Sounds like a very balanced approach.

I drink plain tap water the majority of the time and coffee - during summer I'll drink ice tea and sometimes now in winter, I'll have a cup of hot tea late in the afternoon when I'm "coffee'd out" for the day - or the pot is empty). Probably don't drink a 6 pak of soda in a year... I do drink a glass of wine quite often tho (one glass). Usually in the evenings with dinner.

I think we all should drink more plain water but after a while I need something else so I drink decaffeinated tea.

Are you using a low sodium or no sodium bouillion? They normally have a lot of sodium in them and that is not a good thing.

Personally, I drink water with only occasional exceptions. Water not only hydrates, but helps flush out the kidneys, liver and other organs of toxins. I never used to drink very much water and maybe if I had, I would not have all the health problems I struggle with today.....

I agree with cutting the sodium in your diet.

Also that low carb has a diuretic effect. Make sure to stay hydrated. A quick Google search will tell you foods high in Potassium. Many of them are allowed on even Atkins Induction. One cup of cooked spinach has 839 mg, or 24% of your RDA . One cup cubed acorn squash has 26%. Salmon has 15% per 3 oz serving, Halibut 13%,. An average sized avocado has 28 %, You can have 1/2 of one on Induction, which is still 14%. A cup of mushrooms is 12 %.

If all else fails, bananas can be added after Induction, as you move into OWL. However they has only 12%. Barely made the top 10 foods when it comes to potassium.

Another issue may be that you have moved on to more energetic daily activities, and are using those muscles more..

I agree about the processed meats. Fresh is better.

Nanarosser, To get the higher fat you can use coconut oil, butter, olive oil - eat macadamia nuts, Be generous with the butter when y ou have veggies and on eggs, etc.

As far as summer sausage, bacon, sausage, etc. - I really try to limit those because of the nitrates and nitrates and all the chemical stuff - I get the fat from like pork shoulder roast, steaks, chicken skin. I use heavy whipping cream - a TBSP or so when I make a protein shake, which is usually what I have for breakfast... I try and keep chemically enhanced foods down to "very seldom" -

A salad every day is not enough veggies. Even atkins wanted you to have 3 cups a day.

Thanks for all the response. I do take multi-vitamins, fish oil, and CO Q10 which is something for muscles which i took back when i had trouble with the Statin drug. I do eat protein at every meal. When you say eat fatty meats, do you mean like summer sausage, bacon, sausage - I really do that too. I don't have much variety with veggies - i usually eat a salad every day. I'm really at a loss, and sure don't want to stop this low carb plan.

Definitely take a multivit if you aren't.

It's common in the early stages you are depleting your glycogen stores and converting to burn fat. Ketones can build up. Some low carb plans don't recommend a lot of exercise until your body has had time to adjust. Some people tend to want to stay on induction too long. Do the two weeks and start adding back carbs slowly at 5gms a day until you are triggered or stop losing weight. Some people can develop some electrolyte issues too when on low carb. If it continues you might have your doctor do some labs as you may need a potassium supplement. You need to be sure you are eating enough fat and that you are drinking plenty of fluids. Vary your veggies and berries. Choose high fiber veggies. Space your carbs out. Eat enough protein.

I never had that problem. I did have the fatigue for the first week, but no muscle weakness.

Are you taking any vitamins? I take a multi vitamin. Sometimes potassium depletion will cause leg cramps, but I'm not too sure what foods help that other than oranges, and bananas, which of course are not low carb. I'll do some research and get back with you. Paula

Has anyone ever heard of anyone having muscle issues by being on Atkins, or low carbs? I've been on the plan since the day after Christmas, and this past week my muscles, especially leg muscles are bothering me - similar to restless leg, which i have always had, but this is worse - especially when stooping down and getting up. I hope that this is NOT what my problem is because i'm losing weight on this plan!!! Help please!!!
