schick shadel places where smokers went to quit, they were shocked every time the took a puff? I don't think that would work, food and emotions are stronger.

Even people who have had the gastric bypass surgery get fat all over again!

I understand completely. There are certain comfort foods from my childhood that are hard for me to think that I can never eat again. Unfortunately, I don't think gluten free frankenfoods can satisfy my urge for real biscuits and gravy or chicken and dumplings. They say to concentrate on what you can have and not what you can't and I do try but sometimes you sit there with your roasted low glycemic veggies and baked chicken and what you really want is what the other dude is having. It seems rather unfair to me that all of us can't eat whatever we want....... in moderation. LOL.

Linda I know, right... I think I'm such a creature of habit, it's hard to stop wanting what I've always had, like sugar substitutes... I wish I could just embrace unsweetened tea, coffee. I'm so used to them, it's hard to wrap my mind around giving them up, same with foods that sub for gluten and so on...

You're from the south,I bet it would be difficult for many there to give up 'sweet tea'.

I've done just water and after a few days, I do start to lose the sweet tooth, but then I'll make say stir fry with sweet n spicy sauce which I have always used the artificial sweetener in, and I fall back into using too much fake/replacement sugar all over again :-(

Gluten free pancakes with sugar free syrup, on and on, it's a vicious circle! Oh I want to cuss...lol

Interesting. I've used Vital Wheat Gluten for some things in the past, but it seems kinda crazy to have a gluten-free gluten substitute to me! I guess it could be useful, but I wouldn't expect similar results with gluten-free baking. I think sometimes we need to embrace things for what they are instead of trying to make them just like what we can't have. I suppose I'm over-complicating things...

I was at a health food store in Webster Groves, Missouri a couple weeks ago and didn't see this product.

I was looking at this bread recipe I posted here on our SmartCarbing Recipe Forum:
Gabi's World-Famous Bread
goo.gl/cBjiq

I just found a new product today, a substitute for wheat gluten:

vital wheat gluten substitute goo.gl/dEHli or here:
www.orgran.com/products/172/

So I edited that recipe to put in the above link.

I have never used this product since I only found out about it today, and was wondering if any of you have tried it?
