Hi Russell! Thank you for your guidance. I realize peanut butter is not on my list of accepted foods; unfortunately on Sunday I just couldn't resist it. Hence the reason for this post :) I have had cravings for sweets since then, but am just telling myself that the progress I make is better than any sweets I could eat.

Again, thanks for your guidance!

Listen to Russell. What he is telling you is correct.

Was just gonna point out that peanut butter is not allowed, same as fruit.

Write down what is Induction acceptable, and if you get any cravings, eat more of these foods, and plenty of water. Stick to meat eggs, and vegetables, and plenty of fat. Fat will get rid of any hunger/ cravings. Make your 3 cups of vegetables as low on the glycemic scale as possible. Fat over 60% will help. Don't worry about calories. Once you are in ketosis, your portions will get smaller naturally. You will feel full faster.

If you are cheating after 3-4 days, it is important to know why. If it is boredom, you need to address that, if it is cravings, something is wrong with your diet. Hidden carbs somewhere.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I am ready to go today and will succeed! LADYJAKE1, thank you for the link - I have never seen this website before but am AMAZED at how much is on it. I also have lots of low carb cookbooks at home that I got back in May 2011 when I first started this.

Again, thank you all for your support.

Induction is a cleansing....you are going to crave the stuff that you are trying to purge from your body....this is a lifestyle change.

No matter how bad your craving is tell yourself "I am not going to eat it" if it is not on your list of acceptable foods it does not cross your lips....

That being said, after you get through the 2 week induction the cravings will be gone and you will be on your way to a good weight loss as well as feeling good.

in 2004 I started Atkins and dropped 100lbs and have kept it off, as long as I stay low carb my weight stays off.

Clean eating is the best way to go, I do eat the bars and have the shakes only in a pinch, I work 12 hour shifts and end up going way to many hours without eating if I don't have something fast and convenient.

Peanut butter is a no no until your induction phase. Plan ahead and have stuff you can have.
Ham roll ups, ham, cream cheese, green onion
grilled chicken for salads
bacon for salads
romaine lettuce
broccoli/cauliflower
steak
hamburgers, I grill a bunch and eat them all week.

www.genaw.com has tons of induction friendly meals to help you stay on track.

If I need a sweet treat, I go for one of the Atkins shakes or treat bars. Though I only stick to one for that day. I don't really crave sweets but when I do I go high protein and low carb. Also, I take a mouth full of Reddi Whip.

Your body is learning to burn fat instead of carbs and it takes an adjustment period but the protein and fat will help as will drinking plenty of water.

Fortunately, the cravings seemed to vanish for me pretty quickly - it's actually easier for me to eat none than some carbs because a little bit triggers a craving for more but after a short adjustment period, it was pretty easy for me to go without.

I've been told that the craving for sugar means our blood sugar has gotten low and this happens in the beginning more because the insulin hasn't adjusted but there's nothing to satisfy itt so it causes a craving. As mentioned, protein and fat can help the hunger cravings and the insulin-triggered craving will subside very soon. Hang in there - this too shall pass!!

SInce you are on something special, it's hard to say.

Personally, I would rather have something wholesome like fruit
if I had a craving for carbs.

Don't forget we need carbs to feed our brain

You need to get through the first few days and you will be okay. If you are eating enough protein and fat you should be full and won't be having physical cravings. Most people who are eating low carb are not hungry. When you're hungry, then eat, but eat something on plan. Hunger is your enemy. If you are truly hungry then it won't matter that it's not carbs.

Today was my first day of induction. I was doing well, and then my craving for something sweet hit. Thankfully, I didn't turn to something like cake, pie, etc. I went for the peanut butter. I ate so much though that I went over my carb count.

I guess my question is, how do you deal with the cravings in the beginning? I am trying not to be so hard on myself because tomorrow is a new day. If fruit wasn't so high in carbs, I would have turned to that, but I know in the induction phase you cannot (at least on Atkins).

Any help anyone has is much appreciated. I hope you all are having a wonderful Sunday!
