Yes, clam chowder with lots of bacon! The water chestnut idea is in the Glycemic Load Diet book. I'm now wondering about celeriac's being an option. There's also a recipe in there for a butternut squash and shrimp chowder that sounds intriguing. It has some curry powder in it.

LindaS, Clam chowder sounds delicious - and yes, cauliflower works wonderful as the base for it. Never thought or heard of water chestnuts in it though... But LOTS of bacon and other seasonings............

It's getting to be soup weather!

I'm feeling a clam chowder craving coming on. Heard you can use water chestnuts in place of potatoes. Bet cauliflower wouldn't be too bad, either. And of course I'd start it out with lots of BACON!

I have never tried Borscht Beet soup but a lot of my friends have. They went on a medical trip to Russia years ago and they serve a variation of it there. As picky as I am I'm glad I didn't go as I would not want to try beet soup.

Well I just made it and I BURNED my arm when I blended the scalding vegees I scooped out.

The blender did a little 'Hey this is too hot for me, must spit some out diddy!" ...So be careful gf...lol

Yes it's good of course, I just need some 'quick go to" foods, to undo the damage I've done to myself (gained since the Grandboy arrived).

I'm swimming and doing water aerobics at the Y, but that's not enough... I need to get serious again, ya know get my mojo reved up.

We have a new WinCo Foods here, I search for avacodao oil, nada. I will put in a request for it.

I did that with Fage Yogurt, www.fageusa.com and it was in last week ;-)

Sorry, my terminology probably isn't right! All it is is that I take an egg, put it in a cup and mix it up with a fork. Then I pour it VERY VERY slowly in threads or strings into the soup, stirring as I pour which makes it go in thread looking pieces into the soup.

Hope that explains it?

Betty

It's getting the time of year for soups, isn't it? One of my favorites which is so simple is to put a can of chicken broth in a pan, add some finely chopped chicken, some finely chopped onion, some mixed veggies - then when the soup is up to almost boiling, I thread in an egg that I've mixed together in a cup. Kind of like a Chinese restaurant egg drop soup. Makes a good quick soup since I don't keep canned soup here - well... I have a couple cans, but they are for in case I'm sick and need something soothing to eat and don't feel like making it, otherwise I make my soups. I'll make big pots of various soups, then freeze in individual servings, so they're all ready except to thaw.

Also do the same with beef broth and leftover pieces of beef..

emoticon In the youtube "soup" video goo.gl/6Xs2A I liked how he only blended part of the soup, so it was both eye appealing and chunky.

His girlfriend taught him the recipe and he lost 75 pounds.

I love soups. Turkey soup, pea soup, beef soup, all soups! I love them especially in fall and winter.
I have found I love to add a handful of raw kale (chiffonade it) to a bowl and cover it with hot soup of any kind... the heat cooks the kale. I must be craving it or something! :)

I wish I could help. I don't like creamy soups. I only like chunky ones with clear broth.

emoticon I read that blending your soup fills you up faster and keeps you full longer. Well I make this quick -n- easy standard soup of just:
Stock - Onions - Celery
emoticon I'm very busy and preparing this suits my time limits.
I decided to give blending it a try, and by golly it's true! I was full fast (more satisfied feeling too) and wasn't hungry for quite some time, it sticks with you when blended ;-)

Anyhoo I just saw this "Soup Recipe" on YouTube and am going to make it!
